It's not quite like the heavier clothing like sweaters and such that come with the shops like this in northern states and that is perfectly understandable as Austin and Texas is pretty warm country all of the time. So you will see some really cool short sleeve button down shirts here for men. There is a good selection of those here. And to stay even more comfortable than that there is a lot of goth or horror inspired t shirts Herr which are cool because the selection is considerable. I got a Secret Oktober t shirt just to have the bragging rights to say I was there after coming home to Washington state along with a very nice wallet with lurid colors on leopard print which I was thrilled to acquire. So yes, this was a really cool stop and I'm glad we made our way here. A lot of these kinds of shops in different cities are in eclectic and quirky neighborhoods or blocks... it's not quite the same here as Secret Oktober is in a typical strip mall area, making it the only cool place worth stepping into.

Second Looks is clearly his baby: he's not just an attentive consultant, responding to your preferences on house, material, and tailoring (thankfully, he is not hesitant to offer his excellent suggestions on fit and styling), he's also a gentleman and a scholar, eager to share his considerable knowledge about the history of menswear, soul music, and rodeo, having been a cowboy himself before working in radio and taking over Second Looks. Michael's selection is fantastic. he showed me suits and separates from Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece, Drake's, Canali, and local Austin bespoke tailors Capra and Cavelli. He's got Allen Edmonds shoes and a great collection of belts, which seem to go very quickly. I didn't peruse his selection of casualwear, but it seemed just as well-curated and complete as his formal sections. I walked out with a Golden Fleece jacket and alligator belt having spent about $115--he gave me the educator discount. I couldn't have asked for better value. Having lived in Boston, Cleveland, Charleston, SC, Eugene, OR, Granada, Spain, and Norwich, England, I've never been so impressed by a menswear shop, let alone a secondhand store, or by its owner. Since I was there solo, and carrying a lot of my own stuff, I asked the fitting room attendant if he could help me if sizes weren't wrong. He did this two separate times and was lovely throughout the whole experience! I decided to go with a different top as the one pictured, and in the wrong size, but I needed that denim crop. I'l probably eventually sell it but the green skirt is going to be one of my new staples for sure The other store attendant who helped me with the shirt/not a skirt debacle ended up being the one at the cash register and gave me a big shopping tote to fit my new clothes, and the personal belongings I couldn't fit inside my North Face backpack.
