So, I'm in the middle of my hunt for the best vegetarian pho in Columbus and this place was my second stop. I was a little weary as it's got a build your own set up, kind of like Chipotle and well, I'm not a huge fan of Chipotle, but anyways...I get to the counter and it was so easy to build a tasty bowl. I of course, got the vegetarian broth, noodles, and all the normal fixin's for a good pho. I also opted to try their marinated tofu. I've never had marinated tofu in pho before so this was new to me. My friend and I also shared their fresh vegetarian spring rolls with peanut sauce. The place is super bright and colorful with a good bit of seating. We grabbed our utensils, and sat down in a large booth to nom nom nom. I immediately identified that this place was better than the last pho place I visited simply because their vegetarian broth is on point. It's freakin' delicious! So much flavor and body to it, it just overwhelmed me in the best possible way. I didn't even need to add much to it, except for hot sauce, but I always add hot sauce. The tofu was also really good and had tons of flavors. I was honestly caught off guard by how yummy it was. The spring rolls weren't my favorite but the peanut sauce was really good. I like a thick sauce that really sticks to your rolls and this one did the trick. Very good! I think the part about the roll that made me not a huge fan was the texture of the tofu. It just rubbed me the wrong way. I have to admit, I came in with low expectations and left an extremely satisfied customer. I'll definitely be coming here again..and again and again. They have a variety of Bahn Mi sandwiches that are simply delicious. I love the vegetarian one, my husband swears the meatball Bahn Mi is nothing short of amazing. The pork was incredibly flavorful and had a nice grill taste to it and very moist. The toppings of cucumber, tomatoes, pickled daikon and carrots, jalapeños, bean sprouts, and basil/cilantro was also very generous. I can easily get two meals out of it. Ugh. Update. Seems every time I go back something else is wrong. Seems they finally started making more vietnamese summer rolls for their side cooler. Every time I'd want some I was told they just ran out and I could wait for them to make more. I'll ask for a Bahn-Mi w/o jalapeños and it will have them. They even make an effort to ask me every time if I want them. No. Never. Stop giving them to me. And sometimes the sub isn't cut. Minor complaint, but it's a small detail, which seems like this place can't keep up with. The "new" to-go pho prep is disappointing to the point where I just won't get it any more. I came on a Thursday around 6 and it wasn't so packed but all the booths were taken. They had a few bar tables against the windows open and one huge long table. No issue because it was just three of us! As it got towards 6:30/7 I saw more people grabbing to go, but it got pretty quiet around 7:30 when we left. I had been wanting to try Pho for a long time now. Finally my nephew talked me into going. I let the guy at the counter know I was a newbie and he immediately started helping walk me through the order process. He made it super easy to order what I wanted and went over all the options perfectly. I ordered a bowl of Pho with rice noodles, meatballs, some veggies and herbs in beef broth. Also got a couple egg rolls. The Pho was AMAZING!!! the boldness of the beef broth was very strong and flavorful. Took a trip to 6-1-PHO some delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Get to know 6-1-Pho and you'll be heading to Clintonville for some addicting Pho too. Speaking of, how do you say Pho - foe or fuh? I say foe but when I say it, I always know I'm saying it wrong so I autocorrect myself to say fuh. Curious if I'm the only one out there that sounds so silly when they say it. Vegetarian? You won't have any issue finding something at 6-1-Pho as there are vegetarian options for almost everything on the menu. 6-1-Pho is "Chipotle style" aka fast casual. Pretty sure the term "Chipotle style" no longer refers to the restaurant but a system of ordering. Therefore, Chipotle style is now like Jello or Kleenex or Xerox. Started with Goi Cuon - Summer rolls with pork, shrimp, vermicelli noodles, cucumber, lettuce, basil, cilantro and green onion rolled in a thin rice paper served with hoisin peanut sauce and Cha Gio - Egg rolls with shiitake mushrooms, carrots, cabbage and onion served with a side of sweet dipping sauce. Both yummy but sometimes the thin rice paper freaks me out so I'm not the biggest fan. Next up was the chicken Bahn-Mi - Soy marinated chicken, chili paste, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumbers, cilantro and a swipe of mayonnaise. Has a wonderful hint of sweetness to it. We also got the pork Bahn-Mi which was similar and my preference between the two. One of the peeps at the table got the Noodle Salad Bowl. This is a perfect summer dish as it's cold vermicelli noodles over a bed of lettuce, mint and cucumber with your choice of protein. served with a side of cucumber, pickled carrots and daikon, crushed peanuts, Thai basil, cilantro and a side of sweet dressing. We topped this with half chicken, half tofu. But when I go to a Pho restaurant I want Pho. So I ordered the Pho - Soup Bowl which has rice noodles with your choice of protein and broth. Served with a side of bean sprouts, Thai basil, cilantro, jalapeños and a slice of lime. I topped mine with raw steak which is obviously no longer raw because the broth is so hot that it instantly cooks the steak for the freshest meat possible. This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! Couple of cool things I found out: 1. Every bowl is fresh, authentic, and homemade - every single time! 2. 6-1-Pho was started by husband and wife team Lisa Bui & Ian Capotosta. The dishes you eat at 6-1-Pho are Lisa's family recipes and have been perfected by Ian who is a trained chef with a degree in culinary arts. Talk about taking the family recipes up a notch. 3. May not be long before you can purchase their egg rolls to cook too cook and eat at home. Lastly, DO NOT skip the Cafe Sua Da especially if you're a sweet coffee lover like me. I finally got to try 6-1-PHO and can I say I love the name with the play on words for our area code great way to get me to love this company...now let me start off by saying this is a Chipotle style PHO place meaning you get to pick all your ingredients and these pick your own style is becoming more and more popular because you get a great product that your able to completely customize to your liking...when you walk in it's very modern with the chalk wall that they write messages and specials on very clean when we walked in,when we walked to the counter we were greeted by smiling faces and when we told them this was our first time they walked us thru everything and what we could get.. I got the PHO bowl with bean sprouts and onions and for my protein I got the shreaded chicken and steak with beef broth my fiance got the PHO bowl with bean sprouts and cilantro with beef broth. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal they had Sriracha bottles close by and was able to put Sriracha on individual bites as not to mess with the beef broth my fiance enjoyed her Pho as well on one note that they put a little bit too much cilantro in and it kind of overpowered the broth little bit with a really robust cilantro flavor.they use the leaves attached to the stem with gives a big flavor so my only note would be if you want cilantro just ask for a little bit. The soup itself wasn't really that flavorful and I'm sad to say that I'm really disappointed in this place. Other times when I ordered delivery or pickup, the noodles were undercooked and they barely gave me any meat. Their Thai tea is not freshly made, it is out of a can, and they did not specify that on Uber eats. 6-1-Pho is on rotation at our house. In the winter months, it was a great pick me up and in the spring/summer, it's just an easy go-to. We love the freshness of the Pho, the customer service, and the fact they can ensure our meal is gluten-free. We have always done take out so can't speak to dining in. read more

Overall the pho was pretty good. The broth was a little sweeter than what I prefer. From what I am told southern Vietnamese broth tends to be darker in color and sweeter than northern style so this may just be a personal preference. I got this via delivery (Uber eats) and it was packed very well, the Bahn mi was very good but I do wish there was more pickled veggies to put on the sub. I wish they had the summer rolls in the menu but I see it looks like they are bringing this back in 2022, my only suggestion was to either offer them in 1-2 increments instead of 3 as the price of 8 dollars may deter someone from getting especially if they just want 1 on the side :) read more

I mean, do you expect Chipotle to be the same authentic Mexican food that you'd find in a hidden strip mall on the West Side? If you want the real-deal, authentic experience, I'd recommend going to either Huong or Indochine. I adore both of those places. But if you're near C-ville and want something a little faster, I'd totally suggest 6-1-Pho. Okay, enough of that -- let's jump into the review: *Interior* I loved the look here. It was bright, shiny, and clean. I thought the chalkboard was clever and inviting and did a good job of explaining the menu. *Service* The service here is awesome. The owner, Lisa, really wants to please her customers... For the guy in front of me, she asked if he'd mind waiting a few extra minutes on his bahn mi because she wanted to get some fresher bread. And when it came to my pho ga (chicken pho), she was very careful and attentive to make sure it was right. *Food* For fast-casual pho, it was A-OK. The broth is always my favorite part, and it was really tasty. I was also impressed with how hot it was served -- even after all my Instagram shenanigans, my bowl stayed piping hot the entire time. Pho/Com/Bun served like Chipotle. (You pick the broth, meat, and other toppings at the counter.) I love the concept! The staff is very friendly, and it is a local business, so I do really want them to succeed... But as things currently stand, this restaurant will not survive. There are too many better alternatives in Columbus. First, the broth for my beef pho tonight was the least flavorful out of all the phos I've ever had in my life. Their beef broth is entirely dependent on adding hoisin sauce and sriracha to have any flavor. Pho broth should have enough flavor in it to stand on its own should you choose not to add any sauce... and the broth here fails that litmus test. Every other pho that I've tasted in Columbus (Lan Viet, Buckeye Pho, Pho Asian Noodle House, Tai's Asian Bistro, and the now closed Lac Viet all serve superior pho.) My next concern is the meat selection. They do allow you to do half & half of two types of meat. (I went with half beef, half rare steak tonight.) But every beef pho I've ever had previously came with sliced beef (rare or not), meatball, and stewed beef tendon. So despite the superficial appearance of having a variety of meat on the menu, you actually get less variety in your beef pho at this restaurant. And the already cooked beef was tough and relatively flavorless. And finally, the price. It's waaaaaaaay overpriced. I've never paid over $10 for a beef pho, and that's what I paid here after tax. Why am I paying more for pho in North Clintonville than I would downtown at the North Market? So in summary: inferior pho at a higher price than the competition. Rather disappointing. A part of me wants to give them another try, maybe try out their rice bowl or the bahn mi sandwich next time. But unless they revamp their broth, I've definitely had their pho for the very last time. read more

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from 61Pho, especially on their soft opening night. However, the restaurant was truly a hot mess soon after I arrived. The efficiency, typical of a Chipotle-esque restaurant, was definitely not there. They were seemingly well-staffed, but in terms of menu inventory and food preparation, they were definitely slow and not prepared. By 630 pm, they had already started running out of menu items. With adequate prep and inventory, I'm sure this will improve. It has to in order for 61Pho to succeed. The restaurant itself is small, but clean and well-lit. Even after taking into consideration the outdoor seating (3 tables), the space is still on the small side. Also if the line gets too long, the outer wall seating is affected, making 61Pho feel very claustrophobic. While the restaurant was a frenzy on soft opening day, the staff was extremely polite and kept everyone happy for the most part. The owner was apologetic and actively sought out feedback, which was a good sign. Food-wise, I ordered the Pork Bahn Mi. It seemed like the smart choice, given the fact that they were running out of everything else. It was hastily and sloppily prepared in front of my eyes. Unlike traditional bahn mi i've had with thinly sliced cold cuts, the pork used at 61Pho consisted of thick pieces (shoulder and belly) that were precooked and skewered. This made for quite a hearty sandwich. As messy as it looked, it tasted great. The homemade French Pâté was rich with flavor and their mayonnaise seemed to have a spicy kick to it. My only qualm was that the bread could have been crunchier. Definitely one of the better (albeit not as traditional) bahn mi's I've had in Columbus. From a pricing perspective, I thought items were reasonably priced but definitely not inexpensive for the quantity of food you receive. I'm using Lan Viet in the North Market as the main source of comparison. A pho at 61Pho runs you $10, a rice/noodle bowl $9, a bahn mi $8 and spring rolls $6. Lan Viet's pricing is $8, $8, $5 and $3 comparatively. The pricing is most likely not going to be an issue for most, but I think cutting menu item prices by $1 would make the public happier. However, I can also understand the business side of things. Overall a shaky soft opening for 61Pho, but the quality of their bahn mi will make me come back. I can't comment on the pho or rice/noodle bowl dishes, but judging from the appearance my friends' dishes, they looked just okay. I'll be back for the bahn mi, hopefully they will have their efficiency issues sorted out by then. read more
