This store is dishonest. Went to buy a bottle of water this morning. Whole rack of small size Fiji waters stocked in row in refrigerated display rack. Price tag says 1.79. I go to pay. Register rings up at 2.29. I show them tag. They say no, then the clerk removes the shelf tag in front of me, leaves no price tag of any kind he can point to and says price is now 2.29. I ask for honoring listed price. He says no. Avoid this location. They do bait and switch with prices. I'm not the only one to experience their dishonesty with prices. I like this 7-11. They have a decent selection of items and the interior is clean. Staff is friendly (enough), and they have pretty good deals if you look carefully (a good sale on Hot Cheetos = I literally had 6 decently sized bags in a week). If I'm not mistaken, I believe this location is open 24/7, which has been a lifesaver when I forget to pack lunch the night before (usually I go to whole foods, but it's not open before 7AM). read more

I was physically assaulted by an employee there. He hit me and told me to get out of HIS store as if he owned it. I was using the atm at the time. If I were you I wouldn't shop there! I stop in here multiple times a week on my way to work and the guys who work in the morning are great. Stopped in tonight and to grab a sandwich and a lighter, the guy behind the counter scans the sandwich and goes right back to texting! I'm standing there for almost a full minute holding the lighter, and he's just texting away!!! I told him to have a good night and enjoy his phone. That was ridiculous! For the management, I didn't catch this guys name, but the date is 6/26/17 and the visit was at approximately 9:55pm. I will continue my morning visits, but this guy needs to get his life together. read more

First off the cashier paid absolutely no attention to what he was doing when ringing my transaction. He was too busy on his cellphone. There's a name Maestro on my receipt but if that's incorrect it's the dumb kid who was working at 5:27pm tonight. If you're going to be handling cash and opening a register, you need to be paying attention to your customers so you don't become a target. Safety I'm sure is important to this brand and it should be of concern to the owners when they have employees displaying this type of behavior while on the clock. What a millennial. read more

I moved back to Evanston about 2 weeks ago, after being gone for 5 years, so that I can finish studying for the Illinois bar exam at the end of July. I came in at about 2:00am this morning (I'm studying for the bar and my sleep schedule is really screwed up) for the usual sort of things: Rockstar, Sour Patch Kids, and something salty. Usually I've been going with Doritos or something, but the nachos with FREE CHILI AND CHEESE caught my eye. PERFECT. The little condiment station was short on salsa, but there were plenty of jalapenos so I forged ahead. Usual ritual: open the bag of tortilla chips, dump into the plastic tray, apply heatwed "cheese" sauce from dispenser, apply jalapenos and salsa (then pay, walk home, and consume the physical embodiment of my misery that is a 2am convenience store "dinner"). The lone attendant was behind the counter doing things, and I noticed that he came over and looked at me while I was fishing some jalapenos out of the brine they were floating in, but thought nothing of it. I go to check out and the guy rings in the nachos bag UPC--$2.99, as advertised on the shelf--my energy drinks and Sour Patch, and then sneaks in a $1.00 "GROC TAX F" charge that he had to manually enter. Um, what? "What is the extra dollar for?" "The chees! For chees!" *gestures sternly at my nacho tray* "The dispenser clearly says 'FREE CHILI AND CHEESE.'" "Only a little! You did too much!" At this point, I realize he had been cheese and topping Nazi-ing me moments earlier. It also occurs to me that the non-ketchup, non-mustard hot dog condiments (mayo packets, salt and pepper packets) were also squirreled away behind the chili/cheese dispenser. These guys are playing the cheapass game! "Are you serious? There is another 7Eleven on Emerson and I am happy to take my business there." "Too much chees!" "Then you should take down the FREE CHEESE SIGN. You've lost my business; I will walk the extra block to Emerson from now on." "Fifty cent! That OK?" "Listen, I'm not going to negotiate with you over nacho cheese at 2am. You will never see me in here again." Seriously. It's not like I'm some stupid stoned teenager or some freaking bum who is trying to get a pound of nacho cheese and pay for it with a handful of change. The location on Emerson (by Philly's Best) may be in a somewhat older retail space, but they have just as good a selection of products AND don't do this nickel and dime shit. One of the Emerson guys even remembered me and my name after I'd been living away from Evanston for basically five years! I won't bother with the Davis location again. And yes, I realize it's more than a bit petty to post a bad review over some late night nacho cheese cheapassery, but seriously. Either this guy made a snap judgment about my cheese consumption and sua sponte decided to tack on a surcharge, or--more ridiculously--there has been some sort of staff meeting or memo about counting the number of seconds that a customer is pushing the cheese button. It strains credulity. I have pictures of the sign, the receipt, and my "overcheesed" nacho plate (which, for the record, ended up with totally dry chips on the bottom). read more

The only reason i don't give this store one star is the employees during the daytime are great, however if you need something at 330 am don't even bother going to the store as the worker on wedsday morning at 330 am has a sign on the door saying 711 is closed with no information when its going to be open again , i looked in to see he's on his cell phone texting , so i call 711 and he says were closed now i ask when they will be open he repeats again were closed now , had to ask same question twice then he says 430 am a full hour away from when i arrived making my 4 block walk pointless , their is absolutely no reason this guy at night should keep his job i give this location a lot of biz maybe ill just change locations . if your going to play hookie at work don't claim to be open 24 hours when you're clearly not . I never mind waltzing into this 7-eleven. Not to be confused with the location at 817 Emerson, this 7-eleven is in a busier section of downtown Evanston and fairly close to the Davis purple line stop. I'm surprised that this is the first addition of the business, as I'm always seeing people coming in and out. Those who work here are more on the relaxed side, but friendly when you need assistance. I'm glad that there's a little store to run to when I don't feel like walking all the way over to CVS. Some of the snacks in the aisles could be less pricey, but you'd be surprised by what you can get here for a much better deal than what you end up paying for at Whole Paycheck. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! I walk in today looking for a drink and soup. Something quick to eat. Later I walked around looking for a fork but couldn't find one. Then the employee gives me an attitude and says "sir what do you need" I'm like I'm looking for a fork do you have some. He starts arguing with me about why I'm walking were he mopped? We start going at it I tell him wtf you want me to do fly around the fucking store. I obviously got to walk through there. He starts cursing back saying but why the fuck through there I just mopped. I told look I don't get fucking mad when a customer comes to my job and walks around where I just mopped so why should you. It's a fucking store obviously people will walk wherever they want to find what they need. And as I'm about to walk out he tries to give me a fork.
