Planned to eat somewhere else but it turned out to be closed on Mondays, so remembered seeing this place the day before with an attractive long covered circular porch in front so came here instead - seems to be part of the old cathedral complex. Good choice as the environment is very pleasant, although in the afternoon parts of the porch will be in the sun. They have an inside dining room too but quite small so just about all diners are out on the patio/terrace. We had salmon pasta and Ceasar salad with chicken. Both very good although the ceasar dressing is basically just creamy ranch. But it's tasty and the salad very fresh with nice ingredients. Not cheap as nothing in Oslo is - for two dishes plus a beer and water came to about $70.

Renna - Grilled Reindeer with potatoes, season vegetables, lingonberry jam and brown cheese sauce.

This just became one of my favorite restaurants I have been to in a while! To start off their staff is very friendly and ready to be at your service. Being in Oslo I was left with no choice but to try some Reindeer meat and it was very very good. Both me and my fiancé got the Renna dish which consisted of grilled to your liking Reindeer meat with potatoes, seasoned vegetables, lingonberry jam and brown cheese sauce. I've never had any reindeer meat or atleast don't remember having any so didn't know what to expect. After having my first bite not only it didn't have any weird or gamey taste but was absolutely delicious, well seasoned, very east to cut and great to enjoy. For added flavor I dipped the meat in the brown cheese sauce that was on the side which was outstanding! The inside is also very cozy, relaxed and warm. Tables which are by the big windows are especially nice since while eating you can see the outside. Not to mention this restaurant hence the name is right on the other side of the Oslo Cathedral. The area itself is worth checking out! Enjoy!

The Grilled Reindeer... best meal I ever had.

This was the best restaurant in all of Oslo. The staff and food were amazing. I can't wait to go back.

This place has so many tables both inside and outside so if you're looking for a place to walk in, I would definitely recommend it. I was able to try reindeer meat for the first time here and I was pleasantly surprised - kind of gamey, but went really well with the pasta. My friend and I also decided to get the national cake and it was delicious! I would highly recommend that to everyone to try!

Lovely place to sit and have lunch, we split a pizza, plenty for the two of us and nice crispy crust.

It was pouring rain outside and I was looking for dinner spot close to the central station. This place was pretty crowded so I decided to grab a table. I ordered a white wine and the Cathedral pasta (bolognese sauce with tagliatelle). This place is not bad and the prices were reasonable. Nothing special. Service was ok and free wifi was nice.

Amazing food! Esp by Norwegian standards...

Location is the best here. We ate outside facing the street below. The environment is what put this at 5 stars. The breakfast was very tasty and decently priced for Norway. Enjoyed the whole experience. This was the first place that charged for water (came in bottles.) but the food made up for that.

Tonight I went for diner with a friend in Oslo. We were starving... 1 star for the waitress : she was lovely ! 1 star for the service : really fast. Minus 2 stars for the food : My friend ordered a fish soup and the fish wasn't fresh. On top of that it was very heavy. It's been 2 hours since we left and his stomach is started to make crazy noise. He doesn"t feel very well. Connect the dots... I had the Cathedral Burger. The meat was well done - as per request - but the tast was super strong ! It's like the beef was still alive in my plate. I had to add a huge amount of ketshup to cover the taste. I was very hungry but I couldn't finish. Minus 1 star for the experience : A restaurant is a place you trust will serve you tasty quality ood. The restaurant manager should understand and take into consideration that a customers' bad opinion can lead to the end of a business. Word of mouth is strong. Social media is the new medium to spread word of mouth. The impact of customers' review is big especially when the review is bad. Nothing personal here. I just want to share my experience and warn others.

Ice latte and carrot cake at NOK 130. Need I say more? Superfriendly staff. Supernice outdoor seating. Tiny indoors. Does not accept AMEX.

Smoked salmon and scrambled egg breakfast

My friend and I ate here for Sunday brunch before leaving Oslo. We had a very relaxed, slow-paced meal. The service was very casual, which was appropriate for the time and day we went. The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs I ordered came with two slices of whole wheat bread and a small salad. I was surprised at how clean and simple the food was: the salad was not overly sauced, the salmon was tasty, and the eggs were fluffy. If you are ever in Oslo and have a morning to spare, give this place a try.

This was the major destination my sister and I chose to eat at for our big meal abroad to Oslo - and I'm glad we chose it. The reindeer was delicious and so was the coffee: everything was super authentic and tasty. I had trouble drinking my mocha but it was still super yummy (I was having trouble drinking it because I was so full!) The only reason this is a 4 star instead of a 5 star is because service took awhile and the cost was fairly much. However. everyone was still very friendly and it was an experience to remember.

Cathedral cafe is the only cafe in Oslo that truly captivated me with its old architecture and backyard with falling leaves. Its a short 5mins walk from oslo central station and you won't want to miss visiting here!

    Fish Soup. Excellent!

If you find yourself in Oslo and want a dining experience that evokes something uniquely Norwegian,…read moreat least without having to spend an arm, a leg and any other appendage, well, you're in luck. This is an ideal outdoor spot on a balmy evening since it's in the pedestrian plaza right next to the central train station. After spending the day looking at naked statues, appreciating Nobel peace prizes, and walking on the opera house rooftop, Jamie W. and I were tuckered out and didn't want to venture too far from our hotel. We just walked across the street and found a table quite easily here even though it was obviously quite popular with young Oslolites (...is that what they're called?). We were pretty famished since it was a long time since the complimentary breakfast buffet at the hotel. First up were the 79 NOK ($7.90 US) plate of Truffle Fries topped with grated parmesan with a side of truffle mayonnaise (photo: https://bit.ly/3CX84vq). Less Norwegian, more TGIFriday's but satisfying nonetheless. More Norwegian was the 149 NOK ($15 US) Norwegian Red Beetroot. It was served with horseradish cream, pickled onions, and Jerusalem artichoke crisps (photo: https://bit.ly/3R9zSBb). It was just four bites but tasty and earthy in a different way. We moved on to the entrees from there and split two between us. First was the 219 NOK ($22 US) Chicken Salad where they marinated chicken breast in mustard and grilled it. It topped a bed of mixed greens, buckwheat, tomatoes, and radish, all of it drizzled with tarragon mayonnaise (photo: https://bit.ly/3RyNVQr). The mustard and buckwheat added a Norwegian dimension to an American standard. Then came the heartier 259 NOK ($26 US) Steak Sandwich which appeared to center around a tender grilled flank steak with the same accompaniments as the beetroot - horseradish cream, pickled onions, and Jerusalem artichoke crisps (photo: https://bit.ly/3qagzMf), We saved room for dessert, the 149 NOK ($15 US) White Chocolate Sphere which became a table performance with a tiny pitcher of hot raspberry coulis poured over the white chocolate and raspberry cream (photo: https://bit.ly/3qfPTcM). A bit showy but a nice finish. It made us feel like upscale Norwegians dining al fresco. FOOD - 4 stars...melding of Norwegian and American culinary sensibilities into appetizing dishes AMBIANCE - 4 stars...casual and relaxing, the nice weather was the key advantage that evening SERVICE - 4 stars...pretty attentive considering the crowds TOTAL - 4 stars...a good way to sample Norway through your palate RELATED - Exploring Norway? Came with small prawns in a thousand Island style sauce. Just bad. The herring: somehow this was sweet. We couldn't bear to finish it. The raw yolk made it just tolerable. The liver pate. This was toasted. In fact grilled & tasted more like blood sausage. Was ok. Just ok. The duck. Just awful! Dry, rubbery. Not a single redeeming feature to this dish. All dishes were served with pan fried mushrooms and tinned/pickled chopped beetroot, gherkins, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes & olives all from a jar came with the duck. Even the bread & salad were bland. The elk burger is no more. In short AVOID this place unless everything else is shut and you are prepared to spend KOR180 on a bad dish of food!
