Hands down the best congees. The texture is not too thick but also not too watery. And if you're wondering what is congee, it's pretty much the Chinese version of chicken noodle soup. My favorite is the combination that has squid, beef, pork, and peanuts. I tried other congees but my favorite is still the combination. I especially love to add a fried dough to go with it. The shop also sells Cantonese bbq meats and it's all pretty good. The prices are pretty standard. Lunch time and weekends get pretty busy, but I usually call ahead. My go-to place for congee on a weekend. My favorite is the pork and century egg congee and the fish congee, both with extra peanuts. You must get the fried dough to dip in the congee. There was one time I ordered two different types of congee and the fried dough and they forgot to pack the fried dough. But overall, great place for congee and roasted meats. read more

3.0 - 3.5 Stars for this casual dining/family style restaurant. This place is very economical and their menu is comparable to the pricier Cantonese formal dining. It's a neighborhood gem I suppose as this place is packed with regulars. I came here w/ my family on Thanksgiving night. No one wanted to cook. Ha Their menu offers dim sum type fare, congee, and wonton soups (would've been cool to try that) but we were here for dinner. While oogling the roasted meats hanging in the window, it reminded me of my favorite Chinatown haunts (in Manhattan). The dinner menu varies from small plates to the fancy formal dining choices but at a much cheaper price point. Our entire dinner for family of 7 (we ordered 6 entrees (including Peking Duck) and 1 appetizer and it came to $110) - with three bags of leftovers to boot! We were stuffed. To start, the waiter gave us a complimentary salt baked chicken appetizer to try. It was indeed salty as the name indicates so if that floats your boat, then you should try it. I was not a fan. What we liked and would recommend: the crispy skin roast pig, the Peking style pork chops (aka "King Do Gwat"), the T-Bone Steak (paired with broccoli), and the E-Fu Noodles (vegetarian kind). We ordered the fried tofu, it was good and served like every other restaurant so it is on point but nothing worth noting. And we ordered the string beans (I didn't care for the sauce, it was sweet, not savory). The Peking Duck which was our Thanksgiving protein, was good but served incorrectly. I MUST point this out. Peking Duck is usually sliced breast/topside and that way you get skin slices and meat right off the bat. There should be enough to make at least 8-10 buns. The skill in cutting the duck and the fact that it's double roasted (extra crispy skin) is why you're paying double the normal price of a roasted duck. This place served it the way a regular roast duck was cut...chopped up and bones attached. WRONG! The only thing right was the buns, the sauce and scallion garnish they provided. The duck was simply not cut right. Thus, making it a regular roast duck with Peking Duck Garnish. Dang it!! That's my two cents but it's a huge pet peeve in the restaurant business. That's like someone cutting your porterhouse steak the wrong way...you just can't do that. Anyway, I digress. We didn't complain as we were happy with the food overall and the service was good. So the lower score was more for the hit or miss dishes and the fact that they cut the duck wrong. Still worth a second visit and perhaps for brunch or lunch instead of dinner. read more

Fu Kee makes legitimately good takeout. The congee is on point with a nice consistency and pairs well with the crispy fried dough. My girlfriend and I always go for the char siu, crispy pig, and roasted duck, followed by Singapore mei fun noodles which are nice and spicy with curry flavor. Most restaurants don't put many vegetables into their noodle dishes, but Fu Kee doesn't skimp out on you. My other solid pick is the fish and tofu casserole, which has tender pieces of fried white fish and soft and silky fried tofu. The fish tasted clean and works very well with the sauce. Notes of ginger and spring onion.... Spoon some of that over some white rice and you are good to go.. It's pretty quick when you order takeout, but does get packed at certain times. It's just been rather consistent when compared to most other Chinese restaurants in the area. This is quick family style portions. This is a cheap no-frill Chinese restaurant located on 86 st. I came in with my family on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. We got our food in less than 5 minutes after ordering. We ordered two dishes of barbecue duck on rice, chicken with bitter melon, chicken with broccoli, beef stew noodle soup, and pork congee with preserved egg. Everything came out nice and hot. The service was okay too. I don't expect much from these places. The only complaint I have is the floors are SUPER slippery! They feel like they've been oiled up. This spot was one of the ones I missed the most during covid because I love their roast meats. Especially their roast pork. When I found out they had reopened by walking by the area, I was super excited that I think I texted my husband about it. A usual lunch spot for me on those lazy days or busy days where I must eat and go. This place makes the congee just the way I like it, creamy, thick and just the perfect amount of flavor. If I order congee, I have my mind on their soup noodles and vice versa. So why not order both? I usually order a soup noodle and a congee for myself. My usual favorites are their combination congee or the thousand year egg congee, roasted duck wonton noodles, and basically all their bbq meat items in the front. I have seen this place crowded and empty but the front's take-outs and pick ups are busy at all times. I've seen other diners eating fried noodle dishes and different rice combinations from the kitchen. I have yet to try more of their dishes! I had their steamed fried rice roll with minced dried shrimp once and I remember telling myself I wouldn't order it again. Seemed like everyone was ording the two lobsters and we thought, damn what the heck - lets give it a go! My dad told me about this place being the best for roasted duck and how it was his favorite during his bachelor days. 10 years later, he brought me here and it was incredible. The roasted duck was delicious and full of flavor. The rice meal was bigger than I had an imagine which was good because I got a lot of food for the money I paid for. On the day we left, I tried congee. Most of the members in my family love congee while I cannot stand the watery taste and consistency. However, this congee with the duck was delicious. Haven't been back in years, but happy to see their congee ($2.50-5.50) is still as delicious as always. This is especially important to me, since days earlier I was horrified by the gluey paste Big Wong apparently now serves at their establishment. Consistency is so important! The seafood chow mein ($13.95) is also a family favorite, with crispy thin noodles softened by a light gravy and stir-fried vegetables and seafood. However, I did notice the quality of their roast meats have declined over the years. Their char siu used to be one of the best in Brooklyn-- sweet, fatty, and well-roasted. I usually come here with my family for a dinner out, occasionally a lunch rice box, and their roast meats to go. based on dinners, they are inconsistent. one time i went and it was horrendously bad. chicken was dry, lobster barely had any meat in it and one dish mostly missed the main protein ingredient and was mostly a pile of bell peppers. However, i went last night and our dinner was good. the lamb chops had good flavor (although they use a fair amount of tenderizing powder), the lobsters had enough meat for what you're paying for, the veggies we got were solid, the pork chops were fine, and while the salt and pepper squid wasn't the typical breading, it was at least tender. lunch box and roast meats are typically solid, so i'm happy on that end. service...it's a chinese place and you get what you get for the price. i get it, and am not going to rail on dinner service. my issue is when i go line up for some roast meats to go, and i get crazy old ladies cutting me off after i've been waiting for 15 min. the guys behind the counter know i've been waiting but let everyone jump in and order ahead of me. the only way to get your order in is pretty much be super aggressive and mean (which i'm fine with doing as well). read more

I come here often for family dinners and it is one of those restaurants where you'll go, not for fancy service or nice decor for pictures, but for the authentic Chinese food. The food is always homey and the restaurant has a huge range of dishes you can choose from. A lot of times, people get takeout because they can't get enough like myself. The managers are friendly and if you get to know them, you'll be able to have some great conversations with them. They really get to know the returning customers here. My favorite dish is their salt and pepper dishes especially the pork chop. It's made to a crisp but the meat is tender inside. Their chow mai fun is really delicious too. It has a lot of flavor. If you're sitting here for a full course meal, I would definitely go for the tofu fish head bone soup. I don't know what happened to Fu Kee... this was a staple... for many years since it's opening, it was my family's "go-to" for everything from rice boxes, congees, fried noodles, dinner take-out to dining in AND ordering their tiny suckling pig (on average $150-$195 depending on size). For all those Mother's Day dinner, Father's Day, Birthdays and pre-wedding meals; we had consistently good food from Fu Kee. Seafood meals are usually good and always love their "roasted garlic deep fried big Vancouver crabs"... aka "bei fu tong style". Usually runs me about $90-120 for 2 crabs depending on the wt. We supported you when you opened a sister restaurant, bigger Seafood restaurant just a few doors down - but alas... it didn't work out. ( I don't think anything survives situated right next to a smelly Chinese Supermarket!) Never had to write a review for them bc everyone around this neighborhood knows Fu Kee; goes to Fu Kee and eats there... knows the "boss", talks to them like neighbors & friends; and just a staple on 86th Street. I noticed they went from having a consistent "A" grade to a "C" grade... and most recently went for a quick dinner; the service was terrible, the food was subpar, lacked flavors, not consistent with what we ate over the years... For all those early years you served us well - 5 stars... unfortunately a good thing never lasts... and now I don't see Fu Kee as our go-to anymore. I think their roast meats are still decent and congees are OK. Just not the same quality... but still worth a visit. read more

God, I love this place! I never liked Chinese food but this place made me not love it but got me addicted to it. The dine in experience may get a bit funky but the food itself is great. What's really good there is their barbecue: Duck and chicken. Also eggplant and black fungus, Boiled chicken, shrimp with walnuts and ginger scallion lobster. My bff Jenny L. took me here for some soup, something light because i had a long night ahead of me. Once we walked in no one wanted to seat us, so we took it upon ourselves to sit where-ever we felt. the Waiter was being a little rude, but once he seen my friend Jenny spoke Chinese his whole vibe changed. Steamed rice roll w/ fried dough - The dough was fresh and chewy, unlike some places where it's hard and old. This dish the portions are huge. ($3.75) 4. Steamed rice roll w/ shrimp - The skin was a little thick but it was still good. The shrimp was plump and fresh. ($2.75) 5. Steamed rice roll w/ dried shrimp - The dried shrimp gives it a salty shrimp taste and it had scallions. Together with the dried shrimp and scallion it was a good combination. I have been eating to this restaurant for more than 10 years now. The food is delicious. The price is about right and fair.

Reliable decently priced food. Good dim sum, good take out. Cha siu cheung fun, haw gou are our family's current favorites. The shrimp has a spring when you bite in, the bbq pork is well seasoned, and when you ask for half fatty pork, they give you: half fatty pork! You can wait and order the roasted meat as it comes out of their kitchen. While waiting for the food like a jaguar on a hyena, you can toss around phrases about the impeding doom about the economy and how expensive vegetables are. That will get the locals bitching. Their roasted pork has a beautiful brown fatty crispy skin. Their roasted duck is like a fine perfume: fat, herbals and smells better with time. I love their congee ONLY when they get it right. I repeatedly tell them not to add scallions and ginger in the congee and when I get home what do I find in it ... scallions and congee. For every time I order it, 1 out of 2 times they get the order wrong. Tdy is no different other than they have the audacity to lie to me. I notice the cook fishing out something from my congee orders and asked them if he is removing the scallions and ginger which I was lied to NO. There is no ginger or scallions in my 2 congee orders.
