So let me give you this scenario. You're a nursing student who just spent an entire week studying for an exam and you have to go get your flu shot off of probably one of the worst construction zones in San Antonio right now. You decided not to eat this morning because of being too anxious for your test. Finally you complete the test and head to your local (40 minutes away ) CVS for a vaccine. Your tummy starts to rumble and you are really craving just about anything. Yup you guessed it. You're me. To my luck I decided to check my maps for restaurants within walking distance because bandera / Helotes is absolutely a nightmare. This road makes your 5 minute trip to grab milk a full marathon. Anyways. I check my map and notice this restaurant named "6 Klicks Cafe" within walking distance. So I think "you know what?" Imma try it out!" I am beyond grateful for coming across this place because man oh man. I wouldn't be writing this review it it wasn't worth it. I was greeted by a friendly waitress who assisted me to my table. The staff was very quick and attentive and the overall restaurant was clean and crispy! The ambience was definitely welcoming. I also noticed that this venue supported our military so that's an extra plus as well! Now lets get into the food. MAN when I tell you these items are the biggest bang for your buck I mean it. The Cajun cheese sticks were filled with a beyond generous amount. All those pounds I decided to burn off came rushing back into my body. No I don't regret it. It's hard to breathe yes but this cheese pull made it worth it. Next I ordered their Chipotle Cheese Triple burger ( yes I botched the name so what? ) . I couldn't believe my eyes when I say this burger. I genuinely thought they had a baby cow on the plate still because this thing was MASSIVE! Oh ya and I had some onion rings also , these were crispy and tasty. The burger was saved for last. I took my first bite and I could barely even accomplish that. This thing was so big I almost unhinged my jaw just to successfully take a bite. This burger was packed with flavor and I could just tell this was made fresh unlike those other guys down the road who quote " eat fresh" . Overall my experience was definitely one I'll recommend to my friends and family. Home cooking at it's best! They currently don't have a sign up, but it is located to the left of Ellas barber shop in Helotes. The food was very delicious. We had the Cajun pasta which was spot on! Just the right spices and the chicken and grilled shrimp were cooked to perfection. This restaurant is Veteran owned and operated. The customer service was spot on and made us feel welcomed the moment we walked in. I love the table that is dedicated to our fallen heroes! We will definitely be back. We've eaten here several times over the past year. The food is really good and has been consistent every time. I've read some bad reviews and wondered, huh, what restaurant did they go to? I've recommend this place to others and taken my parents there. Coming from another state and previously another country, I'm not super impressed with most of the local places the locals rave about and this is the only one I've recommended. This restaurant started very good. Then, the owner retired or whatever. After that, it's gone so far downhill that I'll never be back. No one that works there cares about anything. Service is complete garbage as is the food. When it first opened, the food was hot and fresh and properly made. The service could have been a little brighter back then but the food was decent. Now, it can take about an hour to receive your cold, wrong food. I have been here more than once and ever since the main lady retired, everything is different. Come back, lady. The restaurant needs you badly. The burgers are now an inedible mess. Before, the Hangover burger was just what you'd want. It could not be worse now. So dry and disgusting. I remember my first trip there, I had a nice steak. Any steak now will have zero flavor, will be extremely overcooked, and will not even have the compound butter it's supposed to have. Everything is just bad. The daughter in charge now simply does not care. It's very sad. It's not a new restaurant anymore and you can't hide behind the veteran theme if the food and service suck this hard. Fire everyone and start from scratch before its too late. We've been a few times and the twice this week. Twice at the restaurant and one to go. Wait staff was courteous and the women who took our order over the phone also so pleasant and accommodating. Between the few visits my daughter and I had a wrap (had to save half so big and filling and it held up for lunch the next day). A huge Caesar salad, sriracha noodles (like low mein noodle ) and kids sliders. All delicious!! We even tried some specialty cupcakes they had that day Lemon coconut. The icy was fantastic. 6 Klicks Café came up on my radar when they won the Blue Plate award on the news. This is a locally owned, Veteran owned business and I am always happy to support a fellow Veteran. I ordered the Chicken Diablo bites, chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans, and a side order of grilled asparagus. The chicken Diablo bites were tasty, with just a little bite from the jalapeño with the chicken and bacon. The house made dipping sauce made it all come together. The chicken fred steak was tender and fresh breaded-no frozen pre-breaded steak here. The steak with the house made gravy was perfect, and a large portion. The mashed potatoes were creamy and I added a little of the steaks gravy to them. The green beans were seasoned with fresh cooked onions and bacon pieces, just like grandmas! The grilled asparagus was nicely done and with just enough crisp, not soggy. The food was tasty, the portions were good and the friendly and attentive owners and staff were outstanding. If you are in the Helotes area, it is the place to go. Hidden in a strip center on Bandera Rd., it's worth the drive. read more
