This was quite noticeable with the boquerones. The shrimp was better, but for the price (nearly $10 CDN) we got 2.25 shrimps, kind of a rip off. The olives were nothing special, same style as we get at home in a jar stuffed with pimento, and about as good, for $7 CDN. I noticed better looking olives on offer elsewhere in Mathallen. Service was pretty good and the seating was comfortable. Just wish the food was better!

The duck confit was so tender and just salty enough. The shrimps were perfectly executed. The were plump and juicy, with still a firmness on the bite. They were shrouded with garlic magic and other spices. The foie gras was crisp on the outside and messy on the inside, my perfect way to eat it. I did find the pepper to be a slightly odd choice for this one, but it was still delicious.

The interior is really nicely decorated and minimalistic. Wooden tables, retroish mustard colored comfy chairs, inka art on the wall and a long bar running through the entire place. They had eight dishes and two desserts to choose from. We ordered all to share. The first three were ceviche/tiradito. Very different and very tasty. Then we had a dish with octopus and one with monkfish. Both tasted good and had some interesting flavors. Next up was the highlight of the evening: Chicharron! Slow cooked fatty pork with puffed pork rind. Delicious! We had to order a second plate of this. Desserts were not enjoyed by everyone at the table, but I loved the "Inka chocolate". Chocolate cream, sorbet, "earth" and dehydrated mousse together with a lime curd. We also had a piece of meat that some at the table found chewy and bad. The biggest drawback with the place are the prices which I found slightly steep for some of the rather small servings. That could be the Oslo west location... The good: - Chicharrón deserves a thesis on its own. The slow-cooked meat is super tender and oozes goodness out of each bite. The tangy red onions and puffed rinds complement the flavor and texture. - Inka Chocolate is a joy for lovers of deep rich chocolate, with a right burn of chili. - Cocktails are all lovely, go for either pisco sour for a classic or a pisco colada. The average: - Ceviche is rather average which is disappointing, because they could have been fabulous. Alas, the fish did not taste the freshest and lost amidst all the jazz. Some things like choclo (peruvian corn) add nothing except bragging rights of an exotic ingredient. - Tiradito has an interesting passion fruit flavor into the tuna. The smoked cod is okay though some parts (plantains, apple salsa) were a little bland. - Toro Asado is a little tough and is not made with the best cuts. The bad: - Vegetarians beware as only the Papas (peruvian potatoes) dish is vegetarian. The kitchen did prepare additional item, but clearly a vegetarian gets limited experience out of this restaurant. - Prices are too high, considering that you pay almost full-size dish for tapas-sized plates. The service, in fluent English, was friendly and attentive, and my meat lasagna (the daily special) was very tasty, creamy, and amply-proportioned. This restaurant seems much more Italian to me [menu titles in Italian too] than the "tapas bar" designation here, and I must say that I was greatly disappointed at the "vinbar" part of the restaurant's name. While they definitely serve wine, by the glass and the bottle, the selection is definitely not better than any ordinary restaurant, and there are not any particularly intriguing or unique bottles on offer - the list skews mostly Italian, but with several Spanish and French selections too. For sparklers, they had Prosecco, Cava, and Champagne; Italian reds included Chianti, Amarone, Barbera, Cabernet, Valpolicella, and whites a Pinot Grigio and a Soave, and some selections from other countries. It was quite surprising to me for a wine bar to serve wines without any mention of the vintages, too. That's a big no-no in my book. The glass of Chianti was 109NOK and the lasagna 149NOK, for a total of about $32.50USD. If you're looking for a decent, warm meal, Eger delivers. But if very good wine is important to you, you will be disappointed, as I was.

The homemade sausages with lemony quinoa were also excellent, and the chorizo and manchego tortilla was the fluffiest omelette I have ever eaten. The croquetas (not really a dish, but a snack of two small pieces with dipping sauce) were also superb. The meatballs in tomato sauce was the least exciting dish, but still good. Delicatessen is, not surprisingly given it's location, a fairly expensive place, but you still get your money's worth of good food prepared from quality ingredients - I would definitely like to come back.

All in all, a nice establishment and an up and coming place. The only thing that would make it a complete 5 star for me is if they start getting the bolder Cabs and syrahs.
