This restaurant was recommended to us and it was a great recommendation. We sat outside on a perfect day. Inside the restaurant, they had a very inviting open kitchen and an excellent seating area. We were greeted by the hostess, who also took our order. She couldn't not have been more friendly or helpful and had a great sense of humor. Clearly, this is someone who loves her job and it made the meal extra special. I had the linguine with creamy shellfish sauce, scampi, lemon, squash and chili. Scampi is not shrimp, but langoustine, which is an orange-colored crustacean native to the northeastern Atlantic and Mediterranean. It is known for its small, slender claws, and is more like a mini-lobster than shrimp. The sauce was flavorful and overall was an excellent dish. My wife had the Pasta pollo ubriaco, which is rigatoni in a rich, creamy tomato sauce with chili, chicken fillet and bacon. Also excellent. I thought we should split a side salad, but it was anything but small. Quite tasty, but we were stuffed at this point. Overall, a great dining experience. read more

We came here on a Sunday night. I had the cacio de Pepe pasta and my friend had the chicken salad. Both dishes were delicious! The service was good and our server was friendly and perfectly explained the dishes we were inquiring about. The interior is lovely - so warm and inviting. Tasty food, great service and decent prices! I've been here two times and its a good place to visit. Most of the staff is Swedish which usually in Norway means higher service quality (note that I am biased as a Swede) ;-) Anyway, the pizzas are tasty but you might want to order something extra in case you are a hungry marathon runner. All my friends were satisfied after our visits so it depends on the size of your stomach. A good variety of pizzas to choose from, however not so many beer alternatives on tap. I had the pasta al manzo - meaning beef pasta - and I was informed its the most anti-hungry pasta dish in the restaurant. It is a tasty pasta - but I was still a bit hungry afterwards (again - I eat more than the average person). Luckily, a friends daughter couldn't finish her pasta and it was donated to the "feed-Johannes charity". Good location for people watching if you prefer that - we usually get the table in the back of the restaurant so we are probably not considered as eye candy to attract more guests ;-) Will visit again because of the service and the location, the food is tasty but there are plenty of good alternatives in Oslo to choose from so its not a "five-tasty-star-place". read more

There was a lovely Thursday night atmosphere at the docks, a slight chill in the air, but Olivia's was outdoor heat-lamped right across from the breeeze coming off the harbor. The terrace was bustling with lots of people eating dinner. We had a friendly and quick waiter and I ordered a pizza bianco with salsiccia and zucchini flowers - because I obviously had to, fiori di zucca being one of life's greatest culinary pleasures. It was good, albeit undersalted, but some chili oil helped. The pizza was thin and crispy and very garlicky, and I would get it again in a heartbeat. I had a decent but disappointing glass of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo - it was a bit hot from the alcohol - and my friend had a glass of Aglianico that was powerful and a bit too oaky. I have a love hate relationship with Olivia. On one hand it has a tasty Italian menu with a nice wine selection. On the other hand it is a chain restaurant which at times bring down the quality of service and food. Big empathize on SOMETIMES. I have many great memories form Olivia! Most of time time service is ok, but plenty of times they get my order wrong and I get the wrong bill! Very often dishes or drinkers that I did not order ends up on my bill and it is always a hazel to get in removed. So ALWAYS tripped check your bill at this location. I am not sure if people are lazy, if the place is just so busy they get confused or if they are trying to cheat me for money. Either way uncool and puts me in a bad mood especially when it keeps happening. Most of the waiters know the menu well and are able to help you with the wine selection. The food always taste great, both pasta and pizza dishes. I can't really tell you my favorite because it totally depends on my mood. Great location, but very crowded especially during summer. They do not take reservations for outside and during prime time you might wait up to 30-40mins for a table outside. Over all, fun, young and trendy, but not my favorite place to spend my evening. read more

We have been in Olivia on Sunday evening for pizza. We took my favorite Mare e monti. Unfortunately it was not warm enough - we ate few pieces but the taste was not that good when it is cold already. We asked the service kindly to warm it up, because it is not tasty when it's cold. To our surprise we got very fast a fresh, hot, new! Mare e monti pizza. So, SO good. The ambiance here is absolutely stunning. The open kitchen provides great views, sights, smells and sounds of the food and the decor is rustically elegant. There is indoor and outdoor seating, as well as two levels inside. The top level affords great views of the water, and I highly recommend a table up there. I had a pizza with burrata and it was huge, with amazing flavor and complete freshness in the sauce and herbs. It was paired with a stunning red wine and I left very satisfied! Man, should have gotten a pizza. I got a yen for one last night, and remembered having seen this place as I walked down Aker Brygge. They have pizza. It doesn't break the bank - sold. Once I got there, I definitely ended up ordering something else. Their menu listed a penne chicken dish with tomato, bacon, pepperoncini, and cream, among other things. What could be heartier than a dish of pasta with those fixings? What arrived was a little underwhelming, although still tasty. I didn't catch any sight of the cream - the penne, which was a bit tough, was dressed in a kind of thin tomato sauce. The bacon and plum tomatoes were there, as was the chicken, so I went with it. All in all, not bad. But I found myself gazing jealously at people enjoying nice looking pizzas. Me and my stupid indecision. Prices weren't bad, English menus were available, and the service was friendly. I just...wish I had ordered what I originally came for. But it's OK! I'm flying home shortly, and once there, I am going to devour a pepperoni and green olive from Amato's. I can taste it now... read more

Centrally located on the water in Aker Brygge, Olivia really fit the bill for a late lunch treat. We started with the fritto misto di mare, which was described as fried shellfish and was basically fried calamari with some other fish as well, not sure what kind, served with a savory bike on aioli. I found the dish to be a tad on the bland side but still very delicious and light for a fried appetizer. My boyfriend and I both got the focaccia prosciutto cotto e pesto. Now as an Italian I have a strict definition of prosciutto and the plain ham served on this dish did not by any means fit that definition. That being said, it WAS absolutely delicious. The flavors of buffalo mozzarella, ham, pesto, onion and the airy focaccia worked brilliantly together. And although it was a lunch menu item the dish was rather large and satisfying. Overall the menu was extremely expansive and seemed like it had something that could please everyone. While a large space, Olivia is a comfortable and intimate setting, perfect for a date or meal with loved ones. read more

I ended up eating their entrecôte and was pleased with the food. BUT my experience got ruined by the service me and my colleagues got from the waiter. From start till finish we got awful service. We all can have a bad day but there is still a standard of customer service to expect from a restaurant as Olivias. Hopefully next time I get a much better experience. read more

I'm giving it 2 stars for the nice atmosphere and dim lighting...but lets talk about food! This pizza was incredibly dry... were they on sauce rations? Also who ate my cheese.. Ratatouille? Then my boyfriend ordered some sort of white sauce pasta dish... not sure what it was supposed to be but I had one bite and decided to make him a real version of it the next day. This place was on the way back from the city center to our hotel and we decided to give it a try, as they have pretty good reviews on yelp. Another reason we stopped by is because they had "sheep skins" on the chairs outside as warmers. Was never on one before :) we had the tuna carpaccio for the starter and it was not too bad. For the mains, we decided on the shrimp risotto and the burata pizza. The risotto was amazing. The pizza was just so-so. Overall, the place is worth a visit. Let's start by saying what Olivia wants to be, high-concept Italian trendy. The decor largely fits the bill, but the food at Olivia is simply OK. That isn't to say I won't eat there, I will, I do. However, for people that are aficionados of Italian food this place will likely disappoint. Their pizza is absolutely mediocre and is often no better than Vapianos. The pasta dishes are better than their pizza, but still aren't going to rock your world. My friend and I were supposed to have a "treat" as to mark a little special occasion. I can begin by saying that what we had was the furthest one can come from a treat. We decided to order two Aperol Spritz which arrived shortly, served by our very kind and obliging waitress. For food we planned on sharing, something that resembled a pizza napoletana, and a basket of focaccia with assorted condiments. The bread arrived within minutes and was of the average, yet acceptable, sort -- albeit a little dry. After a good amount of time, I would say nearly 20 minutes, we began wondering when the pizza was going to arrive. The restaurant was far from full and from our table we had a view into the kitchen, which seemed everything but busy. We instantly came to the conclusion that the waitress had forgotten the order, or not heard me ordering the pizza, as she was not Norwegian. A rookie mistake and one we could accept. HOWEVER, what we are greeted with after about 45 minutes of waiting and two completely slurped up glasses of Aperol Spritz is a pizza only a chef in deep misery could produce. Having had NO confirmation from the waitress nor the kitchen WHATSOEVER that our food was on its way, we were pleasantly surprised. I was however not pleased with the wait and thus told the waitress so. She offered us FREE dessert. Keep this in mind as I go on. A fair trade we thought. Having eaten the overly salty and poorly made pizza, of course made even saltier by the addition of hermetic and non-rinsed anchovies, we were asked to order our dessert. We both went for completely pale and disappointing chocolate fondants, which they so aptly had named "soufflé" on the menu -- how professional. After having waited 25 minutes on these slobs of melted chocolate that took merely 3 minutes to eat, it came time to pay. Now however, we were not greeted by the same obliging waitress but by a male servant so sleezy and revolting as one could only imagine conjured up in a work of fiction. He gave us the bill, having added both desserts into the total. I asked him to change this, and he went to speak with his manager. After about five minutes he came back, having substracted ONE of the two desserts we had ordered. I asked him why and he replied "you got ONE dessert for free". This may be a fault of the language skills of our former waitress or of this imbecile's comprehension skills, but she did NOT offer us ONE free dessert. This remark is even more distinguishable in Norwegian. Now I found myself in a horrible situation where I had to make a fool of this snail of a man. Raising my voice I declared that I would never pay for two of those desserts ad we had waited over one consecutive hour for food that could only be deemed average, at best. Thankfully everything was sorted in the end, but I would highly encourage customers NOT to visit this location. They have a serious problem within staff, both in the kitchen and on the floor which reflects badly upon the food and costumer service. It is truly a shame. read more

Right near the harbor in a row of restaurants in Aker Brygge was Olivia. It is a lovely Italian restaurant with indoor and patio seating. My friends and I stopped by before taking the boat out to see the Viking Museum. We all ordered different things but I ordered the penne arriabiata which was superb! I absolutely love this dish since I'm a big fan of spicy foods and this is pretty much the only spicy pasta I know. Service was amazing as well. Gluten Free Pizza!!! And its darn good. This location has been closed/open/closed/open. I believe it is now open :) When I am craving pizza and we have tourists in town this is where we go. The location is amazing, has a ton of seating and food comes quick. Warning bring I.D they love to check your age here if you plan to drink. This is the only place I have ever been checked too...Kinda annoying when you order a drink and then they come and ask you half way through your beer, to then only realize you forgot I.D at home...and they take the beer from you. Awkward and annoying. They should have checked before! But aside from that the food is good! I order the pizza with parma ham, goat cheese and honey! Divine. Try it :) read more

For a quick business trip to Oslo, I asked our hotel (The Thief) concierge for a casual restaurant with really good food that was walking distance and he recommended Olivia. I and my co-worker dining date really enjoyed it - and she's 1/2 Italian! The food was very good. We split a mixed salad with beans and vinaigrette; because I'm a vegetarian she had the salmon on the side but it was very flavorful. I had the eggplant parmigiana which comes in a little cast iron square skillet with a side salad and focaccia. My guest had a wonderful pizza with Parma ham. While I usually side step dessert we had the chocolate cake with a molten center and a a side of vanilla ice cream. The food was yummy and the location on the water is really nice. English was not a problem as I don't speak Norwegian! My only suggestion is to enhance the speed of the service a bit! You'll have a nice, relaxed and fulfilling dinner - just don't be in a hurry! read more

We had a booking for 1800 today. At the entrance there was complete chaos. People running around, waitresses having no clue what was going on and a hostess that was completely apathetic to the whole situation. It was pretty embarrassing for any restaurant. Anyways after 20 minutes waiting and trying to find some help we finally managed to get our table. We ordered entrecôte and the lasagne. The entrecôte must have been the worst I ever had. The lasagne was also below average. Overall this was a really bad experience and I sincerely advise anyone to avoid this place. read more

The service was good, except that we had to wait for the check long after we were done. And we didn't know who to ask for the check, because it seemed like two people were waiting on us - the person who took our orders, and then the person who brought the food. We saw him more than the first person. Also, the pizza was only adequate, the crust was pedestrian, and the lasagna had too much cheese. We only got the lasagna because the ravioli was sold out by 8pm. Both the Olivia barbera and the other barbera were lacking in flavor - the Olivia was almost completely devoid of body or flavor. The nero d'avalo was almost as bad. Perhaps we are spoiled because we live in California and drink a lot of wine, but we expect at least a flavorful wine, even in a house selection. read more

This is apparently the largest restaurant in Norway. That could make you think it's like a factory or like part of a chain, but really, they do a good job. Considering the price level (this also being Norway after all) this place is a find. The food, atmosphere, location and staff are all good. It's not a gourmet place and doesn't pretend to be one either, but for a nice meal with friends or family it's a really good choice. The staff was pleasant and helpful in explaining the menu since I couldn't read Norwegian. I ordered a pizza with olives, tomatoes, basil and arugula. I ate every last bit of it as it was SUPER DELICIOUS! My only regret is that I didn't visit this restaurant at the beginning of my trip.
