I was disappointed with the lack of flavor and very little cheese.My husband's order did not include any toast. We paid almost 30 dollars for a very disappointing meal.We didn't even order drinks .We drank water. They also took over 20 minutes to serve us our meal. Searched up hot and new and Tito's Mexican's snacks popped up beside 6 Klicks. So we thought to go to 6Klicks to eat and then Tito's for dessert. I was so stuffed after 6 Klicks though that I barely had room for a Paleta Loco at Tito's. The food here is much better than the plating suggests. The waitress was super involved. We asked about dishes and opinions and she was definitely a fan of the chicken fried steak. That's what I ended up ordering vs. the BLT which also looks very good. My friends got the patty melt and the club. The chicken fried steak came with mashed potatoes and green beans. The potatoes had minimal lumps and had a yellow tinge. This was a great sign since it indicates that they are fresh made and probably from Yukon gold potatoes. A excellent buttery choice for mashed potatoes! The green beans had almost 1/3rd of it's volume in onions, seasoning, and bacon!!! Both sides were winners along with the chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak was crispy, not greasy and had a thick layer of gravy on top. Well seasoned and the breading was seasoned throughout. The breading was perfect just a thin crust that didn't build up thick on the edges. Great meal all around from the service to the food. If I had to pick at something it would be that the plating was very homey. No garnish, no frills... it comes out in the photos and does make you wonder if you should go. Just go... the food is yummy and well executed. Remind yourself that there's probably a military chef in the kitchen who still plates for the field, but cooks for their family now that they're back. Came in for a bite to eat with my wife and we were very satisfied! The food was wonderful and we didn't leave hungry. Awesome Helotes neighborhood cafe! Had seen this on local TV and had to give it a try. Boy am I glad we did! Hubs is a catfish fan. Two nice-sized fillets and really good fries. Good sized. Crisp on outside and tender inside. Granny had the primavera pasta. Nice al dente penne with beautifully seasoned grilled chicken and sautéed veggies in a GREAT butter garlic sauce. Came with nice sized side salad of mixed greens, cucumbers and grape tomatoes and garlic bread. I had their chicken fried steak. OMG. One of the best I've had. Seasoned great, Breading was crisp and STAYED ON the steak. Such a good portion that it was served on its own oval plate. The mashed potatoes were luscious--REAL potatoes seasoned perfectly. The cream gravy was perfection in my mind. Beautiful consistency, seasoned with the right amount of salt and quite peppery, which I love. As a bonus, they served a lot of gravy on CFS and potatoes.. No having to order extra like most places. The green beans were fresh, cooked al dente and sautéed in butter and herbs. Potatoes and green beans were together on their own plate and great portions. I ended up bringing half the potatoes and CFS home to enjoy for tmrw. Oh...and as an appetizer we had their handmade onion rings. Super!! They were perfectly round (not the piles of mushy fall apart ones you sometimes encounter). Overall I wud seriously recommend it. When we arrived there was only one other party in the restaurant so we were not sure what to expect. We were greeted by one of the employees and told to pick a table and they would be right over with a menu. Our server was very prompt and made suggestions. I ordered the blackened mahi- mahi fish tacos, my husband and friend ordered the fiesta chicken wrap. The fish tacos were outstanding and the fish portion on each taco was very generous! The tacos came with a side and I had roasted asparagus which were cooked to perfection! The fiesta wrap was stuffed full with grilled chicken, black beans, corn, lettuce, tomato and sauce and came with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were out of this world. This was my first visit to this restaurant and I was highly impressed. I ordered the mushroom burger with tots. visually this burger looked good and it certainly didn't disappoint. The meat was seasoned well, the mushrooms were seasoned and cooked to perfection. The sweet sourdough bun was a soft and delicious complement. Due to this generous portion , I took half of the burger home. I was pleasantly surprised how good it tasted reheated. And I'm obsessed with the Southern Crunchy Wrap. The owners are amazing as I've met them once. They mentioned that they're looking to expand the cafe and add some more things to the menu and redo the interior design. They were honest about when the slow days are slow but when weekends come, it's great. They have a table and a chair up for those who gave their lives and it is up every single day. I've been eating here every week since I discovered 6klicks back in October. Usually I order the 12 oz. Sirloin. It's always perfectly cooked the way I want it. The onion rings are so good. A true "hole in the wall"! You have to look closely to find it behind the Dairy Queen on Bandera Rd/Hwy 16 in Helotes. I read the reviews and it sounded impressive. Not much going on when you walk in, it's still in need of ambiance and decor. The menu has some standard items as well as a few fun surprises if you're feeling adventurous. Daughter had chicken wrap which was really good. I tried chicken fried steak which was perfect. Hot and crispy without breading falling off throughout every bite until it was gone! Good mashed taters and green beans too. Burgers at tables nearby looked huge and delicious. We left full and with leftovers. Prices are kinda high, but the portions are not lacking. This place is so petty. How do you charge someone for extra pasta sauce and gravy. How about putting more on there to start. The food was bland and lacked flavor. The hamburger had a bun that was too big so the bun to meat ratio was off. Chicken fried steak was not that great. The nickel and dime type restaurants are not my style. Free advice cook great food and people will come and you will remain open. Heard about this place through online neighborhood posts. Location is a bit tricky to find because there's no sign up yet. They are behind the Dairy Queen on Bandera. Menu has a good variety of appetizers but we went straight for the burgers. The burgers were cooked perfect and definitely not frozen patties. Waitresses were attentive but they could use some more help. Overall I would recommend this place and will go back to try more of the choices on the menu. Great food! All handmade! We had the deep fried mushrooms and they are not frozen. They were awesome! Tried to get the stuffed mushrooms, but the fresh crab had not arrived. Went here with my mom for lunch a couple weeks because she had been raving about their BLT! I must say, it did not disappoint. I LOVE a good BLT with perfectly cooked bacon (not too crisp but not underdone either), a dollop of Mayo, a slice of tomato, and a proportionate about of lettuce; this checked every block! We upgraded to the onion rings over fries, which was the right call. They are battered in house and fried to perfection, not too greasy and crispy. Another person in the party chose the French fries and they were just ok, always go for the onion rings. I did not try anything else from the menu but dad loves their chicken fried steak. Coffee came out after my meal and then had to still ask for creamer and sugar. Was done with my meal when sugar and cream came. Didn't even get a chance to drink coffee and enjoy with my meal. Similar experience but not that bad o previous trips. I've really tried to support them- but better off cooking at home. Approximately 20ish people to the one server.
