One of the worst bars ever to go watch any sports, especially fighting events. #1The Downstairs area is a joke. They make you pay per person which is not the problem, the problem is that they put the TV's on 100% Volume and could not hear anything because of the people. They need to install speakers to make it worth it. Could not hear anything from the Fight's at all! #2 I went there specifically to drink Happy Dads which is an amazing drink, BUT! Unfortunately only sold in the upstairs area. You can't even buy a drink from upstairs and bring it downstairs. Very disappointed on this as the staff told me they do downstairs area a little differently. Told the manager why is that not allowed and he said I don't know. Seems like they are very disorganized organization. Finally the bartender dressed in her sports bar and pajamas needs to go back home and hire a stylist. Service: from the beginning, the dudes checking your IDs just stare at you like they're assuming you know you need to give them your ID or something . Maybe if they were wearing a security shirt or something then we know that's who's checking the IDs. Randomly decided to pop into this bar after watching a friends band perform down the street. We are not sports people and this kind of bar would not typically be something we would seek out, but we were pleasantly surprised by the fun atmosphere, kind service, and great drinks! Worst experience ever! Went out tonight for my newly sister in laws bachelorette party, mind you, we were out all day in DTLA and it Airbnb is here in Pasadena! But the bachelorette herself loves UFC, so I seen they posted they were showing the fight here and I had so many good experiences here watching the dodger games, I stated we should go here! Racist enablers. My sister, my friend and I were waiting to order at the bar when two men became verbally abusive after they believed us to have taken their seats (we were literally just at the bar waiting to order). They started making nasty comments about us as women, then continued with "at least she's not a Black man, because then we'd have a problem". We confronted them and they doubled down saying "you can sit there because you're not a Black man, but if you were a Black man there'd be a problem". These men apparently felt safe enough in this bar to make loud racist comments without consequences. I immediately reported the behavior to the bartender on staff who looked a little surprised, but did nothing. We immediately left when we realized the racists were being permitted to stay. read more

The bar itself had lots of sports memorabilia, lots of TV's and a great list of choices. (Pick your poison) The setup is mostly bar top and the food choices were limited but good. I had wings and pizza, great eats. I definitely would recommend this place. Met a few different locals all amazing with great conversation. This is the Dive Bar from my College Days. Not much has changed (except maybe the prices. Always packed on the weekends and a "In The Know" music scene downstairs basement. If you're bothered by low ceilings, claustrophobic or try to avoid flashing lights, you might reconsider this venue. However, if you're looking for the full on party experience with 50-100!strangers then you definitely need to come check it out. Wow, yet another trashy bar in good ol' Pasadena! Seriously what is happening to this town?? The bar upstairs is super narrow and tight, it's hard enough to walk through to get to the back pool table area. And even the pool tables are so close to the walls/seats and to eachother, you are constantly asking people to watch out or waiting for people to walk by. They also have a popcorn machine in the back which makes the whole place smell like butter. Gross. We discovered a bar downstairs and headed down to find it empty and easier to get drinks. I just had a jack and coke which came to $7.50, not bad considering the size of the drinks. But the entire place is covered in spilled popcorn and drinks, almost no clean up, and the tables/counters are super sticky and dirty. read more

The bartender who works there on Sunday 5/8 10pm till closing was very rude and unenthusiastic. On hot summer nights in Pasadena during the late 70s/early 80s, my parents would often load me and my five younger brothers in the van, hoping that the soft whir of the van engine would lull us to sleep. Our route through town invariably took us down Colorado Blvd. from east to west. This was well before "Old Town" had seen any kind of urban renewal; at that time, it was a series of abandoned buildings, halfway houses, adult bookstores, and pawn shops. Homeless lined Colorado Blvd., there was trash in the streets, and "seedy" was in full-swing. And yet, somehow in the midst of all that was an old dive bar called the 35er. My earliest memory of the place was watching a guy in a vest beating the hell out of another guy on the ground as we drove by one night. The fight had poured out onto Colorado and into the street, and Dad floored it to get his family out of there. Thankfully, the 35er doesn't seem to have quite the same proclivity for biker violence as it had in the past... although it has not lost its dive-bar charm. It is now nestled amidst trendy restaurants and retail stores in the heart of Old Town Pasadena. Dark and delightfully gloomy, the 35er (still somewhat pejoratively but lovingly referred to as the Dirty Diver) has over a dozen flat screen TVs with sports and entertainment. There is a main bar, as well as tables, pool tables and a few games line the walls. A few tables outside go largely unused except on weekends. The gal behind the bar is a doll, and completely fits the vibe of this place. My bride of ten years and I like to go in there and... get this... have a couple of beers after dinner down the street somewhere. If you're looking for a safe and welcoming place where you come as you are, a place that doesn't assume, a place that doesn't charge a cover, a place with more history than you have... check out the 35er. This is a surprisingly nice dive bar. As others have mentioned they may be funny with the bills etc, so watch out. One thing that got me was they include the 18% gratuity on the check, then leave a line for tip. I simply tipped and signed, only later realizing that they got me that way. Non-existent security, and it's needed. I went in yesterday afternoon with my son for a quick beer & game of pool, to kill 30 minutes before the Ramen place opened across the street. It took less than that to cut the visit short. A few shots into our game, and two burly guys appeared from the stairwell. Without words, one sauntered up to me & gave me a little push on my chest, shaking his head. Apparently we had accidentally cut into their pool game, and this was a big enough issue for this character to put his hands on me. Alrighty then. Comically territorial. I'm a former bouncer & the old radar was on at this point. My son was on the opposite side & out of the corner of my eye I saw the other big dude was moving his way, so I decided to diffuse it rather than possibly inflaming the hostility & risk someone getting hurt over something as silly as an afternoon pool game. I stood my ground but calmly apologized & let them know we had watched the empty table a while, and had asked more than one person if anyone was playing, and had been told no, before we started our game, and we'd be happy to pay for their game renewal. There was no hand shaking, no gentlemanly spirit, nothing. Really bad juju. Bad vibes. No security anywhere in sight. These guys were obviously the territorial type of macho regulars that look for an excuse to be bullies, and this was on weekday afternoon. I made my way to the other side of the table to keep close to my son, then had him put another dollar in for them. I decided we should just leave them to their game. We quietly made our way to the bar & ordered a beer. The lady pouring was very friendly and attentive, but it wasn't enough for us to want to stay. The 35er always had a bad reputation for trouble when I was younger & lived in the area many moons ago. It doesn't seem to have changed much. Not worth the trouble in my opinion. Hopefully they'll step up the security one of these days & keep the hostile bullying types out. Two stars instead of one only because of the kind bartender. I brought my husband down to Pasadena for his birthday and we stop by this Bar and honestly was the worst experience I've ever had at a bar. They had one bar tender that was completely over worked so that made him very rude and short. They pack the place to where you can't even walk and they over charge for events. I don't recommend this for event or for any occasion . The works where extremely unwelcoming. I don't normally leave bad reviews but I would hate for anyone to experience what we went though..
