I'm torn on this one. I met the Columbus Food Culture and Fun group here for 61Pho's soft opening tonight. This space is quite tiny inside. Something like three or four booth tables. The patio area was fantastic, with the long, wide tables (great for groups)! I do think they could benefit even more if the grand opening wasn't tomorrow nite. I felt the staff was still somewhat discombobulated. Not to mention there were so many of them working behind the counter. I'm assuming they were mentally prepping, in case they got a large clientele, but the efficiency does still have room for improvement. We got here just in time, too. A long line began to form as soon as we sat down. That's definitely a plus for this joint - the more people, the more the word spreads, the more traffic they will get (ideally). On to the food. I shared their Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Bun bowl with chicken. The only other Bun I have to compare is Lan Viet (in the North Market), and 61Pho's was not up to par, in my opinion. With that said, I thought the salad tonite was decent. The sweet rice vinegar (?) dressing was slight, the perfect accent. I do wish the toppings were more - I loved all the veggies. The chicken was moist and had good flavor. The owner came out to check on our group. She was polite, pleasant. I think it's a double plus that she asked us for any suggestions/improvements. And she listened intently to our comments with a smile. I hope this establishment is able to iron out the kinks, and is successful! read more

6-1-Pho is featured on delivery services like Postmates and UberEATS so I've gotten delivery a few times in desperation for a pho fix. I've bumped them down to 2 stars after having it a few more times. The broth is not that flavorful. They really chintz on the toppings and it's totally not worth the elevated above-market price. Even their summer rolls lacked flavor. I really wanted to support this local spot but I just feel ripped off every time I eat food from here knowing spots in Columbus are cheaper and tastier! Previous review: When I first heard that Clintonville was getting a Pho joint, I was super jazzed! Then when it opened I saw all the fickle reviews roll in here on Yelp--and with how pricey the menu appeared, I stayed away and frequented my usual Pho faves. I'm a big fan of Skip the Dishes and I recently saw 6-1-Pho pop up as an option for delivery, and I was hankering for Vietnamese, so I figured I'd give them a chance. The broth came in a plastic tub with instructions for reheating and the rare beef and additions could then be added in. The pho was okay and appeased my craving, but honestly it was nothing special. Today I needed to go to the Whetstone Library so I stopped in to 6-1-Pho as I was in the mood for soup despite the beautiful, sunny early spring day. It's a really cool space. Reminds me of the new Fusian down the street. I ordered rare beef pho again but since the beef portion was scant when I had delivery, I asked for the option to double my protein for an extra $3.50. I also got a soda from the fountain. My tab was $16+ for my meal. It's just too pricey as compared to some of my fave pho spots in town, and it's just not that worth it. I'll probably get 6-1-Pho on Skip the Dishes again since they're the only Vietnamese that delivers, but if I'm out and about I'll drive the extra mile to my favorite Pho spot that is cheaper and tastier. read more

Sad face. :(. I ordered the chicken banh mi via GrubHub (I'm a big banh mi fan!) and it was extremely disappointing. The chicken banh mi on menu states: Soy marinated pulled chicken, chili paste, pickled carrots and daicon, cucumber, cilantro, and a swipe of mayonnaise. My chicken banh mi had: Chicken (yay correct!), the pate spread used on the pork banh mi, the veggie soy ham used on the vegetable banh mi, the sriracha mayonnaise used on the vegetable banh mi (unless all of their mayo is orange), and the worst of all: a large, unidentified item that I can only describe as a big piece of kamaboko - because that's exactly what it looked like and felt like. It was about 3"x3", bouncy, and white-ish with a pink border. My friends were being really dramatic and screaming just to give an idea of how horrifying it was. I wish I would have taken a picture of it before putting it down the garbage disposal. The only thing I did take a picture of was the veggie soy ham that I took out of the trash. I contacted GrubHub and explained the issue who then contacted the restaurant. The restaurant refunded me which was greatly appreciated! Then the restaurant called me and I felt very uncomfortable because I felt that the woman I spoke to (who may have been the owner because she said she wrote the menu) seemed defensive and rushed. I felt almost embarrassed to give her all of the details because she seemed irritated and like she was being forced to apologize. :( I won't go back. Bamboo in vases and jars on every table make it feel less like you're eating in a quick-serve atmosphere. Plenty of room and parking. Food: three pretty standard Vietnamese options (pho, com, and bun), with plenty of variety in proteins and toppings. Overall, food was solid, but not spectacular. Bottom line: great for a quick bite, but if I'm craving Vietnamese I'll stick with my other Columbus standards. read more

I didn't have high hopes at the start given that it seemed to be a trendy pop up but we gave it a try because they are one of the few places with vegetarian options. I was extremely surprised!!! I got the raw beef pho and it was fantastic!!! My daughter got the vegetarian pho with tofu. It had some sweet undertones she wasn't expecting but over all she enjoyed it. We will be back! read more

Great concept. Poorly executed. Arrived an hour before closing as indicated on the handwritten sign on the door. The employees were locking the door already and telling potential customers that they were already closed. Eventually, they changed their mind and reopened the doors. The concept is intended to be the Vietnamese version of Chipotle or Piada. Unfortunately, it took 45 minutes to get the food despite being 8th in line. My friend had Pho (Vietnamese Soup Bowl) with beef broth, beef slices, onions, bean sprouts, Thai Basil, cilantro, Jalapenos, and a slice of lime. My friend and me had Vietnamese Egg Rolls with Pork, Mushroom, Cabbage, Carrots, Taro and Onion that is deep fried with sides of fish sauce and sweet dipping sauce. I'm a chef and I've made TRADITIONAL pho many times. A friend wanted a quick dinner and we both hadn't been here. I have absolutely no idea what I ate. All I know, that isn't pho. The proteins were dried out like they had been reheated multiple times and cooked days prior. The broth tasted like it had some sort of chemical flavoring to it. I'm a big fan of this place- it's fast (think the Vietnamese version of chipotle), fresh, and affordable. The broth is flavorful and packs a punch while hitting the spot on a cold grey Ohio day. Honestly, I could chug the broth and be content. I usually get the tofu version but I was feeling the need for some extra protein and got the chicken this time. Just a quick update here. I AM NOW OBSESSED WITH THIS PLACE. If you read my first review from a few years ago, you will see that I gave them three stars and constructive criticism. Their vegan broth is still packed full of flavor (better than any other vegan pho broth I've had anywhere). They give you a substantial amount of noodles, and heaps of fresh cilantro and basil. Yum! I would still like to see them offer fresh broccoli, carrots, etc. to have another vegan pho choice aside from tofu. I lived in both Portland and Seattle and the pho places typically offer fresh veg with or without tofu as well. If they did that here, I'd bump the review to five stars! It was raining and a little chilly. We decided pho was in order, and we got it delivered because we couldn't be bothered to leave the house. It was awesome! I ordered your basic chicken-on-chicken pho, and my husband ordered the vegetarian broth with meatball. They were both fantastic and packaged really well for delivery. This is my go-to when I'm feeling this way! 6-1-Pho is my favorite place to eat when my autoimmune diseases are acting up. What a comfort food! My favorite part is their vegetarian broth. It's amazing! When I'm not feeling ill, I get beef Pho with all the good stuff. It's set up like Chipotle; you can go down the line and choose what you want in your Pho. However, they also have other items on the menu that isn't Pho. The atmosphere is nice. Every time I've been inside, it's very quiet and peaceful. The staff are kind and prompt. The only reason I knocked a star off is that I have gotten rotten basil on more than one occasion... However, it was probably just wilted from the heat, but it grossed me out anyway. It's also a bit overpriced in my opinion... especially on the days where I only get noodles and broth. But it's worth checking out! This place is fantastic! I work across the street and sometimes the smell drifting across the road completely changes my lunch plans. The pho is delicious with options to customize and I'm not sure where they get their jalapeños from but they are so spicy and delicious! I was disappointed with the bahn mi sandwiches especially after the rave reviews for them. The bread used is sub par to other Vietnamese restaurants and isn't toasted warm. Also the pork isn't grilled hot like most places. It's a cold cut pork which is ok but usually menus will just name it "cold cut bahn mi". The pickled carrot daikon topping had a super strong odor to it which was sort of unappetizing. Also, the bahn mi prices are higher than competitors. I eat here a few times a month and love everything I've tried! The vegan pho is probably the best I've had EVER. Flavorful broth, fresh ingredients, and marinated tofu are fantastic. This is a great pho place. The broth is full of flavor and I like to spice it up with the house made hot sauce. The portions are large but they let anyone order a child size if you're looking for something lighter. Food was set up assembly line style --still looked somewhat fresh, so I hoped for the best and ordered up Beef Pho and Spring Rolls then dashed the less than a quarter mile home to assemble the (hopefully) delicious foods. Beef Pho: Sticky vermicelli noodles even after introduction of broth which tasted slightly better than hot ham water. Thick, chewy pieces of beef better suited for a wedding buffet carving line. Sat for a good three minutes, chewing through connective tissue (usually a delicious treat, but not here). Any window passer-bys probably thought I was holding a very rhythmic 'meow...meow...meow' conversation with my cat. Sauces were meh; not sure how you make hot sauce 'meh' but 6-1-Pho cracked the recipe. Spring Rolls: Again, chewy. Not very fresh shrimp or chicken. Greens packed with enough anise to make your grandma's dish of black licorice candies jealous. Final Thoughts: It's fast-food; it's not fresh; it's Vietnamese-ish. If you're going to spend $16 on pho and spring rolls, support the real deal from any of the following Columbus Vietnamese restaurants: Buckeye Pho (Bethel Rd), Pho Asian Noodle House (Lane Ave), Lac Viet (NorthMarket), Indochine Cafe (Hamilton Rd), MiLi Cafe (Cleveland Ave), or Huong Restaurant (Morse). read more

Faux food pho sure. THE FOOD For me the quality of the stock is of prime importance when it come to Pho. Their stock was definitely was underpowered, as in not enough bones used in the making - likely a cost savings measure. And to compensate for less flavour from fewer bones, I strongly suspect and smelled that fish stock was added to the broth. I'm sure this recipe makes a lot of sense on a spreadsheet, but not in my bowl. The noodles were a sticky, lumpy mass - horrid. And the beef was thickly cut and precooked ... not the traditional paper thin strips of raw beef that cooks in the bowl by super hot stock ... instead we had a hot mess. The spring rolls were precooked sitting in a plastic tray on the assembly line. The bottle of coconut juice was delicious. THE ATMOSPHERE A shameless attempt to copy Chipotle, but several kinks still need to be worked out. And for crying out loud - stop with all the friggin plastic. A failing grade from an environmental standpoint too. THE SERVICE A bit of a cluster but generally friendly and courteous, some kinks need to be worked out here too. We live close by and so wanted to love this place, and are almost heartbroken that it is such a disaster. For now Huong still remains our default for Pho - or I'd sooner eat at Lan Viet, the 2 joints on Lane or Indochine or Westgate. read more

Let me start out by saying how much me and my wife LOVE pho and bahn mi sandwiches! We love so many different places in town and go weekly and this is close to our house so we were excited! Secondly, I've worked in restaurants and I understand that opening nights can be tough and don't expect great service and would forgive quite a few short comings...but this was really an epic failure! On to the food...as soon as my wife stirred her raw beef pho, she found a HUGE chunk of raw beef...it wasnt thinly sliced beef stuck together (which totally happens) it was like a large 3 oz portion of beef...which could be ok at a typical pho place that had hot broth to cook your meat but the broth was served luke warm. The broth itself not only lacks depth but tasted like it was beef broth straight out of a can from Krogers. I had the raw beef as well and although I did not find a large chunk, I was grossed out by the fact the broth was not hot. I took a few sips and the flavor combined with the temperature of the broth was enough for me to be done! We were with four other people that tried a multitude of other things on the menu, that were still available, since they were already running out of things 2 hours into the opening. They were all equally disappointed! Did I mention they served cut up lettuce instead of sprouts, basil, and cilantro. They may have just run out but did they only plan on serving 50 people???...I mean they're open tomorrow too? It's not like those are slow cooked items that when you're out, you can't just whip up more, which I understand. These are things that keep for a few days and are served with almost every meal! If you forgive all of the stumbling blocks of an opening night the problem was the food...it tasted bad. Not just uninspired and unauthentic but BAD. The only saving grace and the reason I may give them one more shot even after this epic failure was the owner. She was very nice, apologetic, and comped our meal that we did not eat and offered to bring us eggrolls. I believe she truly cares and I hope they can figure it all out. read more

My wife and I recently had dinner at 61Pho. It was a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was operating on restricted hours. It was quite busy when we arrived, but our orders were handled in a timely manner. We both ordered Pho (beef and chicken broth) and chose water to drink. The serving sizes were very minimal in respect to the prices that were charged. Both Pho bowls that we ordered were bland tasting. I spiced mine up with some Rooster Sauce to add flavor. The condiment portions were skimpy as well. There are better Pho places in Columbus, especially Pho Asian Noodle House and Grill west of campus on Lane Avenue. The staff did a fine job and the restaurant was clean and inviting. The decor is very nice with a cool hipster vibe. One of the owners greeted us in the food line and chatted us up when we had finished eating. She was very delightful to say the least. I want 61Pho to succeed, but hopefully they will improve their offerings with time. In my opinion, if they don't, this establishment will fail in the long run and that would be a shame. read more
