i was just searching the web for good burgers to eat around me and this place was listed as a go to place. well my wife and I stopped in and was a little nervous because of the rock climbing place was right next to it and I was concerned about people walking barefooted in front of me as I ate well that's just me. so I went ahead a ordered the basic burger and took the other vision out of my mind. the place to eat is small but we were there at around 2 so we had a place to eat. they have a good menu and the prices are reasonable. the burger came in and BAM good stuff. we will return for the pizza. the place was clean and even the restroom was clean. the service was good. if you looking for a different type of spot to eat we'll try this and the food will not disappoint you.

I was looking for a place to dine in this area of town with a friend, and this popped up as an option. Thought I would try it out. Imagine my surprise when I arrived, to learn that this place is actually a small open cafe inside of a rock climbing facility. Despite that, we decided to stay and give it a try. The menu lists an array of burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas along with flavored teas. They're some unique and tasty sounding combinations. Also present is a coffee bar for your espresso needs. At the counter, I ordered a burger with goat cheese, arugula, bacon, and bacon jam. It sounded like an interesting combination. Went with the salad instead of fries for my side. You get a choice of either. The burger itself was pretty good though on the small size. The bun really stood out because it looked almost like a biscuit crossed with an English muffin. I realized they must make their buns out of bread they use for pizza dough. While on the denser side, it worked pretty well with the burger patty and toppings. The salad was fresh and light, similar to a Greek salad. It was kinda fun watching the climbers do their thing. While we were dining, several other patrons in office work attire came in and also ordered from the cafe to dine in, with little interest in the rock climbing. So I guess we're not the only ones who came here for the food.

Why 3 stars? Because our food was okay but it's nice to have a legitimate restaurant inside of a rock climbing studio. --- --- --- Most rock climbing studios probably don't even have a cafe in them, and if they did, they certainly wouldn't be a destination restaurant. When we moved to the area, I bookmarked all highly rated restaurants in the area and this was one of them. It wasn't until I seriously considered going that I found out where it was located. So while I was pretty excited to eat from such a unique place, I was a bit disappointed that everything was fairly average. I ordered the farmhouse burger and my wife went with the Italian pizza. Neither was bad but neither was impressive enough for me to feel like I ever needed to visit again. Unless, of course, we are at the rock climbing studio and work up an appetite.

So, my first time was so good, I had to return ASAP! Burger overload, ready set go! I return a week or so later, same fabulous burger, same side salad filled with loads of fresh cheese & better than iceberg REAL nutritional lettuce. This time I try the balsamic dressing though, OH MY, talk about top notch restaurant quality bursting tangy, tart, sweet, flavor. Wow, I could just eat the dressing alone. Needless to say just like the first time I devoured every bite of that burger & salad. Just so satisfying. And this time I was able to meet a new server, Melanie, she was amazing & she's a Mel too, double plus. The cook which you can actually see from the ordering counter sends a nice smile from the back also. Pretty sure I'll be a new regular here! FYI don't forget your tip money, they deserve it. Excellent restaurant!

Burger with a side of fries plus extra cost to change the type of fries. What did I get? 8 tater tots. 8. Is this really the size of a side plus the extra paid to upgrade the type of fry? I'm not usually the one to complain about portion sizes but this is quite a rip off. We all know very well the cost of potatoes and the cost of a bag of frozen potato. A tad cheap on their end. Also ordered sweet potato fries and this was more of what I expected the size of a side being. Chicken salad, wasn't expecting anything fancy here. Chicken wasn't dry so that's a perk. As for the quantity, I guess this is how they make money too. This looks like a salad I make at home on a daily and it cost me 1/8 the price. Granted I'm paying for it to be made for me and packaging supplies. Overall, the food wasn't bad, it was moreso the quantity to price ratio. I shouldn't have needed to spend $40 here to be satisfied for one meal. Especially if there was nothing special to it. I'm all about spending $25 on a fancy burger or $300 on tiny portions of fancy for but I'm not about spending a lot on an average Joe.

We have the rock climbing gym membership, and we grab a bite to eat here after our climbs regularly. Everything we have ordered from the menu has been awesome, and their pizza is by far the best in the area. My husband is a fan of the buffalo chicken and bacon with blue cheese, and I love the red, white, and green. My favorite burger so far is the classic. The use of housemade English muffins instead of traditional buns is the best. Fries are always nice and crispy. It's a small cafe, and service is always great. Ambiance is laid-back, and it's fun to observe other climbers while you eat.

Yes, it is inside of a rock climbing gym. This place makes a mean burger! The farmhouse burger was made to perfection and was an explosion of flavors. Nothing was too overwhelming so it was great. I got the Cajun fries, I'd probably go with plain fries next time, because I couldn't finish them all with the seasoning on it due to how much the burger stuffed me. I got a pizza to go, WOW! You can taste the freshness of the pizza! All of the ingredients taste fresh! Even if you're not into rock climbing, visit the cafe like I did for lunch! It's worth it!

We heard about this place from watching a review from The Daytripper. My husband and I made it out that way a couple weeks ago and it definitely lived up to the hype! We both got the Avocado Burger with Fries and they did not disappoint. The rock climbing wall was a bit odd to be inside of a café or is it the other way around??? We would probably try it out again one day if we're up in the area.

This was the most delicious burgers and pizza I have ever eaten. The Shar-warma burger was out of this world. The beef patty was juicy from start to finish. Wonderful spice and cool Tzaziki cucumber sauce that makes no sense at all! The Ultra-veg is well leveled with all the veggie fixings and sauce was done right. Well done!!! read more

We've been to the Houston area a couple of times to visit family, and 5 Ate is the only place that we've made sure to visit each time. It's located inside of a climbing gym, so expectations weren't too high the first time. But that turned out to be 100% wrong. We've only had burgers and fries, but that's because they're so great we can't stray away. We've tried a variety of burgers and have determined that you can't go wrong with anything you choose. And the fries are your typical fry, but they taste much better than most. I don't know if it's the oil they use, or seasoning, but they're great! We've actually only ever gone to eat, so we feel like slobs watching people rock climb, but for the excellent food I'll do it every time! read more

Yes, this is a cafe inside a rock climbing gym - Dont let that deter you though. I was weary but trusted the reviews and they did not fail me! The Farmhouse burger was delicious. I was craving a good burger and it definitely hit the spot. It comes with your choice of fries or salad. My husband got the salad and I got the fries so we could try both. After such a big burger it's hard to have space for more food. The fries are regular, salad was good. The chocolate chip cookie was delicious also! Come here if you want a great burger! read more

I found this restaurant on Yelp and checked it out because of the awesome reviews and I'm so glad I did. I went on a Thursday around 5:30 with my husband and two kids under 4. We ordered the kids pizza, Shar-warma Burger, and the Classic Burger with bacon. One with a side salad and the other with garlic butter fries. Everything was amazing! The burgers had great flavor and the patties were nicely charred. The bacon was some of the best bacon I've had. I thought the Shar-Warma burger would be interesting but the flavors so worked so well together. The pizza tasted like a one you would get in New York, absolutely perfect! And the garlic butter fries, OMG! Everyplace needs to offer garlic butter on their fries! There was a steady stream of customers coming in and filling the 7 or so tables. Since the cafe is located in a rock climbing gym the kids loved watching the climbers. When you have little kids you definitely want them entertained during a meal. Customer service couldn't have been better. Friendly and helpful. Continuously checking if we needed anything and clearing the plates we were already finished with. We will be back and frequently. If they keep it up they will need to expand. Make sure to check them out soon. You'll be glad you did. read more

This place was as advertised on yelp. Amazing burger, probably one of the best and most unique ones I've ever had. I got the Shar-warma burger which I was recommended by the guy at the counter. It was fantastic! Great feta cheese, Tzatziki & garlic chili sauces, and banana peppers. The best part to me was the bun! They are English muffin style that are made there! The guys working were very nice and refilled our drinks when they were low even though is was a counter service place. They have good selections of hot sauces and sriracha ketchup for the fries! Came here last Friday for a quick burger with my husband. We both ordered different ones and were extremely happy with the quality and overall taste of our burgers. I think mine was the classic- it was HUGE and absolutely delish. Will definitely be back when I get another burger craving. read more

Only got the burger so not sure about the pizzas yet. Foods good, if a bit pricey ($10 at the very least) Atmosphere is great with the cafe next to a bunch of rock climbing walls. Only open 11-4pm and the address puts you on the wrong side of Louetta and 1/3 a mile away. It's inside the inSPIRE Rock gym. read more

I see why their burgers ranked in the top 10 in the USA. The two we tried we everything you want in a burger. Big flavor, juicy, fresh. The pizza was good but not our favorite, fresh, hand tossed, stone oven. Just something "off" in my opinion. Just don't try to rock climb AFTER the burger. read more

This places a hidden gem!!! We only stopped by because we were on our way to corkscrew bbq and it had closed for the day. I had the farmhouse burger with blue cheese fries. My wife had the old smokey burger. Not only were the burgers out of this world you could tell the chef puts his all into his dishes as the presentation was perfect. My kids had the pizza and I honestly would go back for a pizza as well. Everything that is ordered here is freshly made. They cook their food in a fire oven. Both of the burgers were awesome and 5 star in my opinion. This place is now at the top of my must eat in the local woodlands area. Well done chef! read more

Pretty cool place to stop for lunch on your work day. It is in a rock climbing gym, so definitely a different atmosphere! Tables are tiny and we squeezed four people, but we could not have had another person. Food was good, but a little on the expensive side for what you get. I'd visit again if I were in the area. read more

I mostly review based on food, unless the place is just really that bad.. this place is inside of a rock climbing gym, so it's pretty small! Tight sitting area, but has a few tables. The burgers are really good!! They have a lot of options including pork belly and pesto mayonnaise. You can build your own burger or pick one off the menu. They also have a special burger each month. One time it was a banh mi burger and my husband said it was great! Even the hungriest can sometimes only finish half their burger, so you may wanna split if it's just you and another person. Their pizza is also good, too. The workers are nice and you surprisingly don't feel horrible about yourself stuffing your face while people rockclimb. read more

Great staff and fantastic food. Had the Caprese appetizer and the ratatouille pizza. The pizza was perfect, not greasy and heavy like many restaurants serve in the area. The balsamic vinegar on the Caprese was perfect. Had the ginger peach tea as well. Would highly recommend all three items. read more

Awesome! You get so much goodness from such an unassuming little place. It's a cafe tucked into the corner of an indoor rock climbing place. Customer service is great. The staff is friendly and the young man at the counter made great suggestions. My hubby and I ordered two burgers to split. So when our food came out the nice lady kindly explained that she'd cut the burgers in half and put a half of each burger on each order which was very thoughtful. Because I waited so long to complete my review I can't remember exactly which burgers we had. But what I do remember is that it was served on this DELICIOUS homemade bun (they tell me it was an English muffin) that had the perfect crannies to absorb the delectable sauce that they put on the bun. It was soooo awesome to have a bun to grab the sauce before it fell off the burger... I just hate when I have to sop up my condiments because they dripped off the bun. And the fries were scrumptious. I think I need to go back... right now... and get a burger! read more

Spring is very lucky to have this eatery. The price is very reasonable which is one of the major reason why I love this eatery. It's difficult to find great restaurant that is reasonably price. My favorite dish here is their pizza. The pizza crust is hands down the best in Spring/Woodlands. Yes, even better than Crust and Grimaldi's Pizzeria. I only wish they would open a standalone restaurant rather part of the inSPIRE Rock Indoor as seating is extremely limited. read more

I've been here several times and tried several of their burgers I know they serve other stuff too and the pizza is supposed to be great, but I just can't stop eating the burgers. The staff has always been super friendly and helpful too. Pro tip: You can ask for extra garlic on the fries and it's wonderful. read more

Dropped by and had their avocado bacon burger. Didn't take too long for it to come out. I was not disappointed. The patty was well seasoned and the garlic was outstanding. The fries were plenty and very tasty. My roommate had the farmhouse burger. He enjoyed it except he believed that the choice of English muffin style bun wasn't substantial enough to hold the burger as it fell apart after 2 bites. He also loved the fries. Will definitely be back to try other items especially the pizzas. read more

My husband and I have dined here multiple times, it's our go-to when we are in the mood for burgers! My top favorites are the shawarma burger and the farmhouse which have been consistently delicious. Husband's favorite choices are the farmhouse as well and the build your own burger option. We love that it's located inside an indoor rock climbing center as it's fun to watch while enjoying our meals. The fruit smoothies here are good and refreshing. We're thrilled to learn they are expanding their cafe section as it is quite small and can get busy at times. Definitely recommend! read more

This is a rock climbing gym. The setting is casual and informal, but the food is not. Someone in there knows what they are doing. My worry was whether or not the 'clique' of rock climbers just got together and rated it highly for their friends, but that cannot be true. My guest and I shared a bison burger and a caprese/bacon/cheese/lettuce wrap which has a better name than this. This is super find, and I'll definitely be back. So nice to find these little gems without having to drive to the Woodlands, Vintage Park or downtown. You'll enjoy this one! read more

Looking for a place to eat on a Monday in old town Spring is not easy, :-) most restaurants are closed that day. I just so happened to search for restaurants and found this one, and I have to say I was shocked. The burgers are delicious. The English muffin bun and white cheddar.... yum. I've found my new pizza joint. This place is fantastic; I love that the pizza crust is different from anything I've tasted... It's light, crispy, and has an almost naan flavor to it. SO TASTY. I original came here because they offered vegan cheese, but I love the variety of toppings and creations they offer as well...ratatouille anyone? My boyfriend got the cheeseburger and said it was very good. To top it off you have the bonus of watching people climb, free entertainment :) read more

WOW, what an unexpected surprise. I came rock climbing g with my kids and had a craft made burger from a fantastic in house restaurant! Get the Shar-warma Burger, it's out of this world! And the homemade bread for those burgers is a new take all together! The chef was there, checked on us, even talked to my wife, who loves baking bread, how to make the amazing bread we ate. LOVE the burgers here! The creativity of each one is delicious! It's hidden, not thinking that there would be a decent restaurant here serving what they serve. 5 Stars on the yumminess...you won't be disappointed and don't let the crowd of cars steer you away....they are those that are utilizing the climbing wall. read more

We are a chef driven stone oven pizza shop with gourmet burgers, sandwiches and a full service coffee bar. We have scratch made sauces, Italian style sourdough crust, fresh ground beef and slow roasted pork belly. We also carry Clean Sweets from a local Gluten Free bakery in the Heights!

History

Established in 2014.

Chef Charlie Williams moved from Savannah GA in 2013 to be part of Inspire Rock Climbing Center. Opening the 5 Ate Cafe as a stand alone restaurant inside Texas' largest climbing gym. Two years in Italy with the navy, ten years in slow cooked southern BBQ and two years working at a French bakery in Atlanta during college all contributed to his culinary interests.

Chef Charlie was the creative cooking force behind the 5.ATE Cafe. Opening in January 2014, this "cozy and comfy" (code words for small) cafe is located inside inSPIRE Rock Indoor Climbing & Team Building Center. Yelp lists 5 Ate as Vegan. I don't see any way on the menu to determine which things are vegan. I'm sure the salads are. The only thing I see listed as being vegan is a specific cheese. Anyone know where to find more info?

FYI: Yelp! lists 5.Ate as Pizza and Burgers, not vegan. 5.Ate may be able to cobble something vegan together (substitute a veggie patty for beef), but there is nothing on the menu that is specifically vegan. Give them a call.

You also get a veggie pack with your to-go burger which has chopped lettuce, pickles, raw onions and 2 slices of tomatoes. That's nice so you don't have to put on the required latex gloves to use their veggie bar to get these yourselves. It's in a separate bag. I thought this was the buger at first and was secretly getting a bit concerned when I saw the cook toss it onto the counter like a bean bag. The cashier was super nice. He offered me water as I waited. They had another guy working in the back cooking the food. You also get a thimble of ketchup in your Togo bag along with a packet of mustard and mayo. The bun was a little burnt. And I couldn't taste any of the mixed in jalapeños. Also I kinda wish they had whole lettuce rather than chopped just because it kept falling out of the burger. But other than these issues the burger was pretty tasty. Definitely not a McDonald's burger like one person posted. But also not the best burger ever as many other posters swear by. Definitely glad I went. But don't know if I'd be willing to spend another $20 on one of their Burgers either. They're closed on Sundays according to Google maps which is old school nice to see.

Maybe that 3rd B in their name (after Burgers and Beer) stands for Bucks, as in beaucoup bucks. 1 pool table in back. A patio. Plenty of TVs. Staff was nice. Sunday's pork chop dinner for $19 is regularly priced at $42, for example. (Please see my photo of the daily specials board.) That said, this former bordello does have some downsides, which I need to mention: First, it is too loud -- nothing sound-absorbing in the place, and the jazz music recording was turned up the day we were there. This caused communication problems with the waiter, who misheard me, and I really couldn't hear what he was saying. This is not an intimate spot for deep conversations. Second, parking is a challenge. No parking lot. There are some spaces across the street along the railroad tracks, but not enough. I parked on the other side of the tracks and hiked over the rails, but that is a little dangerous. There are some $ 5-a-day parking lots up the road. Is the pork chop better than Perry's? I liked the mashed potatoes, and the meat was properly prepared for sure, but the seasoning was not exactly right for me -- I think they added cinnamon, though my wife thinks it was allspice, and a hint of sugar. An East Texas sort of flavor--I prefer Perry's. But a close second for sure. Allec, I can't find your card, so I know I am spelling your name wrong, but you were a great waiter, and so I am giving this shack a 5.

I was so full from the gyro that I only ate one of the potatoes but didn't think it was very lemony at all. Customer service was excellent the entire time and they will even come to your table and take your plate away as if they are full service, which they aren't . I also ordered a slice of coconut cream pie, or at least that's what they said it was. It had no cream in it and appeared to be a coconut custard pie not that different than the one I make at home. It was delicious as well.

The blue fin tuna tostados were delightful and hands down the best dish we had. Ceviche mixto was excellent with a just a hint of heat. I would order these two appetizer dishes again. Main courses consisted of duck 2 ways, redfish with green mole and risotto, spring cavatelli, and grilled shrimp & pork belly. All were delicious and uniquely tasty with the exception of the duck. Mind you, I really like duck and the sliced portions were excellent and perfectly seasoned and moist, but the pate-like accompaniment was not that good, plus the mole sauce was not what I was expecting. Table sides of Brussels sprouts and fried cauliflower were good but nothing special. The Eton Mess with strawberries was simply delicious. Would I go back? Maybe, but not anytime soon.

My friend stays near Washington and we wanted a quick dinner before flying out so we put in an order through yelp for pickup. An e-mail told us the food would be ready anywhere from 10-30 minutes so we left about 15 minutes after we placed the order. While we were driving we got a call from an outside party stating that they couldn't reach the restaurant and couldn't guarantee that the restaurant received our order. When we got there I asked them and luckily they were in the process of finishing up the order so I waited on the side. We ordered the chicken pupu plate and the longislog (flipino sausage) rice plate which came with an egg roll and garlic rice. They were both pretty good and I loved the flavorful garlic rice. I used to eat flip n patties a lot back in the day when they were in the parking lot of Marquis and I remember their egg rolls being larger than they are now but they were still good. Overall, the food here is solid and unique because there isn't much filipino food in Houston. I definitely would order from them again if I'm hanging out at Lincoln, however, we ended up waiting a total of 45-50 minutes for our food from the time of order and that's a little long for a pick-up order. read more

I would like to put this little guy next to my cheek to nuzzle it; little soft bun, perfectly wrapped up little package of quality goodness. Cute ass little toothpick with a burger flag on it, you left me craving some more. Dare I say In-n-Out but better? Fries are super crispy, warm crunchy compliment to the cutest burger I've ever seen. Grilled onions, fresh greens, not too much sauce- didn't even miss the cheese. Burger lords indeed, had it for lunch and considered it again for dinner. read more

The cafe inside this rock climbing gym is pretty sweet. You will enjoy the food here. It does take some time for the food to get to because they hand make it fresh per order. I enjoyed the burger/ salad combo which I definitely would drive back just for this! The only Con I have for this place is they do not wipe down when guest leave. They just let the dirty table sitting there for 30 to 45 mins or until somebody asked them to clean the table. read more

This is a fantastic place! The food is delicious and genuine. Before covid, I used to eat at the restaurant because the service was always excellent. I now buy from them once a week for delivery, and the food never disappoints. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to bringing my friends here! read more

I was trying to find a good restaurant nearby, and this is definitely one of the best places. The fast food is delicious and the price is inexpensive. I also tried their strawberry smoothie and it was delicious. Great place to go at weekends and with family. Love it. read more
