Crab cake with mashed potatoes and asparagus
    Kristen E.

Hubby and I needed dinner on short notice one Thursday evening and were delighted to find that 424 Walnut had a table available. The staff were friendly, the menu was varied, and we were soon tucking into a bowl of Italian sausage soup (him) and the crab cake entree with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The Dijon sauce and house Moscato were excellent touches. No room for dessert, unfortunately. Didn't try the restrooms. Street parking.

Always love this cutie little venue. I must say I have always liked everything I have ordered. I was just there last night because another restaurant would not seat us for another hour. The Penguins were playing and it seemed when we arrived a ladies group or large family had come in and most restaurants here on Mondays are closed so Tuesday can be busy if no reservations not to mention a game. Rick was awesome (recommend him), and as a group we got to try a little bit of everything on the menu. Timing between courses and deserts, drinks and busy tables was great.

This was not our first pick for dinner on Friday night but it was wonderful. The restaurant was packed but we got lucky with getting a table. We had the mussels appetizer...good not great. I would have loved some garlic bread with them. But our dinners were wonderful! We both had risotto, and I had scallops and my husband had chicken. Both had sooo much flavor and were great portion sizes.

My mom took me here for dinner a few weeks ago. She had been here before and said it was delicious. Well, she wasn't wrong. We started with some drinks at the bar while we were waiting for our table. We had arrived a little early and the owner was going to move some things around to seat us but we said we'd love to hang at the bar for a bit. The bar had such a cozy feel. I had the jackfrost and my mom had the fall sangria. Both delicious. The owner came over about 10 minutes later to let us know our table was ready. Our server was a wonderful young lady whose name is escaping me. She provided some great suggestions for the menu, she checked on us regularly and we wound up having a great conversation with her towards the end of the meal. We realized that my mom had a connection to the owner, so she brought him over and he was just as lovely, chatting with my mom. We had the beans and greens as an appetizer, excellent flavor and the sausage in it was so delicious! I had the salmon stuffed with crab...so flavorful! My mom had the double pork chop and said it was the very best pork chop she's ever had. Not to mention our meals came with a baked potato and mine also had asparagus. It was quite a large portion for the price, we both took leftovers home. We ended with the homemade bread pudding. This was some of the best bread pudding I've ever had, comparable to what you'd get in New Orleans. This was just one of those unexpected gems. The owner of this place also owns an Italian restaurant a few doors down, Mambo Italia. I can't wait to check it out!

I really enjoyed eating out at a nice spot! I'm new to the area and Sewickley is definitely a place I want to come back to! I found a spot right out front, super lucky! And we had reservations so we were seated right away. We ordered a bottle of wine and each of us ordered a steak. The steak was beautifully cooked. Only thing is it needed just a touch of seasoning. Because of Covid, no salt or pepper on the table and I definitely could have asked but it truly felt like I would have offended the chef by asking so I didn't! The other really weird this was that when we first came in, they took our temperatures and it looked like they were providing ample space between customers and then, with empty tables, they sat a party of three right next to us. I was really surprised by that, it didn't seem like the best move. It was a really nice meal and I would happily go back any time!

Red snapper with jumbo lump crabmeat and sautéed spinach

Cozy, welcoming, lively atmosphere with excellent food and service. That's what you'll get when you visit 424 Walnut. I had the red snapper with lump crabmeat and opted for sautéed spinach (in lieu of baked potato)- this was a fantastic combination. The stuffed banana peppers were perfectly spicy and stuffed generously. The beans and greens were cooked well but needed a touch more salt to bring them to my taste. My only regret was that I had no room for the toasted coconut pie. So I'll have to return sooner than later.

This is by far our favorite restaurant. Everything from the staff to the location to the decor is high class. We always feel at home here with amazing dishes and personable conversations. My advice to you is don't skimp on trying the menu! Get an app, get a meal, get the dessert and try the drinks! All are wonderful. Everything tastes authentic and comes in large portions. If there were 10 stars, we would rate it a 10! At times you can get away with out making a reservation, but if I were to recommend this restaurant to a friend or family, I would recommend you secure your spot and get one. Don't wait! Try this spot if you haven't already!

I understand that there is no exact script that I should expect to have followed from one server to another when dining out . Some tend to be more welcoming, and friendlier, than others. Totally understood that serving others can be unpleasant from time to time. However, what I do not like to see or experience, from a server, is one who is not very welcoming, and appears disinterested with the table of patrons being served. The service received today falls into this category. I have had more enthusiastic service at McDonald's. Today's service fell short for the following reasons or voids. Not greeting your customers. Not taking the beverage order within a reasonable amount of time . ( Avoid reacting negatively when alcohol is not chosen) Do not act annoyed if you are asked to repeat the descriptions of today's specials. No apology for a seemingly soiled napkin that was asked to be replaced. Not following up with your table to see if anything else was needed . No offer for desserts, more water etc.. Service was the ho hum of my 1st outing here. Bare basic. However, food, atmosphere, portion size, and dining companions were fantastic with a capital F. I honestly cannot wait to return, but I certainly hope it will be with a more in- tune server.

You'll be required to find street parking, with the most convenient options being to pay for a parking space on the street nearby. (There is also free street parking but you may have to drive around a bit to find a open spot) We had a table of 6 dining here around 5pm on a Friday. We met part of our group there, and they were already seated, so I don't believe waiting for a table was an issue (even for a party of 6). Once seated, our waiter was prompt and attentive and we also had who I assume to be a manager check-in with us. So no complaints about service. Our waiter took our drink order, appetizer order, food order and provided refills on drinks promptly/reasonably. All of our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals but my wife had the shrimp fajita and I had the rodeo burger (without BBQ sauce, I just wasn't in the mood for BBQ sauce but all of the other toppings sounded yummy - Gouda cheese, bacon, crispy fried onion, and chipotle aioli). Both are pictured. Overall, I'd recommend going here if you aren't bothered by street parking. The service, atmosphere, and food were solid.

She offered to make a chocolate martini I said ok that sounded good. My husband ordered a beer. Two minutes later. The waitress came back, and asked what we wanted to order. We were so confused . We ordered again acting like she didn't just take our order 2 minutes ago. I actually ended up changing my order and asked if they had a "house" pilot grigio. She said yes. She asked if we were going to order food and we said just drinks tonight. 5 minutes pass and she brings a large appetizer to our table. I said we didn't order this. She asked if we talked about it though . We said "no" we were never ordering food. I was so taken back by this experience I wanted to cash out after our drinks. I headed to the bar and asked for our bill. We were going to leave cash and leave because the whole situation was very uncomfortable. (Thinking 20 would be enough for the drinks and tip) We finally get the bill and the house wine is on there along with the beer. The total was $37 for 2 drinks. How can a house wine be $17 for a glass? As we left, the whole situation didnt sit right with me. I called later to ask how much a glass of house wine was and the person that answered stated $9.

I was hungry, but I was also anxious to get home after a long day. I walked in and ordered a craft draft beer and placed an order for a burger to go. Sidelines has a great selection of craft drafts, so I give that part of their pub 5 stars! Their fresh cut fries are also delicious, and deserve a 5-star review! That said, the burger was big but just okay in flavor. What bothered me most is that when I looked at my bill, they tacked on an extra $1 for a "to go" order. $1 isn't going to make or break someone, and I understand an extra charge if someone just orders food to go. In my case, I was a sit-down customer with the beer while I was waiting for a burger and fries in a bag. I guess if I had ordered on a plate, I could have taken a few bites at my seat and then asked for a to go container for my leftovers? I just felt as though I was not appreciated as a customer. They can have the $1, but I most likely will avoid this place going forward. I just don't get the rationale behind charging a customer extra money even if they order a pricey adult beverage enjoyed at a table or bar.

We're all young women in our 20s who have each worked as servers for years, so we understand how hard it can be and are incredibly patient and respectful. But this was just out of hand. A real life nightmare! worst server ever! I've never left a Yelp review until this one! First of all, it took forever for our server to even acknowledge our table. The appetizers took at least 30 minutes. Our entrées took OVER an hour. Then one meal still came out 15 minutes after the rest of us had already been served. Mind you, it was NOT BUSY AT ALL! We ordered 6 wings and she put in 12, and charged us for all 12. We ordered a side of ranch and she charged me for THREE cups of ranch. Like no one asked for all that. We also asked for celery with the wings and never got it. The food was a disaster. My meal and my sister's came out ice cold and nasty...and my friend's meal came out 15 minutes after ours. Also, I ordered waffle fries, but they forgot them, gave me my friend's regular fries instead (which were also ice cold), and my actual waffle fries didn't arrive until my friend's meal came out 15 minutes after ours. The service somehow got even worse once the food arrived. She would not refill anything! Not even water! We were dying of thirst for 30 minutes. When we asked for water DURING the meal, we didn't receive it until about 45 minutes later, after we had already PAID THE BILL. WORST PART-- We sat there with food in front of us for about 10 minutes just staring at it, because SHE NEVER BROUGHT silverware. She was nowhere to be found! When we politely asked if we could have some so we could actually eat, she had the nerve to joke, "No, you can't." It wasn't funny. Dead silence. We waited 1.5 hours and were tired and hungry. It was just another example of how little she seemed to care about doing her job. What made the entire experience even more frustrating was the complete lack of accountability. Mistake after mistake after mistake, and it took about ten inconveniences before she finally managed to force out the word "sorry" at the VERY END when we were signing the bill, just trying to revive her tip. She came across as lazy, inconsiderate, and like someone who absolutely hates her job. I don't know her name, but she was heavy-set, wore a trucker hat, brown ponytail, and large hoop earrings. And to top it all off, there were ants everywhere. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. Between the outrageous wait times, cold food, incorrect orders, unnecessary charges, terrible service, and ants crawling around, there's absolutely no reason to spend your money here.

I enjoyed my pisco sour from Peru. We loved my husband's raspberry mojito (Besito de mora). My skirt steak with homemade chimchurri was like butter. So tender and delicious! It made me happy reminiscing about my time in Argentina when I studied abroad there. My husband enjoyed his lomo saltado (filet mignon with stewed tomatoes, rice and delicious fries). The churros were so crunchy and cinnamony with dulce de leche (caramel) inside. The food was phenomenal and so was the service. I decided to order the Lomo Saltado, which I hadn't had in Pittsburgh. The dish had tender well seasoned filet mignon plus skinny fries and couscous. It's a reflection of Chinese influence on Peruvian culinary . I really enjoyed it. Chef Julio stopped by to say which was lovely. We chatted a little bit about moving from California to Pittsburgh. Nice to hear that he settled in nicely with his family and is happy to call Pittsburgh home. Jenny, his wife, was also helping that evening. It was a pleasure speaking with them. I was surprised to receive a corkage fee of $15 without proper communication.
