Great selection of Caribbean groceries. Fresh produce, excellent prices and good meat options.

Bag of carrots, apples, 5 beets, 2 sweet potatoes, carton of strawberries, oranges, ginger root, kale and cilantro...guess the price...

It's easy to not really notice this place at first. There's a Jewel not far away, so the programming of going to Jewel made me forget to check it out. but.... I finally have and I think it's great. 1. The freshness alone, sells it. I didn't have to hurry up and eat the produce the next day. 2. So much variety. Produce that are "exotic" to me. It makes me want to buy things and look up the recipes after you get it home. 3. A woman was straight up eating a peach. Sometimes people pick off a grape to check the freshness and flavor. She was eating the peach and her friend calls her out on it. She goes, "I gotta taste it".... Just be cool. Don't eat the fruit.

Most of the cashiers are disrespectful and straight up rude. Overall other staff members are very nice and professional.

I love heading over to the Evanston Farmer's market in the summer. Growing up, I was always under…read morethe assumption farmer's markets only sold fruit and vegetables. Boy was I wrong! The Evanston Farmer's market not only sells produce but a host of other things. My last visit, I spent nearly 2 hours going through at least 3 dozen vendors. If you're a foodie or a home chef, you will love this place. I found things like specialty pasta from Pasta Pappone, pasta sauce from the River Valley Ranch tent and some beautiful gladiolus stems I sent over to my mom the following day. There are vendors that sell meats and cheese. A few even offer home delivery services. The food vendor line up at this market is also very good and worth checking out. This year Defloured Bakery from Chicago has a tent and they have some of the best gluten free cupcakes in town. I ended up buying a Whoopie pie. If you want to order ahead of time, Defloured accepts pre-orders online for pick up at the market. Their online pre-order menu has more items for sale versus onsite. You would just prepay before picking up your baked goods. A few local restaurants like Gotta B Crepes and Cocina Azteca have set up space so if you get hungry from all the walking those options are readily available. I've tried both restaurants and both are delicious. If you park in the nearby public parking garage next to the Hilton Garden Inn, your parking is free as long as you remember to validate your ticket at the City of Evanston tent on your way out. My only ding on the market (and this might be COVID related) is the lack of seating on the grounds. The Farmer's market page on the City of Evanston website says food can't be consumed on site. So if you plan on eating, you will need to take it to-go. If you are in the area, I would recommend coming to the market at least once for the experience.

Trader Joe's - Holiday Hash comes preseasoned. Easy peasy. Just add a little olive oil and sautee.

Parking: the lot is small but I always find a spot towards back of the lot. The tasting section in Trader Joe's is very nice. The tasting section staff member is always a wonderful conversationalist, very engaging. Store has semi wide aisles, nicely decorated and signs in store sharing prices. For brunch I was pleased to buy all items for under $20: Charles Shaw wine, Kale and Broccoli salad, Vanilla Cake and Cookies. My favorite item was the cake! I can't wait to try all the cake flavors. Cashier is so helpful. I find shopping at Trader Joe's an extremely enjoyable experience.

The bad: been going to this location for over a year, I noticed they are clearly shrinking their size for the same price. And I also noticed it for high selling product. The Belgian waffle took 30% down in size (same price) and they did the same for some breads, like the Trader Joe's Tuscan, same price and but it shrinked. It is not just tariffs people, I am well connected in the food industry, greed is also part of the game. I make a good income I can all afford all of those but the last few times were an absolute joke. Trader Joe's we like you but we see also when you become greedy, if you want to keep my business and other that can afford it, you are going to communicate way more clearly these changes. Tariff sucks, I get it but greed too.
