Wish we would have read a few of the other reviews before coming here. Early Sunday afternoon had a craving for a breakfast bagel sandwich and somehow ended up in this place. First of all, their breakfast sandwich starts off as just bread and 1 egg. "Upgrade" to a bagel and that's $1 extra. Add another $1 for meats, either sausage, ham, or bacon. Finally add 50 cents for a slice a cheese. 50 cents for slice of cheese!!! First time at this place and will not be going back. Not because they charge you a dollar for a bagel on top of the regular cost of the sandwich, but because they have the balls to charge 50 cents for a slice of cheese. read more

Had to knock two stars off though because three times I've been here and the waitress was rude, didn't check on my table, only took order and dropped check, and seemed bothered anytime we stopped her to ask a question or request refills. All I have heard was good things from all my friends so I was very excited. I cut into my pancakes and there was a wrapper from a stick of butter cooked into it. The waitress came over and was telling me to "put that down put that down put it away" trying to make sure no one else saw what was in my food. 6 of us showed up at lunch time on a Friday. Had to wait about 15 minutes then were seated. Waitress was very nice and very accommodating for our crew of "special orders". Don't bother. Fake 50s through and through. We waited. BLT: overcooked, tasteless bacon and tasteless tomato (the toasted bread was good). I have visited the diner several times over the past 2 years for breakfast and lunch. The quality of food is just OK. Customer service, again OK. I have gone back several times because of friends wanting to go there and also to give the diner a chance. The breakfast on my most recent visit was terrible. Scrambled eggs bland, almost like they had been watered down. Home fires, very bland, some mushy and others very burnt. Added salt (I never add salt to my food), but this did not help the taste. No taste to French toast either. I have had slightly better luck with lunch menu items, but will not return based on my most recent visit. I go out to breakfast frequently (4-6 times per month) and there are many good small independently owed eateries in the Dedham/Norwood/Westwood area with better quality of food and customer service. read more

I would say it is a bit pricey but nothing too bad and the wait is really long but they are good about moving people in and out quickly. Located at the end of a very busy and thriving route 1, The 50's Diner is just a stone's throw from Legacy Place (upscale shopping plaza) I went to breakfast here with some friends from town and after beating back an enormous crowd, sampled several items on the menu. The food is exactly as you would expect for a 50s diner. large portions of home-made, but greasy, breakfast food served quickly and with a smile. The 3 egg omelette was absolutely stuffed with spinach, sausage and gooey cheese. The chocolate pancakes were huge and overflowing with a huge pile of butter under a generous dusting of powdered sugar, the classic eggs and bacon plate was well prepared and flavorful with hot and crispy toast, and the corned beef hash was home-made with huge chunks of flaky meat. We also had some very flavorful turkey sausage links as well. I would not say it was the best breakfast I've had in the area, but it was solid fare for fairly cheap, and the line did move quickly. The place is always packed so they must be doing something right! I'd like to try some of their lunch options because the milkshakes look absolutely delicious! read more

I live in north attleboro and am willing to drive the 30-40 minutes to go to this place. Many a days of senior year were spent skipping classes to get breakfast at 11:00 after all the important classes. No trip would be complete without the frappes you get two glasses with whipped cream on top. They serve breakfast all day long and the lunch is good too. The french toast is so delicious. The price's are defiantly reasonable. It is hidden behind the cabinet place but once you find it its worth it. There is usually a line on weekends but its sooo worth it. I believe they do not take credit cards so take some cash and definitely worth it. read more

We like this diner a lot. The prices for breakfast is okay but the food is consistent. The only thing I had a gripe about was that we were sitting next to the A/C unit and we went last weekend (November). One thing I thing they can do a better job are their homefries. I don't like it when it's just cooked with no seasoning. It needs a little bit of salt/pepper/and maybe some garlic or onion seasoning. But my veggie omelett was delicious but too big for me to finish. My husband and their french toast and really enjoyed it. He said it was one of his favorite places for french toast and that says a lot considering the many different places we've been for breakfast. read more

I always find this place to be worth the wait if there is one, and there usually is. I go for the veggie omelet, you choose five out of six available ingredients, and they stuff it full. The coffee is decent for a greasy spoon that doesn't specialize in coffee and you never have to wait too long for a warm up. If you can pack it in, order a milkshake. It's TWO milkshakes. It might take a little while to show up on your table, but I think that's because they sell alot due to the fact that it's delicious. I enjoy the fact that it's cash only, as plastic transactions tend to make everything take longer. I only wish that it were more 50's in the sense that half the clientele is usually clad in sweatpants and flip-flops. Why is it now o.k. to look like a slob and wear pajamas everywhere? read more

growing up in dedham this was the breakfast place to go to. very delicious food. try an ernie burger, yummy! lines are long on weekends.

I love this place but hate the wait hence the 4 stars and not 5. They can't accomodate their own crowd which is good for them not great for us. Besides that point, the blueberry muffin on the griddle with the insane amount of butter is so delicious, along with any frappe. Egg dishes are standard but breakfast potatoes at great. You also can't beat the price! The pancakes are huge and thick- they are offered as a side but are a meal by themselves. The coffee is also pretty good considering the amount of people they have to serve. Ok end of stream of conscience about this place but go here- you will be pleasantly surprised! read more

Fabulously fun throwback to the 50s! Would definitely go back as there was so much on the menu I wanted to try. Went the 2nd Sunday in July with some girlfriends. I called ahead to inquire on location (which they forgot to tell me to take a right at the light which we figured out), reservations (which they don't take but could have mentioned we simply wait in line till we get in the door or they come out to us). The girls and I enjoyed our meals, we got a variety of breakfasts and a lunch, with 2 of us getting their special which was enough for us to take home nearly half of our meals. The french toast with powdered sugar was delish!! Cool atmosphere and decor. One of my friends thought it was too cool and they lowered the fans; I was comfy but she complained again till she had coffee in her. Wish plates would have been cleared without having to ask after she passed by at least 5 times with the empty plate on the corner of the table. Very cool that she was able to give us individual checks after our order and meal was complete. Not used to going to a register to pay for my breakfast but that was cool. Need to go back to try the fried dough and drinks. read more

After seeing long lines for this diner on weekends, when friends came from out of town I decided to take them there for a weekday breakfast. The décor was ok, a bunch of reproduction tin signs. The waitress was very aggressive about getting our orders quickly even though the place was not crowded...the food--the usual breakfast fare-- is expensive considering the suburban location (e.g. $4.00 extra for 3 pieces of bacon), but once we got near finishing our food, the pressure mounted for us to leave ("do you want anything else?" three times in the space of 10 minutes) and free up the table, even though there was no line and empty tables...considering that it was 10 am on a weekday, this became borderline obnoxious...and then when I tried paying with a credit card I was summarily reprimanded that they take "cash only"...I have experienced this once before at Woodman's of Essex but, to borrow a political line, this place is no Woodman's! Do Not I repeat Do Not go to this Diner if you have small kids. went twice before and staff had attitude about kids. Today I went I have 3 year old twins who were making a little noise. They were not running around they never left our booth area but we were asked to leave. They staff was extremely rude to me and seemed to enjoy asking me to leave my breakfast. I did not get to eat and the two other people with me did not know what to do. In fact the employee yelled at the other guest at the table. she said I don't know why you are telling me they are not my kids. I spoke to the manager and said I thought what happened was rude and that the diner was casual dining ( this is a basic breakfast place ) Children should be welcomed here. These3 year old girls go out to eat all the time. They have been to Mortons' steakhouse which is upscale dining and been treated better. A breakfast place should be a place you can take children . I WILL NEVER GO To THIS PLACE AGAIN AND WILL MAKE SURE I BAD MOUTH THEM TO EVERYONE. They only take cash and I am sure they are not even honestly reporting their income to the IRS.
