I stopped on my return trip to Thomasville from Atlanta Ga. I had not eaten lunch but I was not very hungry. I decided on the Chipped Pork Sandwich. I'm always on a quest for good BBQ. When the waitress brought my sandwich my first reaction was "Wow! That is a generous amount of meat!" The bun was toasted and tasted like it had been brushed with a garlic butter. There were 3 bbq sauces at the table; a mustard base, a hot & spicy and a mild. I normally do hot but I went with the mild sauce since it was their in house homemade sauce. It was Not bad! Overall, I was happy with the large sandwich, the service and the restaurant as a whole. I will stop again when I get the opportunity and try the daily meat & veggie specials or one of the BBQ plates. read more

First impressions; Fairly rude staff. Not much to recommend from the waitress. Pink lemonade is watered down. Barbecue sauces are decent. Food looks good.. hand cut fries, (like 5 guys). Good slaw. Well I happen to be going through Sylvester for the first time in about 7 years and remembered this suggestion. Glad I did because this is probably the best BBQ joint in the area. Good barbecue joint if you are in the area. This is a typical southern barbecue restaurant serving huge portions with more than fair prices. I ordered the 3 meat platter with fries and beans. The service was great and was left food to take home. I ordered the chopped pork, sliced beef and ribs. Everything was prepared just right. I have been back a few times and not been disappointed. Fat Boys is a Sylvester staple. My buddy Shawn loves the wings on Wednesdays and took us here a few weeks ago. I had not been there for a few years, but it was by no means my first time eating here. We ordered fried green tomatoes and they were very well done. The sauce was okay, but the tomatoes were hot and tasty. I had the rib dinner with onion rings. The onion rings were really good. The ribs pretty much sucked. Worst ribs in the Albany area. They are were just gray and falling apart and really lacking in texture and flavor. It is almost like they were boiled. The wings were another story. Shawn let me try a couple and they were crispy enough and well seasoned. The sauces were not memorable. Either way, the food is generally very good and I would recommend if you are in Sylvester and hankering for good food. read more

Fat Boys BBQ was recommended to us from a local with a statement of "best bbq around". We were apprehensive at first because we travel all over the US where we always look to dine at a local BBQ joint. The local knows their stuff when it come to BBQ, 3 of the 4 got the 3 meat platter and Fat Boy's deserve the 5 stars. The ribs were falling off the bone, pork was juicy and the sliced beef was heaven. All three meat had a wonderful smoke flavor and the homemade sauces was the key to a pleasant dinner. I also want to say the pork and beans, tater salad was spot on. Service is exactly what you can expect from a small town where my sweet tea never was empty. I eat here with my family every time I visit Albany. It's a bit of a drive outside out town into Sylvester, but it's definitely worth it. I always get the ribs because they're insanely flavorful. This place is something to talk about! My wife had been talking about how good the bbq was so one Saturday afternoon we decided to give them a try. We had ribs, pulled pork, and smoked chicken with potatoe salad and baked beans. I loved the pulled pork, my wife loved the ribs (they were ok) and our son loved the chicken (he ate half a chicken!). I didnt care for the sides but my wife ate the potatoe salad and our son ate the beans. Looking over their menu I noticed during the week the have daily specials. On Tuesdays they have fried pork chop so I made a mental note to come back. I am so glad I did. They give you 2 huge pork chops, rice and gravy, greens, corn bread and a drink. There's a lot to like about this place. My wife and I showed up for a really busy Wednesday lunch. This is a table service restaurant with a pay cashier ticket. Friendly, hospitable and filled with locals. We both had a 2 meat combo with slaw and baked beans. We both had ribs and I chose their chipped pork and my partner had wings. It's a large menu with more than just BBQ but it looked like most everyone was ordering some Q. I liked the chipped pork with their homemade sauce. They have 3 sauces. 2 are mustard and one red. Only the darker mustard is made in house. It's great. The pork was tasty although a little dry. The ribs are over cooked. The bones are disintegrating. The meat is dry. The color is great and they look great but aren't good. I'd love to try them just off the smoker. They're gigantic meaty beautiful ribs but really poorly kept. They go really well with the sauce. I liked the vinegar slaw. They put a little pickle in it. Perfect. Goes really well with the pork. The beans are too sweet. They taste like coffee pralines. Too much for me. This local restaurant was hopping when we stopped by for lunch. We're always on the search for memorable barbecue on the road, and, while the food here was a bit mixed for me, overall the quality was quite good. We both had the 2 meat combo with 2 sides. I went with ribs and chicken wings, which are a Wednesday special, with baked beans and slaw for sides. The wings were the winner on this plate; nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked. The Carolina gold sauce on the table made a nice accompaniment. The ribs, while well seasoned and sporting the requisite pink ring, were overcooked to my taste. While I realize that many folks like the "falling off the bone" thing, to me it's just taking it too far. Meat that's overcooked dries out easily, and loses its succulence. The coleslaw was good, with the interesting addition of pickles that leant it a nice tangy bite. The baked beans were almost pralinesque in their sweetness, and I would skip those next time. They offer 3 sauces on the table, a Carolina tangy, a spicy red sauce and a sweeter one, also with a nice tang to it, that they make in house. My partner got the chipped smoked pork, and that was good too. Unsweetened ice tea is always a treat to find in the South, and the service was excellent. This fat boy loves Fat Boy's BBQ. Delicious spot that is located just north of downtown across from Jeffords Park. Fat Boy's gives plenty of food to satisfy this fat boy. I ate here with my younger sister and my disabled father. We all agreed that they gave us a lot of food for the prices and the food itself is great. I'd put it in my Top 5 list of must-try BBQ restaurants in South Georgia. The BBQ sandwich is to die for, and so are the baked beans. Lots of bang for the buck with a good wait staff. read more

My GPS took me a shorter way to visit my daughter, I was totally lost, the country was absolutely gorgeous......but where do I eat... nothing in sight, pulled over to check out Yelp... and this was the first place that came up and a lady crossing the street asked if she could help me.. I looked lost...lo and behold, she suggested Fat Boys... so... i took a chance... I had smoked chicken breast, green beans and cole slaw. Fatboys is my favorite place to eat in Sylvester. They have great chipped pork, ribs, chicken tenders, sweet tea, fried pickles, etc. The ranch dressing is the best I've ever had. The service is always great, and even though you may have to wait on a table every now and then it's totally worth it. The service was excellent; our waitress was very friendly, helped us decide what we wanted, and realize we could get almost the same thing for a lesser price, and pointed that out to us. She also knew we were trying to decide between regular and sweet potato fries, so gave us some of both! The meat is very good, especially the pork! The pork was excellent, and the ribs were ok, very peppery. I would avoid the brisket though, it was very fatty and difficult to remove the fat to eat the meat as it blended well. We got the sampler plate with three meats to share so that we could try all three. It was more than enough for my husband and I, and he generally eats for 2 normal people, but it was still very reasonably priced. They make their own sauce and have several different flavors. I would say the flavors were good, but not great. None of them really actually tasted like bbq so that was a bit disappointing. They offer three sauces: Regular, Smokey and a Mustard Carolina Sauce. My favorite was a tie between Carolina and Smokey.. Which says a lot because Carolina is usually the winner for me.
