After experiencing pinnacle for myself I can see the reason for all of the successful client transformations. Pinnacle fitness is a one stop shop for everything fitness related. They offer personalized training, group fitness classes, and stretch therapy. The trainers at pinnacle are highly educated in the field of exercise science and are able to create a customized training program that is specific to the individual clients needs. This is something that I have not seen anywhere else. Not only do they take a scientific approach to training but they also bring a friendly, motivating and upbeat energy to ensure client motivation

I have been working out with owner David Nash in private sessions since the first of the year. I…read morereally like David a lot - he is a great guy and a very professional & experienced personal trainer. I have learned a lot from him already and know that every Tues and Fri, I am going to have a terrific 45 minute workout (or a little less when I am late!). By terrific, I mean hard as heck - David is very encouraging and also very precise about form and the amount of weight. He pushes when appropriate, which seems like 90% of the time!, and backs off the weight when he sees that I'm not keeping good form. I told David that I wanted to focus on arms, back & shoulders (I had a very good base but had started losing my tone/cut due to partial neglect for a few months). He designs my training session around that - with some core thrown in to make sure I'm maintaining that with my other workouts during the week. Every session has been different and challenging so far. I do get sore after our workouts but not in a painful, can't-raise-my-arms-to-wash-my-hair way. His gym is your basic physical fitness gym with a solid variety of weights and other fitness equipment. He has very very popular bootcamp classes -- once I started working out with him I realized a lot of Avondale Estaters frequent his gym and take great pride in earning their "levels", e.g., Warrior, Elite etc. I earned my warrior, which is level one and actually sort of thrilled me. I want to wear my Tshirt out & about so people know, hey, I made it too. :) David also offers small group training - women sculpting groups and other strength training classes along with bootcamp. I think the best things I can share about David are that he has extensive experience and knowledge of exercise and anatomy, he is encouraging, communicates very clearly and specifically to ensure proper form - and he's just a really good, nice guy.

Going to Karen's classes was part of those waves, but it wasn't until I was in my forties and had two kids that I decided I needed to make exercise a regular part of my life. I was looking for strength and stamina and started out with small-group training with Karen. I've been doing the same group training for two years now. Karen is amazing at what she does. Not only does she create challenging, varied, and--yes!--FUN workouts, but she gets to know each person in her class so well that she knows when to motivate you, when to give you modifications, and when to push you. She is always researching and trying new exercises and teaching you how they benefit you. Perhaps most of all, I love the camaraderie, support, and genuine care I feel in her classes. We work hard together, encourage each other, and laugh a lot. I can't imagine working out anywhere else, and I hope I never have to! If you're looking for a trainer who will support you, motivate you, and care about your health, and for classes with awesome people, I highly recommend Karen Schrier Fitness!

Love this Pilates Studio…read more I'm going to mainly do pro/con comparing with Stellar Bodies, because they've been my favorite for a decade pretty much. At The Studio - There are several different types of classes based on level/ability, which makes them a bit unique compared to places like Solidcore and Stellar. You might not be as sore after one of the Level 1 classes as you would be at Stellar Bodies or Solidcore, but you'll be coached into correct alignment & lower risk of injury for sure. The focus is on slow, calculated movements (similar to Stellar), but also on injury prevention & recovery support. Price-wise, The Studio is quite affordable. Stellar is a bit more expensive (depending on class package/day). I haven't taken a Level 3 at The Studio yet, but I imagine they're in line with Stellar. Both offer support from the instructors, but The Studio has smaller class sizes and the instructors put Pilates & injury prevention first. Stellar is more focused on getting a great workout, but that can be achieved at either studio. Overall, I'll still make it to Stellar occasionally (not much since their Midtown location closed though), but The Studio has become my weekly/go-to for Pilates.

I have been going to CrossFit Decatur for almost four years now and I can unbiasedly say that this…read moregym has some of the best coaching, largest variety of equipment and some of the best community members I've come across! (Full disclosure, I'm married to one of the coaches but as any lady knows, husband/wife relationship is different than a coach/trainee relationship) The workouts are so prescribed and varied - you can really tell they are not just dialed in. Instead, there is a reason for the madness. Every workout is designed with growth and improvement in mind. Additionally, everyday there are 2-3 different options of each workout to allow anyone to participate at any skill level. You don't get this at many other gyms. The coaches are friendly, well trained and truly care about your form and technique. Again, living with one of the coaches - I have had to listen to technique talks during many date nights... these coaches care. And the members are amazing! They are welcome, close knit and friends outside of the 4 gym walls. I travel a lot and have visited many gyms. CFD's coaching staff and members are a personable, a class act and stand out above the rest!

I am giving CrossFit Decatur a 2 star rating because while it was not all bad, I had an overall…read moreunpleasant experience at this gym. I will start by saying that the gym my boyfriend and I came from (Crossfit Providence in RI) set the standards very high, maybe even too high. The community was great, the coaches gave excellent feedback and would NOT let you lift heavier than was safe for you to do so, and they ran the Crossfit Opens in a very fun and community-oriented way. I was a member at Crossfit Decatur for 10 months, and my boyfriend was a member for 8. When I joined, the coaches were friendly, talkative and seemed to be very involved. As time went on, this proved to be not so true. With the exception of 1 (out of 3) coaches, none of them would say hello unless you did first. It was not a friendly environment at all (in terms of the coaches, not the members, who were great), and to be honest, I didn't feel welcome/comfortable there majority of the time. The main coach, in particular, did not even say "hello" or "welcome" to my boyfriend for over TWO WEEKS when he joined two months after I did. This coach rarely gave me feedback, and never gave my boyfriend feedback on any movements. He was extremely sarcastic in the way that he would speak to the gym members, and would set crazy high standards that if you were unable to meet, there was "something wrong" with you. If I had been brand new to CrossFit and this was my first gym, I certainly would not have been motivated to continue with the sport. Something worth noting is this gym's odd emphasis on WOD scores. At the end of each workout, the coach will walk around the gym and it is expected that you kept track of your performance and will report it. The coaches then enter your scores for you. Instead of saying "good job" or "nice work!", all that seemed to matter to the coaches was your time and/or reps. At every other gym both my boyfriend and I have been to, Wodify is used by athletes IF THEY CHOOSE in order to track their own progress, not see where they place on the scoreboard. This can be extremely discouraging to somebody who is new or injured, which I was for 6 months, as you have to modify a good amount of movements. The way the Open was ran was not community-oriented, to say the least. Almost every week, at least one of the coaches was away on vacation (and only one had emailed us in advance to wish us good luck), and oftentimes the owner had his personal training clients in the gym at the same time we were doing the workout, and he would say nothing to anybody else except for his own client. Again, this was very very different from my past experience with the Open. It seemed like it was more of a bother to the coaches than anything else. The main coach also programs a "Fitness" workout, oftentimes completely different then the regular WOD, for those who "don't care about Crossfit and just want a workout". Oftentimes, scaled athletes have to do the movements programmed for the Fitness workout simply because they are not yet able to do the regular WOD movements. To say that this means you "don't care about Crossfit", again, is extremely discouraging and is not a good way to motivate others to get better at the sport. There is no place in the gym for members to hang-out before or after a WOD (again, not very community-oriented). The building rarely runs the AC, which in the Georgia summer, can be dangerous. When the AC is turned on, it seems as though we are expected to act grateful....which is odd considering this is the most expensive CrossFit gym in the area. There are limited classes throughout the day, and no classes on Sundays (just an open gym and no music playing. At times, there will be special classes on various topics (nutrition, self-defense, etc.), but these ALL cost extra $$. There is no option of buying Fuel for Fires, or any other post-workout beverage/snack. There is no place to safely do muscle ups, and the rigs are extremely hard to hold onto. You are not allowed to use tapes on any of the rigs either (and there are threatening posts along them to remind members not to tape them). The runs are all programmed along busy main roads, again, not very safe. When my boyfriend and I gave our notices that we would be leaving for a nearby CrossFit gym, we were not asked why or for any feedback by the owner. In fact, the owner NEVER even had the courtesy to reply to my boyfriend's notice, which is if nothing else, rude. I even went out of my way to email the head coach to ensure my boyfriend's notice was received and they he would not be charged in the future, and the only reply I received was "I do not know anything about charges/dates, but I am aware that you are leaving. Good luck.". No "it was nice having you!" or "sad to see you go!" or "where are you headed?" or ANYTHING. Again, not very welcoming. All in all, I would say that the environment here is not a great one if you are looking for a community-oriented crossfit gym.
