My wife and I had had a great experience at the Pit Room previously, so brought the rest of my family here to experience. I found the food to continue to be really good, especially the fatty brisket. Stopped by around 11 am, and there was still parking in the dedicated surface lot next to the building. The smell of bbq wasn't as prevalent as last time. Once walking in, you stand in line to first order your meat...which is immediately sliced in front of you. You then move further along to ask for your sides, including as many slices of plain white bread as you want. My daughter treated us this time, so didn't record prices, but thought it was reasonable. I liked the sliced brisket a lot, along with the side of elote corn and mac n cheese. The free toppings bar had the various pickled vegetables that really cut through the fattiness of the meat. Drinks were all self serve, with a water station and soda fountain. Probably ordered a bit less than expected for 4 people, but was happy that there were no left overs, and left not completely stuffed, since we had a long day ahead of us. By the time we left a little after noon, there was both a wait for tables and parking. We had come at the right time.

Got the one meat lunch platter which came with two sides. I chose the brisket, mac n cheese, and cole slaw. The meat was so tender and juicy, and the bbq sauce was one of the best I've had. The sides were just ok, and I wouldn't recommend the mac n cheese (too meh). I liked the pickle station they had. Counter service with tables both inside and outside. All the employees were quick but friendly.

It is at the back corner of the now defunct Railway Marketplace shopping center. If the front door is locked, you showed up too early. It has a speakeasy vibe and eventually opens up to a replica of your typical 1990s video rental store. You get a membership card and access to checkout/order 1 cocktail person. You choose your movie/drink from the various options on the shelves. Take those to the bartender. Drinks are all themed. (The happy Gilmore has a giant golf ball ice cube). They have premium drinks and an open bar if you want to pay for any others. Several food options too. So many areas to take fun photos. You'll have 90 minutes to hangout. We went on opening day so it was a little dead but hopefully this review spreads the word! Go return some video tapes and take a trip down memory lane!

Quick note: Bare in mind when reading this, this was a Friday from 8:30pm - 10pm (this was our time…read moreslot). TLDR; 40+ minute wait times for drinks on a non busy night, hot temperatures, and overall fell short. We had high hopes for this place after seeing it on Instagram for a new local place. A new and retro "speakeasy" at that. Going into the place, cool! Love the vibe. After getting into the place, it was cool, eclectic, and a throw back. A multitude of tables, ambiance, a few games, and a few photo opportunity places. That's where it really ended. 1. The place wasn't even that busy, but it was hot. There was obvious A/C in the building, but wasn't running. They had the occasional fan which was meant to cool down the whole place, but it wasn't cutting it. 2. Our "free" drink with the purchase of the ticket. Maybe 30 people were there, like 15 people ordered ahead of us in line, and it took a whopping 40 WHOLE MINUTES to get our drinks. 40 minutes of our 90 minute slot. Think about if this place was actually busy. You probably would be waiting an hour to hour and a half for your drink. The main issue is there's only one bartender (sometimes aid of a second just to shake the drinks) serving everyone. Nothing against him, he was going from one to the next and was great, but they needed more to cover even the crowd there. For the actual drinks, they were subpar at best. We got the Toy Story, MIB, and Indiana Jones. All three of them either had no taste what so ever, or just tasted so strong mixer wise that you could hardly stomach it. As for prices, we didn't stay around for a second drink and there were no prices listed, but I would expect $12+ drinks minimum. 3. The overall experience. We can see what they were trying to do, and the Houston Bucket List video really hyped it up, but this just fell short overall big time. We left after our first drink, 45 minutes into our 90 minute time slot because there really wasn't anything to do, nor were we willing to wait another 40+ minutes for another drink. They don't card at the door, or at the bar, which is a VERY strange take seeing as anyone can just buy the ticket to get in. And with the temperature, in the evening, as hot as it was in there, this was just not the vibe. We had really high hopes for this place, but most definitely won't be going back.

Chef Bham (previously from Alinea, amongst a few other baller restaurants) is a literal genius. The menu was a really thoughtful ode to various Filipino dishes with a little twist on each. You get the comforting tapsilog and taho that you might have grown up with alongside interesting flavors and ideas. Pandesal made into a tart crust, kinilaw made with daikon and beef...they also are very good at keeping in mind dietary restrictions: I was the annoying halal option, but, man did my experience rock. Pork belly replaced with enoki mushrooms or octopus, and the dish was still amazing. My sister was unfortunately gluten free, but still able to enjoy every bite. Because of the location, you get the experience of sitting with the chef and his team and that alongside them in almost in the kitchen. It's very cozy and different, and you learn a lot about each dish because of it (and his amazing team). I love Musaafer, but this may have become my new favorite high end place.

They allow byob and there's also a wine tasting as well. The 5 courses menu was thoughtfully crafted, with each dish rooted in heritage and memory. Highlights included the fried octopus with eggplant, it was a bit hard to hear what exactly the sauce he made was--but it was amazing. Also the fried rice with Wagyu, quail egg and topped with caviar was fantastic. Great texture and presentation. Service was impeccable. Chef Bham and the staff were deeply knowledgeable and genuinely passionate. Every glass was topped off before we even noticed. You could tell they weren't just serving food but also they were part of the storytelling. This experience deserves every bit of praise. If you're looking for something beyond the usual dining. Truly unforgettable. I'll be talking about this night for a long time.

The best black sesame latte in Houston…read more I'm always looking for black sesame flavored drinks ever since I tried it in Seattle, so I was excited that TwoTone had it. The nuttiness of the sesame goes SOOO well with the espresso taste and it's a good creaminess too. I also like the texture of the bits of sesame seeds in the drink. The aesthetic of the cafe is modern with street-style flairs, it's a really cool space. I also love that there are Filipino flavors on the menu like ube and pandan. Most workers are super nice and say your name like they know you. They're also super attentive to ensure that everything with your order is perfect. Jonah was very welcoming and helpful, making sure we got a menu while in line! The weekdays seem to be better for wait-time, with little to no wait. The weekends however are packed and usually have lines. If you're not a line person, I would definitely come on a weekday. TwoTone is probably the best specialty coffee you can get in Houston, especially in terms of Asian flavors and creaminess. If it was closer to inner Houston, I would probably come here everyday.

You can tell they care about quality, and I absolutely understand why this place stays busy. That being said, the wait time was very long. I waited about 30 minutes from the time I ordered to actually receiving my coffee, and this was on a Wednesday around 10 a.m. I'm not sure if that's their normal flow, but it was packed. Thankfully I didn't have anywhere to be, because if you're stopping in before work or during a tight schedule, definitely plan ahead and expect a wait. The only real downside for me was the timing and ordering process. Spending close to $10 on one coffee plus waiting that long makes this feel more like an occasional treat rather than an everyday coffee run. I'll admit I may have been a little cranky from the wait, but I do think it's fair feedback. Overall though, my coffee was delicious, and because of that, I would absolutely give them another chance. Good things take time, I guess.
