This is the CVS located in downtown Evanston. Given that it's right next to a large university, I would imagine that the CVS is able to charge whatever prices they want. That being said, the pharmacy does have some sales that make it worth the visit though. In my opinion, you need to do that otherwise you're better off buying items from Target. They do have self check-outs here which is nice. The few times I've gone so far, there hasn't really been a line. I expect this will change once we get back into the fall season though. There are unfortunately some panhandlers right outside the CVS though. read more

The main reason I shop at this particular CVS, is not because of convenience. It is because of the wonderful employee Marguerita. Marguerita, is extremely kind, thoughtful and knows all about CVS products. There have been times when I've gone in to this store after a stressful day and one conversation with Marguerita will lift my spirits. I see her compassion with all CVS customers. There have been times when Marguerita is the only person at check out. However, with several customers one after another, Marguerita remains kind, thoughtful and efficient with every single person. I truly hope CVS values this wonderful employee, as she is the reason so many choose this particular CVS! read more

Avoid at all costs. Repeated very negative experiences with this pharmacy. No basic human empathy to be found, much less customer-oriented service. One pharmacy tech here has the awful combination of aggressive sanctimoniousness and a complete ignorance about her occupation. If you're going to go out of your way to be horrible to your customers, at least make sure you're in the right! I doubt this attitude is hers alone but who knows. The pharmacist is pleasant but does nothing to lead or change the culture here. He is aware of the issues above which I have discussed with him directly. That failure to act is the bigger tragedy in my opinion, but maybe he has and the corporate engine has just quieted him. Either way, avoid! read more

I once loved this pharmacy. I drove from another town and came into the store because I loved the customer service. This is no longer the case! They refuse to take updated insurance over the phone. They refuse to take correct insurance information from one family member to all. Generally way overpriced. Would much rather go to Target, but CVS is closer. If you're good about dropping by regularly, there are definitely some really nice deals (box of cereal for $1.77!) Just drove there to get a Moderna covid vaccination for which I had made an appointment just two days prior. Upon arrival, I was told that they were out of the vaccine, and all I got for the inconvenience was a curt little "sorry." I would think that because they had my email address, they could have informed me of the situation, thereby saving me a trip over there. With the plastic COVID barrier, her mask, and her soft voice, the pharmacist quickly lost his temper, culminating in him yelling "I don't have time for this!" This pharmacist could have handled this is so many other professional ways. We do not need this pharmacist in my community any longer. Please discipline and transfer this pharmacist. I came in not long before closing time to get photos for a Chinese visa application. CVS photo ace Kathryn did a great job in taking the photos and steering me toward free coupons that lowered the price to a mere $8.24, including tax. Stay far away from this Pharmacy. There's an Asian lady by the name of Joyce who was so rude I am floored she's even allowed to work there. I forgot my medical information and she had the nerve to tell me "it's your job to bring it in." Really? Are you f'ing kidding me? (I don't care if it's pointless to write a review on CVS.) This CVS seems smaller than average. The layout is a little odd, as the health and personal care items are located in the far left corner of the store. It feels cramped. Make-up can be poorly stocked, especially when CVS is having sales. There is no real line area, so just stand and wait in front of the cash registers. If you have coupons of any sort (be it manufacturer's or ExtraBucks), skip the self-checkout and wait in line for a cashier. The self-checkout machines sometimes have trouble reading coupons and you CAN NOT input your phone number if you don't have your CVS card! (One major negative are the homeless men who wait outside the doors like we are prey. The unsolicited comments, though polite, does become annoying. This has no effect on my rating since CVS is not at fault.) read more

This CVS location is a bit below average but is always super crowded due to its prime location and monopoly on downtown Evanston convenience stores. It's highlight is its location and the fact that in a pinch it has what you are looking for but other than that I would prefer to go elsewhere if I need something. The prices here are pretty high - I usually find that full prices cosmetic or household items are $2-$3 more than at Target or on Amazon. Even the grocery items are typically cheaper at Jewel Osco. The selection is often picked over too so if you're super brand loyal it might be tough to get everything you want. Lines to checkout are usually pretty long - self checkout is definitely faster but it can be a several minute wait to checkout. Service is ok - some sales people are good and others seem completely disinterested in helping. read more

The only reason I give 2 stars is that I've had pleasant experiences here in the past, but the past couple months have not been good at all. Last month I recieved a text my prescription was ready for pickup. I headed over from Rogers park but when I got there they said they didn't have anything. Finally they looked it up in the system and my pills were on back order. They told me to call my doctor and get permission to recieve two pills that would equal the dose of the 1 I normally take. I was frustrated cause I had to leave empty handed and come back the next day. Which all could have been avoided if they called me and told me it was on back order and to call my doctor. Two days ago I went to pick up my persciption and the dose they had ready was a lower dose than what I'm supposed to be taking. I explained that to them that the dose has always been 125mg. The pharmacist treated me as if I was lying to get high. This is medicine for my thyroid condition not pain killers!!!!! They told me they needed permission from my doctor and the girl just started ignoring me. I finally asked if she could call the office and she said no I'm busy and then proceeded to ignore me. So I stood in front of her calling the office myself. Finally they recieved the order and another pharmacist told me to have a seat and it would be ready in 15 minutes. As I'm waiting the first pharmacist is complaining to the other one that this day is so awful and people are so rude and she is starving and that she would buy them all lunch for putting up with the rude customers. Finally they called my name and at this point I just want to pay leave and never come back. I was so mad I couldn't make eye contact with her. She begins telling me in a really nasty tone how this was never their fault saying it's all the drug company. I just said I have not had anything to eat cause I've been waiting to take my medicine and she says SAME HERE.. A simple apology would be nice or even saying nothing at all. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had and because of it I'll be going to target or Walgreens from now on. read more

If you are looking for a chain pharmacy which carries nothing you can't get anywhere else...this could be your place. If you want pharmacy staff that are smug, ignorant, arrogant and just plain truculent.....this CVS could be a special destination. If you would like to deal with pharmacists that should be stripped of their licenses for professional incompetence, the audacity to question the medical diagnosis of an attending specialist clinician and Northwestern Memorial, then BINGO this is the place. If you are a physician with a secret desire to have your prescribing instructions modified and your patient truly put at risk of serious medical harm, this is the place to send them. I have gone so far as to file a formal complaint involving the specific pharmacist with the Illinois Dept. of Professional Regulation.......apparently in the view of CVS....the hypocratic oath about "doing no harm" doesn't apply to this pharmacy. Why try to kill you with kindness when incompetence is OH SO MORE EFFECTIVE. read more

A very average (and overpriced) CVS with below average service. I often see people who work there just standing around, but have had a decent experience talking with the pharmacists. Can't beat the location though. Make sure you say hello to one of the "spare some change?" folks parked outside, who by the way, will ask you both on the way in AND on the way out. This CVS just off the Northwestern Campus caters to the student population. Which is annoying if you are not a student. It has the most random things - salads and sandwiches to go - no thanks. Part grocery store, part convenience store, part pharmacy - but never seems to have exactly what I am looking for. The lines are always very long and very slow. I work in Evanston and prefer to go to Walgreens by my place in the city instead. read more

I've been frustrated with all CVS stores the last few years, and the last straw happened at this one. For a few years the stores have been unstocked. What good is lower prices when the things I need aren't there? I complained a few times and at one point a manager called and spent my time making excuses, but nothing changed. Sometimes CVS associates have told me there aren't enough staff people there to keep the shelves stocked. Over the last year I've bought even less at CVS because they began putting calcium in the benadryl, which upsets my stomach, so I can't take it anymore. Between the low stock and toxic additives in the meds, there are few items there I can use. I've been going to the Sherman Ave. store on Tuesdays on my way to an appointment to pick up the two or three things I they still have that I can use, and occasionally bend the ears of the staff about the stocking problems. I don't use automated cashiers. They replace people who need jobs, *and* they're incredibly annoying! Until today the staff was good about having a human take my payment. Today at 10 minutes to my appointment time I took two boxes of tissue and a bottle of mouthwash to the front and waited for a cashier. There was one on duty - there are usually at least two. The one on duty was helping a woman buying a cartful of items. Normally someone else would come and help me, but not today. Someone did come, but she ignored me and helped customers with the automated cashiers. Then someone asked her a question and she went behind the cash register to help him, even though I was next. I said "I was next" and she still wouldn't help me. At four minutes to my appointment time I couldn't wait any longer. I left, and I will never shop at CVS again. I wonder if she did that on purpose to make me stop going there because I've been complaining. If so, it worked! I'm never shopping at CVS again. The thing that bothers me most is, when CVS goes out of business and (wrongly) blames the economy, it won't be the executives who short-staffed the stores who suffer. It will be the associates, pharmacists and customers. :( read more

I cannot believe the racism and unprofessional nature of people that they have In managerial positions. The manager today was judgmental, lacked ability to actually manage and de escalate a situation, rather HE only further created a more hostile environment for bystanders and customers like myself. I was so shocked that this lady in the store was treated the way she was -- she was asked to leave after another customer was rude and threatening towards her!!! Unacceptable!!! The manager assumed that the black woman was creating issues in the store when in fact it was the other white lady who was rude, loud, threatening, and racist -- how quickly do people assume!!! I will definitely be sharing my experience with CVS corporate because today's time in the store made me frustrated and I felt so bad for the other black lady who was singled out like she was the cause!!! Do not go into this CVS if you can help it!! Both regular and self serve registers were down. Cashier trying to sell a membership to an elderly lady even though she was the only one at register and waiting lines were long. Another employee finally came over to open another register. Had an exchange and they wouldn't provide stating they didn't have that type of product there. I told them they did and they asked if someone could go look for same or similar product. I didn't want to continue to keep the one line moving so just took my defective product back home with me so as not to keep in line much longer. Horrible service. read more

This is a small CVS that most NU students rely on for their pharmacy, grocery, and miscellaneous needs. They treat it as their super market because the nearest one, Jewel Osco, is about 1.5 miles south - a little too far for walking and carrying a bunch of bags. They've just updated their photo station where you can print photos directly from your iPhone, Android, Facebook, or memory device. As of May 2013, they NO LONGER develop 35mm film - you must go to the CVS on Central and Crawford to do that. Prices are average, lines are slow. I'd say about 8/10 times you'd see beggars outside this store. read more

I'll come here when I need some things and they have a sale, but generally I go to Target. I prefer to shop someplace where they don't have homeless people congregating waiting for you to give them some change it's creepy when you see the ones who need dental care and dirty clothes you're afraid thinking they're mentally ill.
