I love Trader Joe's and have been to many locations in both IL and CA. Recently I was looking for some to go foods since I was hosting a brunch for 2: just me and a friend. Parking: the lot is small but I always find a spot towards back of the lot. The tasting section in Trader Joe's is very nice. The tasting section staff member is always a wonderful conversationalist, very engaging. Store has semi wide aisles, nicely decorated and signs in store sharing prices. For brunch I was pleased to buy all items for under $20: Charles Shaw wine, Kale and Broccoli salad, Vanilla Cake and Cookies. My favorite item was the cake! I can't wait to try all the cake flavors. Cashier is so helpful. I find shopping at Trader Joe's an extremely enjoyable experience. read more

I am European, I know Trader Joe's and Aldi and they are kind of the bottom of the barrel in Germany but they are actually décent in the US. The good: the staff the people! Thank you! The bad: been going to this location for over a year, I noticed they are clearly shrinking their size for the same price. And I also noticed it for high selling product. The Belgian waffle took 30% down in size (same price) and they did the same for some breads, like the Trader Joe's Tuscan, same price and but it shrinked. It is not just tariffs people, I am well connected in the food industry, greed is also part of the game. I make a good income I can all afford all of those but the last few times were an absolute joke. Trader Joe's we like you but we see also when you become greedy, if you want to keep my business and other that can afford it, you are going to communicate way more clearly these changes. I love Trader Joe's for their unique brand of groceries. We are regulars and come weekly to shop however I feel this location desperately needs to be relocated somewhere in town to a bigger store with a larger parking lot. Oftentimes parking is challenging and occasionally we find ourselves circling a number of times before a space opens up. Also, it seems like the store has supply chain issues because staple items (i.e. eggs and non-refrigerated juices) go unavailable for weeks. The floral section has good variety and if you are DIY savvy you can make a nice arrangement for excellent value. Skip this location. They don't even sell gallons of regular distilled or spring water. They have a 5 dollar gallon of water which is absurd. I spoke to two employees and a manager and no one could explain this to me. This is maybe the only "grocery store" I've ever been to that doesn't sell gallons of water. Wtf? read more

This Trader Joe's is diagonally across from Jewel, and while getting in is okay, getting out is a bit tricky with the constant traffic. As other TJs, they have flowers/plants, breads, teas, condiments, fresh produce, cheeses/sausages, ready-made salads, nut and dried fruit mixes, wine/beer/juices, and desserts. We came here to get an Advent calendar (for dogs) for the nephew, which I'm hoping he'll like! I liked that they showcased local beer (aka, Sketchbook). I came specifically for 3 items my mother requested on this visit. I must thank Jim who went above and beyond to assist me locating the items, calling other locations, and check when the other two items will be shipped to the store. I also got to chat with other friendly staff who were near the service desk at the time. The store was clean, organized and well stocked. So, why 4 stars, you ask? Well, you all know by now, I love taking photos of interesting products. I spend more time taking photos than grocery shop most of the time. I was approached by a staff member, who was very cordial, inquiring the reason I was photographing. She then informed me photography is generally not allowed. It was never an issue during my previous visits. I am also very cautious not to include shoppers in my photos. I saw the cashier eyeing me walking toward his check out station. He then went out of his way to help a customer in another lane. I am respectful of each and every business's policy. If no photos of any kind is allowed, kindly informed us (you know who you are) by posting a notice by the entrance. read more

This location is maybe the kindest location in the country; I came here last night. My child and I just had something disappointing happen. We were both pretty deflated. We picked up some milk and fruit. The man checking our groceries noticed we were down and offered us both a sucker then a bouquet of flowers. Really unexpected!!! Our moods flipped 160 degrees. Evanston - I've really come to rely on Trader Joe's for a number of thangs that I use all the time. Life's necessities like dark chocolate peanut butter cups, ciabatta bread w/everything on it, lasagna (quick simple & easy dinner). It's not as good as my home made sauce but I don't need to spend hours making a red sauce and then adding all the other ingredients like ricotta, mozzarella.... Just pop it in the oven and bake & viola easy peasy. I get a lot of my greens like arugula, butter lettuce & kale from Trader Joe's too. They have a great selection of cheeses. I particularly like the mushroom Brie and many of the crackers for snackin. They are usually fairly well stocked but lately they seem to be running out of certain items. The staff is always very helpful & willing to help you find items because all the Trader Joe's seem to stock their items in different areas. (Except things in the refrigerated section. In general I find a selection of items that I enjoy and can either pop in the microwave or oven. This sure helps when after a hard day of work you find many meals ready to heat & eat. I don't think I've ever written a review for a Trader Joe's before, as there is a certain familiar uniformity that I've come to expect regardless of location, and over the years I've probably been to at least a few dozen stores over multiple states. Recently we found ourselves in Evanston for an extended stay, and visited this location on multiple occasions to pick up quick bites for breakfast and lunch. As compared to other stores, this location had pretty much all the same stuff, with some local variation. So why write the review at all, if there's nothing distinctive. Well, I just felt like I should give a shoutout to the workers here, because they are, by far, the friendliest and most helpful staff that we have ever encountered, which is saying a lot because most TJ staff anywhere are pretty friendly folk. But at this store, we were literally greeted by everyone we passed, received spontaneous recommendations without asking, and engaged in pleasant banter at checkout. We were particularly grateful for the warning of severe weather during one of our trips, as we had no idea that a tremendous thunderstorm was bearing down on us within the hour. So yeah, with regard to product selection and prices there's really nothing to distinguish this TJ from anyplace else, but the people are great. read more

Oh how I have missed this place! It wasn't until I ran out of my beloved onion salt (their's is the best & makes your food heavenly), that I had to make a quick run this morning. Thankfully, the parking lot was half-full & the store was rather empty. I intended on buying just the salt & a reusable bag, but alas... temptation lives here. I noticed my favorite frozen French green beans were waiting for me, as well as delicious potstickers. Have I been in exile that long? I have seemingly forgotten all the culinary goodies Trader Joe's had. Having my arms full of items, an available cashier helped me get my things to the checkout counter, while I apologized for not grabbing a basket. Cashier was super friendly & understanding (they all are). I managed to find my reusable bag, which I was told was going to be complimentary & was on my way. I love going to this location! They have really made shopping during a pandemic feel efficient, welcoming and safe. Their parking lot is small so be prepared to wait, park on the meter side or parking garage. They have someone at the doors greeting you and giving you a cleaned/sanitized cart. I love how they keep tabs on how many people go in. They have hand sanitizer before you enter as well. They have pretty good markers on where to stand 6ft apart. Customers seem to be pretty aware of space/distancing from others. The cashiers/baggers are always friendly and welcoming. They have a shield on each checkout . They take your cart and ask you to wait by the marked line as they ring you up. Once they are done, they ask you to step forward to pay. The card machine is covered and they have hand sanitizer too as well. Overall I love this place and the employees that work there :). Seriously withdrawal. It's so great finding so many items that are exactly what I want. I'm a bit fan of their small meals and ginger products! They have a tasty ginger, lemon, echinacea drink I frequently get and such a good variety of vegetables frozen or fresh. It's really a game changer having one locally. The customer service is consistently good- even excellent- which is not all to be taken for granted these days! I genuinely enjoy chatting with the cashiers during check out, which they seem to enjoy as well. They are around when you need them, and happy to help. They feature a nice selection of varied foods , including foods inspired by cultures around the world, and prepared foods. And treats of various sorts- Tates cookies under a TJ's label, high quality ice cream, lots of kinds of Belgian chocolate! We pretty often buy plants there. And the prices are generally significantly lower than other places for the same fact same product. Not the best place for picking up items to use in baking from scratch. The parking lot is terribly designed- seems like a TJ's thing based on visits to other locations. I walk most of the time to avoid the stress of the parking lot. But in spite of those minor caveats, we love our neighborhood TJ's! read more

This is the only store I will go to during COVID. I was crazy anxious the first time I went grocery shopping since this all started, but I was assured by friends that TJ's was safe and taking every precaution. I was so relieved to see that is the case. I hope that they continue to keep these precautions in place until the pandemic is completely over. Yes, you have to wait in line. Yes, they have the cones spaced out 6 feet apart to make sure the line doesn't get too close together. Yes, they require masks. Yes, they want you to stay 6 feet away from the cashier and then they step away and call you up to use the credit card machine and grab your cart. It's to keep their staff and customers safe. If you have a problem with it, then I'm sorry, but you're entitled and exactly why the pandemic continues to rage on. Yes, it's an exercise in patience, but when a virus is killing or severely incapacitating otherwise healthy people, it's worth taking and extra 10 or 20 minutes to get your groceries to know it's being done safely. I've gone here three times (late April, mid June, and this morning), and each time I only had to wait in line for at most 5 minutes, everyone was courteous, and the staff was very helpful and apologetic. They also have been great about putting dry goods together and all cold items together, which I appreciate because it makes it easier for me to quickly sort in my garage. (Yes, I'm one of those people who will keep things in the car for 2-3 days to ensure it's fine, while bringing in the cold food right away and wiping it down with Clorox -- better safe than sorry). Each time I've been able to fully load up my cart with enough to last me 6-8 weeks, and the store has been well-stocked so that it's not slim pickings. The first time I went they were limiting TP and some frozen veggies to 1 or 2 per person due to people hoarding, but everything is back to normal in terms of supply now. Before you start complaining about how they aren't making small talk with you and they make you stand behind a line at the checkout, maybe appreciate the fact that they are literally front line employees potentially risking their lives and their family's lives by making sure that you have food. It's not their job to keep you entertained or get close to you just to make you feel better. They are doing everything they can, and yes, in many cases more than other stores, to keep their customers and staff safe. It's clear they value their employees and their customers, more so than other stores that aren't limiting the number of people who can go in and aren't enforcing the mask policy. read more

Relative to other TJs I've been to, this one feels Medium in size. It's not super spacious and it's also not super tiny and cramp. So far I've been able to get all the usual items I'm looking for. I love Trader Joe's, but this location loses a star because the parking lot can be a nightmare even on a weekday afternoon. Plus, when it's warmer out there's always someone right outside asking for money. Props to them as about 4 out of 5 times the free samples are stocked and flowing in the back. read more

I really miss Kathy.. There used to be this lovely lady named Kathy that has now apparently relocated to another location but she used to make my shopping experience amazing! She remembered my name my toddlers name, and she was just so pleasant, the epitome of going above and beyond, she is definitely missed. All the employees are very helpful everytime I've been, the store is always very clean. They do tend to have samples out almost everytime I go. The parking can be a pain at times because it's so small but surprisingly enough I've always been able to find parking as I get there, so I guess I've been really lucky! They have a great wine selection! I've always been satisfied with my purchases! I had to return some apples one time because when I cut into one the was like webbing inside of it obviously from a bug, I've never seen this before so I returned the entire bag, this obviously had nothing to do with TJ, but guest services was very empathetic and processed my refund! Overall, every trip I make I'm never disappointed, I do wish Kathy was still here, but great location! read more

I really do like Trader Joe's. It may not have everything you're looking for, but it has a lot of items you can't get anywhere else. Prices are great, even for organic stuff, and we never have to worry about something being out of stock. With those prices, we don't mind going out on a limb to try something we haven't tried before. The frozen section is especially valuable for that (although I do wish that TJ would enclose them. It seems wasteful to pump all of that coolant and electricity--but this is a problem/concern for all grocery stores). As a bonus, some of their own TJ-branded stuff is really, really good. I have been here both during lunch time and after work, experiencing both "rushes". Regardless of how busy it is, I usually don't have to wait long in line. The flowers when you walk in are worth it and a cheap way to bring some color and life to my condo. I love most of their frozen foods, especially the turkey meatballs and fried rice. The Whole Foods that I don't care for is also right up the street...anyway... I love their very reasonably priced flowers; the cones they provide to attach them to your cart to protect them while you shop, their produce section...19 cent bananas! Great kale, spinach, romaine, etc.! Hubby's favorite Jazz apples in a bag for $2.99!, their variety of guacamoles, hummus, salads, unusual snacks that are beyond healthy with a creative mix of ingredients, frozen veggies, and good variety of frozen meals. (Try the chicken tikka masala!!) Their dairy pricing is the only pricing that is higher than the rest of their products and other stores where I shop. (Specifically the milks and cheeses). Yet the breads and other baked goods are reasonable, as are the wines!! I'm currently loving their vanilla bean Greek yogurt! And who can not love the friendly, helpful staff. They always ask if I need help finding anything, and are knowledgeable about the products! I never leave the store with just what was on my grocery list, due to always finding something new or interesting. I always end up trying new snacks or entrees that are available, especially in the frozen section. My daughter LOVES their white cheddar mac 'n cheese! And their individual quiche! And granola bars! Oh and my whole family loves the two-packs of hummus and pita chips! Yum! (The only downside is that there aren't enough pita chips for the portion of hummus.) Trader Joe's appeals to the health conscious, those who do not cook huge meals, vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The only downside for my family is that we can't buy large portions of meats here; the packages are more for individual meals or meals for 2-4 people, tops. But I can get virtually everything else we want/need here. Oh and a bag of boneless, skinless chicken breasts is only $6.99! Nice fish options! Overall, excellent products. I don't know how this is SO CONSISTENT at every Trader Joe's I have ever been at in the country. The staff is always friendly and helpful. UPDATE: This is the only grocery store I feel safe shopping at during covid19 pandemic! They have special hours to accommodate the elderly and disabled, they are wiping down every cart for customers, giving out hand sanitizer as you enter the store and wiping down credit card readers after every customer! I applaud Trader Joe's for these efforts! I live with two immuno suppressed family members so this virus is very real to me. My mom would almost certainly not survive covid19. To the people who have posted negative reviews about the precautions being taken by Trader Joe's, I say wake up! This is very serious and very dangerous. If you don't see that, I suggest educating yourself about the dangers of this pandemic. I have nothing but intense gratitude for the employees at Trader Joe's putting their health on the line in order to support our community! You are amazing! The people who work here keep me coming back! I usually shop on Sundays, by far the busiest day of the week here. As well as a decent selection of produce, meats, and cheeses for those who do. Their cookies are delicious. They have a great wine selection. I have to say I've enjoyed most of the things I've eaten from Trader Joe's. Staff is friendly, and always willing to offer suggestions. They also have a decent-sized parking lot here which can quickly get filled during peak hours. I came early on a weekday and it was pretty quiet. There is street parking also available. I love TJs, but have only been once during the pandemic. When it rained, and there was no line. May I also note, when they first started the line concept, their greeter didn't wear a mask. Yuck. A great convenient location in Evanston! I absolutely love this TJs because it feels like a slice of home for me. It has the main essentials in the snack and frozen aisles but I will say it's often missing items because of delays in shipment or ordering mishaps. I know it's not totally their fault but it does make some trips more frustrating than others to not get what you came for. The produce here is also only really 3/5 starts. Maybe I'm biased coming crom CA but the produce here gets old FAST and doesn't have a lot of juicy flavor either. It might just be a Midwest thing and I might just be oblivious, but regardless if you can find great juicy fresh produce, eat it quick and enjoy it here. Other than that, it's my main place to shop. I've always loved Trader Joe's food and prices and friendly service from staff, but now I must praise them for their incredible honesty, too! I recently lost my small month at a glance calendar that I carry in my purse. I had a lot of cash inside the cover of the calendar. It turns out I had left it at the TJ checkout counter. So I called the manager, and described the calendar. He said they had it. So I asked him to check if there was any cash in it. He said yes, there was and that the checker had turned it in. I felt so relieved and so gratified that there are such amazing, honest people in the world -- at Trader Joe's! The manager wouldn't even take a small cash reward for the checker but said he'd reward him with a free item from the store. The staff and management are amazing!! This location definitely is the best grocery store in the area. With those few times that I went here the store would always be clean and spotless. When I first went here it was easy for me to locate and find things that I needed because everything is well organized. Products are in a good quality. Most of the products are local products but there are also lots of branded or imported products. I never went here without buying something interesting because there are many interesting products inside. The produce is always fresh as well as their flowers that I love to buy and put as a decoration in my place. The prices are fair and reasonable which is really a good thing too. The staffs on the other hand are friendly, accommodating and very helpful. They always greet you with a smile and would help you gladly with anything. I really love this location. I've been shopping here since they opened in Evanston and was so glad to no longer have to make the trip to Glenview. Recently I've been quite disappointed in this location. 3/4 times they're out of items on my list. Either someone isn't ordering well or they're not stocking in a timely manner. The current cast of employees are also not as friendly, knowledgeable, or upbeat as they were when the store first opened. I can no longer plan my grocery shopping around TJs and I don't particularly look forward to going here anymore, so only make a stop when there's something TJs-specific that I need (and have to hope that it's actually there when I arrive). read more
