Went to this cafe as a walk in off the street on a Saturday night, sat down, had to ask for some menus. The food was fine, I would say a little overpriced. The waitress was ok. And then the check comes and we are informed there was a 7.00 cover charge for each of us because of the band!!!! No one told us this when we sat down, were given menus or when we ordered. When we left we noticed the little hand written sign in the window, not really something that draws your eye in a nicely decorated restaurant. Poor customer service indeed. read more

It had a lot of promise--really cute interior, friendly staff, good location. But the food was just average (with the exception of the delicious spinach artichoke dip). I had the chicken tacos, which came on a bland, store-bought tortilla and had chicken strips that seemed to have come from a package as well. 318 is our favorite cafe. Nearly every Saturday, my husband and I go there for an early dinner or for a live music performance later in the evening. The kitchen is quite unique: everything is made from scratch and is healthy yet affordable. Guac & chips, tacos, and pizzas are our favorites. 318 has a nice wine and beer selection, too. Went here for lunch on a Sunday to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday. It was about 50% full, service was apathetic and rushed. The waitress stopped by every 3 minutes to see if we were ready to order. She brought us our check without even asking us if we wanted dessert, and dessert is something they're supposedly known for. It's too bad because we probably WOULD have ordered a couple things, but when you feel like they're trying to hustle you out, why spend any more money there? I will say the food was good, I ordered the beet salad and split pea soup. I had their house coffee, it's VERY strong (I've worked at coffee shops around town so I say that with some knowledge) and should not have had that second cup. I called my in-law who also had the coffee later to jokingly see if she thought they laced it with meth or something. I had the shakes so bad (and it turns out, so did she). I wanted to "really" like 318 Cafe. It came recommended from a local for a late lunch. The look and ambiance has charm enough to spare. The crowd seemed to be regulars. The food was fine--we ordered a pretty diverse selection and I heard no complaints. But the attitude and lack of urgency expressed by our waitress knocked this rating back from a solid four to barely a three. Worth a second visit (to check out the nightly live music at least), but I'm not expecting too much. read more

A favorite of mine for coffee, food and music for years. Sometimes, a bit under staffed, service varies. Menu good, never had bad food. Was disappointed in March when they were no longer open at 7am for breakfast (now open at 8AM).. Great independent shop that fits right in with the character and charm of Excelsior. I went there because I heard it had gluten free options. They do but not a lot and it is obvious that it is not a big priority with them. Having said that I had the grilled turkey with Brie sandwich on gluten free bread. It was so good. The turkey was on the grill just a tad too long but the cheese melted over it and was so tasty. Horrible service! Came in with my friend and his family they have two small children they ordered a breakfast sandwich and yogurt and granola for the kids as soon as we sat down. It still hadn't come after a half hour. When it came the sandwich had obviously been sitting for quite a while as it was cold. Other people came in well after us and received their food before us. I did not have a good experience here. I ordered a "Rustic Pizza" with apples, gorgonzola cheese, and walnuts off the menu, after asking the waitress if this was a thin crust pizza. She said it was. When it arrived, it was a few narrow wedges of pita bread, with a few slices of mushy apple and barely a crumb of cheese. It was clearly not pizza and should never have been listed as pizza on the menu. Besides that it was clearly not pizza, it did not taste good at all, and could hardly be considered a meal. Just this Friday. I decided to get lunch there, cause I remember seen the name in Groupon so I thought, let try it! (I like to support new local business) I need to say I was not impress. I order the (whole) tuna sandwich thinking it would be better to have some leftovers then been hungry and my wife order the flat bread pizza. When I ask the waitress what was the difference in price;, almost $5 for half or almost $10 for the tuna sandwich, it never cross my mind it was just for 2 little piece of bread with a little bit of tuna and NO, no left leftovers. It was the size a 3 year's old kid will eat. It took probably between 30 to 40 minutes before we get our food and by that time some other people who get there after us, get there food and almost done with it, before we even get anything. The tuna sandwich was so tiny I can't believe that was the hold sandwich for almost $10, and the pizza was good or at least way better then the tuna sandwich. In my opinion, the server was OK, no coffee of dessert was offer to me before I get the bill, the food was over price; the food took way to long to come. Probably I won't come back to the restaurant or bar. To bad because it looks cute. :-( read more

wow! i had no idea what kind of treat i was in for- turns out it was the carrot cake AND the service! my date and i came in to share "just a drink" and ended up having the most wonderful time staying for the evening's show, having dinner there, and enjoying the company of the witty wait staff! the service was fast and charming, the food delicious, and the entertainment spectacular. we will most certainly be back for more! read more

Went for lunch and won't be returning. As I go through why not, keep in mind the restaurant was less than 25% full. I double checked ingredients of what I wanted to order to make sure it was vegetarian. No meat listed by her, so ordered it as it was vegetarian, along with a glass of water. Lunch arrived,but no water, so I asked again. The server said she'd bring it right out. I started on the lunch, only to discover it had different ingredients than I was told, including meat. Figured the server would be back soon with the water, so thought I'd wait. About 10 minutes later, no server, no water, no one asking if everything was OK, etc. Nothing. It was easy enough for me to find my server chatting with some other employees to say I was leaving and the ingredient list should be reviewed. read more

Neat place in Excelsior, MN, however, their cover prices for entertainment are way over priced. We sweated through an evening performance because their air conditioning could not make it cool enough for a full house. Their facility is not big enough, as they cram as many people in as possible. Was a busy concert night.(GREAT SHOW) Our family had reserved tables right by the stage that part was great. Service was slow. The food was not memorable. Very cafe style it's okay for lunch but would not reccomend it for dinner. Service was very sparse not really checking on us at all. The evening ended with leaving us with a feeling of not wanting to patron this establishment again. Had ordered a sandwich which did come with chips. They had mistakenly served us some chips with dip. (never been there before didn't really know if it was part of our meal or not...?) The head server/ manager came over and was extremely rude. They came over in a rude demeanor (the look on their face matched their attitude) and said "you didn't order that!) They made us feel as though we did something wrong. The server had made a mistake. Cafe 318 is one of my favorite places to go! Not only is their food amazing and also their lattes, their customer service is outstanding! I stopped in after a run with my baby, and being the absent minded new mom that I am, I realized after I ordered my latte and scone, I forgot my wallet at home. Feeing embarrassed, I told the waitress to stop making my latte because I didn't have my wallet. She insisted that I have the latte and scone on the house. She was so sweet and kind and I couldn't believe how understanding she was of my situation. I would recommend anyone to come to Cafe 318, it's the perfect place to have a great meal, eat inside or outside, and know that their friendly staff will make your experience that much more enjoyable! read more
