I ordered the catfish filet with fried okra and cheese grits. The grits were lovely--very creamy and a good cheese flavor. The meal included lots of okra, and it was fine. A bit soggy, would've been much better if it were crisper. The catfish was enjoyable. Servers weren't super attentive but food didn't take too long to arrive and everyone was nice. read more

Went back to Blackbeards and this time I had Barbecue ribs. Pretty expensive for what you get. The barbecue is not cooked on a grill more like it is baked. Not much sauce. Coleslaw is very good. Baked potatoes not cooked well. I had take out did not eat in restaurant. People are nice. I should have known better. If you don't smell barbecue when you walk in it is not cooked on a grill. read more

Great restaurant! I came for lunch and they have a great lunch special. The fried shrimp came with SO much food and I definitely could've shared it with someone else. I enjoyed the corn, okra, and shrimp a lot. Our server did not come back to our table often towards the end of our meal when we wanted to pay the check, but that's understandable. Our large family met for dinner at Blackbeard's on Saturday, 1-18-2025. The restaurant was dirty, lighting was poor, and a heavy smell of raw seafood permeated the dining area. The waitress did a good job waiting on all of us, but the quality of food was very poor. I ordered Cory's special with shrimp, catfish, fries, hushpuppies, and cheese grits. The breaded shrimp was greasy, the catfish was lukewarm at best, the fries and hush puppies were very greasy because the temperature of frier grease was too low which allowed the grease to soak up into the food, and the cheese grits were over cooked, gluey, and lukewarm. I'd rate our dining experience a 1.5 out of 5 stars. In summary, I DO NOT recommend this restaurant and I will never eat at Blackbeard's again. Alan G. read more

Simply can't rely on the authenticity of the fresh fish here. Food will be well prepared, people nice, but will typically be what happens to be in the kitchen not necessarily what is shown on the menu. If you truly like fresh gulf fish like Red Snapper, Grouper, or Flounder may want to try some place else. Sad because my whole extended family used to love this place! We have eaten here, maybe 30 or 40 times over the last 20 years. They are consistent; Very good food, service, prices, and ambience. All their seafood is excellent, along with barbecue pork, smoked chicken, and side dishes. I just had the two meat lunch the other day with catfish fillets and popcorn shrimp. I did a destination ride here on the weekend while in Columbus for work training. It was recommended to me and the ride was nice but the the BBQ did not wow me. The service was quick and polite and the food was timely, which was much appreciated. The fried banana peppers were something I never tried before or heard of before so those were a great treat and I had plenty to take with me. The bbq chicken sandwich I ordered was good and I took wings to go. The wings were a tad disappointing because they were very small but that seemed to be a trend I noticed in the area. All in all if I'm in the area again for work I'll venture somewhere else to give a new place a try but all in all this establishment was solid and provided good food. Extremely overpriced for mediocre food. We will not return. The shrimp & grits were good. But costs $21!!! The $6 cup of Brunswick stew was good, but the cup was more like half a cup. Both times I dined on different fish options, which were ok, but not memorable in either a bad way or a good way. The grouper bites were plentiful, greasy, and salty. They were good, but I probably would order something else, the next time. Just a little greasier than I would want. Sides were fine. Beans were a tad sweet, but the grits were tasty. Time before, I believe I had the fried shrimp. Once again, not particularly memorable. If you are in Albany, and want to steer clear of the yucky chain restaurants (you know who you are), then this is a better alternative. I wish I would have taken pictures or that "smell-a vision" was real so you could better experience Blackbeard's. What a total let down. I placed a phone order for a brisket plate. I ordered: brisket outside cut, okra and stew. Stew is extra. I will say the portion sizes are very big. But big portions of food that doesn't good is not a good thing. The brisket came in a Tupperware soup container soaking in juice ??? What ? The stew smelled and tasted like a jar of mustard with a very odd pasty consistency. The okra was SOOOO greasy. Came here for brisket only to find they don't have it on the menu anymore. Ended up ordering the sliced barbecue beef. The wait for the food was about 25mins, and the food was terrible. The beef was so dry I couldn't even bite through it. The potato salad was drying out and turning color. It didn't taste very good. The French fries were ok. Being from South Georgia, I've heard about this restaurant for years. My wife wanted to go here for her birthday since it was a seafood place she's never been to. We enjoyed it. I chose the shrimp and grits and the large portion was tasty. I actually had plenty to take home and eat the next day. Server was great and there is plenty to choose from on the menu. Great place. Best Brisket I've ever had in a restaurant!!! I don't know how they keep it so tender throughout the night but we order it every time we go, along with other munchables! Seafood tacos are the bomb and totally worth the weight in cash at the end. Delicious. We take ALL family here to eat when they come visit us. My only complaint....... The Cheese Grits... I cannot remember a time that Blackbeard's didn't exist. So based on that alone I thought I should add a star for longevity. I cannot say it is anything extravagant but it is consistent. Over the years I'm sure some way or another I've had everything. If I had to think of something that really stood out to me I would say the corn nuggets. That is one thing that this place has changed the game for me. I don't know how but they aren't ever soggy like they are other places I've had them. If you've never been before and you can expect to see a fried version of any seafood item you've ever heard of. The BBQ isn't bad either.
