I've since moved out of the area, but was back in town scoping neighborhoods for when I return to ATL. I decided to stop at the Blast Buckhead location for old time's sake. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to my memories. The class that I attended was a 5 min block class which I never cared for in the past and didn't care for this time bc there's not enough time to work up a good sweat at each station before transitioning since the clock keeps running during transitions. This location also has zero COVID safety protocols: because of the constant switching, there is no time to wipe off the shared equipment and wipes aren't even provided on the floor. My biggest gripe, though, was the instructor and his music. I enjoy boutique fitness classes and the playlists usually get me pumped for a great workout. This instructor played LOTS of pop and rock and a handful of 80s/90s R&B songs. By the time there were 20 mins left in the class I hadn't heard a single hip hop song so I asked if he would mind playing some. His response? "Umm... we have to play stuff for everybody." I responded "yes I know. I just haven't heard any [hip hop] so that's why I asked." His response rly annoyed me. I am not a fitness class newbie. OBVIOUSLY most instructors play a variety of music for "everybody" but completely excluding one genre of music doesn't seem like you're playing music for "everybody." Am I not a part of that number? Also, I've been to countless studios-- OTF, Solid Core, Barry's-- and the instructors there ALWAYS welcome requests from participants bc we are the ones working out! I don't plan on joining when I move back. Ugh what a bummer.

I arrived a few minutes early for my first class and was warmly greeted by the front desk. She checked me in and gave me a tour of the space. The restrooms and shower area was fully stocked with goodies in case you left something at home. Good to note if you are headed to work after a workout. I dropped my keys into a locker and waited for class to begin. The instructor, Denae, called me into class a little early and showed me the equipment and treadmills and how everything would flow during the workout. These treadmills go up to 30 incline, woah! Cold water bottles and towels are provided too, so amazing! Class began and we warmed up. I was already breaking a sweat and feeling good when the first block began. The class is broken into smaller blocks of floor and cardio work. After the intervals on the treadmill, it was time to swap to the floor. A super intense workout with long and short resistance bands were killer. I needed to change my band for a 'beginner' band, which the instructor noticed and assisted me so I didn't have to move from my station- Thank you! Fast forward 60 minutes and we were finished, cooling down with some stretches and lite ab work. I left feeling awesome, it was a great experience.

Everyone at the gym was incredibly friendly. Each time I asked someone how long had they been going to the gym, they gave their answers in years vs months... 6 years, 12 years, etc. Everyone was extremely happy at the gym. It was an easy location to go to, good parking... The equipment was older but functional. The trainer was very knowledgeable and really seemed to care about how I was performing the exercises, making sure that I performed them properly vs just doing an exercise.

It starts with a 20 minute uphill run followed by non-stop circuits focused on different movements and muscle groups for a full 40 minutes. Well, not literally, but now, 3 months later, I still get my butt kicked and don't do every exercise. I can tell how much I've improved, I can do 50 last push ups now, instead of 5, I can do 300 crunches, instead of maybe 50. If you can get to the gym, you will be motivated for every bit of the hour of class or circuit. It's been my favorite workout and I've stuck with it longer than anything besides running. A friend recommended I try at free class, so I started by taking the yoga class on Sunday at 5 PM. After meeting Alberto, the owner, he gave me the opportunity to try some more classes so that I could evaluate the program before committing to a membership. To be completely honest, the first few classes were somewhat difficult for me. The combination of interval strength training and intense cardio provided me with the ultimate challenge. I honestly felt a great sense of accomplishment after I finished the first week and completed a variety of different classes. The best part of BFT is the support you receive from the instructors and trainers. Being that I was new to so many of the exercises, it was wonderful to receive instructions and encouragement from everyone, including Lauren, Jen, Jayson, Javonte, Brian, Chayla, and Rachel. Even Alberto, the owner, walks around during some classes, giving people pointers on how to properly execute each station. I have…read moreabout a moderate fitness level and have worked out at various private gyms for the last 5 years or so and was searching for somewhere closer to my home and in a smaller space with a different vibe. An Instagram ad got me in the door and I signed up for the 1-week trial. After being on a month and a half sabbatical from my last gym, I didn't find the cardio class to be as difficult as I thought it would be. I thought the pacing of the class was good and several people advised me before and during the class to take breaks if/when I needed to. I also took a strength training/weight class that I didn't find particularly difficult to get through and the trainer offered modifications to exercises as needed. What I really like: 1. They show you the moves before the class and they are also displayed on the screens as you move through the workout. 2. Small classes, I think the classes I've taken average about 15-20 people moving at whatever pace they need to. 3. Variety of classes and times available. There are several classes in the morning and the afternoon which are spaced out well for folks that may prefer early morning or evening. 4. Scheduling through the app is super easy and convenient, I've scheduled up to the day of a class. I really like this place and I look forward to coming here regularly. It's definitely not as overwhelming as one of the bigger chain gyms, I think the class sizes are somewhere around 15-20 and it's just a really good vibe for my fitness needs. Also, as someone who was paying $300/month at a private gym for semi-personal training, the pricing at F45 is a steal and I wish I'd found them sooner.

The workout combines intervals, circuits, and HIIT training and functional movements. Think pushing, slamming, pulling, squatting --jumping etc. Movements to strengthen your whole body without machines. I purchased the first timer promo, $36 for 3 classes, and went to my first class on Tuesday after work, and let's just say Josè is an awesome instructor! Being that it was my first time at a Blast studio, Josè showed me around, and gave me a brief rundown on how the class will be ran, so I knew what to expect. He made me feel welcomed and answered any questions I had. He also let me know the studio validates parking, in the parking deck, so I don't need to worry about paying for parking! The gym is really clean and nicely put together. There are also free lockers so you can stow your goodies away, while you burn fat! Now on to the workout. So I've never worked out for a straight 60 minutes (hence why I'm out of shape hehe), but Josè was so fun and energetic, time flew by and I didn't even realize I went the entire class without stopping! We did so many fun workouts on the treadmill and the floor. I have an semi-athletic background, so many of the exercises we did, weren't too intimidating but they were definitely challenging! I worked up a pretty nice sweat, and a few times I wanted to yell at Josè for making us work soo hard, lol but I am so glad he kept pushing us, because I know I needed it. I'll be going back to more classes at Blast, especially when Josè is there! Excellent gym and staff, and I will be back. Side note: if you're looking for a COVID-19 friendly space to work out, this studio isn't for you. No one wore masks during the exercise, and the studio where classes are held is really small, so no social distancing. Ventilation was really good though, so it didn't feel like I was breathing old air. To public: if you are coming to workout in a public place, please make sure your hygiene is up to par. Wear deodorant at the minimum, because it's just rude to others to have to smell your funk while working out. Just saying.

The studio is located in midtown next to Kale Me Crazy and parking is validated if you park in the garage. The staff is helpful for new students and showed us the studio space as well as explained expectations for the class (what they will call out, what it means, what the assistant does during class, etc). I liked the fast pace workout and the energy of the instructor. At the end of the class I felt like I had a great workout that worked all parts of my body (arms, legs, abs). I love that the attentiveness of the staff in helping students refill water during class. They also keep the shower and bathroom clean and stocked with gym essentials (shampoo, hair dryer, lotion, bag for wet cloths). The only downside is that the space is quite small so that at the beginning and end of class it can be a little crowded in the hallways.
