Cozy restaurant with a rustic vibe! They're all about pork and they do it well! It hit the spot after walking in the cold. Food was hardy and flavorful. I greatly enjoyed their stew. Service was great.
We pass this place number of time, Finally we decided to dropping in. As we go through the menu, I decided take chefs recommendation three courses menu. The starter was Norwegian smoke Whale serve with bery sour cream, souce. I choose pork knuckle as the main menu, really incredible huge size around 500gr portions. The skin was crispy. The dessert. It was the mousse with espresso topped with bacon and crumble. Overall it was the greatest eating experience in Oslo. Very interesting. Yes, I highly recommend.....!
A delicious dinner where they focus on pork!! Service was also excellent. We made a reservation in advance cause this place gets super packed. We shared their signature plate, the pork knuckle and it was delicious! I'm glad we shared it though cause it was a ton of food. The meat was tender and the skin was extra crispy. It's served with a delicious mustard sauce that goes well with the pork. It sits on a bed of mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies (cabbage, green beans and carrots). The beer selection is massive so it's also great for beer lovers. I would highly recommend this place to locals and tourists alike!
Wonderful Restuarant with Austrian and German Specialties. Friendly service staff. Great food and great value with huge servings that are large enough to share. Highly recommend dining here.
Came to this place because of the good reviews. Its a great option that specializes in pork dishes. We didn't have a reservation so couldn't sit inside, but there were several outdoor dining tables to select from. It was raining lightly, but the tables were covered so we didn't get wet. Highly recommend the pork knuckle at this place. It is huge (I came hungry, and struggled to finished). Its cooked over 5hrs, so is very tender. And quite flavorful with the wasabi style sauce. Skin is very crispy too. I actually got this knuckle as part of a 3 course meal, which comes with some smoked whale as a starter. This was surprisingly good, with a strong smoky taste. It also came with a desert, which was okay. I also tried some of Schnitzel, which I thought was only okay. The layer of pork was pretty thin, so it taste more like fried batter. Given that the pork knuckle is just a little more, I'd recommend that instead. Service was good, but the waitress did mention the option of tipping at the end when she brought over the credit card machine. Of all the times I've dined in Europe, I can't recall this happening once before. Seemed a little presumptuous to me.

A family owned, pork-centric gem located near the Radisson blu in central Oslo. The cozy, low-ceilings and pig-themed Knick knacks give the place a homey charm. Open for lunch and dinner, we were there on a Monday night (with reservations) and the place was pretty full so plan accordingly. Service was a bit leisurely after the meal but drinks and food came pretty quickly prior. They've got a lot of tables and not a lot of servers. Food wise they do have a few non-pork items but I think one misses the point if going in that direction. I ordered the schnitzel-a large thin piece of pork fried to crispy perfection and served with boiled potatoes and my wife enjoyed the delicious bbq ribs which came with fries and coleslaw. The ribs were fantastic-tender and smoky with a tangy sauce. Lots of people we're ordering the roast pork knuckle-a signature dish. Enjoyed the meal and ambiance.
Found this place while i was searching before my trip! It was amazing! There story is of a true chef using everything so none is to waste! I had to try the whale as recommended by locals IT WAS AMAZING!!!! I also had the pork neck which was so tender and bold with the red sauce To finish the meal i had some white mouse dessert with bacon on top! Would recommend 100 times over

A gastropub of sorts, the Beer list outpacing menu options with Breweries across Norway represented, it is with warm greetings that guests are offered seating outdoors or inside amidst porcine décor. Entirely casual, music playing overhead and service available in English or Norwegian, many will find themselves drawn to the 3-course "Chef's Menu" for NOK 528 that on this day began with tender Smoked Whale and Lingonberry Sour Cream plus Salad and Crackers. Translated as "The Happy Pig," their Pork Knuckle with crackling Skin and spoon-tender Flesh a signature for good reason, Fish n' Chips come in a small portion considering the price and fares less well than at Fiskeriet Youngstorget Pork-centric with several daily specials including Dessert it was on the server's suggestion that White Chocolate Cream was selected instead of Beer Creme Brulee, its creamy texture and mild sweetness punctuated by buttery Streusel plus crumbled Bacon.
I've never been to a restaurant that specializes in pork dishes, but I'm so glad that I heeded this recommendation. I ordered the pork knuckle and was skeptical at first since I'd never heard of this type of meat, but I'm very thankful that I tried it. This was hands-down the most tender piece of pork that I have ever had! The vegetables were so buttery and delicious! I tasted the spare ribs, and they were also tender and flavorful. The barbecue sauce was so tasty that I requested some for my dish! Also, the portions were huge, which was a very pleasant surprise! I highly recommend this restaurant and would absolutely return when I'm in Scandinavia!
No words, just simply amazing. Every bite of the grilled knuckle felt heavenly! Perfect mix of fat and lean meat, as well as wonderfully crisped skin that was tender at the same time! Highly recommend!
Stopped in for a late lunch while staying in Oslo for a couple days. Being a fan of all things barbecue, we thought it might be interesting to experience what Norwegians consider bbq. We had placed a reservation, although the place was fairly empty when we arrived around 2:00pm. The distinctive smell of smoking meats greets you as you enter (woohoo!). Ordered the barbecued spare ribs along with a local Norwegian Pilsner. First thing I noticed is that these "spare ribs" are not the same style/size/cut that you find in the U.S.. These "spare ribs" were smaller than your typical baby back ribs and did not have the tips you usually find on American-style southern spare ribs. The rib meat was tender and pulled off the bone nicely with just the right tug. I could have used a little more seasoning on the meat, but these ribs were worth trying. We ordered a side of barbecue sauce, and it arrived steaming hot in a dish (another difference from American style sauce which is usually served at room temperature). The sauce was a bit too hot (temperature hot, not spicy) to really focus on the flavor, but it was decent. The ribs came with a small side of coleslaw and an enormous amount of fries (way too many in my opinion). The coleslaw had a very unique flavor that I could not quite place. The coleslaw was more of an acquired taste, in my opinion. Bottom line, this was decent barbecue but I'd highly recommend seeking out some more authentic experiences in the southern United States if you get there (see Memphis or Kansas City).

Yes I'm here again. Did I order the same thing again. Yes. Was it incredible again. Yes. Great schnitzel. But their pig knuckles and ribs are also great. Multi lingual wait staff are hyper efficient which once again got me into a busy place solo. OBTW, their portions are very generous. Seriously, eat here it's awesome. read more

The food coma is real. One kilo, the waiter told me. After the fact. Why I ate everything, who knows. At Oslo prices, it should have been an extra day or two worth of meals. I actually wanted something 'lighter' but I asked for his recommendation, and of course he said the signature item that they are "famous" for. I also paired it with some whale, because I like eating protected and endangered species. The whale was the best part. Tastes like those cute little puffins, vaguely like a tender beef jerky. As for the caveman chunk of pork on a bone. Woof. I mean, it's good. The crackling is like pork rinds on steroids and the meat really did fall off the bone. The mustard sauce and the mashed potatoes were loaded with fat. However, the staff friendly and attentive. I love my meats, but this did not blow my mind. Would not go out of my way to come here, and I think the overall ratings are a bit generous. read more

I've never been to a restaurant that specializes in pork dishes, but I'm so glad that I heeded this recommendation. I ordered the pork knuckle and was skeptical at first since I'd never heard of this type of meat, but I'm very thankful that I tried it. We stopped here based on the reviews and it was tasty! We had the smoked whale appetizer which was tasty. The lingonberry sauce was excellent. We made reservations as so many restaurants in the city allow for them. However at 2:00 pm on a week day we didn't need them. Before we opened the door we could smell the smoke - in this case that was a very good thing. The restaurant is know for their smoked meats so I ordered the spare ribs with bbq sauce on the side. The pork was tasty and well smoked. The sauce was served hot and was smoky, rich and not too sweet. I ended up covering the ribs in it and asking for move. The fries were hot and gently seasoned with salt. The coleslaw was cream based and had an interesting spice that made it unique and good. The restaurant has a lot of charm, friendly staff and good food. read more
One of my friends recommended this place for pork knuckles! They have car service to pick you up from your hotel to the restaurant but no service to go back! The pork knuckles were made nicely, the skin was crispy and tasty but the meat inside was very dry! We also ordered the ribs, it had too much sauce on it and even with the sauce, it was still dry! Den Glade Gris means "the happy pig" and is also the name of a family-owned gastropub, which featured several specialty pork dishes. The three-course chef's menu was a great way to try many of their dishes and came with enough to share! The appetizer course was slices of smoked whale from the Norwegian Sea, which had a meaty texture and deep smokey aroma, paired with lingonberry sour cream and cracker bread on the side. The star of the show, however, was their famous pork knuckle, grilled for 5 hours and served over mashed potatoes, carrots, cabbage, and a whole grain mustard sauce. The pork knuckle was super tender and meaty with an insanely crispy outer layer of skin, but the highlight for me was the creamy mustard sauce, which had the perfect balance of savory flavor and mustardy pungency. Finally, for dessert came a white chocolate and coffee mousse topped with breadcrumbs and smoked bacon bits. The mousse had a light, airy texture and coffee-forward flavor, but the most fascinating part was the crispy, smokey bacon, which paired surprisingly well with the mousse to create a complex, sweet and savory dessert! On top of the good food, the service and atmosphere were both particularly pleasant, and everything came at a fair value too. read more
This restaurant is popular with the tourists. They serve up fantastic pork dishes among other things. I highly recommend the Pork Knuckle. It is a hefty portion for a single person, so come hungry. We did also have the salmon, ribs, and the Norway Taster. Since we were from out of town, the Norway taster was our way of sampling everything Norwegian on one plate. read more

What a surprise to eat the best pork knuckle I've ever had in my life just on the first day here in Oslo! I'm still dreaming about it. The outside of the pork knuckle was crispy and thin similar to a Chinese bbq pork but way more thin and tasty! The inside was falling off the bone soft yet the most tender pork I've ever had! I really wanted to come back and eat it again but time constraints prohibited it. I really don't know when I can get such delicious pork knuckle again. Make sure to use the Oslo card to get 20% off the 3 courses meal: whale meat, pork knuckle and strawberry soup dessert. The whale meat was also surprisingly delicious! I've tried whale sashimi in Japan and was so disgusted by the taste but this one was cooked and had a great smoky flavor. The strawberry soup was ok but we also got the cured lamb and goat plate plus the asparagus which were both pretty good. Highly recommend trying the pork knuckle - get the 3 courses meal! read more

I can't say that I went to Oslo looking for barbecue, but what I found was surprising and exceptionally delicious. One of the key items on their menu is a complete ham hock, I would recommend this to anybody who likes pork and wants a flavorful And filling meal. Combine this meal with a local brew and you are perfectly set. read more

Smoked Whale appetizer- good but not enamored with it, Pork Schnitzel & Knuckle for our Entrees- both were large potions that were hearty and delicious, Dessert had me ready to be wheeled out!! read more

A unique pig themed restaurant that I recommend for pork lovers. Went there twice on my visit to Oslo. First day had a shredded pork with bacon and mashed potatoes dish and it had a nice homemade taste. Second day I had the schnitzel and I was impressed. What I like about this place is that they suggest drink pairings for their meals on the menu. read more

Cute place plastered with pig decor. Staff are friendly and the food was good. The pork knuckle was definitely the show of the night and the pork neck was okay but I've had better. I've always loved pork skin and the one they make here is nice and crunchy as it should be. read more
