I love Devon market and it's so nice that a small market is able to exist in the age of Kroger and Whole Foods. They have all kinds of brands but specialize in international brands and have a cool sweets section with candy and cookies from all over Europe. They also have beers and wines from all over Europe if that's your thing. Their produce is very reasonably priced and they have a really decent prepared food section also reasonably priced. Their bakery section has the best deal in the area if you're vegetarian/vegan -- $3 veg shawarma, and it's legit. The shawarma with meat is only slightly more expensive. They also have a really big selection of baked deserts. I love giving my business to this neighborhood institution! read more

Came to this market in Rogers Park and was surprised how good things are. It has a lot of what you find in a typical grocery store. Devon Market is where to go to get the basics. Even so, it's locally owned. That's enough of a reason to buy from here over those. A place that's been here for quite awhile. It's been serving Rogers Park since 2001, being one of the bigger independent grocers. The majority of the stuff is the basics you can find in other places. One difference is the stuff here is all fresh. They personally inspect everything that comes to the store. A lot of it not only looks good, but tastes good. There's a pretty big produce section. Even with the high quality, the prices here are pretty affordable. They have a lot of cheaper specials, so be on the lookout for a few. Basically this is not the typical grocery store with the same boring crap. It's fresher and has better quality. The prices are cheaper than on much of the same types of stuff. read more

Also, their deal of paying for a portion of a ride-share service after spending a certain amount is a nice incentive to come back. read more

Love this place and its selection. They have vegan gf items in their premade sections. They discount premade dinner items about to go bad to reduce food waste which matters a lot to me as a consumer. My favorite is their tofu pad Thai. Their Ethiopian zucchini/tomato dish is good too. Staff are super nice. I just wish they had more organic offerings, but even that is pretty good compared to other stores. read more

Their produce is great and very reasonably priced, and they have a ton of great items, especially if you are looking for Hispanic ingredients (they have a great array of dry chiles) or East European pantry staples. Also excellent Middle Eastern breads. All employees have always been super nice in my experience. My go-to store. read more

I live next to this store and often go there for groceries. The store is good, it has everything you need, there are even some products that you cannot find in other stores. I really like their baked goods, especially the "Honey cake and Napoleon" cakes, they are very tasty and fresh, and they also have other flavors of cakes, I recommend you try them. I only buy caviar here because their caviar is the most delicious. They have some types of red caviar that are very tasty and the quality is good. Community grocer that tries hard to have unique offerings and competitive prices. They succeed! The bakery has delicious offerings, but the star of that show is the shawarma sandwiches. Five bucks and some change for a wrap that is packed full and absolutely delicious, a little more for baguette sandwich. PHENOMENAL SANDWICH. Every spring I host a family dinner and the butcher counter gets me great brisket cuts, exactly as I order them. They are a real butcher that can work with you and get you what you need! read more

Honestly, coming in here is a HUGE nightmare. One of the girls here has a giant crush on my boyfriend and is always super rude to me. From cancelling my Ubers when I spend over the $150 here and making me wait in the cold to not charging my products correctly to just these death stares and glares and just being really downright unpleasant. She really sucks. I have gotten groceries here in the past since moving to this city bc it's the neighborhood grocery store and I really thought it would be a good business to support but it's always been a really unpleasant experience from her and a few others here as well. Not only does she make me super uncomfortable, it's really unpleasant for my boyfriend too. He gets bullied. Not to overshare but we're both autistic and I've told them this and have a difficult time standing up for ourselves in really unpleasant situations like this -- to be honest we will probably end our relationship with this store and will stick to Aldi's and Whole Foods down the street as much as possible from now on :/ It's hard enough moving to a different city without a friendly face, it's really tough and you have to go and make it even more unpleasant without any understanding of our situation, not to mention how wildly unpleasant and inappropriate your work and behavior is. Even one of the older ladies there was like -- she gets a lot of groceries here, you should be nice to her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ she was actually gleeful when she found out where I lived bc she had to call the Uber. Great cultural market in the Edgewater neighborhood near Devon and Clark. Fresh and unique foods from all over the world. From smoked fish to several types of dates, Devon Market has found a new fan. I was probably in here an hour just looking at all the treats from around the world they had before I put anything in my basket. People watching here is priceless! I have been coming here for years , and it is only getting better. All the updates they did are absolutely beautiful. The staff Is so friendly and very helpful when you need to find something. On my recent trip I saw they had some of my favorite chocolates The Toblerone for only $4.99 when everywhere else is like $10 ea, I don't mind saving five dollar. When you walk in they have such a beautiful bakery , all the delicious sweets they have for all occasions, over Christmas they had the cutest desserts with snowmen and reindeer, and they were so delicious. And I saw today they had ones for Valentine's Day. I had to pick some up for my husband as a treat. And another great thing is that you can have the most delicious cup of coffee while you shop , it will help keep you Warm on these cold days. I could not be happier with Devon Market! I haven't been in Devon Market for a long period of time because I wanted to try new supermarkets out and let me tell you the place looks amazing! The place looks a lot better and the workers and people were incredible. Also, going into the store I noticed they added a bakery, what really stuck me was the Bosnian Baklava and when I tell you that baklava truly tasted authentic and good. Sometimes I even get sweet notes from the staff! The quality and diversity of items is incredible, and I love being able to find things I cannot find in chain retailers, even in Uptown. I was excited to shop here a few years after coming back to the area but I was hugely disappointed by the service. Last week the cashier's computer broke down and the cashier (young girl ) was clearly annoyed, rolinger eyes, no apologies for customers inconvenience of waiting 7min. Today cashier Mariela took my shopping basket filled with 16 yogurts and dumped them out with force - I can only guess she was upset that I had asked if it was ok to scan from the basket. A friendly request from her would have been enough to have it out. These girls don't just need training in customer service, they need to learn common decency first. I overall like the store... I have been noticing that AA are watched closely in this store. I have come into the store with a scarf or something covering my head and I am watched like a I am stealing. I have been followed before in this store. I come and spend plenty of money in this store. I never usually write reviews but this place really deserves one. They renovated the entire front of the store, which gives Devon Market such a nice, warm, friendly feel to it. The cakes and pastries displayed in that area always look delicious and I just can't stop myself from purchasing something from there every time I stop by!. Aside from the renovations, their overall item selection is amazing!! it's so diverse and I notice that they're always experimenting with new items, which really helps me expand my international cuisine knowledge!.
