Named after Pastry Chef Pascal Dupuy, born French but trained in Norway and part of Oslo's dining…read morescene since 1995, Pascal now consists of several Patisseries and Restaurants including the largest near The Royal Palace. Officially addressed Henrik Ibsens Gate 36, one of the few locations open on Sunday while much of Oslo rests, guests are invited to dine from 12h00 to 17h00 on a collection of Pastries, Salads, Soups, Sandwiches and Desserts. Staffed by friendly servers from take-out to the table, all English fluent with a menu to match, Coffee ranges 49-65 NOK including everything from an honest Espresso to a towering Mocha on Ice. Regarded by Relais Dessert International and Guide des Croqueurs de Chocolat, a range of Truffles lining shelves, Viennoserie is a mixed experience including a good Pan au Chocolate but soggy Almond Croissant while Flan a la Vanille consists of a good Crust surrounding soft Custard with evidence of pure Vanilla Beans throughout. More pricey for Entremet, available to go but plated with Crème Anglaise or Fruit Purees on-site, Pascal's Rhubarb Tart is artful in terms of taste as well as texture while the Feuilletine trends a bit sticky in the Caramel layer which makes cutting without a knife something of a mess. Perhaps best known for homemade Softeis, undeniably produced with top quality Cream and smooth as silk, diners may choose to add a number of toppings with Sea Salt Caramel and crumbled Macarons in a variety of flavors the most popular for good reason.

Even though Pascal serves savory cafe fare, most of the attention seemed focused on their rainbow macaroon display and their visually arresting desserts. What drew our attention was all their photos of their soft-serve which they call Softis. It looked really creamy and they covered it in colorful macaron crumbs and placed one macaroon on top. It would be our choice which one to select. After walking to the Royal Palace from our hotel near the train station, we felt we could justify splitting one as it was only about 63 NOK or about $6.50 in US dollars (photo: https://bit.ly/3PNxVtl). Quite a treat though we weren't allowed to sit in the cafe due, I believe, to COVID restrictions. Jamie W. wanted to return a week later when we were back in Oslo. He wanted his own cup since I pinched the peanut butter macaroon entirely. Sharing is for losers. I think that was what Mister Rogers said. SOFT-SERVE - 4 stars...creamy indulgence and a creative reuse of macarons AMBIANCE - 4 stars...a nice-looking pastry shop close to all the important sights SERVICE - 4 stars...service with a smile TOTAL - 4 stars...who doesn't need a softis? Inside the restaurant, they had a very inviting open kitchen and an excellent seating area. We were greeted by the hostess, who also took our order. She couldn't not have been more friendly or helpful and had a great sense of humor. Clearly, this is someone who loves her job and it made the meal extra special. I had the linguine with creamy shellfish sauce, scampi, lemon, squash and chili. Scampi is not shrimp, but langoustine, which is an orange-colored crustacean native to the northeastern Atlantic and Mediterranean. It is known for its small, slender claws, and is more like a mini-lobster than shrimp. The sauce was flavorful and overall was an excellent dish. My wife had the Pasta pollo ubriaco, which is rigatoni in a rich, creamy tomato sauce with chili, chicken fillet and bacon. Also excellent. I thought we should split a side salad, but it was anything but small. Quite tasty, but we were stuffed at this point. Overall, a great dining experience.

The drinks are mediocre, and personally I feel the space is way to big. It does not have that intimate feeling that you want it to have. My first experience of Vérité was at a friends birthday party. We had reserved seats for 15 and were seated in a private aria upstairs which felt cold and impersonal. The place was way to big for 15, and once people started to leave we decided to cram ourself into the lounge downstairs which immediately felt better. We didn't goto a bar to be seated by ourself, obviously we go to a bar so we can also see other people. I am sure the upstairs space is nice for big groups that have a closed party of sorts, it just wasn't for us. My biggest disappointment of the night was my whisky sour. Normally this drink is on the sour side, but my drink was as sweet as a ripe orange. Actually it tasted just like orange juice, and that is not how you want your whisky sour to taste like! I appreciate that bars try to do something different with their drinks, but I expected my drink to have a sour lemony-whisky taste, and it did not. I ended up sending my drink back, but only to have them give me the exact same drink without any changes. My takeaway form this is just don't order the whisky sour, go for something else, like wine! Overall Vérité has a great location at Akerbrygge, with a slightly "high-end" clientele, however there are so many great bars popping up in Oslo that I just wouldn't spend much time at this location.

It was a Tuesday afternoon but the restaurant was quite busy and it seemed that they were understaffed as the kind lady who took our orders was also tending to the entire restaurant at the same time. Maybe it was because we were starving from the walking we previously endured but the food took upwards to 50 minutes to come out (which felt like quite a long time). However, I have no complaints beyond that because the dishes were worth all the while! The ingredients were very fresh, pastas perfectly cooked and seasoned. We ordered the Rigatoni Alla Bartinli, Ravioli Porcini, and the Tagliatelle Al Pesto off of the lunch menu. If I were to rank the three, the top dish was the Ravioli Porcini, as it was paired with very tasty mushrooms and bacon within a flavorful cream sauce. The Rigatoni had great texture and was a close second as it was overall just very delicious. The Pesto Tagliatelle was also very tasty as well but the ravioli was the all around winner. All of the pasta was definitely freshly handmade. The restaurant featured modern, minimalistic decorations. From the exterior, there is a slight contrast from the Christiania Town-look to an adapted modern look of the restaurant. It was refreshing to see such a modern place near the older architecture surrounding it. From inside, the restaurant features a bar and a few other tables of seating area. It gives off "upscale-relaxed" vibes. Since it was raining that day, it was nice that they had a coat rack and area to put wet umbrellas near the door. It made the restaurant feel more like home. The pastas were quite filling and were perfectly portioned. Each pasta did come out to be close to 300 Norwegian Kroner (~$29 USD), but whatever the cost, it satisfied our bellies and we were happy campers! My overall rating would be a 4.1, rounded to 4/5. The meal was great but it did take a little while to come out. With all that being said, I would come back if we had the chance to explore Oslo a different time!
