I was invited here for a post-conference dinner. It's not a Yelp-kind of restaurant for locals, but instead a fine-dining for business meetings or posh hangout for out-of-towners. The name 34 comes from the 34th floor, and clearly anyone dining here is paying (dearly) for its majestic view of Oslo. The food isn't bad, but for the same price you could get better food elsewhere with a more modest setting.
We all received a 3-course menu of elk tartare, tynnribbe (pork belly, a norwegian christmas classic) and raspberry sorbet. They are good-to-very good, but short of anything special. The tartare combines the taste of elk and berries nicely; the texture is a bit mushy. The ribbe is tasty; the crust could have been more crunchy. The sorbet is a touch too tangy. Service was attentive.
In one word it's 'pleasant' - a good reinvention of norwegian husmannskost with no major flaws, but no compelling reason to repeat the experience. Except to impress some clients with the view of Oslo. read more
