i was just searching the web for good burgers to eat around me and this place was listed as a go to place. well my wife and I stopped in and was a little nervous because of the rock climbing place was right next to it and I was concerned about people walking barefooted in front of me as I ate well that's just me. so I went ahead a ordered the basic burger and took the other vision out of my mind. the place to eat is small but we were there at around 2 so we had a place to eat. they have a good menu and the prices are reasonable. the burger came in and BAM good stuff. we will return for the pizza. the place was clean and even the restroom was clean. the service was good. if you looking for a different type of spot to eat we'll try this and the food will not disappoint you.

I was looking for a place to dine in this area of town with a friend, and this popped up as an option. Thought I would try it out. Imagine my surprise when I arrived, to learn that this place is actually a small open cafe inside of a rock climbing facility. Despite that, we decided to stay and give it a try. The menu lists an array of burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas along with flavored teas. They're some unique and tasty sounding combinations. Also present is a coffee bar for your espresso needs. At the counter, I ordered a burger with goat cheese, arugula, bacon, and bacon jam. It sounded like an interesting combination. Went with the salad instead of fries for my side. You get a choice of either. The burger itself was pretty good though on the small size. The bun really stood out because it looked almost like a biscuit crossed with an English muffin. I realized they must make their buns out of bread they use for pizza dough. While on the denser side, it worked pretty well with the burger patty and toppings. The salad was fresh and light, similar to a Greek salad. It was kinda fun watching the climbers do their thing. While we were dining, several other patrons in office work attire came in and also ordered from the cafe to dine in, with little interest in the rock climbing. So I guess we're not the only ones who came here for the food.

Why 3 stars? Because our food was okay but it's nice to have a legitimate restaurant inside of a rock climbing studio. --- --- --- Most rock climbing studios probably don't even have a cafe in them, and if they did, they certainly wouldn't be a destination restaurant. When we moved to the area, I bookmarked all highly rated restaurants in the area and this was one of them. It wasn't until I seriously considered going that I found out where it was located. So while I was pretty excited to eat from such a unique place, I was a bit disappointed that everything was fairly average. I ordered the farmhouse burger and my wife went with the Italian pizza. Neither was bad but neither was impressive enough for me to feel like I ever needed to visit again. Unless, of course, we are at the rock climbing studio and work up an appetite.

So, my first time was so good, I had to return ASAP! Burger overload, ready set go! I return a week or so later, same fabulous burger, same side salad filled with loads of fresh cheese & better than iceberg REAL nutritional lettuce. This time I try the balsamic dressing though, OH MY, talk about top notch restaurant quality bursting tangy, tart, sweet, flavor. Wow, I could just eat the dressing alone. Needless to say just like the first time I devoured every bite of that burger & salad. Just so satisfying. And this time I was able to meet a new server, Melanie, she was amazing & she's a Mel too, double plus. The cook which you can actually see from the ordering counter sends a nice smile from the back also. Pretty sure I'll be a new regular here! FYI don't forget your tip money, they deserve it. Excellent restaurant!

Burger with a side of fries plus extra cost to change the type of fries. What did I get? 8 tater tots. 8. Is this really the size of a side plus the extra paid to upgrade the type of fry? I'm not usually the one to complain about portion sizes but this is quite a rip off. We all know very well the cost of potatoes and the cost of a bag of frozen potato. A tad cheap on their end. Also ordered sweet potato fries and this was more of what I expected the size of a side being. Chicken salad, wasn't expecting anything fancy here. Chicken wasn't dry so that's a perk. As for the quantity, I guess this is how they make money too. This looks like a salad I make at home on a daily and it cost me 1/8 the price. Granted I'm paying for it to be made for me and packaging supplies. Overall, the food wasn't bad, it was moreso the quantity to price ratio. I shouldn't have needed to spend $40 here to be satisfied for one meal. Especially if there was nothing special to it. I'm all about spending $25 on a fancy burger or $300 on tiny portions of fancy for but I'm not about spending a lot on an average Joe.

We have the rock climbing gym membership, and we grab a bite to eat here after our climbs regularly. Everything we have ordered from the menu has been awesome, and their pizza is by far the best in the area. My husband is a fan of the buffalo chicken and bacon with blue cheese, and I love the red, white, and green. My favorite burger so far is the classic. The use of housemade English muffins instead of traditional buns is the best. Fries are always nice and crispy. It's a small cafe, and service is always great. Ambiance is laid-back, and it's fun to observe other climbers while you eat.

Yes, it is inside of a rock climbing gym. This place makes a mean burger! The farmhouse burger was made to perfection and was an explosion of flavors. Nothing was too overwhelming so it was great. I got the Cajun fries, I'd probably go with plain fries next time, because I couldn't finish them all with the seasoning on it due to how much the burger stuffed me. I got a pizza to go, WOW! You can taste the freshness of the pizza! All of the ingredients taste fresh! Even if you're not into rock climbing, visit the cafe like I did for lunch! It's worth it!

We heard about this place from watching a review from The Daytripper. My husband and I made it out that way a couple weeks ago and it definitely lived up to the hype! We both got the Avocado Burger with Fries and they did not disappoint. The rock climbing wall was a bit odd to be inside of a café or is it the other way around??? We would probably try it out again one day if we're up in the area.

Ask the Community - 5 Ate Cafe

Yelp lists 5 Ate as Vegan. I don't see any way on the menu to determine which things are vegan. I'm sure the salads are. The only thing I see listed as being vegan is a specific cheese. Anyone know where to find more info?

FYI: Yelp! lists 5.Ate as Pizza and Burgers, not vegan. 5.Ate may be able to cobble something vegan together (substitute a veggie patty for beef), but there is nothing on the menu that is specifically vegan. Give them a call.

He was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and even helped us select an entrée for Mom. We both ordered the Chicken Panini, hers with broccoli soup and mine with chicken pot pie soup. Our meals were delivered promptly by a sweet, cordial young lady. Mom was excited to see her entrée, but after a few bites, she found her broccoli soup too salty. I tasted it as well and suspected the cheddar cheese base was the reason. I went to the counter to request a bowl of hot water to dilute the soup, which helped a little. The gentleman who took our order noticed and immediately asked if everything was okay. When I mentioned the high sodium content for Mom, he kindly offered to bring another cup prepared with more milk or to swap it for a different soup. Mom opted for the potato soup, and he graciously brought it out. The Chicken Panini was excellent -- warm, well-made, and flavorful. The side of plain house chips was decent, though a bit salty for our taste -- especially when paired with the soup. A baked chip option might be a nice, lighter alternative for some guests. The restaurant itself was clean, and I appreciated seeing staff promptly clearing and wiping down tables as guests left. It added to the welcoming and well-kept atmosphere. We ended our meal with a smooth, delicious ice cream cone -- the perfect sweet finish. While a few items were on the salty side for us, the outstanding service, clean environment, and overall meal quality made the visit worthwhile. We'll definitely be back!

But here's my experience: I walked in. There is a gentleman with blonde hair and a cap on who welcomed me. I tell him that this is my first time ever coming to this establishment. He doesn't rush me. He allowed me to pick what I wanted. Now the next young lady who started making the sandwich was veryyyyy new. She was nervous so we'll bypass her little mistake. There's another lady by the name of Bernice who was absolutely amazing. Her attitude was upbeat. She helped me to understand the process as well. Now it's time for me to check out. There is an older lady that's tall who gave NO allowance to the fact that I was a NEW customer. She asked if my meal was to go or not, but she gave me the impression that she may have jumped the gun by wrapping the sandwich before asking the question. So I say, "whichever is easiest for you". It's obvious that there are new employees there so I tried to work with everybody. She lowers her voice and speaks to me in a stern manner. I expressed again I was new to the restaurant and did not know the process. I asked,. "Are you going to put it on a plate and give it to me if I eat here or do you wrap it up and bag it regardless I don't know your process." She explained the process. So I told her just to put it on the bag and that I would work it out . I said thank you. I asked for my cup that she forgot to give me. She says oh yeah, she passed me the cup. At this point, I wasn't gonna ask her for the lid. Then I just said," no worries. We are all new here". At THAT POINT, I knew I would never come back because of her aggressiveness. So as I'm eating my sandwich, here comes Bernice with a smile on her face who asked, " how do you like your sandwich and is everything OK for you?" THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING!!!! When she thought I was done, she came back to the table and said can I help you with anything? How was your meal? Mannnnnn, she won me over!!!! I managed a call center in banking for 7 years and stayed in management until, I retired. When I tell you Bernice totally changed my mind about everything! I will be back. The food was good!!. A quick Google search brought this place up first with 4.9 stars, which is practically unheard of these days, so we decided to try it. Wow. What a meal. We started with the onion ring basket and a half order of beer bread. The onion rings were fantastic--huge, thick-cut rings with a wonderfully seasoned batter that actually had flavor instead of tasting flat or bland. Served piping hot, which matters to me because I like my food HOT. The ranch dressing was a great addition, too. The beer bread was decent. You could definitely taste the beer, but it wasn't the best loaf I've ever had. Mom, Mark, and I all ordered the grilled ribeye steak sandwich. I'm the only one who got it as designed on the menu. I originally expected more of a slab-of-steak sandwich, but it was actually closer to a Philly cheesesteak style sandwich, which honestly I prefer. Mom and Mark skipped the peppers, onions, garlic aioli, and pepper jack cheese in favor of lettuce, tomato, and mayo instead. Our waiter, Evan, was wonderful! He was friendly, attentive, accommodating, and clearly proud of the restaurant. He even offered to tell us the history of the building and restaurant, which added so much to the experience. The story is also printed on the back of the menu, and it's definitely worth reading. Evan mentioned he's only been there a few months, but he is absolutely an asset to the restaurant as a server. My brother Mark is blind and autistic, and it's honestly not often a server addresses him directly. They usually look to mom or me and ask, "What does he want?," but Evan asked Mark directly. Kudos to him. We had to finish the meal with the historical whiskey chocolate cake, and I'm glad we did. It's served warm with whipped cream on the side, caramel sauce drizzled across the plate, and pecans on top. Absolutely delicious and huge! There were four of us who shared it, and it was more than enough for each of us. Also worth mentioning: the sweet potato fries are an extra $4 but absolutely worth it. These are NOT frozen Ore-Ida fries dumped from a bag. They're clearly fresh cut and homemade, and they were delicious. For nearly two o'clock in the afternoon, the place was packed--at least three-quarters full--and the entire atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Everyone we encountered was friendly. I live in Katy, so Old Town Spring is definitely not nearby for me, but I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in the area or just passing through. It's easy to see why people love it. A definite five-star experience for us!
