Love the bar and very good dirty martinis. The food was ok. The calamari was very chewy . We had to request bread and the dirty plates not picked up. The waitress was sweet and knowledgeable. She was overwhelmed with too many tables. The pork chop bone in was overcooked and not enough sauce . The brussel sprouts were way overcooked and not hot. I ordered a side of mashed potatoes and they were over salted . My husbands filet was amazing. His mashed potatoes were also salty . Overall for price we would sit in the bar and enjoy drinks. Came last week for my MIL birthday. It was so good we decided to come tonight to celebrate my husband's and my son's birthday. My fav app is the calamari and burrata w tomatoes. Yum! My first visit I had the salmon and this time the filet mignon. Neither disappointed and both cooked to perfection. My son had the porterhouse last week and this week tried the cowboy ribeye. Every side is delicious because at this point I've tried them all having had two birthday parties here in two weeks in a row. Last week we had the carrot cake and this week the chocolate cake. Had dinner here last, overall it was a very nice experience. The food was good, the service was great and the atmosphere was nice. Started with a Margarita and a Frozen Big Tex, not sure I liked having a dried lime in my drink as a garnish. It just wasn't really appealing. For the appetizer we had the Butcher's Blend Meatballs, very good. We split the Prosciutto & Pear Salad, which split was still a lot! My husband had the Ribeye, it was huge. I had the Filet, a normal size cut of meat. I like my steaks on the upper end of Med-Rare, our server suggested just going with medium and it was a spot on cook. We wrapped up the meal with some Smoked Bread Pudding, good stuff right there. My only real negative was that every time someone opened the door to enter or exit my legs were hit with a blast of cold air. Once the party of 6 was seated at the table right in front of the door they provided a wind block for me, but I imagine they weren't thrilled. We will certainly return and look forward to the additional things that are planned at this restaurant, especially being open for lunch or even opening around 3:00!! read more

We had reservations here for our 30th anniversary. We had scoured the menu all week as we had no experience at this restaurant. Our waiter, Perry, was very knowledgeable and about the menu and the food. Wife had the Chilean Sea Bass over rice, I had the Ribeye, 16oz, with twice baked potato. We ordered the mushrooms and broccolini as extra sides. We had the Crab Cake for starters. All of it was a fine dining experience. Perry was very attentive to our needs but not hovering. 34 Chop House celebrated our anniversary with a Creme Brule on a plate with Happy 30th Anniversary. After Dinner we went to Doc's Lounge in the rear of the restaurant where there is live music on Friday and Saturday nights. We listened to the music before heading home. There are more items on the menu we want to try. I was told the Pot Roast was a number one pick by customers. This building was a bank many years ago I was familiar with. A much older bank was there back in the Denison Hey Days, late 1800, 1900s. They said 2 old bank safes were still in the basement. read more

Not many options for a nice restaurant in Denison. 34 Chop House is the best in the area at the moment. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Food quality is awesome, as well as the service. So good! This is a gem on Main Street. The food is fresh and so tasty. The servers are extremely nice and accommodating. Was there on Saturday night not too busy, had a couple drinks in Doc's bar first-amazing atmosphere. Then dinner happened...wanted to sit us at the door table with a 32 degree wind blowing in...common sense says don't use that table tonight. Out of their premier dish the roast-inexcusable it's your signature dish! Salad guy walked around searching for what table got our salads for 10mins by the time we got them room temp...no salt or pepper on the table or server to be found. Our salad was late so of course our dinner was early, wasn't even asked waiter just plopped the dishes down with us still being half way through our salad...then disappeared until check time brought us our check without asking about dessert which we wanted but figured it's been bad enough cut our losses and make the hour+ drive home. Not sure this place will make it with service like that. They need to go visit Dallas steakhouses and train their people from that example. And I never waste time given a bad review read more

Great service. We were seated immediately. Appetizer (shrimp) was excellent in taste and presentation. Salads were weakest part of meal. Huge hunks of lettuce, tiny croutons and watery flavorless peppercorn ranch dressing. Entrees were excellent. Shrimp carbonara had great flavor and was just the right size. Ambiance is great-better in the bar though. Food has been good but not all of it has been hot. No coasters for the drinks so they slide around in a puddle of water. 10/2/23 We celebrated my mother's 101 birthday at the Chop House. We had the pleasure of Michael for our server. From beginning to end, to say he was the maximum utmost would be an understatement. He was so knowledgeable about the menu, explained everything about what each one of us ordered, offered suggestions and even gave us a history lesson about the the restaurant. Needless to say the food was Awww mazinly scrumptious. I wanted the braised short rib but it wasn't available. Michael suggested the pork chop, I chose a small steak instead, very delicious. After tasting a family member's pork chop, I ordered one to take home. Usually, I never eat all of my food and have leftovers to take home. Not this time! My husband and I happened onto this steakhouse while looking for an ATM on our anniversary weekend. We were not planning on going to a steakhouse and weren't dressed like we would normally be going to a nice restaurant. We decided to stop in anyway and we were surprised. The front dining room is mostly reserved only and we did not have a reservation. However, they have a secondary more relaxed room with their bar, couches, big tv and plenty of extra tables. Perfect for us. Our waitress was Brittany Brewer and she was just great. She sold us on the old fashioned drinks (see the pic) and they were very good. She works the bar as well and actually made ours. What a great start. We ordered the mayor's cut fillet and my husband got the double pork chop. Both were excellent - perfectly cooked. We did manage to save some room for desert and all sounded good. We settled on a crème brûlée and a New York cheesecake. Again both were top notch! We heard about this place from friends so my wife and I went with two other couples. We were seated upstairs which lacked the intimacy and warmth of the main floor dining room. Service was sufficient but lacked the care expected in a high end restaurant. In a Chili's, I would have tipped 25% on a normal bill of 50 or 60 bucks. Here, the menu specials were presented in a perfunctory manner and we didn't really have any service after the meal was delivered until we received the check. The food was overall of good quality. The pork chop was amazing. The fish special was dry and way small. The appetizers were good. With the bottle of wine, our meal for all couples was about $500. We tipped collectively about $120. While the evening was enjoyable, I think most of that was due to good conversation with our friends. I don't see a real reason to go back. Food was good better than average, we had chicken fried brisket and the shrimp pasta, but not for the prices. When we were there,they had been open for 4 weeks, may need some more coaching with service, a patron should never wait to eat an entree with no fork. The restaurant itself is beautiful. They did a great job remodeling! The wait staff was subpar. Things were very slow moving. We waited 20+ minutes on two margaritas. The waiter recommended a bottle of wine that ended up being $10 more on our check than what the menu/online menu said. When questioned as we were cashing out, his reply was "we are redoing the menu, do you want a manager". The food was ok. The best meal was the pot roast. Taste/seasoning was off. We ate at 34 Chop House twice. Fool me once, bad on you, but fool me twice, bad on me. The first time we ate I ordered a chicken fried "brisket" $34ish as I recall. It wasn't brisket, it was a cube steak. It was over battered and under flavored, served with cold mashed potatoes and cold gravy. My husband had a giant porch chop seasoned perfectly, but it was dry. We were with a party of eight. The second time we were a party of six. I had the pot roast because it had great reviews. It was presented beautifully; however, after one bite, a giant, and I mean it wasn't a little, bug came flying out from underneath the onion garnish on top of the meat. It was an appetite killer. The thing flopped over into the juice/sauce on my plate and was stuck swimming around in the sauce, flightless with wet wings. We looked everywhere for our server. Finally, a bus boy stopped by the table, and I gave my plate to him. A manager stopped by and offered a free dessert. Yay. It's truly decorated quite nicely, but it's too loud to enjoy company. The first night we dropped about $800 and the time about $600. For the amount of money spent, 34 Chop House is a disappointment. read more

Went there recently with the party of eight. We had made reservations that morning. It was the zombie walk in downtown that day. They also had another party of eight already seated when we got there at 6:30. Our waiter did his best. He kept telling us the bar was backed up. 30 minutes is too long of a wait for any drinks from the bar. Long wait for the food. A couple of steaks were overdone. And needed to be sent back. All in all the food was good. The ambience is lacking. This restaurant is entirely too loud. Hard surfaces everywhere. Impossible to hear conversations. The more crowded it got the louder it became. Everyone trying to talk over each other. It is pricey. Dallas prices! We've been several times and will probably go again. But not with a party of eight. Our server did his best. Oh and lastly, the poor server got the checks all messed up. We did talk to the manager. She noted about the loudness. Tablecloths would help immensely!
