Chicago Produce is not far from my house, but I finally went to buy groceries here for the first time recently. Chicago Produce is on Lawrence just a bit west of the Kimball Brown Line stop. It is not a huge grocery store, but it is a fair size and has enough interesting products on the shelves to make it a pleasant shopping experience. There is a parking lot next to the store that always seems busy, as it shares space with a 24 hour bakery. The first part of the store features fruits and vegetables. You will see some random pinatas hanging from the ceiling (for purchase??). My lovely friend mentioned that she bought some of the best (leanest) cuts of chicken that she has ever seen. Indeed there was recently a crazy good sale where you could practically stock up on meats for the year. The deli counter also featured some fine cheeses, and there was a cooler with some fresh tempting tamales. The workers all seemed very friendly and helpful during our recent visit. This place is my place to run out and get that thing I forgot place. The produce is as good as Harvestime and the produce area is clean and well stocked. You can't get everything you want but you can get what you need to make a good dinner. The cashiers are always friendly and gracious. read more

I am filing a complaint against the owners of this grocery store. The Greek owners constantly follow me when I purchase my soda. Please read the 1 star reviews on the first page, this store needs to be fined for following Latino Males throughout the store. Excellent store. I wanted to check this place out because it holds a childhood memory to me. When we lived in Albany Park in the late 70s to mid 80s it was called Gikas Bros. It's changed names several times over the years. Now it's Chicago Produce. A Mexican grocery store. It's a decent sized neighborhood store. Nice selection of produce. Good prices for the size of the store. Now a good store like this has to have a great meat section and they did not disappoint. Picked up some skirt steak. Around 3 pounds for 20 bucks and it was great. They cleaned it and put it through a machine which I think tenderizes the steak. Made my mom a great dinner with it. read more

Their meat section is amazing. I got 1.3pounds/2$ beef bones and made a lip-smacking bone broth. Their beef, pork and wings are also super fresh, have good cuts and inexpensive compared to Jewel Osco. I came out with 3 pounds of beef bones, a pound of ground beef, 2 pounds of chicken wings, 2 pounds of fresh eggplant, spinach and only paid 18$. Recently, I've been seeing some improvements on Chicago Produce overall. Their presentations on fresh produce are full and organized. Their prices are more competitive in comparison to the nearby Mayfair Market. In addition, I feel that their meat and seafood departments are better than what I saw last year. Especially the seafood department, I've been sensing a major change on offering better quality items. Since I rarely come in during lunch hours, I cannot really comment on the hot food counter, but I've occasionally seen some leftovers and they look quite decent to me. I recently stopped by here to purchase items for guacamole. Avocados were 2 for $1, limes were 15 for $1, cilantro bundles 3 for $1... I would have to disagree with the other reviewer about the produce prices. I can't find prices like that at Jewel or Dominick's. Just sayin'. Along with fresh produce, they also carry Hispanic staples - dulce de leche, Adobo and Sazon seasoning (must-haves in my house), dried beans, spices, Goya brand empanada dough in the freezer, several brands of tortillas, and more. They have $5 rotisserie chicken, carnitas, and Spanish rice at the prepared food counter, as well as fresh store-made salsa and guacamole by the produce section. This grocery store is very good for certain kinds of produce, but today I bought three eats of corn for $2.39 and red peppers for about $2/lb. In terms of hispanic food staples, this place has it all including orange Mexican pop. I find the meat cuts to be lacking, today went in for some porterhouse steaks and found $3.50 cuts that were way undersized. Props for having ground sausage and selling fryer chicken, but no props for not selling deboned chicken thighs. I like the rotisserie chicken, spanish rice, and chicken wings sold every day. The deli has most meats I am looking for but roast beef is never to be found and the deli workers never cut the meat thin to my specifications so the texture of the meat is not as good as it could be. Yes, they sell frozen pizza puff. You'll even find frozen rabbit in their freezer - frozen rabbit? You got me, man! All in all good enough for basic grocery needs, but lacking in some dimensions in snacks and deli meat. read more

Crazy Cheap prices, like $0.75 loaf of bread, $2.99 Peanut butter, $2.50 juice, $0.99 cheese and really great produce: I could smell the sweet apples as soon as I walked in! Really good quality onions, the garlic bulbs were tight, the greens still crisp. A ton of pinatas hanging from the ceiling to crack me up. I saw no expired product- but dude, are you buying boxed food like Hamburger Helper and Kraft? Why? That stuff is no good! Even broke you can make a decent grilled cheese! Make your own yummy Soup! (Which is what I did, using the aforementioned produce, having just moved close by.) They have fruit popsicles! Try the lime- so refreshing on a hot day! I even bought Goose Island Beer for Boyfriend. I do not understand the reviewers who were snubbed or are saying mean racist things- that is I suspect an outright lie and not right. I speak English and am trying to learn Spanish. Have Encountered nothing but extraordinarily kind employees who politely tolerate my embarrassingly broken Spanish and wind up patiently reverting to English just fine. Never been here before....it reminded me of some of the other ethnic supermarkets I been to, yet this one seemed more Spanish due to the area. (No big deal) Coke in a bottle is always awesome. The selections here were good, didn't need too much but people were friendly and the deli section was small (not to say it isn't good because of this) I dont frequent the area as much but I may stop back by if I do. A big plus is the parking as Lawrence usually is crap parking. One thing I though was weird was when I paid with my card...it took longer than usual to run (like over a min) and the cashier tells me with all the cards it does that so it is normal. Maybe they need to upgrade something? I a lso believe they take WICK cards in here for those that use it. read more

We stopped by here to grab some fruit after eating at a nearby restaurant. We'd never been before but figured we'd check it out. For 24 dollars, we bought a papaya, pink lady apples, 2 pineapples, fuyu persimmons, swiss chard, and zucchini. The prices are great and they have a good selection of fruit. Some of the kale looked kinda of wilted so we didn't buy that, but they have a wide enough variety that you can see what looks fresh and buy that instead. I wouldn't seek this grocery store out, but if I were in the area, I would check out the fruit selection again. read more

Their produce isn't much cheaper than Jewel or Dominick's unless it's limes, mangoes, chilies or stuff that's advertised on their window. They have a butcher shop where Spanish is preferred. WIC and Link cards are always welcome. If you order more than one item at the deli counter you may just get a sigh from the deli person. Their parking lot is a nightmare because it cannot accommodate the many junk trucks and custom mini vans that go in and out of there. Check for dust on some of their products, then check the expiration date...you may be surprised. read more

This is a good medium sized market that took care of us for a couple years when we lived in the neighborhood. They carry the essentials plus a fair amount of extras and usually have a couple brand choices and generics for popular items. The meat department really stands out for me- literally some of the cleanest, freshest tasting, tightly trimmed beef, chicken, pork I've ever found. Mariano's and Jewel sell meat the smells old and slimey by comparison. I should mention then make some of their own fresh sausages and they're delicious. read more

Has goods from different ethnic groups, including Asian, Middle Eastern, and Africa. Although most of the employees are native Latin Americans, I have never come across anyone who didn't speak English. The quality of their produce is comparable to Jewel and Dominick's, and the prices are economically friendly. Parking lot is shared with many other stored in the shopping center and finding a parking spot on a Sunday can be a nightmare. I live by the store and I shop here almost daily. read more

Their produce is SO much cheaper than Jewel. This grocery store and neighborhood is about FRESH produce. If you want to buy boxed food then just go to the Jewel and buy your extremely unnecessarily overpriced (and select unripe) produce. I rarely see rotten food there. Avacados spoil quickly when they're not refrigerated, so sometimes they will get spoil. Ever since Mayfair closed i had to find alternatives close to home. I went to Chicago Produce to check out their produce. As i went to the area where the produce was I heard 2 women screaming. I looked over and saw a HUGE rat just wondering around. We mentioned it to one of the workers there and they just laughed it off. I will never go there I advice anyone from going there. Decent and inexpensive produce--much less expensive than Jewel or Dominicks. Today, I got a pineapple for $0.99, a 10 oz. container of fresh store-made guacamole for $1.80, and three limes for a quarter. They also have the best selection of Jarritos in town (I recommend the electric-green colored lime flavor). read more

This is my neighborhood grocery store and I LOVE this place. The employees have always been warm and inviting. They all ask you about your day, what you're cooking, etc. the prices are amazing and there is an amazing choice of items that I've never seen before. You will end up paying more for brand name items, but that's kind of to be expected I think. Overall, this place is amazing! read more

I work for a very well known high-end grocery store ( sorry can't say the name) however I always go back to Chicago produce for my daily needs, why? because they carry everything I need from my produce to my meats and candy! They have a very nice selection of products and I was so surprise when I found a selection of items from Peru! They have aji amarillo, mazamorra and huge corn ( from ecuador) and Rocoto ( vey hot pepper) ...the parking lot is small for the kind of business they offer but has never being hard for me to find a space...the deli people is always friendly and ready to help......did I tell you that if you have an special request all you need to do is talk to the manager in charge and they will be more than happy to help you....the prices are very affordable and I don't see myself shopping anywhere else... read more
