I'm a BLAST OG, meaning I joined BLAST back in 2013/14 when it used to be called "Blast 900" in Athens. I've since moved out of the area, but was back in town scoping neighborhoods for when I return to ATL. I decided to stop at the Blast Buckhead location for old time's sake. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to my memories. The class that I attended was a 5 min block class which I never cared for in the past and didn't care for this time bc there's not enough time to work up a good sweat at each station before transitioning since the clock keeps running during transitions. This location also has zero COVID safety protocols: because of the constant switching, there is no time to wipe off the shared equipment and wipes aren't even provided on the floor. My biggest gripe, though, was the instructor and his music. I enjoy boutique fitness classes and the playlists usually get me pumped for a great workout. This instructor played LOTS of pop and rock and a handful of 80s/90s R&B songs. By the time there were 20 mins left in the class I hadn't heard a single hip hop song so I asked if he would mind playing some. His response? "Umm... we have to play stuff for everybody." I responded "yes I know. I just haven't heard any [hip hop] so that's why I asked." His response rly annoyed me. I am not a fitness class newbie. OBVIOUSLY most instructors play a variety of music for "everybody" but completely excluding one genre of music doesn't seem like you're playing music for "everybody." Am I not a part of that number? Also, I've been to countless studios-- OTF, Solid Core, Barry's-- and the instructors there ALWAYS welcome requests from participants bc we are the ones working out! I don't plan on joining when I move back. Ugh what a bummer. read more

I am big into fitness. I have tried a few different gyms and group fitness classes, but Blast is by far one of the best. I arrived a few minutes early for my first class and was warmly greeted by the front desk. She checked me in and gave me a tour of the space. The restrooms and shower area was fully stocked with goodies in case you left something at home. Good to note if you are headed to work after a workout. I dropped my keys into a locker and waited for class to begin. The instructor, Denae, called me into class a little early and showed me the equipment and treadmills and how everything would flow during the workout. These treadmills go up to 30 incline, woah! Cold water bottles and towels are provided too, so amazing! Class began and we warmed up. I was already breaking a sweat and feeling good when the first block began. The class is broken into smaller blocks of floor and cardio work. After the intervals on the treadmill, it was time to swap to the floor. A super intense workout with long and short resistance bands were killer. I needed to change my band for a 'beginner' band, which the instructor noticed and assisted me so I didn't have to move from my station- Thank you! Fast forward 60 minutes and we were finished, cooling down with some stretches and lite ab work. I left feeling awesome, it was a great experience. read more

The workout is fine, some days are better than others since the exercises change every day. I do wish instructors corrected form more often though. Assistants are there to help, but they generally just refill water bottles and set treadmill inclines. What really gets me is the restrooms. There is mold in the showers, and the sink surfaces are rusting, but nobody seems to care. They have towels there, but most of them are fraying and need replacing. I also found a massive wad of someone else's hair on a towel recently - not what you want just before you jump in the shower. There are only 3 showers available for women, so occasionally you do have to wait until someone else is done. Of the three showers, one is in a separate handicap bathroom and one has the worlds worst water pressure (something that has been a problem for over 2 years). For almost $200 a month, the facilities should be much nicer. There are also only 3 classes on Sunday and 5 on Saturday, so don't expect to workout in the afternoons on the weekend. read more

Blast is without a doubt a really great workout - always worth the long drive down from Alpharetta. Most of the instructors are good | Paige, Kelli, and Sarah are my faves -- Andrew, not so much. And most of the time the workouts are modifiable for all skill, strength, and endurance levels (sometimes they're just rough and I can't keep up on the floor due to the weights being too heavy). Real talk: it is a real great workout. Taking 1 Star off due to the prices. I used to visit quite often when they had a Dunwoody location and reasonable prices. Now, I visit 2 times per month via ClassPass and would love to go more but they have seriously priced me out of going more often (and I would love to). Be prepared to spent some serious cash to work out here often. read more

COMPLETELY sold on BLAST! They switch from spurts of cardio to strengthening with weights. Although a little complicated to understand initially, by the end of the session I felt like a pro. It isn't the hardest workout i've ever had (james burrough's sunday boot camp class at urban body holds that honor) but it comes in a close second. This shit is for real real, not for play play. To put it simply: floor strength work punctuated by balls to the wall treadmill work. I'm sure there's someone out there who can run 10 or 12 mph at a 30% incline, but this bitch ain't it. There are three levels that they help you navigate quickly: the walker, jogger, and runner levels. So if it gets to be too much (and it will) you can adjust your incline or your speed. What I liked: the music. Thanks for the hip hop, well done. I liked the cute girl who refills your water bottle and makes sure you have everything you need without being asked. I liked that the max number of students in a class is 12 so you never feel crowded or like you can't spread out a little. I liked the teacher who was encouraging without being a motivational speaker and at the end of class thanked me personally for coming since it was my first time. i liked the other students who were, yes, in good shape, but not in an annoying way. The price tag is hefty at 28$ a class but worth it for what you get. My only disclaimer about this class is that I believe you only need to take it once or twice a week. As someone who self IDs and trains as a sprinter, running like this is very stressful on your hip flexors, your knees, and particularly your central nervous system. I researched their site to see how many times a week they recommend it and couldn't find anything. You certainly shouldn't be doing them back to back. If you put it in that perspective 28$ a week isn't that bad. Start slow, be careful, and you will love it. After a while. read more

This is without a doubt my favorite HIT class...EVER! It's completely addictive and you see results after a few classes. Each trainer has their own special way to torture you in the BEST way possible! My body is changing and sculpting in ways I could never achieve with classes at the local gyms or their trainers. The staff is energetic and always super helpful and motivating. I'm a sucker for Bri's classes...she constantly takes it up a level but also allows you to go at your own pace...then she pushes you to challenge yourself and BOOM - you're going at twice the pace and twice the weight. Nathan is another favorite...but I do need to say that all trainers offer various levels of challenges that'll keep you coming back for more...even if you're wobbling in. Talk about a butt kickin' workout! I had been toying with the idea of trying Blast since Charisse M. went and told me about it. The concept of this class made me nervous, scared even. 900 Calories in an hour? Sounds intensely painful! Blast was featured on Groupon last week so I put my nerves to the side and purchased the deal. I went to my first class on Saturday and my first impression was what the hell am I doing here?! Most everyone I saw initially seemed super fit and they all seemed to know each other. I definitely felt out of place with all the Buckhead Barbies but once the workout started I was able to push all of that out of my mind. Everyone was uber focused on their workout and not on eachother. How can you not be super focused when you are running up hills on a treadmill and jumping up and down with weights in your hands on the floor? During the floor exercises I was able to look around and I noticed there were more people like me - newbies - which made me feel more secure in my surroundings. The class alternated 5 minutes of cardio (treadmill) with 5 minutes of strength training exercises on the floor for 60 solid minutes. The treadmill portion included running up hills, walking up hills at a crazy incline, and sprints. The strength training portion on the floor worked the entire body - started with arms, then legs and finally abs. It is amazing how quickly 60 minutes goes by when you are constantly changing up the routine. I love the fact that they provide you with a towel and a bottle of water. They even come around throughout the class to refill your water bottle. The only negative thing I have to say about the class is at first I had no idea what was going on. I started off on the treadmill and the instructor just started yelling out all kinds of random numbers. I didn't know if they were speeds, inclines, or speeds and inclines. I had to glance at my neighbors treadmill to figure out what I was supposed to be doing! I think that with an inflow of new clients from the Groupon they should take a minute at the start of class to explain it a little better. I upgraded my Groupon to the 10 pack of classes - that's how much I enjoyed it. I definitely recommend Blast to anyone who is looking for an intense workout. read more

I've been going to BLAST sporadically for a couple of years now, and the workout is consistently one of the best in Atlanta. It's a treadmill-based HIIT class, with half the group starting on the treadmills and half starting with floor exercises, and although I haven't tried either, I've heard the style of workout is similar to a Barry's or Orange Theory class. Parking at this location is really easy, and the gym is located right next to a Kale Me Crazy (coincidence?!). The front staff are always really nice, the inside is immaculate, and there are plenty of lockers to store your stuff. Each station in the class (whether a treadmill or floor station) has a water bottle and towel set up when you go in-- supplying water bottles is a small perk that definitely separates BLAST from other gyms, and it's nice that the instructor's assistants refill them throughout class! The classes themselves vary by instructor, but I've never left without being absolutely drenched in sweat and feeling like I accomplished something. I love that aspect of their classes! I'm consistently pushed hard, I almost always feel sore the next day, and I have never left feeling like it was a waste of time. Some of my favorite instructors are Marilu, Megan, and Nathan. Reggie's class is also awesome, but sometimes I feel like the class is almost too hard (as in, the sprints and intervals feel unattainable or unrealistic)? Either way, the music is good, the workout is intense, and it's definitely worth checking out. I wish I could give them 4.5 stars, but I'm settling for 4 simply because the price is outrageous ($33/class is actually absurd to me, so I enjoy my 3 classes a month on ClassPass and call it a day). Also, the assistants that used to refill water bottles, offer encouragement, etc no longer seem to do this-- at my last class, the guy would occasionally stand next to someone's treadmill and watch them, sweep around everyone on the floor (which is already pretty crowded-- and what needs to be swept up during the class??), or just walk around the class doing his own floor exercises. It was really, really distracting, so I hope BLAST addresses this in the future! All in all, a really great (but really expensive) workout, with awesome instructors and amenities! read more

I am admittedly a little spoiled after trying several HIIT studios across the country and while I am the most partial to Barry's (which I believe is coming to Atlanta soon), Blast was definitely a solid workout. Format is similar to many HIIT studios were you are effectively going between a cardio and strength training component every 5-10 minutes but there are a few things that I think made Blast unique: - Incline: the treadmills at Blast somehow go all the way up to a 30 incline which I have never seen before as I thought the max was 12.5 or 15. You're never at these super-high inclines for long but it definitely adds a bit of an additional challenge (in a good way) for the rest periods / brief sprints. - In-Class Concierge Person: I totally forgot what this person's actual title is but in the two classes I went to, there was a person on standby during class to help bring weights / refill your water bottle, etc. Amenities were nice & clean (complimentary water, towels, lockers) and instructors / staff were friendly. I think there definitely could be a little bit more clarification when calling out treadmill speeds / actions (seemed as if instructors used different terminology) and a slightly more intense strength training facet but nevertheless, for the pricing packages available, a good option. read more

This is by far the best and hardest workout I have found in Atlanta. What I really appreciate is the combination of cardio and toning/ strength training that doesn't happen at other area spots (Flywheel and Purebarre types). When I workout, I want to sweat and get a great workout- not socialize, and I feel like I get that here (although people are very friendly and chatty- it's obvious they are there to work out, not socialize). All the classes are different, so I am never bored, making the hour goes by faster than the 45 minutes does at Flywheel. This also makes me feel like I am getting a better deal than the shorter classes offered elsewhere. Blast full body is a really hardcore class. Marilu Venegas is my favorite instructor! She's upbeat, positive, fun but tough!! High cardio as well as some strength training... Water is provided and someone walks around refilling your bottle while you workout!! Clean place... Provides towels, shampoo, conditioner, shavers, etc The only thing I thought was sketch was that there was a missing light bulb up on the ceiling right in front of the shower... Not just a lightbulb missing but the whole socket. So there was a hole in the ceiling. Creepy. And of all places... Was there twice and it still hadn't been fixed. read more

I still come to Blast, years later, and can't see myself ever quitting entirely. Blast is the hardest, most effective workout I do, and I absolutely adore it. In the past few months, they've made some changes to the studio-- they remodeled, and it looks fabulous! They've also started making their own protein supplement, which seemed a little weird to me for a small business, but okay, sure. They've teamed up with Juicy Jenny, and you can preorder a protein smoothie before your workout so it's ready when you leave. I have noticed that their support staff isn't as strong as it used to be. They used to be neatly dressed and totally on top of things so far as the class goes. Now they seem to wear whatever (I guess, technically, they're always in workout clothes? Sort of? But sometimes it's zebra stripes and neon pink and just...huh?), behind the desk always looks like an organizational wreck, and sometimes I don't see them at all during my class. Once, I went almost the entire class without a water refill while the assistant sat on her phone in the back of the room. Still, the fact that they give you water and towels continues to be one of my favorite things about Blast. They've opened up more classes since the ones they have are filling up (unlike Orange Theory who suggests you just book two weeks out to ensure a spot!). I wrote a pretty exhaustive review of Orange Theory, comparing it to Blast, which I'll summarize by saying: Blast 900 is the better class, hands down. Better instructors, better setup, more unique exercises. That said, Orange Theory is very, very similar, much less expensive, and there's one opening up a three minute walk from my front door (Blast is a 20 min drive for me). So while Orange Theory is probably my new regular workout, I'll always continue to take classes at Blast at least once a week or so, and wish I lived close enough to justify going more often. read more

High energy, full body workout. High intensity interval training with bands, weights, and treadmill. Jermaine, the trainer kept the energy going, switching between cardio and weight training. As soon as I felt fatigued to the point of exhaustion we switched it up. Jermaine along with some great beats kept me motivated the whole class. There were two assistants helping people with form and supplying water through out the class. They greeted me and gave me a great pre-workout orientation to the gym, and stayed after class to answer my questions. read more

As so many of my reviews start, I found BLAST through ClassPass. It's the perfect mix of cardio and strength training; you go back and forth between the treadmill and floor, using tools such as a Bosu ball, dumbbells, elastic bands, etc. The instructors are great about correcting form, and Nathan, Jamal and Jordan are my favorite instructors I've taken so far. The new studio is clean and there's plenty of parking. You could easily shower here before work, as they have every type of beauty product you can think of for getting ready. A water bottle and towel are provided for each class, and the water bottle is refilled throughout the class by an assistant. Overall, I love this workout, and will continue to frequent it via ClassPass. The pricing outside of ClassPass is quite steep, but it is a top-notch workout. read more

I am 63 and have been Blasting for many years. It's been absolutely life changing. I've never been more fit and strong than i am now. I burn 530-590 calories each class. The floor work changes daily so your body never "gets used to it". If you've never been on a terra core you're missing out. The treadmill work is different each day. I'm a walker on the treadmill. You DONT have to be a jogger or runner to attend Blast. And it's not just a typical treadmill workout. You do conditioning on there too. If you're not going, you're missing out on a better quality of life you achieve by being a Blaster. GO! read more

This place is awesome. I've been coming for almost 2 years now and its just as fresh as it was in the beginning. Yes, it kills but you also have the option to go lower intensity, which (after some fitness education from a free seminar) turns out isn't so bad. Beyond the excellent workouts and customer service I love how the staff really tries and cares about your personal goals. I encourage you to pack away your fears, pick a day and come try your complimentary class. You'll like it so much you'll want to come back and now with their very affordable unlimited option you can! We are talking cheaper than gas and groceries people! I have to give a 5/5. Just because they literally have everything for you. They have all the amenities you need. Well- from what I need. I never shower at gyms - but Blast has them!! ... And comparing to other gyms I've been to so far via CP- Blast is one of the few that caters to their customers. Blast is now next to Kale Me Crazy. Also same strip as Chipotle. Parking- Amazing. There are plenty. There's no way you can't find a spot. At most you'll have to walk an extra 10 steps to get to the door. When you walk in, make sure to check in. They have showers, electronic lockers, bathrooms, and etc. Oh - the nicest part, you have your own towels and plastic water bottles. All you need to do is show up and bring your A Game. During your session, one of the members will refill your water bottle if needed. I've had Jeremy each time and he's good about it! Session- you'll have your own treadmill and work station (you'll have like 4 different items to use). You go back and forth. Some people hate/love this. I...don't mind it at all, lol. Makes me feel better after my workout. I've had Jamal and Megan (3x?) so far. Both are excellent. I have really bad form in my free weights. Each trainer is nice about it when I need to fix it. Music choice is solid here. Makes time go by faster. read more

I will not be giving Blast Buckhead a try ever again. I signed up for my first Blast experience via Classpass for a 6PM class. I left work in the middle of a meeting to make this class. I gave myself 40 minutes to go 7 miles...sounds like plenty of time right? Atlanta traffic and a summer storm got in the way and I arrived at Blast Buckhead at 5:55PM and was TURNED AWAY. Are you kidding me??? I had left a meeting early, taken back roads and hurried to make this class to be turned away. Talk about a way to lose business! They told me as a first timer you have to arrive 15 minutes early, which was my full intent until life happens and sometimes things unexpectedly change circumstances and apparently there's not a tolerance for this at Blast. What could you possibly need a full 15 minutes for? I have taken 100+ classes of this same type and caliber and was told "Our treadmills are like nothing else in the city." I have many friends who have tried it and said that is not the case, they are easily figured out. So essentially, I was turned away for arriving with 5 minutes to spare to sign a form. This is not how you grow your business and you have lost a potential client. Not to mention, word of mouth goes a long way these days. read more

I am a certified fitness instructor and I started taking this class a few months ago! This class kicks ass. I have tried flywheel, boot camp and spinning and classes at LA Fitness and this is the HARDEST. The gym is boutique and small which, has its benefits and its cons. The gym is very, very small and on the weekends it can get a little croweded. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The classes are very expensive ($33 a class) and you need to really commit to 1-2x week for it to get any easier...if you can do that (and eat healthy) you will feel great. I would recommend this class to anyone who is looking for a change in your work out :). The only complaint I have to update is the shower and locker room area is small, crowded and really not efficient. I really hope they can do some updating on the shower situation in the future. What I like most about Blast900 is that it doesn't matter what level of fitness you're at, you will always get a great workout. I see in classes people training for marathons next to people working out for the first time in years. This class will kick your ass, no matter what! The instructors are great. They are super friendly and very knowledgeable. They'll show you how to modify the exercises (say, if you can't run, bad knees, old injury, etc.), motivate the hell out of you during the workout and stay after class to answer questions. Blast900 also offers nutritional programs (You really need to learn what/when to eat) and heart rate monitor classes (Apparently, maximum heart rate is individual and cannot be calculated by some old formula. This thing literally changed the way I work out and brought some amazing results - "Work smarter, not harder" as they say in Blast ). Last thing (and what I like most about this workout) - there's no BS time. You go in for one hour and you work out for the full hour. No "30-second-slow-ass-transition" between exercises. These guys are serious and will make you work hard and take advantage of every second you're there. Highly recommend. First class is FREE! (That's how they got me hooked up). read more

Was in town and enjoy cardio + strength combination classes like these so I decided to give it a try. According to online, they want you to be there around 15 mins early which makes sense but kind of leaves a lot of dead time if you get there too early. The treadmills are pretty simple although the person who explained them to me acted like it was a complicated concept (basic incline and speed though, with a couple of extra cues that are easy to pick up on) and I didn't feel safe COVID wise there. I used the same equipment as someone else and there were no masks or cleaning throughout class. That combined with the constant switching from tread to weights every 5-10 mins is a lot. I enjoyed the class and would recommend it to someone who needs a gym setting but I can get the same difficulty of workout at home in a safer setting. read more

BLAST is awesome. The class was very upbeat (high energy music) with excellent trainers and staff. My water bottle never got low and I didn't have to worry about towels. What I thought was different from this class vs Barrys is the relatively low downtime and the ridiculously elevated treadmills. We could elevate up to 27% I believe..and best of all, the treadmills were so runner friendly (shock absorbable). I also liked how they broke up the running into smaller intervals. Overall, I thought BLAST was awesome and wish they had one in Nashville for me to frequent more often. Showed up one day 3 minutes late and they didn't let me in. Waste of time, money and NO regard or care for customer. I have tried quite a few workout classes but this is one of the harder ones I've done. I went to a Thursday night class with Kelli and it was great! It's basically a HIIT workout with a mixture of running on the treadmill and floor exercises with dumbbells, Bosu balls, and tubing. What I REALLY liked was although the workers were encouraging and motivating, they also let you go at your own pace! They had speed settings on the treadmill for walkers, joggers, and runners and if you couldn't keep up, you didn't feel like you were being a lazy sloth. I don't know about the pricing since I went through ClassPass but great workout and they provide water bottles, towels, and good amenities. Free parking outside and plenty of it. My ONLY complaint was there probably could have been a little more personal attention. I noticed a lot of people having bad form doing a lot of the exercises, especially with their neck and back during ab workouts. Being a physical therapy student, I'm always on the lookout for how people could injure themselves. The trainer, however, didn't seem to be correcting myself nor anyone else on posture and form unless someone asked a question. Overall, great workout and I will definitely be back!! read more

Here's the rundown on Blast. You walk in and everything is set up for you. You can decide whether you prefer to start on the treadmill or would rather start on the floor with weights, kettle bell, and bench. Which ever one you pick, you will end on the opposite. There is a fresh bottle of water and towel at each station. You speak with the trainer who tells you that he will buy you lunch if you vomit on the treadmill. He promises that he has bought lunch for more than a few people. The treadmill is hardcore. Handle bars above it so when you kick it up to 30% incline because the trainer tells you to you can hang on if you loose your step - you don't want to fly off the end and hit someone. You go back and forth from sprinting, running, or doing hills on the treadmill to doing floor exercises. Make sure you get on the treadmill from the side rails otherwise you might fly off when you "mount" the treadmill as it is already turned up to 9 mph. A lady walks around refilling everyone's water bottles during class. You need it because it is 60 minutes of back and forth, floor to treadmill, push yourself, vomit inducing work out time. It made me feel like the roast duck I ate the day before didn't even matter. **First visit is free. Call ahead and book a spot b/c they apparently fill up fast sometimes. It is a small space and they only have spots for 20 people. read more

Best workout in the city, best instructors, WORST cancellation policy. Don't wake up with a sick kid or a migraine bc even with 2 hours notice, you will not only be paying your monthly fee, but you will be charged $28 for canceling within 12 hours, plus Blast will get another $28 from a wait listed client. There are probably half a dozen people who would have jumped to get into this class, but instead I'm here with a migraine so I don't get charged an additional $28. I will always come back here to workout bc there is nothing else like it in Atlanta, but they need to use common sense when working with long time clients and revisit their unreasonable, inflexible cancelation policy. read more

Best full body cardio and strength training workout in Atlanta! 60 minutes of full on work. Great for anyone at any fitness level because the instructor is hands on with modifications for injuries, pregnancies, strong and less strong people. Combines intervals of cardio treadmill and floor strength to cover all muscle groups. Intervals and floor routines change daily so you always get a fresh new workout. Highly recommend! read more

Literally, got there 1 minute late coming from Lawrenceville and they told me I couldn't workout. That was a first and last for me!! Never again. Sorry Blast .... I can't always time Atlanta traffic! Took me 45 minutes to get here and now I have nothing to do. Sculpthouse would never do this. read more

Best. Workout. Ever. Blast 900 is by far the greatest workout I've ever had. It can get a bit pricey but it's worth it. The trainers and the new facility are really great. The mix between cardio and strength training keeps you on your toes and pushing at 100% for the entire hour. If you haven't tried this yet, DO IT! read more

I couldn't even think of giving Blast anything less than a 5. This has relegated my spin classes to "off" days. And I agree with the other reviewers that there are a lot of really fit men and women in attendance. I however consider that to be the best sign of all - IT WORKS! read more
