Affordable FRESH FRESH FRESH. The best produce section of any store I have been to in Chicago. Speaking of fresh and affordable, you HAVE TO CHECK OUT THE SALE PRODUCE. For two bucks, I got two heads of broccoli and a head of lettuce, as well as about 9 banana, poblano, and green peppers. See photo! Nice staff! Get the queso crema and the chicharron and carnitas in the deli. Last time I went, he carnitas were unfortunately very very dry, and inedible :( It was a Friday around 7pm. But this was only once. Usually they are meaty and melty. Re produce, I love their plums in the summer, bok choy, cabbage, lettuce, peppers, broccoli, carrots, mangos.

Good little store with reasonable produce and pretty good beef empanadas

Edgewater Produce has been here forever! I shop here with my mother for meat or fruit sometimes. It's one of Andersonville's gems!

This approach saved me 30-40% as my weekly bill at Jewel would consistently be $30-$40 more on any given week.

It is within walking distance, which is a plus, though I do watch the prices and go to Mariano's or Jewel when they offer more for less. EVERYONE at the meat/cheese counter is great, and friendly. They really do know their stuff, though at times, I wish they had a ticketed numbered system. It would prevent me from going off on some of the older Eastern Euro clientele when they try to butt in line. NOT happening! The cashiers are efficient, though there is a tall male one that is new to me. Feels like his name should be Draco. Would almost pass for AI, due to his height an personality, though AI can be programmed to be charming and efficient. He literally saw me put down items on the belt and looked like he was confused as to what his role was, then asked me if I wanted a bag for all my purchases, despite it being obvious that I had none with me. I had to get snippy, because, well, I had to get snippy. Oprah did mention them in one of her shows, so they got "trendy" afterwards, but as other reviewers have said, they do carry items that you would find more at a Treasure Island than a Jewel, Aldi, or Mariano's. They are good for that. Now, if they would only work on their AI cashiers and make them more personable, then I would give them a five star rating. Especially since peeps in the hood voted down Amazon from taking over and planting seeds on the corner of Western and Lawrence, to take over the grocery store market.

It's a pretty standard small grocery store, with a few things that may be hard to find elsewhere. They have some international brands, although the Mexican grocery store farther west on Lawrence (Lindo Michigan) is a better bet for Central American things. They sell some local brands, including freshly-roasted coffee from Brü Coffeeworks, also on Lawrence. Prices are a smidge higher than you might find elsewhere, but at least they're consistent and don't require you to download an app or join a frequent shopper club or whatever. I do wish they would stay open a little later. The staff are helpful, and they have a good selection of spices and seasonings. I wasn't able to find caraway seed elsewhere, for some reason, but when I asked a staff member if they had any, he immediately took me to the exact spot on the shelf where they had it in two different container sizes.

A long time business in the community. It opened in 2004 at this location. A few hard to find specialties like Caribbean, Latin, and West African ingredients can be found. They also have hot food service. Has quite a lot inside. It's located on Morse Avenue at Greenview and is popular with many people. Sometimes they have good sales on particular items, such as produce that's overripe. I really love their selection of prepared foods, both entrees and bakery items. Their tiramisu "Greco traditional style" is some of the best tiramisu I've ever had!! Yes, their recently implemented "bag policy" is somewhat of a hassle, but I imagine they are such a small store that theft is actually an issue. Therefore they are trying to keep their profit margins in the black and I get that! They always have homeless people outside the store, many of whom I now know by name, who are just trying to get something to eat (and they do, from me and other neighbors), but it's still a liability for the store if someone steals from them. This isn't Walmart, i don't condone thieving from local markets!

The manager here wanted to save what $15 so another staff member could be stocking a shelf? Crazy. Absolutely insane. This store is pretty decent overall, but the levels of disrespect this shows for your own staff and your community is just unreal. Whoever staffed the store that night should be deeply ashamed of themselves. The stockholders are gonna be ok. Put a working staff member on registers at all times period. What if someone got injured? The self checkout here has a TINY spot to put your bag. Move the bag a bit and the scale freaks out. I can think of endless reasons for a cashier to be working at all times. Think of members of your community who need help if you run a FOOD STORE. Think of ways to improve your business rather than screwing customers. What about people who are neurodivergent and have disabilities? All to save like $100 a week. I bet they pull cashiers every night that last hour. What an F you to the people you sell to. TLDR: 9:30pm and NO cashier working a register. Elderly woman forced to use self checkout with a cart full of heavy items.

Thus, imagine my excitement when I moved to Chicago and Aldi was on my block. While this will probably remain my main grocery store, as far as the other Aldi's I've been to are concerned, it's not great. Not terrible, not bad, just not as amazing as I've come to know and love. The main reason for my disappointment is that they're not well stocked. First, there are some empty shelves, and while this isn't completely unexpected, the number of them is rather surprising. Second, this Aldi doesn't have the wonderful Aldi finds that aren't groceries. The aisle with seasonal decor, small appliances, and even occasionally furniture would be the first I'd visit. However, these are sorely missing from this location. However, this may be because this is a smaller format store (kind of like one encounters with Target). Otherwise, while you'd have to defer to Reddit for people's favorite and least favorite products, Aldi had a wide assortment of great products at reasonable prices, and some very respectable private labels (generic brands).
