Taking Gym Food to New Heights I've been a regular at 5.ATE Café for over two years, and the Climb & Dine event tonight finally pushed me to write this review. My son, our friends, and I tried everything on the menu -- and it was all fantastic. The pizza is always a standout, but the special pumpkin and burrata pizza they made for the event was truly unforgettable. Every dish was thoughtful and delicious, from the sliders to the PBJ taco, all served by a team that is always skilled, friendly, and clearly passionate about their craft. 5.ATE Café may be tucked inside a climbing gym, but the food is on a whole different level. Scratch-made sauces, homemade sourdough English muffin buns, and a consistently creative kitchen make this place a real treasure north of Houston. If you're climbing at inSPIRE or in the area, do yourself a favor and eat here. But honestly, even if you're far away or afraid of heights, it's worth the time and the drive! read more

i was just searching the web for good burgers to eat around me and this place was listed as a go to place. well my wife and I stopped in and was a little nervous because of the rock climbing place was right next to it and I was concerned about people walking barefooted in front of me as I ate well that's just me. so I went ahead a ordered the basic burger and took the other vision out of my mind. the place to eat is small but we were there at around 2 so we had a place to eat. they have a good menu and the prices are reasonable. the burger came in and BAM good stuff. we will return for the pizza. the place was clean and even the restroom was clean. the service was good. if you looking for a different type of spot to eat we'll try this and the food will not disappoint you. read more

I was looking for a place to dine in this area of town with a friend, and this popped up as an option. Thought I would try it out. Imagine my surprise when I arrived, to learn that this place is actually a small open cafe inside of a rock climbing facility. Despite that, we decided to stay and give it a try. The menu lists an array of burgers, sandwiches, and pizzas along with flavored teas. They're some unique and tasty sounding combinations. Also present is a coffee bar for your espresso needs. At the counter, I ordered a burger with goat cheese, arugula, bacon, and bacon jam. It sounded like an interesting combination. Went with the salad instead of fries for my side. You get a choice of either. The burger itself was pretty good though on the small size. The bun really stood out because it looked almost like a biscuit crossed with an English muffin. I realized they must make their buns out of bread they use for pizza dough. While on the denser side, it worked pretty well with the burger patty and toppings. The salad was fresh and light, similar to a Greek salad. It was kinda fun watching the climbers do their thing. While we were dining, several other patrons in office work attire came in and also ordered from the cafe to dine in, with little interest in the rock climbing. Why 3 stars? Because our food was okay but it's nice to have a legitimate restaurant inside of a rock climbing studio. --- --- --- Most rock climbing studios probably don't even have a cafe in them, and if they did, they certainly wouldn't be a destination restaurant. When we moved to the area, I bookmarked all highly rated restaurants in the area and this was one of them. It wasn't until I seriously considered going that I found out where it was located. So while I was pretty excited to eat from such a unique place, I was a bit disappointed that everything was fairly average. I ordered the farmhouse burger and my wife went with the Italian pizza. Neither was bad but neither was impressive enough for me to feel like I ever needed to visit again. Unless, of course, we are at the rock climbing studio and work up an appetite. read more

So, my first time was so good, I had to return ASAP! Burger overload, ready set go! I return a week or so later, same fabulous burger, same side salad filled with loads of fresh cheese & better than iceberg REAL nutritional lettuce. This time I try the balsamic dressing though, OH MY, talk about top notch restaurant quality bursting tangy, tart, sweet, flavor. Wow, I could just eat the dressing alone. Needless to say just like the first time I devoured every bite of that burger & salad. Just so satisfying. And this time I was able to meet a new server, Melanie, she was amazing & she's a Mel too, double plus. The cook which you can actually see from the ordering counter sends a nice smile from the back also. Pretty sure I'll be a new regular here! FYI don't forget your tip money, they deserve it. Burger with a side of fries plus extra cost to change the type of fries. What did I get? 8 tater tots. 8. Is this really the size of a side plus the extra paid to upgrade the type of fry? I'm not usually the one to complain about portion sizes but this is quite a rip off. We all know very well the cost of potatoes and the cost of a bag of frozen potato. A tad cheap on their end. Also ordered sweet potato fries and this was more of what I expected the size of a side being. Chicken salad, wasn't expecting anything fancy here. Chicken wasn't dry so that's a perk. As for the quantity, I guess this is how they make money too. This looks like a salad I make at home on a daily and it cost me 1/8 the price. Granted I'm paying for it to be made for me and packaging supplies. Overall, the food wasn't bad, it was moreso the quantity to price ratio. I shouldn't have needed to spend $40 here to be satisfied for one meal. Especially if there was nothing special to it. I'm all about spending $25 on a fancy burger or $300 on tiny portions of fancy for but I'm not about spending a lot on an average Joe. read more

It's been a little while since I've eaten here, and I happened to notice the Hueco Tanks burger this time. I'm a huge fan of green chiles, so I had to try it, and I'm so glad I did! I savored each bite! When I was done, I wished that I had another one ready to eat. Such an amazing burger! The crispy patty smothered in pepper jack cheese is just the start. Past that, the green chiles are perfectly placed and there are some other great things in there as well. One of the things that I'm generally not a fan of is the bun, bc it seems to be an afterthought to the burger, but this one was complimentary and delicious. It appeared to me to be a cornbread bun! I never would have thought to do that. Full disclosure: I declined the jalapeño ranch, because I don't do white and creamy, but if you do, I'm sure that it only enhances the flavor. We have the rock climbing gym membership, and we grab a bite to eat here after our climbs regularly. Everything we have ordered from the menu has been awesome, and their pizza is by far the best in the area. My husband is a fan of the buffalo chicken and bacon with blue cheese, and I love the red, white, and green. My favorite burger so far is the classic. The use of housemade English muffins instead of traditional buns is the best. Fries are always nice and crispy. It's a small cafe, and service is always great. Ambiance is laid-back, and it's fun to observe other climbers while you eat. read more

Yes, it is inside of a rock climbing gym. This place makes a mean burger! The farmhouse burger was made to perfection and was an explosion of flavors. Nothing was too overwhelming so it was great. I got the Cajun fries, I'd probably go with plain fries next time, because I couldn't finish them all with the seasoning on it due to how much the burger stuffed me. I got a pizza to go, WOW! You can taste the freshness of the pizza! All of the ingredients taste fresh! Even if you're not into rock climbing, visit the cafe like I did for lunch! It's worth it! read more

Went to 5 Ate this past week. It truly is a hidden gem. Nestled inside a rock climbing facility. Perfect for working up an appetite. So I go in there and say "I heard you make really good burgers" and they responded with a smile and nodded to the trophies by the register. All right! So I ordered the Hueco Tanks and added fresh jalapeños. Man! This burger was so good. To say it hit the spot is not giving it credit. It hit all the spots. This burger was cooked perfectly. I washed it down with this awesome sweet ginger peach tea. Holy moly that was good too! The staff working behind the counter are all awesome! I'm coming back for more! Y'all gotta try this place. Love that this place is in my climbing gym. Super convenient and it always smells so good. I've been here twice so I'm doing a review to cover both experiences. Burgers ordered were farmhouse burger, rosemary ranch, mushroom, and kale. First thing I have to say is that the first time I came, the burgers were cooked nicely at a nice Medium: Juicy, little pink, just like I like them. The second time I came, they were dry, tough, and full on brown. I've only been twice so I don't know if this was an off-day or it's a hit or miss. That being said, I love the variety of burgers they offer as well as the variety of sides. There are tons to choose from and the burger toppings are all quite different. Even though the second time my burger was more done than I would like, it still was good due to the toppings being so good. Even the sides range from a house/greek salad fusion to sweet potato fries, regular fries, garlic fries, etc. Farmhouse and rosemary ranch (Monthly special) were the two better ones of the 4 but all the burgers are pretty good. I appreciate the large variety of sauces at their sauce bar: hot sauces, ketchup, mayo, mustard, sriracha ketchup, etc. Also, I appreciate how their side salad isn't just iceberg lettuce. It's a spring mix with feta cheese and cherry tomatoes. I will definitely be back and hope that I can get more experiences like my first, with the meat being juicy. But even with a bit overdone patty, the burger was quite tasty. Will re-review if I can constantly get that juicy patty consistently. read more

I help manage a big IT project nearby with 25 consultants from all over the US and, as their host, I finally convinced them to eat at a rock gym. Burgers at 5ATE are worth the climb. The Farm House burger is now my go to. It's a beast and packed full of flavor. Inside you'll find a nice serving of slow roasted pork belly, "cafe sauce", pickles, sharp cheddar cheese, veggies, (and wait for it...) fried egg! For $14.07 (after tax), I thought it was a bit over priced, even with a small side salad, but that all changed after I bit into it. All the flavors complimented each other so well. The meat patty was tender and juicy, the pork belly was savory, the sauce was on point, and that egg... perfection. For gourmet burgers, 5ATE has it down. TIP: It's a really messy burger because of the fried egg. If you prefer not to have yolk leaking, you can ask for the egg to be fried medium hard. Service was great. The person behind the cash register was nice and polite. Everyone seemed like they were in a good mood which makes for a happier atmosphere. Did I forget to mention they are a rock climbing gym? Haha. I only came here for dinner so I haven't tried their walls yet but I plan on it! The wall climbing trails look endless and appear to range from beginners to experienced. All right when they said eat at inside of rock climbing gym. I really had my doubts. Looking at the reviews before I go again I had my doubts. I pull in the parking lot and walk through the gym and saw the cafe so is not hard to find. The place has limited spaces, so big parties is not a good idea. I ordered the mushroom burger and it was terrific. The bun is a bit different. Different in a good way. Sort like a English muffin but a bit softer. It is hard to describe, but the bun was good none the less. The burger was very juicy and delish. Also they have pizza for those of you want to something different other hamburgers. OK this place is yum and the staff top notch. I would go back and try more of the stuff. read more

My boyfriend and I visited 5 Ate today after I did a search for burgers around here. I barely ever see such high ratings, so I knew I couldn't pass it up. He got a bacon burger, I got a classic. We also wanted to try the pizza since it was our first time. That and two waters came out to right about $30. Not bad at all. Of course the atmosphere is interesting; being able to eat next to the towering spires at the back of the building with nimble folks scrambling up and down the walls is cool! Food came out reasonably fast, about ten minutes. The burgers are juicy and flavorful, served on english muffin buns. The fries are made to order so they come out piping hot and seasoned well. The pizza is great! The sauce shines through and although it's floppy and you have to hold it with two hands, the ends of the crust are nice and crispy. But it simply isn't the best. I feel that you should reserve that 5 star mark for the restaurants you would eat at every day of the week, if given the chance. The bottom line is, I have had better pizza, and I have had better burgers. If someone were to say they wanted to do something fun and eat good food under the same roof, 5 Ate is at the top of my list. But if someone were to say they were jonesing for a pizza or a burger, 5 Ate wouldn't even come to mind. read more

Really enjoyed trying this place. And no, I'm not a rock climber and you don't have to be either . I tried the Farmhouse burger and was in heaven. Fresh, moist burger topped with cheddar cheese, pork, and a fried egg... wasn't sure it sounded good, worried it would be too messy, but decided to throw caution to the wind and try it. This burger was a medley of Yum and try not to moan out loud cuz it's just so good. Yes it was messy, but worth every napkin for finger and hand clean up after eating every scrumptious bite. Pretty legit burger spot in the most unusual place. You can't help but watch all the climbers while devouring a burger. I ordered the farmhouse and found it to be very flavorful with a house-made muffin (for the bun), a freshly ground angus beef patty (which was actually a few small rectangular chunks of beef), roasted pork belly, fried egg, white onion, lettuce, tomato and their special cafe sauce. It was quite delicious. I added a fry basket for $3, but if you want a smaller amount of fries, it's only $2 extra. The fries did not taste freshly cut, but they were still decent. Basically if you're craving a burger in the Spring area, you should definitely check this little café out (inside the rock gym) and experience their "gourmet" burgers. My only complaint is that the burger is a little on the small side, since I prefer my burgers to be around 1/2 lb or more. You will need to add a patty if you are hungry and want more beef ($4 more). They also have artisan pizzas, sandwiches, a salad and coffee type drinks if you don't want a burger. If you are a fan of hot sauces, they carry about 30 different hot sauce bottles behind the register that you can take to your table and add to whatever you like. I recommend the ghost pepper-habanero sauce that is made by Hot Line Products out of Spring, TX (to dip your fries in since the fries are a bit starchy). So I have always passed by this place for years and FINALLY had the chance to dine! I was very impressed by the creative burgers on the menu, the fire flames pizza oven and extensive beverage menu! I ordered the Avocado Butter Bacon burger with turkey instead of beef (in lieu of maintaining my "girlish summer figure ) and I added a fried egg for an additional $1! The (well done) fries pictured are garlic buttered, that could have used more garlic flavor infused in the butter) but I also had them add a side or Cajun seasoning because I couldn't decide on whether I wanted garlic butter or Cajun!
