Unexpected-all I have to say. In this plain Jane plaza of random stores, you can find this unexpected restaurant. Inside, the atmosphere is modern industrial, which is a style I really enjoy. In the back is a large bar and some of the exposed kitchen. The menu is American fare with a twist. Pictured is a twist of one of my favorites: vietname bun mi. It was called the bun mi bird. Instead of a traditional pork, it is buttermilk fried chicken (a bit over cooked/dry) mixed with pickled veggies, cilantro, and a spicy mayo. I had a bite, and it really did remind me of a bun mi (I've had quite a few growing up). I had the flank steak on top of bleu cheese bachamel. I love bleu cheese a lot, but this sauce just had a slight hint only- still super delicious. Steak was cooked a perfect medium rare (for the most part- 3/4ths). My arugula salad was perfectly dressed with a light vinaigrette that paired well with my steak. And do you see the pile of fried onions I got! I loved it. The pizza was pretty good (for the the name) but they did not skimp out on the toppings. It was loaded with mushrooms and artichoke hearts. It was delightful- especially when adding some fried onions on top. I feel like it did lack something, but I'm not sure. Maybe acid? Trust me, you're gonna want to try this unexpected place out. read more

My husband and I stopped here on Friday. It is tucked into a shopping plaza, but has nice decor once inside. It is dimly lit with tables and chairs. The bar lets you peek into the kitchen area. Our server was less than stellar; but her colleagues made up for it. We ordered the spesso pizza which they said was the most popular. It was a lot of meat like too much meat. I barely tasted pizza. We also got a Caesar salad which was pretty average. It did come with a bread stick pretzel. Overall good. read more

Yelp claims I have already reviewed 56. So, Just a quick addendum about Saturdays dinner. I had the trout special, and SPECIAL it was. Matt the chef exceeded again. Plating was nice, the aeoli for the trout was out of this world. It is now Monday and I am eating the leftover couscous salid that the trout sat on from Saturday. Came here with a friend tonight to try the gluten-free options. I was pleasantly surprised. They were very knowledgeable of what was safe to eat and although they don't have a dedicated GF fryer, the options were extensive. I had the French Kiss salad and the Love Bird sandwich. I wasn't sure if I would love the sandwich but it was awesome! So flavorful and the GF bun didn't crumble the way that most do. They also had Diet Dr. Pepper - most places only have Diet Coke or Pepsi. I can't wait to come back with my husband to try more of the menu. I'm so glad I found this place! We took a two-hour drive here from Toledo for a doctor's appointment. After the long drive and visit, my husband and I were famished. Before we started the drive back home we decided to find a local place to eat. I wanted something different from your average chain restaurant. that we could just eat at in Toledo. I hopped on yelp and 56 Kitchen popped up with awesome reviews. Let me tell ya, they didn't disappoint! It was so good I forgot to take a picture of the yummy goodness before I started digging in. If we come back to the area, I'd love to stop by again. We ordered the spesso pizza, vegan meatballs, and the pesto chicken tortellini special. I was driving from Chicago back to New Jersey and stopped by Cleveland overnight. I came in around 9:30 pm on Thursday night and the restaurant was empty and they were getting ready to close early. I preserved the Pan Seared Walleye and the bartender was glad since she thought that was a great local dish. I was not disappointed at all the Walleye, thought cooked from frozen steak, was crispy one side and tender and juicy on the other side. The grilled polenta and ratatouille tasted great as well. What a delicious late dinner! Definitely worth coming back to sample more dishes. read more

I had never heard of this place until recently but since I'm local, it was good that I checked it out. First impressions...I thought it was for sure closed because it was so dang dark in here. The room is spacious with rustic looking decor but nothing stood out as too creative or high end. Maybe it was because it was a Monday evening? Maybe their head chef wasn't there? I don't know but I'm probably not coming back to this place... Pros: I'm scratching my head here because I can't think of much...not crowded was nice. Location was convenient with plenty of parking...They tried with presentation of making a small amount of food arranged artistically unsuccessfully Cons: -Our waiter was extremely slow and there were only 3 other tables the whole night. He waited 10 minutes after all our food was cleared to ask if we wanted dessert. No...just the check but that took another 10 minutes of waiting to take it...we wasted a lot of time here because of his speed. He was nice enough but not attentive -We ordered the poutine, beef short rib special and salmon nuggets. The nuggets were cold on the inside. My date spat his out. The beef short rib was shredded into smithereens and served on 3 crackers. There was not enough food for a mouse. It's not my first rodeo with poutine. You can't just take regular skinny burnt end fries and melt mozzarella on it. Where were the cheese curds? Where was all the gravy? Fail. -The bathroom smelled funky, was extremely cold and didn't have a working soap dispenser -The menu also looked too basic. Wish they had more choices and variety read more

So we are out doing some Christmas shopping and were looking for a new place ( somewhere we hadn't been). We decided on kitchen 56 and can I say it was one of the best in a while. Located in a plaza, it doesn't have a lot of seating, but the place is wonderful. Without going on for days it is a place you really need to check out the food and Jay our server was as personable as could be even though we were only there for a short time the place in one word is...FANTASTIC. read more

56 kitchen was such a wonderful experience and worth going out of your way to eat at. They are most known for their salads because originally they had 56 different salads. They have since expanded the menu and reduced the number of salads. That seems to have been a smart choice because people do like variety and everything we tasted was phenomenal. There is something on the menu for everyone. The pizza was artsy looking and tasted great. The crust was stuffed with a ricotta cheese. The wing sauces were very good, my favorite sauce was the Thai chili. I absolutely loved the artichoke hearts with lime aioli. Customer service was top notch here. Very friendly staff and wonderful service. We would definitely return when traveling through northern Ohio. read more

56 was such a great experience. I am so glad I decided to eat here on my way through the greater Cleveland area! The ambiance was that of a delightful social kitchen with simple seating, and cheerful wait staff. I chose the Piedi Nudi which was one of their yummy, more of a veggie pizza. It was delicious! Again with the simple, I had the British Invasion which is an Earl Grey infused Vodka with lemon and honey, sort of like a cup of tea on stilts. :) It was really tasty! I really enjoyed just being there and, traveling alone, I didn't feel like I was an imposition dining single. All around, I would say this was a great experience. Nice place! Nice ambience, good food, good drinks, good service. Food is good quality for the price, but i do think we paid a little too much for mac and cheese and burgers. But the drinks were great! We went for happy hour but none of the drinks we ordered fell on the list so we paid full price. And we got a hummus plate as an appetizer with pita bread and toasted sour-doe for $3 and it was enough for four of us! And we were pretty hungry! They have a huge wine selection and their mixed drinks were really good as well. Our waitress was very friendly, recommended some drinks and checked on us a lot. My friend had a small fly get into her drink as we were finishing up and the waitress took the drink off her bill which I thought was very considerate. We left her a generous tip :) Nice location for the place too, right in Solon circle. We went at 3:30pm and it wasn't too busy. We left around 5p and it picked up a little so I would check google or something to see the wait time before you leave if you go in the evening. Let me start by saying I love cafe 56! Although the menu could be overwhelming the salads were always delicious and those chips?!? AMAZING (I love a fresh chip) so when 56 kitchen opened I put it on my list.. we arrive to a strip mall which I was a little disappointed in, not a great location but awesome interior. It was warm and toasty and super busy! We only had to wait for a moment before we were seated. It's a little tight, I felt like I was eating with my neighbors but luckily they were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Great specials but the menu is a little of a mashup, I couldn't quite figure out the cuisine, it was a mix of Med and Indian style, with everything from short ribs to eggplant. The pizzas sounded good so we order the garlic shrimp pizza and I got a Caesar side salad. The pizza was a disappointment, the shrimp had no flavor and the crust was too fluffy and didn't have a good BITE.. no flavor to the crust, almost tasted premade instead of fresh dough.. overall flavorless.. My salad was ok, but it came with one huge crouton which was just overkill. Our server was sweet and accommodating with a great personality! She was happy to be there and I love that.. 3 stars because I genuinely like the place but they definitely have to work on that pizza! read more

Absolute worst experience we've had in a long time. Went for lunch on February 13, 2024 and ordered a burger. I asked for my burger to be medium rare (a very common cook for a burger) and after a somewhat long wait, it came out well done ... actually, beyond well done. It was burnt on the outside and completely dry and overcooked inside. I showed our server and she apologized, and ordered a second medium rare burger. After a little while the second burger came out and this time it was raw. Completely raw throughout. I showed our server and she called over the head chef. That was a complete waste of time; he had a piss-poor attitude and started making excuses and said there was a lot of stuff going on, but I pointed out that the restaurant was empty with only 3 or 4 tables occupied. Even our server was taken aback by how rude he was and the total lack of customer service he provided. He seemed peeved to even have to deal with me. He asked if I wanted something else and I said I had wanted a burger, but apparently their cook was incapable of cooking a medium rare burger. At that point, my wife and I left and vowed to never come back. If the grill cook can't even make a simple burger to the proper temperature, that definitely, in my opinion, does not bode well for the cooking abilities throughout the restaurant. How this grill cook even got a job speaks volumes about the management staff and head chef. Do yourself a favor and stay away ... especially if you want a burger. read more

One of the best restaurants I have found in a strip mall location in Solon. Really enjoyed the diversity of options on the menu - lots of vegetarian and vegan picks, that and gluten free all clearly denoted on the menu. The dinner menu has something for everyone, the kitchen is making a wide range of different food genres. Solid wine, beer and drink options - reasonably priced, just a tad expensive. Menu items were also reasonably priced, perhaps a tad pricey for Solon, OH. I ate the veggie burger, it was huge, and my husband enjoyed the pork chop (delicious but a tad salty). I would definitely consider eating here again. Biggest watch out - it was around ~10 degrees F outside, and we were seated near the door. Got blasted every time someone came in, even though they had 2 doors. Wish I was sitting closer to the kitchen... UPDATE: I've dined 3 times now at 56 Kitchen and they've earned upgrade from 4 to 5 stars. Consistently good service, their menu has something for everyone (all dietary needs), and good is always tasty. read more

I'm a burger snob visiting from out of town. I'm also gluten free so meeting my standards is very difficult. We stumbled on this place randomly. Holy smokes! This burger blew me away. Visited a few weeks back, one of the first restaurants I tried in Solon. The ambiance is nice, there were probably about six guests there. I sat at the bar and was serviced fairly quickly. The bartender suggested some type of blueberry vodka drink, it was just ok. Calamari for an appetizer was more like crumbs! I ordered the shrimp & grits without peppers. It was just ok, probably not worth the money. It took a while for the bartender to close me out because she was too busy gossiping with her coworker about the work gossip. My husband and I were in Solon, OH for our friends' wedding and were lucky enough to go to dinner here. What a FABULOUS experience!!! The staff was kind and able to fit us in without a reservation. Our food was so fresh and delicious, and Lexii, our waitress, was lovely and obviously a fan of the place. She enthusiastically recommended items on the menu and shared the story of the restaurant's origin and development through the years. I chose the French Kiss Salad with salmon and it was perfectly prepared. My husband picked the seasonal Fall Apple Salad--also wonderful--and we each tasted both. A glass of white sangria, which was a clever twist on the usual version, nicely complimented my meal, while my husband thoroughly enjoyed his bourbon flight. Wow! The food is amazing. I did the pick 3-4-so, I got the Wedge salad, which had a light ranch and was just delicious. This was followed by the flank steak w buttery seasonings and crisp Brussels sprouts and zucchini with fresh tomatoes. The serve was also impeccable; friendly and prompt. I really wanted to like this place. After lots of research coming in to town I picked this place since it was rated number one. Order the fried chicken with brussels sprouts and roast cauliflower. Unfortunately the chicken was just kind of OK and pretty soggy after being held in the carry out container for a little bit. The wedge salad that I got in addition to was actually pretty good. Ordered two sauces but they missed one in my order. Unfortunately they gave me no plasticware or napkins to boot. Not sure if it was worth the $20 that I spent. I'm sure it's probably better when you eat there instead of getting a carry out. read more
