800 Degrees - sometimes you just want salad with a little pizza taste 800 Degrees isn't far from our home so it's an easy stop for salad and a taste of pizza. It is located in the far east end of the strip mall opposite of the Starbucks and Walmart off Lima/Dupont road. It's a large restaurant so it can easily accommodate larger parties. You order at the cash register and then the servers will take care of the rest. They do have a bar side on one side of the restaurant that has a TV to watch the game. I think their alcohol selections are rather limiters though. On this occasion we ordered a Pirelli and salads. The Pirelli is a delicious "non-pizza" pizza option. The ring of dough is very tasty. It is soft and slightly sweet. The wood fired baking gives it a nice Smokey flavor with a slightly crisp exterior. The inside is full of oozing mozzarella cheese and sweet marinara sauce. You have to love when fresh mozzarella oozes and is almost so thick that you need a fork to cut it. The two salads pictured are a Caesar and Mista salad. You can get them in half and full sizes. The half size is enough for a meal if you are going to accompany it with a pizza or Pirelli. The salads are always fresh. They never drench the salad in too much dressing. The dressings are usually very in mild flavor so it accents the salad instead of dominating it. One of the memorable parts of dinning at 800 Degrees is the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. These free cookies are ready to accompany you home. Give 800 Degrees a try. They make a good change of pace from your normal pizza place. We walked into 800 Degrees and was welcomed by a smiling young lady at the hostess stand. She let us know we could sit wherever we wanted so we chose a booth. I hadn't eaten here since 3.14 {pie day} last year so we decided it was time to get some yummy pizza here again. We all chose different pies... My wife got the Salsiccia, my son got the Pollo BBQ, and I got the 800°. I really loved the spice on mine but my son's bbq pizza was sooo good! Disappointing. Could be a lot better. We came in and were told we could sit wherever. There's an order it yourself side, but it wasn't pointed out that the bar side was full service, which is what we wanted. The teen hostess was too busy on her phone to explain that. Waited for 15 minutes to have the bartender/server to come by. Ordered meatball app. The sauce had a good punch, but I suspect the small meatballs were frozen. Had the Pollo Barbecue pizza with gluten free crust. It was really greasy, although they did a good job cooking the crust. My boyfriend had the Carne pizza, which was OK but super greasy too. Upon entering the restaurant with my family of 5, we were greeted with smiles and the owner making jokes with my kids. He told us we could sit wherever we wanted and I'm so grateful they had booths! He gave us time to get to our table and settled before he came over and gave us the rundown & his recommendations. When we chose our salad, pizzas and drinks my husband went to order at the counter. Here's what we ordered: -Caesar salad: it's a great size to share.. the 5 of us (2 adults and 3 small children) ate a good amount and it was still a little leftover. -Salcicca: this was my favorite! The sweet sausage (which they make) were absolutely delicious. And the sliced garlic took the flavor over the top. Omg I would get this every time. I might add pepperoni to this next time. -Verdure: another delicious pizza! All the veggies were great and flavorful. The white sauce was tasty too. The basil, I believe, was the pesto sauce. Would def get this again. -Bambino cheese: my kids tore this up! They shared 1 pizza (pizza has 8 slices so 4 slices each) and even ate some of our pizza (above.) They also have FREE chocolate chip cookies by the register to just grab before you go. Who does that anymore?? I will return over and over again. This was disappointing. I moved to Fort Wayne from Indy and have been trying to find good restaurants to bring my boyfriend to when we come here. Our pizza was floppy, the sausage tasted like it had been frozen for months, and although it was covered in just about everything you could imagine, it somehow tasted flavorless. We added salt to it, and that helped for a little before the salt was drowning in grease layer on top of the pizza. The staff was nice and we have no complaints about the service, but the ambiance was clouded by the wet cardboard -like crust of doom. read more

Disclaimer: 800 Degrees is arguably the best pizza in FW, but bad customer service (from the owner/manager) is completely unacceptable/inexcusable and is an easy way to lose and isolate customers. We've been in FW for about a year now and have frequented 800 Degrees, and it has been nothing short of outstanding... Excellent pizza and friendly/impeccable customer service every time. However, last night's visit was terrible, completely due to the rude/condescending service from who I assume is the owner/manager (skinny, well-dressed guy with a gray beard, who looked to be managing operations). We stopped in around 7 and it was very busy... Most tables were filled and there was a short line waiting to be seated. We waited our turn and when we got to the front of the line we asked for a table for two. The hostess (who was also running the register) was very nice and said we could pick any open table and order when ready (Note: 800 Degrees has an unorthodox service model - Full service at the bar area where the bar tender takes your order, but if you sit in the main area, you order at the register yourself; there's no server to to take your order). We usually sit in the bar area because we like having our order taken, but there weren't any open bar tables so we decided to eat in the main area. Since we always get the same thing when we visit (mista salad, supremo pizza, rocket pizza, and a couple beers), we placed our order before grabbing a table. As we were ordering the owner/manager rudely and abrasively said "What are you doing?! There are other people waiting for a table." At first I had no idea he was talking to us... I thought he was talking to the hostess at the register (which I was shocked he was talking to his employee that way). When I turned to my left, the guy was standing and looking at us and again condescendingly said "There are people waiting in line, what are you doing?!" I realized he was talking to us and I was therefore absolutely stunned that this guy was speaking to anyone like this, let alone a paying customer. In my younger days, I would have given this guy a piece of my mind.... After 20 years in the military though and having learned tact, restraint, and how to deal with ignorant people, I gave him a "the glare" and calmly said "We were told to grab a table and place our order." The guy rudely snapped back and said "By who, where?!" I pointed to the hostess and he then shook his head, mumbled something under his breath, and stormed off like a child. We were completely bamboozled at what just occurred and frankly pissed off at that point... We sat down and waited on our food/beer (which was again outstanding); had we not already paid, we would have walked out because we were livid at the treatment from the owner/manager. In closing, I have no idea what in the world was going on at 800 Degrees last night and I really hope this was an isolated incident. More importantly, I certainly hope the owner/manager doesn't treat his employees the way he treated us... No one, especially customers (who are the life blood of any business) should ever be treated/spoken to the way we were treated/spoken to. I understand business was hectic last night and probably a bit disorganized amongst the staff, but at no point do you ever treat customers poorly... This is simple Business 101, and the owner/manager clearly needs some remedial training in this area (On the contrary, his staff and employees were excellent and friendly). We've been frequent customers since we moved to Fort Wayne and have had nothing but excellent experiences, but last night was unacceptable/inexcusable and has us not wanting to return to 800 Degrees. I certainly hope the owner/manager 1) reads this review 2) takes time to self-reflect because his actions were conduct unbecoming of a business owner. read more

$12 for a sandwich "stuffed with fresh mozzarella" per their own menu details and there's not a shred of mozzarella to be found :( I used to order from here almost once a week, it's been months because I had an unpleasant experience here last time as well. The Ortaggio used to be my favorite sandwich but when did they stop putting cheese on it and not change their menu? Without cheese it's honestly just a garbled mix of vegetables and pesto on bread and a huge waste of money! I always tip them on pick up orders as they expect too :( read more
