Unfortunately, they were completely sold out of the gluten free treats she was hoping to try but the gentleman working the stand told us they had a physical location not too far away that would probably have everything she was looking for. We went there straight away and WOWWWWW I'm so glad we did. This place is amazing!! They have such a great selection of baked goods, breads, pastries, biscuits, and other treats with so many gluten free options. I loved the vibe of the bakery and it smelled SO good the second we walked in. My cousin ended up getting gluten free biscuits, gluten free sourdough and another gluten-free pastry that I can't remember the name of. I'm not gf and I'm usually the first person to hate on gf food because I never think it tastes as good as the real thing but this place completely changed my mind. Everything we tried was amazing, but the biscuits were INSANE. Like... I would happily choose those biscuits over regular biscuits. We only picked up a few things this first time but while we were there we kept seeing plates of food come out and everything looked incredible. We're already planning to go back and actually eat there next time. I'm genuinely blown away!!! And I think it's safe to say my cousin has officially found her new favorite spot.

Octopus tends to be quite chewy, but I think they cooked it perfectly. Our server was prompt in checking in on us, refilling our drinks, and clearing used dishes/utensils which I really appreciated. Apologies for the quality of photos, we dug in before I remembered to snap a photo.

We went around 6 p.m. on a weekday, and they had a steady flow of business. It's a small restaurant with a small parking lot, but they do have an additional lot across the street. We were greeted right away and seated immediately. Our waiter was also tending the bar. He was incredibly friendly and working hard, but because he seemed to be juggling so much on his own, service was on the slower side. For the appetizer, we ordered the Crispy Fried Oysters & Brussels, and I got the redfish for my entrée. The Brussels sprouts were flash-fried perfectly, and I loved the sweetness of the chili honey glaze. The oysters had a nice crispy coating, but I found them to be a little bland. The redfish, though, was absolutely the star of the meal. I cleaned my plate. It was served with Hoppin' John and a lemon butter sauce. I had never heard of Hoppin' John before, but it's essentially a Southern rice-and-bean dish, and paired with that lemon butter, it was so flavorful. It complemented the fish perfectly.

Cochinita & Co caught my attention because of owner and chef Victoria Elizondo who was a James Beard semifinalist, Culture Map chef of the year and her restaurant was ranked as one of the top 100 in Houston. The restaurant is located near EaDo and is easy to find. It's in a small strip of businesses so parking can be tight when it's busy. We came with about 30 minutes left for breakfast before they rolled out their lunch menu. There was a few tables of people enjoying their breakfast, but the place got really busy about an hour into lunch. Customer service was great. I needed help making some ordering decisions and the staff steered me in the right direction. I specifically came for breakfast. I started off with an iced Horchata Latte. This drink was excellent. You got all the flavors of a traditional horchata with the cinnamon while still having the coffee flavor present. It was a very well balanced drink. For my entree I went with their popular chilaquiles. They said this is their number one seller for breakfast and I could totally see why. I went with the red chile salsa for the spicy version, but you can also get it with a salsa verde. It comes with black beans, fried egg (you can request a different cook if you desire), crema, queso fresco and green onions. You can add a protein for an additional charge. I added chorizo to mine. Chilaquiles is not something I ever order but I had to try it here. I am so glad I went out of my comfort zone because this dish was amazing. Now I've had bites here and there of chilaquiles but was never blown away, hence me not ordering it. The chips were coated throughout and kept it's crunch through the whole meal. All the components of the dish worked in perfect harmony. I liked mine with the chorizo addition. The egg was nice and runny and I would consider adding another egg next time. It was a generous portion and a heavy meal, but I powered through the whole thing because it was so good. They had a nice display of baked goods and I could not pass up the pretty cinnamon roll. I got the last one and it looked very promising. It ended up being just ok. They served it room temp so it ate very dry. It would have been good if it was heated up and gooey. We ended up wasting most of it. Overall, this visit was long overdue but worth the wait. I'm still thinking about the chilaquiles a week later. I will most definitely be back to check out more of their menu.

I was quoted about a 15-minute wait, which is about as much patience as I have for a restaurant waitlist. While waiting, I started chatting with another woman, Audrey, who was also dining solo and visiting for the first time. Her table became available before mine, and she invited me to join her. Y'all, we ended up having the best time! You would've thought we'd been girlfriends for years. We both had burgers + fries, and tried a few cocktails. The espresso martini was good, the popular Bellini was a miss for both of us, and the lemon drop was much more our speed. Overall, the food was great! The atmosphere was lively, a little too lively for my personal preference. I enjoy a good scene, but crowded waiting areas and overstimulating spaces aren't really my thing. I'd definitely choose a quieter Monday or Tuesday next time. Our waitress Ebony was absolutely gorgeous, and a doll! But here's the sweetest part. When it was time to leave, I asked for separate checks. Audrey got up, presumably to use the restroom, and unbeknownst to me, paid for my meal too. Such an unexpected and thoughtful gesture from someone I'd literally just met. What started as a random Friday trying a TikTok-famous restaurant turned into great food, wonderful conversation, and a beautiful reminder that kindness still exists. Sometimes the best part of a dining experience isn't even on the menu.

You have to find some nearby street parking and walk over. I had a perm bracelet from another place that needed to be shortened. I sent an email inquiry to ask if they provide this service before going there (I've gone to another place where they refused to work on anything that wasn't purchased from them so I wanted to be sure before heading out of my way). The email reply confirmed that they do provide this and that it would be $15. I made an appointment online and selected what I needed done. The website showed that it would only be $10 for a single loop and that it required pre-payment. So I paid and headed to my appointment. When I arrived, I told them I was here to have my bracelet shortened and the lady working there told me it would cost $25. I explained that I made an appt and pre-paid it already. She replied that it was just the deposit, not the total cost of the service. It was not clear during the booking that it was a deposit only but fine (maybe it would have been obvious if I had selected something way more expensive and being charged $10 instead). This was fine since the deposit gets applied at the end anyway. I also explained that I have an email reply saying it would cost $15 so I don't know where the $25 came from. She hesitantly agreed that she would only charge me $15 instead. I paid for the $5 difference at the end of the appointment. The inconsistency in the pricing (with additional confusion on appt deposit) is frustrating. I like having a clear idea of what I'm paying without any surprises. The work itself was fine. She clipped off my bracelet, took the old loop off, clipped off the extra length and zapped a new loop on. I'm happy with the end result.

Chef Bham (previously from Alinea, amongst a few other baller restaurants) is a literal genius. The menu was a really thoughtful ode to various Filipino dishes with a little twist on each. Pandesal made into a tart crust, kinilaw made with daikon and beef...they also are very good at keeping in mind dietary restrictions: I was the annoying halal option, but, man did my experience rock.
