3.5 stars, rounding up. I guess I'm a little confused about all the Yelp hate on 6-1-Pho. It's fast-casual Vietnamese in Clintonville -- I think you kinda have to take it for what it is. I mean, do you expect Chipotle to be the same authentic Mexican food that you'd find in a hidden strip mall on the West Side? If you want the real-deal, authentic experience, I'd recommend going to either Huong or Indochine. I adore both of those places. But if you're near C-ville and want something a little faster, I'd totally suggest 6-1-Pho. Okay, enough of that -- let's jump into the review: *Interior* I loved the look here. It was bright, shiny, and clean. I thought the chalkboard was clever and inviting and did a good job of explaining the menu. *Service* The service here is awesome. The owner, Lisa, really wants to please her customers... For the guy in front of me, she asked if he'd mind waiting a few extra minutes on his bahn mi because she wanted to get some fresher bread. And when it came to my pho ga (chicken pho), she was very careful and attentive to make sure it was right. *Food* For fast-casual pho, it was A-OK. The broth is always my favorite part, and it was really tasty. I was also impressed with how hot it was served -- even after all my Instagram shenanigans, my bowl stayed piping hot the entire time. There did seem to be an abundance of rice noodles, and the chicken -- while I'm thrilled it wasn't that funky chicken you sometimes get with pho -- was a little dry. I've heard the bahn mi is fantastic; I remember CU raving about it. *Price* Yes, it's a smidge pricier than traditional, strip-mall Viet spots. Cough, Clintonville rent. *Random thoughts* I both love and hate the name. I love how punny it is, but I hate that it encourages people to pronounce it 'FO.' Pho/Com/Bun served like Chipotle. (You pick the broth, meat, and other toppings at the counter.) I love the concept! The staff is very friendly, and it is a local business, so I do really want them to succeed... But as things currently stand, this restaurant will not survive. There are too many better alternatives in Columbus. First, the broth for my beef pho tonight was the least flavorful out of all the phos I've ever had in my life. Their beef broth is entirely dependent on adding hoisin sauce and sriracha to have any flavor. Pho broth should have enough flavor in it to stand on its own should you choose not to add any sauce... and the broth here fails that litmus test. Every other pho that I've tasted in Columbus (Lan Viet, Buckeye Pho, Pho Asian Noodle House, Tai's Asian Bistro, and the now closed Lac Viet all serve superior pho.) My next concern is the meat selection. They do allow you to do half & half of two types of meat. (I went with half beef, half rare steak tonight.) But every beef pho I've ever had previously came with sliced beef (rare or not), meatball, and stewed beef tendon. So despite the superficial appearance of having a variety of meat on the menu, you actually get less variety in your beef pho at this restaurant. And the already cooked beef was tough and relatively flavorless. And finally, the price. It's waaaaaaaay overpriced. I've never paid over $10 for a beef pho, and that's what I paid here after tax. Why am I paying more for pho in North Clintonville than I would downtown at the North Market? So in summary: inferior pho at a higher price than the competition. Rather disappointing. A part of me wants to give them another try, maybe try out their rice bowl or the bahn mi sandwich next time. But unless they revamp their broth, I've definitely had their pho for the very last time. read more

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from 61Pho, especially on their soft opening night. However, the restaurant was truly a hot mess soon after I arrived. The efficiency, typical of a Chipotle-esque restaurant, was definitely not there. They were seemingly well-staffed, but in terms of menu inventory and food preparation, they were definitely slow and not prepared. By 630 pm, they had already started running out of menu items. With adequate prep and inventory, I'm sure this will improve. It has to in order for 61Pho to succeed. The restaurant itself is small, but clean and well-lit. Even after taking into consideration the outdoor seating (3 tables), the space is still on the small side. Also if the line gets too long, the outer wall seating is affected, making 61Pho feel very claustrophobic. While the restaurant was a frenzy on soft opening day, the staff was extremely polite and kept everyone happy for the most part. The owner was apologetic and actively sought out feedback, which was a good sign. Food-wise, I ordered the Pork Bahn Mi. It seemed like the smart choice, given the fact that they were running out of everything else. It was hastily and sloppily prepared in front of my eyes. Unlike traditional bahn mi i've had with thinly sliced cold cuts, the pork used at 61Pho consisted of thick pieces (shoulder and belly) that were precooked and skewered. This made for quite a hearty sandwich. As messy as it looked, it tasted great. The homemade French Pâté was rich with flavor and their mayonnaise seemed to have a spicy kick to it. My only qualm was that the bread could have been crunchier. Definitely one of the better (albeit not as traditional) bahn mi's I've had in Columbus. From a pricing perspective, I thought items were reasonably priced but definitely not inexpensive for the quantity of food you receive. I'm using Lan Viet in the North Market as the main source of comparison. A pho at 61Pho runs you $10, a rice/noodle bowl $9, a bahn mi $8 and spring rolls $6. Lan Viet's pricing is $8, $8, $5 and $3 comparatively. The pricing is most likely not going to be an issue for most, but I think cutting menu item prices by $1 would make the public happier. However, I can also understand the business side of things. Overall a shaky soft opening for 61Pho, but the quality of their bahn mi will make me come back. I can't comment on the pho or rice/noodle bowl dishes, but judging from the appearance my friends' dishes, they looked just okay. I'll be back for the bahn mi, hopefully they will have their efficiency issues sorted out by then. read more

I'm torn on this one. I met the Columbus Food Culture and Fun group here for 61Pho's soft opening tonight. This space is quite tiny inside. Something like three or four booth tables. The patio area was fantastic, with the long, wide tables (great for groups)! I do think they could benefit even more if the grand opening wasn't tomorrow nite. I felt the staff was still somewhat discombobulated. Not to mention there were so many of them working behind the counter. I'm assuming they were mentally prepping, in case they got a large clientele, but the efficiency does still have room for improvement. We got here just in time, too. A long line began to form as soon as we sat down. That's definitely a plus for this joint - the more people, the more the word spreads, the more traffic they will get (ideally). On to the food. I shared their Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Bun bowl with chicken. The only other Bun I have to compare is Lan Viet (in the North Market), and 61Pho's was not up to par, in my opinion. With that said, I thought the salad tonite was decent. The sweet rice vinegar (?) dressing was slight, the perfect accent. I do wish the toppings were more - I loved all the veggies. The chicken was moist and had good flavor. The owner came out to check on our group. She was polite, pleasant. I think it's a double plus that she asked us for any suggestions/improvements. And she listened intently to our comments with a smile. I hope this establishment is able to iron out the kinks, and is successful! read more

6-1-Pho is featured on delivery services like Postmates and UberEATS so I've gotten delivery a few times in desperation for a pho fix. I've bumped them down to 2 stars after having it a few more times. The broth is not that flavorful. They really chintz on the toppings and it's totally not worth the elevated above-market price. Even their summer rolls lacked flavor. I really wanted to support this local spot but I just feel ripped off every time I eat food from here knowing spots in Columbus are cheaper and tastier! Previous review: When I first heard that Clintonville was getting a Pho joint, I was super jazzed! Then when it opened I saw all the fickle reviews roll in here on Yelp--and with how pricey the menu appeared, I stayed away and frequented my usual Pho faves. I'm a big fan of Skip the Dishes and I recently saw 6-1-Pho pop up as an option for delivery, and I was hankering for Vietnamese, so I figured I'd give them a chance. The broth came in a plastic tub with instructions for reheating and the rare beef and additions could then be added in. The pho was okay and appeased my craving, but honestly it was nothing special. Today I needed to go to the Whetstone Library so I stopped in to 6-1-Pho as I was in the mood for soup despite the beautiful, sunny early spring day. It's a really cool space. Reminds me of the new Fusian down the street. I ordered rare beef pho again but since the beef portion was scant when I had delivery, I asked for the option to double my protein for an extra $3.50. I also got a soda from the fountain. My tab was $16+ for my meal. It's just too pricey as compared to some of my fave pho spots in town, and it's just not that worth it. I'll probably get 6-1-Pho on Skip the Dishes again since they're the only Vietnamese that delivers, but if I'm out and about I'll drive the extra mile to my favorite Pho spot that is cheaper and tastier. read more

Sad face. :(. I ordered the chicken banh mi via GrubHub (I'm a big banh mi fan!) and it was extremely disappointing. The chicken banh mi on menu states: Soy marinated pulled chicken, chili paste, pickled carrots and daicon, cucumber, cilantro, and a swipe of mayonnaise. My chicken banh mi had: Chicken (yay correct!), the pate spread used on the pork banh mi, the veggie soy ham used on the vegetable banh mi, the sriracha mayonnaise used on the vegetable banh mi (unless all of their mayo is orange), and the worst of all: a large, unidentified item that I can only describe as a big piece of kamaboko - because that's exactly what it looked like and felt like. It was about 3"x3", bouncy, and white-ish with a pink border. My friends were being really dramatic and screaming just to give an idea of how horrifying it was. I wish I would have taken a picture of it before putting it down the garbage disposal. The only thing I did take a picture of was the veggie soy ham that I took out of the trash. I contacted GrubHub and explained the issue who then contacted the restaurant. The restaurant refunded me which was greatly appreciated! Then the restaurant called me and I felt very uncomfortable because I felt that the woman I spoke to (who may have been the owner because she said she wrote the menu) seemed defensive and rushed. I felt almost embarrassed to give her all of the details because she seemed irritated and like she was being forced to apologize. :( I won't go back. Great concept. Poorly executed. Arrived an hour before closing as indicated on the handwritten sign on the door. The employees were locking the door already and telling potential customers that they were already closed. Eventually, they changed their mind and reopened the doors. The concept is intended to be the Vietnamese version of Chipotle or Piada. Unfortunately, it took 45 minutes to get the food despite being 8th in line. Bamboo in vases and jars on every table make it feel less like you're eating in a quick-serve atmosphere. Plenty of room and parking. Just a quick update here. I AM NOW OBSESSED WITH THIS PLACE. If you read my first review from a few years ago, you will see that I gave them three stars and constructive criticism. Their vegan broth is still packed full of flavor (better than any other vegan pho broth I've had anywhere). They give you a substantial amount of noodles, and heaps of fresh cilantro and basil. Yum! I would still like to see them offer fresh broccoli, carrots, etc. to have another vegan pho choice aside from tofu. I lived in both Portland and Seattle and the pho places typically offer fresh veg with or without tofu as well. If they did that here, I'd bump the review to five stars! It was raining and a little chilly. We decided pho was in order, and we got it delivered because we couldn't be bothered to leave the house. It was awesome! I ordered your basic chicken-on-chicken pho, and my husband ordered the vegetarian broth with meatball. They were both fantastic and packaged really well for delivery. This is my go-to when I'm feeling this way! 6-1-Pho is my favorite place to eat when my autoimmune diseases are acting up. What a comfort food! My favorite part is their vegetarian broth. It's amazing! When I'm not feeling ill, I get beef Pho with all the good stuff. It's set up like Chipotle; you can go down the line and choose what you want in your Pho. However, they also have other items on the menu that isn't Pho. The atmosphere is nice. Every time I've been inside, it's very quiet and peaceful. The staff are kind and prompt. The only reason I knocked a star off is that I have gotten rotten basil on more than one occasion... However, it was probably just wilted from the heat, but it grossed me out anyway. It's also a bit overpriced in my opinion... especially on the days where I only get noodles and broth. But it's worth checking out! I liked my food. I ordered the rice bowl with chicken and got a nice-sized serving and it was tasty. Lots of chicken, surprisingly. Also, brown rice is often still borderline-hard at some restaurants but it was nice and soft but still chewy here. My husband was happy with his food, too, but he's generally easy to please in the food department. The place is casual and you get your food fast which appeals to me. This place is fantastic! I work across the street and sometimes the smell drifting across the road completely changes my lunch plans. The pho is delicious with options to customize and I'm not sure where they get their jalapeños from but they are so spicy and delicious! I was disappointed with the bahn mi sandwiches especially after the rave reviews for them. The bread used is sub par to other Vietnamese restaurants and isn't toasted warm. Also the pork isn't grilled hot like most places. It's a cold cut pork which is ok but usually menus will just name it "cold cut bahn mi". The pickled carrot daikon topping had a super strong odor to it which was sort of unappetizing. Also, the bahn mi prices are higher than competitors. I eat here a few times a month and love everything I've tried! The vegan pho is probably the best I've had EVER. Flavorful broth, fresh ingredients, and marinated tofu are fantastic. The portions are large but they let anyone order a child size if you're looking for something lighter. If you don't want to read details; atmosphere awesome, food yummy but not a lot of gluten free options (need more clarity on this?) and customer service was about 2ish stars on this day. We walked in and weren't greeted, but that's okay- not every place does that...we got up to the counter and had a couple questions but the one guy who was upfront was upbeat and smiley but overwhelmed with a large to-go order so we were ignored for a few more min.- still okay bc we were looking at our options, he apologized but was getting no help from the other 2 guys working-Once we finally ordered they ended up being out of spring rolls so josh was bummed- when we asked if we could just wait for some more a man from the kitchen part told us in an abrupt tone "they are all gone" so we assume that means they were out of spring roll ingredients? We think this dude was hangry bc he went to eat after we paid which is understandable but come onnn...They had egg rolls but I told them I was gluten free and we couldn't do those. We got 2 bowls of pho and it was about $20- hella expensive for the To-go vibe. The portion was big so we had leftovers and the food tasted great but halfway in my stomach started hurting and we realized the pho bowl wasn't gluten free. I didn't even think to ask bc I'm use to it being gfree everywhere else we go. Thank goodness I don't have celiac but I do have a strong intolerance and it kills my digestive system. Today was the day. UberEats deliver to me 6-1-Pho as fast as you can. I'm hungry and house bound!! We ordered Pho with beef broth and meatballs. Egg rolls, and rice bowl with chicken. Egg Rolls : crunchy and fresh with a good taste. A quick few bites and they were gone! They are small like traditional spring rolls. Pho with beef broth and meatballs: The broth was piping hot and flavorful. The meatballs were terrible little blanched/boiled chewy little balls. There were a lot of noodles, not quite enough sauce. I did not finish the Pho. It just wasn't good. Rice bowl with chicken: Fantastic!!! Everything about it was yummy. Crisp veggies, marinated chicken, perfect rice combination. I came here with a couple of friends on a rainy day and was so intrigued by the set up. It's basically a pho version of chipotle/DIY Food places. Aka Americanized just like Panda Express. Nonetheless, the decor is nice, they have this vibrant neon green aesthetic that is fun and feels fresh. I ordered the beef broth with rare steak, and it was decent but extremely expensive for a bowl of pho compared to more authentic indochine and huongs. What was strange was that I saw them cook the rare steak with the noodles in hot water before adding in the broth which made the meat tougher (at a traditional Vietnamese place the meat cooks in the broth with the already cooked noodles) I might come back and try their other stuff, but as a Vietnamese person, I'm all about authenticity and flavor when I'm eating my people's food. Overall, this place isn't terrible, food is fresh and is a cool setup, but it's not authentic pho thus the 3 stars read more
