Was in town to take a relative out to lunch. We were in the mood for some seafood and I had heard good things about this place. Once inside, there was less than a five minute wait. We requested seating near the front, but was informed that the waitress for that area wasn't on until 12:00. Mind you, it was 11:50 and we could have waited the 10 minutes, but apparently, that didn't seem to be an option. I didn't want to press my point, so we just settled at a seat farther in the back. Our server took our order, but it really seemed as if he didn't want to be there. Not very attentive, but not openly rude. We did notice that he was much more attentive to the family that was seated next to us. But, I suppose these situations just happen. Perhaps he didn't like the way we looked - who knows! Anyway, we started off with the cheesy biscuits and the fried green tomatoes that were delicious (though a bit greasy). It also seemed that the cheese in the cheesy biscuits wasn't melted. We actually thought there were bits of carrots in the bread. Not sure what kind of cheese doesn't melt when baked. Anyway, our table entrees included fried shrimp, fried catfish, grilled snapper, and steak. We all really did enjoy the food, though we had to send back an order (steak arrived well done, but medium rare is what was ordered); we finally received the steak as requested, but after the rest of the table had already started eating (or our food would have gotten cold); never good when an order has to be sent back due to the server's error - this just throws the whole table off. Anyway, did receive the correct order a little over ten minutes later. The good food may draw me back to the restaurant when I am in town again, but I will be sure that we have a different server. read more

Bailey took care of us Sunday as our server! She was incredible! She was super fast, pleasant, patient and professional! The appetizer came out piping hot and delicious! It was 1/2 dozen oysters with cheese....... Phenomenal!! We were able to walk in and get seated right away. I ordered the catfish filet with fried okra and cheese grits. The grits were lovely--very creamy and a good cheese flavor. The meal included lots of okra, and it was fine. A bit soggy, would've been much better if it were crisper. The catfish was enjoyable. Servers weren't super attentive but food didn't take too long to arrive and everyone was nice. read more

Went to Blackbeard's this past Friday and was disappointed with the meals we received. Ordered from the lunch menu and waited for about 30 min for food to get to us. Had noticed customers that came in after us were being served before us but didn't think to much of it, should have known better. Food that was given to us was warm, not hot like it usually is. Figured the waitress must have been overlooking our meals so as to get to other customer first. Only ate half the meal because it wasn't that good and took the rest home to heat up later. A shame to not get a hot meal, but that's how these places are now a days. read more

Went back to Blackbeards and this time I had Barbecue ribs. Pretty expensive for what you get. The barbecue is not cooked on a grill more like it is baked. Not much sauce. Coleslaw is very good. Baked potatoes not cooked well. I had take out did not eat in restaurant. People are nice. I should have known better. If you don't smell barbecue when you walk in it is not cooked on a grill. read more

Great restaurant! I came for lunch and they have a great lunch special. The fried shrimp came with SO much food and I definitely could've shared it with someone else. I enjoyed the corn, okra, and shrimp a lot. Our server did not come back to our table often towards the end of our meal when we wanted to pay the check, but that's understandable. Our large family met for dinner at Blackbeard's on Saturday, 1-18-2025. The restaurant was dirty, lighting was poor, and a heavy smell of raw seafood permeated the dining area. The waitress did a good job waiting on all of us, but the quality of food was very poor. I ordered Cory's special with shrimp, catfish, fries, hushpuppies, and cheese grits. The breaded shrimp was greasy, the catfish was lukewarm at best, the fries and hush puppies were very greasy because the temperature of frier grease was too low which allowed the grease to soak up into the food, and the cheese grits were over cooked, gluey, and lukewarm. Simply can't rely on the authenticity of the fresh fish here. Food will be well prepared, people nice, but will typically be what happens to be in the kitchen not necessarily what is shown on the menu. If you truly like fresh gulf fish like Red Snapper, Grouper, or Flounder may want to try some place else. Sad because my whole extended family used to love this place! I did a destination ride here on the weekend while in Columbus for work training. It was recommended to me and the ride was nice but the the BBQ did not wow me. The service was quick and polite and the food was timely, which was much appreciated. The fried banana peppers were something I never tried before or heard of before so those were a great treat and I had plenty to take with me. The bbq chicken sandwich I ordered was good and I took wings to go. The wings were a tad disappointing because they were very small but that seemed to be a trend I noticed in the area. All in all if I'm in the area again for work I'll venture somewhere else to give a new place a try but all in all this establishment was solid and provided good food. We have eaten here, maybe 30 or 40 times over the last 20 years. They are consistent; Very good food, service, prices, and ambience. All their seafood is excellent, along with barbecue pork, smoked chicken, and side dishes. I just had the two meat lunch the other day with catfish fillets and popcorn shrimp. Been here a couple of times. Not bad, not great. I can not speak about the bar-b-que, since I have yet to try it here. Both times I dined on different fish options, which were ok, but not memorable in either a bad way or a good way. The grouper bites were plentiful, greasy, and salty. They were good, but I probably would order something else, the next time. Just a little greasier than I would want. Sides were fine. Beans were a tad sweet, but the grits were tasty. Time before, I believe I had the fried shrimp. Once again, not particularly memorable. If you are in Albany, and want to steer clear of the yucky chain restaurants (you know who you are), then this is a better alternative. Just go in with moderate expectations, and you will most likely be happy at the end of the meal. read more

Extremely overpriced for mediocre food. We will not return. The shrimp & grits were good. But costs $21!!! The $6 cup of Brunswick stew was good, but the cup was more like half a cup. The hush puppies were delicious!! The pick 3 meats for $28 -- ribs were good. We took the beef home to the dog. She liked it. The pork was dried out and tough. I ordered: brisket outside cut, okra and stew. Stew is extra. I will say the portion sizes are very big. But big portions of food that doesn't good is not a good thing. The brisket came in a Tupperware soup container soaking in juice ??? What ? The stew smelled and tasted like a jar of mustard with a very odd pasty consistency. The okra was SOOOO greasy. Great place. Best Brisket I've ever had in a restaurant!!! I don't know how they keep it so tender throughout the night but we order it every time we go, along with other munchables! Seafood tacos are the bomb and totally worth the weight in cash at the end. Delicious. We take ALL family here to eat when they come visit us. My only complaint....... The Cheese Grits... Came here for brisket only to find they don't have it on the menu anymore. Ended up ordering the sliced barbecue beef. The wait for the food was about 25mins, and the food was terrible. The beef was so dry I couldn't even bite through it. The potato salad was drying out and turning color. It didn't taste very good. The French fries were ok. My family and I love this place. Everytime we go to Albany to visit the students ta Albany state University we stop in here. Always hot food with large portions. Servers are usually very attentive and friendly. Lots of free parking and can accommodate large groups. read more
