Was visiting Lumpkin, GA for a few days and decided to check out the local BBQ. Ordered the rib dinner which came with baked beans and tater salad and a slice of bread. The ribs had a nice smokey flavor and good barbecue sauce. The sauce had me licking fingers after finishing each rib bone. The baked beans and tater salad were very good as well. Looking for a bbq joint as we were passing thru on Hwy 27 and this place was less than a mile away. Stopped for lunch and tried a 3/4 lb pork sandwich. One word- yuk. Crock pot chopped pork already sauced. It was a large sandwich and maybe the whole thing weighed 3/4 lb, not 3/4 lb of meat. Not smokey like bbq should be. Not worth the $9+ price. This is a great stop if you are in the area hiking Providence Canyon. We completed our hike on a Sunday morning, and this was one of the only spots that was open. We caught them with just the right amount of time to eat before their 3 pm closing time. The restaurant is in a converted home, and the seating is in a large, open entry way. They have a window to the outside porch that they use for servicing to-go orders. They also have outdoor seating on the porch (alongside a large smoker) in case you spend to much time at the base of the canyon, playing in the mud. Shirts and shoes are required and they ask that you clean your hiking boots if you are eating inside. You can purchase one of their "our butts smell good" t-shirts if you want a souvenir. The spot appears to be family-owned and frequented by visiting hikers and local families. The menu consists of standard barbecue fare. My family and I all opted for pulled pork options (sandwiches and plates). Flavor was smoky and peppery, with a hint of vinegar. Cole slaw and baked beans were great. Because of our morning hike, we splurged and ordered dessert. The key lime pie was a fantastic sweet and tangy finish. It was quick, affordable and very filling after the morning's physical exertion. After hiking gorgeous Providence Canyon the park staff said this place had good boiled peanuts. Boiled peanuts are my new vice. Addicting like crack. I bought a basket for $4 plus tax. This place looks like it doubles as their home. Super friendly place with deer head mounts on the wall. Lumpkin is a really cute and older small town. Support local business. read more

Good small town food. The Brunswick stew was good an smokey but basic. I had the pulled pork on a tater. It was tender and mild, good for my taste. My husband had the rib sandwich and he enjoyed the smoked ribs but they were a bit tough. The restaurant is the first floor of an old home and it appears the owner runs the kitchen and smokers on the front porch. The meat is smoked right there which is great. I would give it 3 1/2 stars if Yelp would let me. Good home cooked food, cute. $24 for two people was a bit high for lunch. read more

This is an excellent barbecue joint. The sides are excellent, and that's how you can tell the good places from everything else. The slaw was as close to perfect, as close to my ideal slaw, as I could hope for. Nice and crisp and fresh, just the right touch of sweetness. Perfection. The beans: excellent. They are seasoned with chopped pork. Exactly what I'm looking for in beans. I had the chopped pork sandwich. It comes sauced, and the sauce is balanced between sweet and tangy just right. I normally wouldn't want my pork sandwich sauced, but in this case, the sauce is excellent, and it does in fact bring out the subtle smoke in the meat. This is as good a barbecue plate as I've had. Fresh sides. Perfect slaw. I mean, I adored the slaw. And a great balanced sauce that complements the smoky pork. Highly recommend you stop here for lunch if you're passing through Lumpkin. read more

We were looking for some good barbecue close to Richland Rum Distillery. We had high hopes when it looked like a mom and pop place, but our hopes were dashed. We would say no way to 4-way. The food was mediocre at best, and prices were double what we normally pay for twice as much better quality food. Owners were in adjoining room watching TV loudly. We stopped here on a Sunday for lunch while driving down 27 on our way to Florida. Its a nice quiet little town, plenty of parking in the rear or on the street. We were excited to try a locally owned BBQ joint in Lumpkin with a great ambiance! However, my friend and I were very disappointed by lunch. I got a chicken sandwich, and was a bit frustrated when the $8 sandwich consisted of only a chicken breast and 2 pieces of bread. The chicken was all right, a little cold, but nothing special. I spent the day hiking in Providence Canyon and stumbled upon this place by accident -- my cellphone GPS recommended it to me (the lady in the review bitching about cell service is full of shit, I have a horrible provider and even I got service). The owner of the place was manning the grill. I watched my food being prepared with the woman who hiked with me. We sat on the porch and ate, and the owner, his other staff member, and a random diner ate with us. They made us feel right at home, talked to us about the town and its history. Water was free, but the drinks we had got free refills. I'm pretty snobby about my barbecue. I know how to make it myself, and I come from a long line of good ol' southern folk who make delicious barbecue. So when I say this food is good, take it for what it's worth. read more

Hiking in Georgia and we come across a cute bbq place, yet the service was anything but. Walked in and was immediately told they were full and that we could only eat outside...uhm okay. We go back outside to a regular house window that she opens and takes our orders. We order ribs...not available and sweet tea that we wait almost 35 minutes for but we actually have to go inside and ask for them because they were just going to serve it with our meal...wtf??? Their sweet tea tasted like crap...So now were sitting outside on a porch in the middle of summer (thank goodness it did not feel too bad outside) and now we are getting harrassed by flies and gnats (we were just on a hike, bugs dont bother us but trying to relax and eat, come on.) Oh also, the grills they use to cook the food has a big can of hot shot roach spray by it...yummy. 40 minutes in and a couple walks up and gets seated inside...i thought there was no seating?!? After waiting 45 minutes for our food, the mysterious window opens and out comes our food...it was okay. A waitress came out once and refilled drinks but never saw her again. When we asked for pie...they had 1 piece for 3 people... Wheres the southern hospitality? Absolutely terrible experience. The bill for two adults and two children came to 78.00...tip not included. You eat out of strofoam box. Do I need to go on? Sure! Outside of the house looks cute....until you enter. You're met with four deer heads on the wall with a creepy stark interior. Apparently this is also the owner's house. Angry smiling face signs are posted to warn you not to enter (This means you! ) You are also further warned on the menu to "keep your comments to yourself" if you don't like the food. As we happened upon the finest dining location in Lumpkin, our group was positively pleased to dine among deer (you'll get it when you get there) and friendly country folk. We found gastronomic delight in the grub with which we were presented, such as the famous butt stuffed tater, savory pulled pork sandwich, and simple but scrumptious coleslaw. And if you're the kind of person who has a hang up about eating squirrel, you'll be relieved to know you can order the Brunswick stew with no concerns. It seems there are always those who can find something to complain about, but our experience with the food, service, prices, and facilities left us with no complaints, only full bellies and happy hearts. Thus, by unanimous vote, we hereby decree this to be a respectable establishment well worth your money and time. When you're driving down the 27 and get hungry this is the place to go. Although seemingly expensive at first, the food is amazing! Remember- your in the middle of no where. Meat falls right off the huge ribs - chicken full of flavor and the pulled pork delicious. Get the sweet tea- bypass the bottled water. Good portions, friendly waitress and amazing aroma.
