One of the things I look forward to when traveling to/through BFE is the oppty to stop into hole in the wall BBQ joint and sampling what's on the menu. Just so happens I was in Dawson and well, the pickings are pretty slim so it's not surprise this place jumped out at me immediately. The name is certainly no lie, it literally looks like a (rundown) farmhouse off the side of the main (?) road through town. Parking is plentiful, assuming you don't mind parking on unpaved and uneven ground. Certainly wasn't an issue the day I visited but I can imagine it'd be a pain if it were raining. Inside there appeared to be plenty of tables inside, along with a couple high tops and an odd bar type space to the right. Ordering was most pretty straight forward, and the girl taking my order was happy to point out the things they didn't have that day (brisket and a host of sides). Regardless, still a pretty decent lineup to order from including ribs, chicken and pork, along with some crazier options I didn't spring for (turkey leg and frog legs!). I ended up getting the rib plate and added a few extra bones, which they were quite accommodating on and just asked how many more I wanted. Taste wise they were quite good, great smoke, pretty meaty and I made quick work of them all. I elected for beans and potato salad for my sides, and while the beans were forgettable, the potato salad was pretty good. The sauce was ok, nothing too fancy and just a basic sauce that I ended up adding a bit of hot sauce to. All in all, a pretty solid place in the middle of nowhere. Don't know when, if ever, I'll be back but I wouldn't hesitate to drop back in again. read more

We decided to try this place considering the reviews and it didn't disappoint. We had the ribs and pulled pork sandwich and both were really good. Their fried green tomatoes were sliced thin which helped keep them crispy. The serving sizes were plentiful and definitely worth the money. I've been waiting almost a year to try the farmhouse but I'm never in town when they are open. Finally, the stars aligned and here I am at 12 noon on a Thursday. It's pretty crowded but seating available. Parking is very limited. There was a line to place your order but it moved quickly. There is one restroom and it was clean. The restaurant itself looks like it was pieces together but I'm pretty sure they planned it that way and it's actually nice and clean. The drinks are self serve with free refills. The guys working the counter were nice and answered any questions I had as a newbie. I ordered a rib plate with okra and stew. The ribs can be served wet or dry. I decided on dry so I could add sauce if needed or left the way they were if flavor was good. They were moist and nicely smoked but the flavor left a little to be desired. So I dipped the meat into the side sauce as I picked off the bone. The stew was actually really good. Lots of meat, good consistency, and some veggies ( no Lima beans thank god ) the fried okra was hot and fresh ! Overall good food and I will definitely visit again if the opportunity arises. read more

I have wanted to try the ribs for a long time but never had time to stop. Today I was passing through and stopped to get a half rack of ribs uncut and wrapped in foil so they would hold till I got home to Leesburg. First of all, I have never seen a half rack of spare ribs with only five bones. Then they were either so overcooked that I could not chew them, or the thicker ribs were greasy and fatty and it was very obvious they were old. Needless to say, my dogs enjoyed their $14.00 snack. I love a good roadside BBQ place. All of the best ones have a good pit going out back that holds the promise of what resides within. This is no exception. I had the Farmhouse dog. "What gives?" You say. A hot dog at a BBQ joint. It was the best way to try a sample of what I wanted. It was a nice grilled dog served in a basket with chili, slaw and BBQ on top. Grilling the dog brings out the flavor of the meat. The chili was a wonderful hot dog chili with a tiny bite to it. The slaw was fresh and cold, crisp, yet creamy. The BBQ was top notch pulled BBQ. Not to be heretical I tried the ribs, too. Maybe the best I have had in a year. Maybe better. Tender, not tough. Juicy, not soggy. So much better than any chain place. The people are friendly and the guests are, too. We talked with a phone guy and he said he eats there regularly. Don't let the exterior looks fool you, it's great eats and very clean. read more

I'm kind of new around here. The Farmhouse has great food! Good variety on the menu. This BBQ place even has fish on the menu! My boyfriend's Mom thought the fish was delicious. We LOVE the BBQ. But my absolute favorite is the fried okra. And if you have a sweet tooth, they have you covered there too. Happy, friendly employees. The absolute BEST roadside BBQ I have ever had! We stopped on our way home to Wisconsin from Florida and took a detour to avoid Atlanta traffic. This food made it worth the extra time. We had ribs, which were juicy and full of flavor, brisket which my son said was the best he has ever tasted and the half chicken which was crispy on the outlet side and juicy inside. The coleslaw and mac n cheese were the perfect compliment to our meals and I loved their sweet tea. I highly recommend a stop here! read more

Called in to order and the guy said it wouldn't be long at all. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes just to get our order wrong. Then when we got it fixed there was a hair in the fries and everything was too salty and tasted like pickles. It's obvious they hadn't changed their oil in a while and they're frying everything in the same oil. The sausage dog was also one of the worst I ever had! Found this place on Yelp. Husband had the brisket platter, little on the dry side, onion rings and Mac and cheese. I had the rib platter, green beans and Mac and Cheese. Wow. A ton of fall off the bone ribs on my plate ended up sharing it with my husband. Green beans and Mac and cheese were good. Definitely worth a stop for some good grub.
