I live close by and prices here are good. Plenty of parking. Store has no frills. I know exactly what I want, then check out. Food is affordable and tastes great. I like their snacks and food to pack kids lunches. I like to check out with a cashier. Skokie Aldi cashiers are friendly and engaging. The whole staff is helpful. I comparison shop and Aldi usually has the best prices. Reminder to check the hours: different Aldi's open at different times. I shall return. read more

Sort of good selections. You will have to double check with the cashier because one price is on the tag and something else is different when they scan. Major problem it is the parking lot. People are very selfish and if you park your car, they wanna park in the same parking spot even though you were in the car and they're arrogant and rude about it and they do curse you out and you do get insulted by the other customers. read more

Absolutely ridiculous experience. I was stuck in the bathroom for 15 minutes with no toilet paper while my boyfriend repeatedly informed staff. They sent a guy with long blond hair and an orange vest to get some, and he just never came back--completely useless. My boyfriend ended up having to go out to the car and grab a roll we had just bought so I could clean myself up. When I finally got out and told a manager, he somehow managed to get toilet paper within seconds, which just proves the rest of the staff couldn't be bothered to do the bare minimum. The level of laziness and lack of responsibility here is unbelievable and completely unprofessional. read more

I've been a customer at this Evanston Aldi location for about a decade. Since they've renovated, it's been really great. The service is also quite good, and the check out cashiers are fast and friendly. Except for today. The cashier was a young woman (with blonde/orange tint hair), who loudly chewed her gum like in a film about Las Vegas showgirls, and she never looked at anyone, didn't smile, and literally SHOVED the groceries into the cart. There was also an issue with the price of zucchini. She lied to her supervisor and said she punched in the numbers (SKU code) twice, which she didn't (she did it once - odd that she lied about this in front of me since I saw her actions). She also shoved the receipt into my hand. Nice touch... The Aldi near my flat (Edgewater) has the worst service and products ever, and they have deserved a low-star review... so I started coming to the Evanston store, which has been solid and consistently good. Again, except for today. I know it's hard to find good workers these days, but c'mon Aldi - you generally have good staff, so please don't hire people who are not at all connected to the concept of service. Don't be desperate since it will also kick you in the backside in the end. My standards for service are quite low, by the way, and I tend to cut service workers slack (they're generally underpaid). Very disappointing visit. I needed 2 things: feta cheese and quinoa. The feta was no problem but I spent quite a bit of time searching for the quinoa before asking for help. I was told the endcap I'd searched fruitlessly would be the only place quinoa would be. [sigh] I expect better, Aldi. read more

It is hard to complain about the prices. They're consistently lower than anywhere else around. However, it's a bit of an example of getting what you pay for. You will not find a lot of the staples that you would expect to find at Jewel Or another large. Also, you may have to prepare for a long line with only one check out working. That's it, and all kind of balances out - great price is fine mediocre customer service. Templates and shows are great, but it seems like they are chronically understaffed. read more

We have had Aldi in our regular rotation for years. We like many of the stores and we have liked the Evanston Il store very much. I would have given it a 5 star rating. It has well trained, friendly staff, good prices, even a bathroom that does not smell (unlike Jewel foods). We just visited it today and the store deteriorated noticeably since our last visit a couple of weeks ago. We first noticed the shelves were not well stocked. Not just a few but many, many of the items that are usually there were gone with an empty shelf in its place.We thought they might be having supply chain issues but then we notices there is MUCH less staff. I think they got behind in stocking shelves. The worst was the check out. They have converted to self check out only -- which we avoid. We grumbled and started to check out and after a few bags, there was no where to put any more. The space allowed for bagging is about the size of one of their heat and eat pizzas. The old checkers used the last customer's cart, but there were none arround and we didn't bring an extra quarter so I shuffeled our bags one and two at a time from the tiny square to the unused space that used to work when bagging our stuff. It looks as if they are cutting the staff drastically. Understaffing will destroy the ability of the staff to give the same excellent service we have enjoyed in the past. We are already making new plans to shop else were -- it was one of our go to stores but if I want to work for an Aldi store, I will put in an application: not go shopping there. read more

This store frequently has too few checkouts open during peak business times, but an abundance of employees just milling about at the checkouts. If they're available, have them open up a register. And if they're on break, would make for better appearances if they were in a break room and out of site. read more

For its grand opening weekend, this Aldi, I suspect to hint at its German roots, had a Smart Car with the Aldi brand painted on it parked outside the main entrance. The place was crowded on Saturday afternoon, yet I got out quickly with the efficient service. I got almost everything on my grocery list including eggs, lunch meat, packaged soup, lettuce, and oranges. I couldn't find a few specific items like whole grain pasta, but picked up some specialty type goods like vegetable chips and individually packaged frozen tilapia. I list these specific items to detail the kind of products you can get at Aldi for a very reasonable price. The prices are kept low, in part, because of some of the effort the customer must put forth. This means bringing back your shopping cart to the main entrance (and you'll get your quarter deposit back as a reward). You must also buy bags, or bring your own. Much like a member card club, you can use available boxes as well. I think these minor adjustments to the typical American grocery shopping experience are worth the great value you get shopping at Aldi. read more

My favorite Aldi so far! We've now moved to a different neighborhood, but may still trek up here occasionally for one, the tax break of being in Evanston rather than Chicago and two, the location right next to Petsmart and Steak 'n Shake. It's often pretty much one stop shopping for us - gas and a wash at the place across the street, lunch/dinner at Steak 'n Shake, then the hubby and son head into Petsmart to visit the kitties and pick up litter and food for our two furballs and I head to Aldi for the people food. :) This location is not usually crowded and often has the weekly specials out early (nice surprise). There's nothing hugely different about this location, but we like it. Parking is easy too. Usually find everything we need and a few extras, feeding a family of 3 for about $60 a week. I love this store. I'm a young working gal...I can't believe how much money I save on food when I shop here. The staff is great (one gal even went in the back room to get me something that hadn't been unpacked yet) and all the food is really fresh. The place is well organized and clean. They have a great variety of food, and the prices are amazing. Last time I bought cherries at Whole Foods, they were $6.99 a lb. At Aldi, they're $2.99/lb. Aldi offers sweet deals in their weekly specials section; come on Wednesdays for the freshest produce. They definitely sell quality food for low prices, but be prepared for the following: 1. Bring a quarter to retrieve your grocery cart. 2. Bag your own groceries in your own grocery bags. They charge for extra bags. 3. Pay by cash/debit card during checkout. I have found the produce at Aldi to be much better than at other grocery stores. In fact, there are plenty of healthy eating choices at this store. I happen to be a vegetarian and can find plenty of non meat options. They sell assorted other items there, as well. I bought a nice shag, area rug there recently at a great price. I love Aldi's. Yes, the selection may not be as wide as a full grocery store but wow, the money you save on all the staples. We buy all of our dairy, bacon, cereal, canned foods, snacks, frozen veggies, frozen juice and much of our fresh fruits and veggies. Sure we could afford to go more expensive stores but why would we want to throw our money away for "brand names" of consumed products. I love Aldi's. Yes, the selection may not be as wide as a full grocery store but it's really nice. I love this store but some of the workers are not nice at all,and I'm talking about two black women that work there. One works the cash register and the other was stocking shelves,this happen on more then one occasion. The most resent one was last Friday 07/31/14 I went in there to do my shopping like I always do and I asked this young woman "were there any more onion" (I was going to say "buns" but before I could even finish my sentence she cut me off and said "NO we don't,not until tomorrow" I said ookkaayy!? and walked off while she stared me down. I continued my shopping and we met again in a different isle of the store and again she was stocking shelves and staring me down again, I was looking for something and I didn't want to ask her any more questions so I found someone else to ask and she helped me,we when back over to that same isle where Ms.Thing was and she saw her helping me and she said " oh really"? And I just kept on walking. Then the black chick at the cash register,again didn't say "hi or hello" to me when I went to her line but as always she speaks to the other none African American customers,why I don't know I can only speculate that maybe I'm more pretty then they are or maybe they don't like their own race or maybe it's a woman thing I don't know but we as women need to stop this and learn to just get along.
