85 degree cafe is like the standard for me when it comes to Taiwanese bakery. There are other standalone bakeries that have certain items that are better but 85 degrees has your staples and they're all reliable and taste pretty good. I like their milk buns, cocoa bun, egg tarts, and their drinks are pretty good as well. Their app is not the best but worth it if you go often enough to get points for free items. I think the staff at this location are friendlier than the others that I've been to in Houston, but their selection is not as good as the Bellaire location for sure. They sell out of popular items fairly often. And I went an hour before closing once because I happen to be in the area, there's almost no bakery items left by then. Good to know that it's selling out by the end of the day because that means it's fresh, but I wish they were better about restocking popular items at least midday. Wow! So many goodies and drinks to be had. There is no seating (as most bakeries do not) but still worth mentioning. Protocol is enter, grab a tray, and fill up on pastries galore. There were prepared cakes and individual desserts on display for the taking. I bought a mango smoothie, caramel pod, a cookie, and a mango delight. The mango delight was not for me. But the mango smoothie, however, was totally delish! All in all, I spent $15.83 as a total for my purchases. They also sell savory pastries and tasties as well. We have visited the Blalock location since they're next to 99 Ranch. According to the app, 85'C is offering 15% off holiday cakes, so on Dec 5, I tried placing a couple of cake orders on for pickup in Pearland on Dec 24 but it kept saying sold out. For several days, I called the Pearland location listed in the app--no answer each time. We were confused because we planned to celebrate with friends who live just 10 minutes from that bakery and really preferred to pick up the cake there. We stopped by the Blalock location and wanted to order in person but picked up in Pearland. The cashier said she didn't know and the manager might know, but he was busy on the phone. After waiting about 15 minutes, the manager finally told us that they couldn't take an order for another location. I then showed both the manager and cashier the Pearland number in the app, and they said they don't know anything. Out of curiosity, I googled the Pearland 85°C and discovered that it doesn't open until January 2026. So the issue isn't the employees--it's poor communication on 85°C corporate's part. If a store isn't open yet, the app should clearly say so (eg Opening January 2026) to avoid wasting customers' time calling a non-existent location. Since Pearland isn't open yet, we ended up placing the order at Blalock. That experience was also surprisingly frustrating. I asked for the ube cream cake, but the cashier kept insisting they only offer holiday cakes.I pointed to the banner that clearly shows the ube cream cake as one of the holiday cakes, but she insisted I hadn't said "holiday ube cream cake." I'm not sure how much more specific I could have been--especially since I had already said the cake was for Christmas Eve pickup. After paying, the cashier handed me a yellow slip and told me to bring it for pickup. She also asked what message I wanted on the cake. I said "Happy Holidays," and she replied that Merry Christmas is already on the cake. I then asked why she woild ask what message I wanted. She said "Oh, well, we can add a little paper with 'Happy Holidays' instead." At that point, I just went with it--I was honestly done dealing with this particular staff member. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day or is new and still learning, but it was unnecessarily frustrating. Overall, the lack of accurate information about the Pearland store and the confusing ordering process made what should have been a simple holiday cake order far more complicated than necessary. read more

I probably visit this location the most compared to others because of its close proximity to 99 ranch, making it easy to walk over after I finish grocery shopping. Small store but has everything you'd expect. I decided to try a drink today and got the sea salt oolong tea. A bit too sweet for me even at 30% sugar. Inside, although a Saturday, it wasn't crowded so I could easily peruse the selection to decide what I wanted, with a mixture of sweet and savory selections in the clean, brightly lit store. I decided on a strawberry cream cake slice behind the glass. It's a light and airy cake and has a subtle strawberry flavor to the cake. Admittedly the cake was a little dry, so it was helpful they have the cream layers but it could benefit from maybe some jam in there to help with moisture and to enhance the strawberry flavor. The interesting and maybe my favorite part was the pudding like filling right in the middle. Not quite sure what it is but it reminds me of flan and I enjoy that texture. The sea salt foam mixed into the matcha just made it a super creamy drink, and the regular sweet isn't overly sweet, i'd just maybe go 50% next time. I love 85 Bakery in general. I've gone to multiple locations, I love the drinks and pastries, and I've always had good service. I go to this specific location frequently because it opens at 8am and I can grab some goodies for my coworkers and I before going into work. However, I've been frustrated as I've noticed at my recent visits that there are less and less pastries out. Previously I would be able to go in shortly after the store has opened and grab all of the pastries I like, and now at the last 3-4 visits I've had, they'll have only a few pastries out--none of which I want. Of course I don't know if they have their own schedule of which pastries to prioritize going out in the morning, however I feel like there should be more of a selection available if they open at 8am. The price point is pretty affordable. They do a great job of restocking until they run out for the day. I also love getting their cake for birthdays. The garlic cheesy bread is mouthwatering. Now let's get serious... the tiramisu cake here has me on a chokehold. When I say I've been going here multiple times a week I almost feel guilty for eating so much bread. It's just that good. You've gotta try it out, trust me. Prices are good and there's good parking. Similar to all 85 degrees, the bread selection here is always nice and there are a lot to choose from. I got a new danish brioche that they had which was good, but I think I still prefer the original brioche loaf. I came specifically to try the pumpkin spice drinks that they had, and the matcha one in particular. I thought that the drink was a little too sweet for me, and the matcha was not strong enough. I also tried the pumpkin spice latte as a coffee, which I enjoyed more, but also found to be a bit too sweet. Next time I will probably ask for 70% sugar! read more

My wife and I enjoy 85c and have been to this location many times for years. Recently we went to an 85c in Austin and we have discovered this Houston location is not as great. Compared to other locations, this Houston location really skimps out on the quality. For example, they really under-fill their coffee cruffin. The Austin location fill An appropriate amount of the coffee whipped cream so when you cut the cruffin in quarters, you get a nice amount from top to bottom inside the cruffin. When I cut the cruffin from this location, you get maybe 1/6th of the filling compared to Austin's. It looks pitiful. Their other offerings such as the Taro Buns are undefiled too compared to other locations. read more

I came in specifically for a Sea Salt Iced Coffee based off the recommendation from a friend (you can also order it hot), and whew boy it did not disappoint! I don't know what is in this coffee, but it is so delicious I cannot help but think I am addicted now. The coffee is very smooth and sweet, so if you aren't a fan of sweet coffee you will want to pass on this option. But don't worry - they have a ton of other options for you! Guava Cheese Strudel. Brioche. What to fruity drink: Lemon Black Tea w tapioca. King Grapefruit Black Tea if they'll make it (they won't). King Grapefruit Green Tea, not as good as the black. What to milky drink: Sea Salt Iced Coffee. Sea Salt Iced Caramel Coffee. Sea Salt Black Tea. Also great to eat: Choco Bun. Taro Swirl. Coconut Tart. Not as good: Coffee Bread. Regular Milk Tea. Anything with green tea. Marble Taro. Red Bean Bread. Similar products and standards to the legendary location down in Chinatown, but with a few differences. This one is way smaller and there's hardly anywhere to sit, in fact it often doesn't have any seating available. Some of the employees here are super nice, but one of the managers and several of the other employees have a major attitude problem - and if that particular manager is on shift then you could end up with a sour and salty experience like I did when I asked for black tea with my king grapefruit. If you've read my other 85 reviews, you know I'm forever on a quest to find an 85 that will make my King Grapefruit with Black Tea instead of Green. It's a very easy substitution and they mostly refuse. So far only *one* location made it for me and it was amazing. *1 location made it for me *3 others agreed to make it, and then their co-worker or manager told them no you can't *a few other locations were very nice about it but said no *several locations were very nasty about it, and said no This location falls into the 2nd, 3rd and 4th category, depending on who I asked. Anyway, moving on. At least all of the products are usually up to the same delicious standard as the ones in Bellaire, hence the good rating. However, because this place is wayyy smaller and less busy than the one on Bellaire, the products are often not quite as fresh. So I have never had piping-hot gooey custard Tarts here - they are usually cold. For these reasons, despite the excellent quality of products I will give them 4 instead of 5, and if they can start making the drink like I want it then I will raise them to a five. Low down on the drinks: - Lemon Black Tea is heaven. Get it with tapioca. Subtle and not too sweet. Tastes homemade. Perfect. - King Grapefruit is a huge grapefruit in a huge cup with delicious black tea (if they go off menu for you, but they won't), or mediocre green tea, excellent with boba. - Sea Salt drinks are heaven. All these are iced, not hot. The Coffee, Caramel Coffee, and Black Tea are all addictive and divine with Sea Salt and Boba, but the Caramel Coffee is the winner and is the must try drink at 85. Conclusion: Order the Caramel Sea Salt Iced Coffee. If you love lemon or grapefruit, order those with black tea. And as for the pastries: - The Egg Tart is pure heaven. When it's piping hot, it's the greasiest and one of the tastiest on the whole planet. It's not good for you, but then neither is unprotected frolicking with strangers on vacation in the third world and that never stopped you now did it. - Brioche looked like it'd be all hype, but it is as dreamy as people say it is. - Choco Bun and cookies are good - Guava Cheese Strudel is divine, much better than it sounds, may be the low key best pastry (see what I did there I'm so trendy) Some of the other stuff isn't as good, so I'd stick to my recs if I were you, or at least try a few of those along with the rando stuff you pick out which may or may not be good/bad. Conclusion: Get an Egg Tart when hot, get a Guava Cheese Strudel and a Brioche* *sponsored by actress Juliette "Brioche" Binoche.** **Scotsmen don't like to wait long for their Brioche, whereas The English?
