There are 3 main aisles with not that much room to walk, and the shelves are all stocked. I appreciated how every item had a little orange price sticker, unless the price was already on the product (like my favorite 99 cent arizona green teas). Prices seemed fair. They had a pretty good variety of things, like house goods, snacks, frozen foods,, drinks, ice cream, etc. It's a nice little neighborhood shop, and is conveniently located close to the Jarvis el stop.

I'm always surprised by their wide selection -- they literally have everything from alcohol to groceries to every day items. Mom n' Pop shops are a rarity these days; cherish them while they still exist. The staff here treats customers like old friends. In a world that is constantly on the go -- it's nice to slow down a bit and know that the person asking, "How are you today?" actually cares, and that when they wish you a nice day, they actually mean it. I know, shocker. I love this place, as it embodies every single reason why I choose to support small businesses: incredible staff, great products, great prices. Can't beat that.

I don't love monopolies, unless I am winning at the board game. So I look up cheap grocery stores, and other than Aldi, Food4Less came up. I found one not too far away from me and decided to venture up there. I walked through the doors and some of the first merchandise I see has the Kroger logo. Go figure. Where it comes to this specific grocery store, variety is one of the items that cost it points Their selection was fair, but the deli department is notably small, and there is no visible butcher shop (though there are meats and seafood for sale). You can more or less find everything you would need among these notably very wide aisles, but perhaps some items would require one to go elsewhere. Among the items they had, the store appeared clean and well stocked. When it comes to their prices, while nothing is cheap anymore, especially in Chicagoland, I found their prices were a little lower than average, especially for the eggs. When it comes to the customer service, this could also be a little bit better. While there was no one at the customer service desk, it had a little sign that said that this register is closed. So... if you need to return something or if a price isn't right, what then? You're just out of luck or something? I'd also like to note that this is a place where you bag your own groceries. Not a problem, necessarily, just thought I'd put it out there. Thus, while I appreciate the lower prices, the slightly limited selection and the lack of customer service cost Food4Less a couple points. Still respectable though, and I can still see myself coming back on occasion.

DRINK UP LOCAL I was…read moreactually heading to CVS for some adult beverages to go when I walked by this old school liquor store. I love local small businesses and decided to pop in. Honestly why would I spend my money with some corporate giant when I could give it to a Mom & Pop location. When I walked in, there was a bell on the door to alert them someone had walked in. I didn't see anyone and figured they were in the back. As I was looking around the store, I turned around and saw the owner sitting behind the counter. He startled me because I thought he was in back. He asked if I needed any help. I asked him about some prices and he was able to quote them to me with tax already added. Now that's s skill that should be an Olympic event. I guarantee the employees at CVS can't do that. I ended up talking to the owner, Andy through some light conversation. He seems like a very hard working guy. I learned his liquor store has been open for 10 years now. It is small but has everything you could want to throw a party. The day I visited he had 4 deliveries and there was beer stacked from the floor to almost the ceiling. It's not a huge place but he probably does a great business with the train and bus terminal nearby. So if you're near Jefferson Park and you need to pick up some spirits, beer or wine then this is the place for your party needs. I loved what Andy said when I left. He said, "Come back soon!" The produce makes up a lot of the store's inventory, so be sure to get some of this. Before it was pretty common for grocery stores to be independent. It's getting to be like these are all chains, but not at this one. This market is committed to the local community, and helps introduce unfamiliar items to people. A long time business in the community. It opened in 2004 at this location. A few hard to find specialties like Caribbean, Latin, and West African ingredients can be found. They also have hot food service. Has quite a lot inside. It's located on Morse Avenue at Greenview and is popular with many people. They make a lot of the prepared foods made to order, so it's fresh, and there's a good selection of meats and vegetables.

They not only sell vitamins and supplements but it's also a small health food grocery store selling a gamut of organic items from fruit and veggies to prepackaged, frozen items. I especially like their grocery store bulk bins where you can purchase dry goods by the pound. The owner, Mr. Dinesh, is friendly and the store manager has always been helpful. Both always greet me when I visit and if I have trouble finding things, they're always ready to help. One thing not to skip is getting their freshly made in-house samosas. They are ridiculously good and quite possibly the best frickin samosas I've ever had so far. The owner also mentioned to me that they sell lentil soup and Biryani. I'm almost tempted to go back and try that too. JD Mills is situated in a strip mall with ample parking. They have a few dedicated spaces for customers with a 20-minute limit. Check them out! They are an amazing find and a gem in the neighborhood.

They come with the two classic red and green Indian sauces. That's a great deal.
