Don't go if you're wearing a "light sports athletic jacket". What I was wearing didn't have issues with any of the other bars around the area. Jeans, tennis shoes, v neck shirt, and light athletic jacket. Kudos to the other bars around the area who didn't have dress issues unless you're just down right tacky. Took out of town guests here and it was awful. The white couches are stained with black shit all over them. Friend order a Tito's vodka drink and it was clearly some watered down cheap vodka. You wouldn't even have to be any kind of vodka drinker to know that it was cheap. Made her gag and couldn't even finish it. Great music with a DJ. Bar food is actually good but stop serving at 9. The white furniture is off white now (who cares, just an observation). Waitresses get busy as the night falls but overall good. Tip is included regardless of party size. Younger crowd comes in later and there's a line outside. I like that you can walk through some doors to the Rose Room (EDM music). Went to the soft opening and was blown away by the atmosphere. So beautiful. Love the modern clean look. The color scheme is impeccable. Just being there makes you look cool. Literally. It's a cool place to up your Instagram coolness for all you lifestyle bloggers and grammers and what have yous. They've got those awesome 60s style swinging basket chairs. I've always wanted one of those. One day. For now I'll just visit this bar and pretend I'm super cool. The drinks are soooo yummmm. My mouth is watering as I speak. Met some former co-workers for my last GNO of 2016 and we decided to try 77 Degrees. We went early, it was 60 degrees outside and most people were out of town for the holiday so we mostly had the place to ourselves- which was a bonus since a rep from Naked Turtle Rum was there and we got free rum cocktails (winning!). Thank goodness for the heaters. And the great bartender (Caitlin? Kaylee??). The seating is very cute white cabana-like sofas. We are a bunch of event planners so I had to resist the urge to tell someone they needed to be cleaned, but after 3 of the Perfect 10 cocktails I stopped caring. The set up is nice and the bartenders are great. They could have a better selection of music more like they do in Kung Fu across the street. There is however a major issue with this place. They have forgotten that this is Austin and not Vegas. Here's what I mean. I went there with a group of my friends. We were all on slacks, button down shirts and hard bottom shoes. We walked up to the door and the doorman wouldn't let us in. We asked why because we were dressed appropriately and we got into everywhere else at Rock Rose with no problem. The doorman says "I'm gonna be honest there are too many of you guys all together." That really upset us, basically because there's a group of black guys all together we can't get in. That's about the most racist thing I have ever experienced in Austin. They would never treat us like that in Vegas, Cali, Miami ect. That experience will make me never go back to this place. It's sad that they would act like this in 2016. If they don't change they will end up like Rio on 6th and people with stop going there. So if you are with a group of black guys don't go there and if you do, you better split up so it doesn't look like you guys are all together. This place is usually so packed that you can't enjoy it on Friday and Saturday nights. I recently ended up meeting some friends here on a Sunday evening and it was refreshingly less crowded. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. The DJ played decent music although he didn't respond well it requests. I really, really enjoyed the environment and atmosphere of this establishment. I truly had a great time... until I didn't. My partner was physically assaulted in the bathroom, came out and said we needed to leave immediately; that he'd been assaulted. Unfortunately, I insisted on letting authorities to handle it. After a tedious conversation with the owner, he proceeded to say that nothing uncanny occurred and that it was indeed my partner's fault. This forced me to involve law enforcement. We've been here a number of times with no altercations, but the one time there was, it was no one's fault but ours. Photo evidence, police reports, medical records, litigation all support my claims which are contrary to the owner's. I'm giving this place a fair rating (would've preferred 1.5 but w/e) because I truly did enjoy my time there as a patron before things went sideways. I'd go there again if management hadn't singled us out as unwelcome guests - even though we were the ones victimized. In the numerous establishments I've attended, this treatment has never occurred. I believe it's downright immoral, possibly illegal, for management to handle the situation in this way. As great as the place may be for a single occasion, I do not recommend it as a safe place. Had it not been for management's unwillingness to deal with the issue appropriately, my takeaways would've probably been far different. read more

I went at around 7pm on a weekday. The bar was pretty dead but the venue was pretty cool. It gave off a hi-scale hotel type of vibe. I'm not sure if it gets more crowded usually, but if not 77 Degrees won't be open for much longer. The prices of drinks are not cheap and the beer selection is awful. worst place ever. bouncers here are the perfect example of pathetic boys on a power trip. it's clear the bouncers are broke, desperate, and have never been around girls enough to know how to act. we saw the most sad excuses of bouncers standing at the door. One had the most messed up nose and was shorter than a normal sized guy would be. the other was a crusty smelly guy who reeked of BO. they both were thirsty af and wouldn't let a girl in even though she had proper attire and an ID. they wouldn't let her in bc they were trying to get money off of her, but she had gone to every other bar and did not face this issue. honestly it's a pity the bouncers are so broke they had to resort to this. then some guys confronted them about their treatment of the girl and the two bouncers immediately started crying and acting not so tough. for an establishment with this many poor ratings, you would hope they would start to employ less pathetic people, and hopefully those that aren't as ugly on the outside as they are on the inside. if your gonna look that ugly, at least be good people. pick a struggle and stick with it. thanks. read more

The rooftop area is a nice space to lounge at night but for a place that is billed as more of a cocktail bar, it seems to not actually live up to that as far as the menu. Not a lot of originiality, creativity or quality from the menu, which is loaded with artificially flavored rums, and devoid of classic rum drinks, and I opted to just get a beer instead. Went to this place to meet a friend. With a heat index of 103, I dressed in shorts, sandals and a very tasteful tank top. As an image conscious gay man, I assure you I did not look like a thug or degenerate, but I was turned away at the door because they have a no tank top policy. A little PRETENTIOUS for my taste, but since it was the only time I could meet my friend who was visiting for the weekend, I went to my car to get a t-shirt. I reluctantly returned and was allowed to enter. Looking around the rooftop bar, I noticed lots of women wearing tank tops. Not only is their "no sleeves, no entry" policy pretentious, it is also SEXIST. Furthermore, all the servers were attractive, well endowed young ladies wearing very thin tank tops which enhanced their attributes and typically showed their undergarments. This place is nothing more than a pretentious "Hooters" knock off with cheap vinyl furniture. To give credit where credit is due, we did have a very nice server. She was quite attentive and friendly. They let me in but wouldn't allow my friend in who had on a solid white shirt, which was against their dress code. So we drove back home and he changed. Then we came back and my other friend couldn't get in because his shoes are high tops. He left and came back and eventually got in. So after being there a few hours we left and came back. Then they wouldn't let me in because my pants were 1/2" above the ground, which is against their dress code according to the door guy. I asked why I was allowed in several times before the same night and suddenly I was out of dress code. He said he never should have let me in the other times. But we noticed whenever we are with our hot girlfriends the dress code didn't matter other days. had a great night, went to the bathroom and was not feeling good. my friend came in because he couldn't find me and was concerned and an unrelated girl made an unnecessary scene and actually kicked him in the chest like gerald butler from the 300 and then aggressively came at him even after the situation was clarified, the "karen" individual started slandering and instigating drama for no other reason than for personal attention. my guy friend is a an amazing upstanding regular at the bar and only had my best interests and resultantly got punished and crucified for checking on my well being. the bar employees were unfortunately not privy enough to understand all of the factors going on and came at him in a totally unacceptable way. i really enjoy this bar and understand that confusion can happen from time to time and this instance specifically was extremely egregious and upsetting to my upstanding guy friend that was only trying to look out for my well being read more

After reading all of the bad reviews I asked some girlfriends to join me at the rooftop bar for drinks last night. It was a scorcher but the fans were on as were the "misters"(?). First impression was that the place was so not ghetto and people were dressed in casual clothes not street attire or like they had just stepped out of Orange Theory and a :45 minute work out. Second impression was that the young ladies that waited on us had little to no clothing on which did make it more like an expensive Hooters or Twin Peaks than a nice bar. Overall this place is after all a bar that serves appetizers not a five star restaurant that serves drinks. It's not a cheap bar and the drinks are poured well so I do like to know that when I feel like stepping out and stepping up a little that there is a place where having some class makes a difference. Whatever the argument about "dress code" is I just suggest that before going to a new place call ahead and ask if there is a dress code. We found our experience to be pleasant, fun, and affordable.
