Spartak means Sports Society and Spartak ATL is certainly a family atmosphere which has scope for kids, teens, adults, fitness fanatics, serious martial artists, or beginners who just want fun. There are classes 5 days per week for both kids and adults. Adult classes are early morning and/or evenings. Spartak is not however a 'Mcdojo', so you or your kids won't be an expert in a few years like at most other styles of martial art e.g. karate, wtf taekwondo. What you do get is a very cost effective place to train, functional martial arts and fitness, camaraderie, and a far cheaper (than anywhere I know) place to spend your hard earned money. When belt promotions take place you should know that they have been earned and that you or your child are worthy of it. My kids have trained here as long as I have, both have entered competitions a couple of times and placed in medals. This is a very eclectic group of people, we have people who train from at least four continents. Our instructors are originally European and/or Brazilian but certainly promote American values. Try out Spartak, I'm sure you'll appreciate the warm friendly atmosphere and if you're an adult we even socialize regularly. Hope to see you soon.

WG Aquatic has figured out we mostly prefer oxygen to chlorine, and their fresh air system (not the official name) works. Spacious shower/changing rooms and roomy pool decks allow you some elbow room, and the upper-deck stands give spectators a great vantage point to see their favorite swimmer shave a second off that PR. The secondary pool area is a little warmer and gives space for personal workouts while the main lanes are hosting team practices. And regardless you'll have year-round swim options here. If we didn't live in the hinterlands across the city, we'd enjoy frequenting for water adventures.

She gave me a blank stare and then said oh you mean 2 race. Ok. Rude. But ok yeah that. She proceeds to ask the boys had they ever been there before. 1 of my sons friends says yes. So she goes you need to go check him on the computer with a waiver first because he has a membership so you won't pay for that part for him. Here I am thinking oh she is being helpful after being wrong. I smile. We go to computers do the waiver for 1 boy as instructed. We go back to the counter now 2 more groups have come in. We have to wait behind 1 group now since there is only one cashier/check in person although there were at least 5 other staff in the building including a manager. Anyway after we wait for that group to check in. I step back to the counter and THEN she proceeds to tell me oh you didn't do the waiver for the other two. I'm like you told me to do it only for the one that had been here before. So again we step out of line and go BACK to the computers. At this time I'm starting to get annoyed. By this time more people are coming in, so now my boys will have to wait behind several big groups when we arrived before ALL of these people. When I finally get back to the counter.....all boys are checked in. She got RUDE again. And wanted to loudly explain pricing to me and make sure I knew that the boys only got a $10 game card for what I was about to pay. Like VERY loud. I didn't hear her do this with any of the other groups that checked in before us and I hate to say this.......none of them were my complexion. Never once was I rude or matching her volume or tone. We actually walked in that place happy because we were supposed to be celebrating. Well anyway it didn't stop there. Once we got checked no instructions were given on what to do next outside of the girl at the counter giving me my receipt and their game cards. So my boys walked over to where you line up to go on the track and yet another employee was RUDE to them by telling them to back away from the gate and wait for someone to call them. They are EXCITED to be here Jeesh, so then after she yells at them they come over to me saying they not going to let her ruin the joy. They finally get called to race and all the boys are overwhelmed after the employees stopped the cars several time or slowed their speed down all during the race. Then in between their first and second race we went to their "arcade" which only has 12 games......which none of them are less than 40 credits for 1 game. $10 gets you 200 in credits. While one of the boys was in the process of playing a game they got called back for their 2nd race. It was EVEN worse than the first one. We decided to opt out of trying their food and went somewhere else to grab lunch. 0 stars would not recommend.

We played several different games like wheel of fortune, family feud, and price is right. We had so much fun. After the games we returned into the first room and had food. Krav Maga is widely recognized as an easy to learn, very effective self defense system. Military's, Swat, Police, etc. all over the world incorporate Krav Maga into their training, many make Krav Maga techniques a cornerstone of their hand to hand and weapons self defense training. It was developed by and is used by the Israeli Defense Force. Fight Quest and Human Weapon traveled to Israel to film episodes about Krav Maga. The hosts made very strong positive remarks about the system (watch these online). Several notable Krav Maga practitioners (Amir Peretz, Sam Sade, Kelly Campbell) appeared on Fight Science, where on multiple episodes Krav Maga techniques were reviewed with very positive results. Former UFC heavyweight champion, Bas Rutten, endorses Krav Maga for its effectiveness and real world application If you do a little online research, you will find a lot of good information on Krav Maga. However, In my many searches, I have never seen a negative review like the one from another reviewer. I am not sure what happened to him, but I remember this guy coming to Krav Pro for 1 Free Class. While he admits the staff is pleasant, he didn't listen to the instructors and kept doing his own thing. In fact, he spent much of the class trying to teach his training partner, not listening to the instructors despite their attempts to train and correct him. I seriously doubt his objectivity. He said he trains MMA at a gym in downtown Atlanta, which he gave 5 stars in a review last year. Reminds me of the parable of the empty cup (http://personalmba.com/preconceived-notions-empty-cup/). Many experienced martial artists will be familiar with this story and will know that many of Evan's comments do not make sense: (1) STREET SHOES - Eastern Martial arts often require students to remove their shoes before they enter the dojo / dojang - this is based upon the common Asian tradition of removing your shoes when entering someone's home (I'm Korean). There is nothing special or essential to training about it. It is a courtesy to keep the floors clean. In my traditional martial arts training we sometimes wore shoes and sometimes we were barefoot, this was usually determined by the training surface...shoes wear out mats. Even in schools where we trained barefoot, periodically we trained with street shoes to add realism. Wrestlers, Boxers, Kung Fu, TKD, Police, and the Military train while wearing shoes. (2) STANCE - Krav Maga emphasizes a fighting stance, in fact we review it in almost every level 1 class. We also train to fight from a natural stance, sometimes the fight starts when you do not expect it. I remember the instructor telling this guest not to bounce, this is a bad sparing habit that does nothing to help on the street. It does not to hurt or fool your opponent, but instead warns them of your impending attack, or worse takes you out of the fight momentarily or gives your opponent a rhythm to time their attack. Krav Maga emphasizes burst, surprise attacks, leading with your weapon (fist), the body and feet follow; economy of movement, minimizing changes to your silhouette, so your opponent has less time to anticipate / react to your attack. (3) The comment about adding the local PD on speed dial is smart, but not a substitute for self defense training. As the instructors at Krav Pro will teach you, never abrogate responsibility for your own safety, you may be the only person you can rely upon in a life or death situation. I've trained at a lot of martial arts schools, different styles, and with a variety of instructors (13+ years of traditional martial arts training) many were very good, but Krav Pro is the best. Krav Maga's principle based techniques and training methods make a lot of sense (watch you tube videos). A significant amount of thought and real world application has gone into developing and refining the techniques. The instructors will always take the time to explain why we do the techniques, the way we do them, the context, and the tactics. While most of the students start with no martial arts background, a significant percentage have extensive martial arts backgrounds. We have a lot of black belts (including a few masters) and other high belts from many traditional martial arts (BJJ, Sambo, Judo, TKD, CKD, Karate, Kung Fu, TSD, JKD, Muay Thai, Kali, etc.), these guys train at Krav Pro because they know Krav Maga really works, on the street, on the ground, against multiple attackers, against guns and knives. We also have had students at Krav Pro, that were Army Rangers, Navy Seals, Marines, active duty military that trained to prepare to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan, students that are preparing for Miliatry Basic training or the police academy, JROTC, and a significant number of active duty police officers - which alone should tell you that these techniques and tactics work! read more

Krav Maga is not a "Traditional Martial Art". No where has Krav Maga ever been called a Traditional Martial Art, as there are no Kata's or senseis, etc. Street shoes are worn because most folks wear shoes in their daily comings and goings so in the case of a fight you probably won't have time to take off your shoes and bow in. The mats at Krav.pro are kept clean and sanitary as one might do with their own floors in their home where shoes are worn as well. Krav Maga is not presented as being steeped in tradition or as being a point based fighting system, rather it is for self defense purposes for anyone. There are no sword techniques, gi's, or shrines to pray to. So when a 'traditional martial art' decides to market itself as designed for street defense to gain more students then there is an issue. Having taken several traditional martial arts while growing up, I can say from personal experience that I rarely broke a sweat while testing. It was about how smooth and clean my techniques were. This is not the case with Krav Maga. You will sweat through your clothing as you HAVE to give 100% with each punch as in a self defense setting you may only get one punch. At Krav.pro the warm-up is to there to get you out of breath and your adrenaline up so that once the teaching part of class begins you are in a more realistic situation to what you may encounter in real life. If you were to ask most folks why they sign up for a self defense class as opposed to a 1,000 year old martial art, they would say two things. To learn how to protect themselves and to get in better shape. At Krav.pro we often run drills where several people are involved and the person in the middle never gets a moments rest. By the end of the drill you are gasping for breath and the only thing keeping you going is the will to finish the fight as it were. Many of the students have lost considerable body fat because they were giving it their all. The self defense techniques found at Krav.pro include reaction based solutions. If out of the corner of your eye you see a person swinging bottle or their fist at you, then you will not have time to perform a 7 step technique from over 500 years ago. More often than not your brain goes into fight or flight mode and your hands come up to protect your face, the question then becomes what do you do next and how can you go home safe. Students can wear wrist wraps or hand protection if they would like, but when learning to punch the focus is on how to punch correctly so as not to injure one self. I myself wear wrist wraps as I have old injuries from a life well lived, but I know that in a real life situation I wouldn't be wearing them, but I know that adrenaline will kick in and I won't be thinking about my injuries, only protecting myself or my family. Richard is a GREAT teacher as are all the instructors at Krav.pro, so if you want to get in shape while learning how to protect yourself with the least amount of movements possible (I am not a flexible guy so simple is good for me), then come to Krav.pro and learn to go home safe. read more

This place is as good as it gets at teaching self defense. The facility is top notch and the instructors are knowledgeable and friendly! Also the other students make you feel welcome, even if it is your first class. I remember when I was first starting out it was hard for me to keep up but everyone was so motivating and encouraging. I read some of the other comments about this place and they are totally misleading. Someone wrote "Don't trust gyms that allow their students to wear shoes on the mat because it is unsanitary." Uhhh what?? So apparently going strictly barefoot is much more sanitary? I don't think so. Plus their training is focused towards real life situations and when something goes down more than likely you will be wearing shoes, so you might as well get used to training in them. On that note these guys also do awesome seminars and theme weeks during training. For example during one week we were encouraged to come in and train in your "normal" clothing, like work clothes and casual attire to see how it affected our ability to defend ourselves. We also did training to learn how to defend ourselves against someone who was trying to CARJACK us! How awesome is that! No other place that I have been to focuses their training this much to normal people and practical situations. Most other schools are there to strictly teach you how to become a good ring fighter against someone your size and weight. Not Krav Pro. As they say you are not trying to score points when you are in a life threatening situation, you need to Eliminate the Threat and then get away as fast as possible! I love the people here and the environment! I would recommend the training to absolutely anyone that cares about their well-being and safety and doesn't want to feel helpless if, God forbid, they ever find themselves in a situation where they would have to use this training. ps. And did I mention that they also offer fitness classes as well, so if you are a little intimidated about the Krav Maga classes, do a kickboxing class to ease your feet into the water. But honestly, there is no reason to be intimidated because everyone is so helpful! read more

Krav Pro is not only a place to learn one of the fiercest marital arts known to man but it's a place to develop friendships, an extended family, find your inner confidence, and increase your ability to protect yourself and family. I've started at Krav Pro to lose the baby weight gained during my pregnancy. I knew nothing about training any form of marital arts and I didn't have any long term marital arts goals. Fast forward 2.5 years later, I LOVE KRAV MAGA and I'm focusing on my black belt! The instructors are awesome. They motivate you during class and during your belt test. I will honestly say Big Ron has been with me during every test and his words of encouragement and motivation has help me succeed in each one. Before training at Krav Pro I felt confidence in my ability to protect myself if need be. After training there for 2.5 years I know I can truly hurt someone if ever attacked. We trained real situations that occur in every day life. **The only thing I would change is more women continuing their training after level one. Yes it's hard. Yes your body hurts in unknown places but you don't learn the fun stuff until level 2, 3, and 4. Men bring your wife/girlfriend. Train with your wife/girlfriend. If she is complaining about quality time, spend that quality time training with her at Krav Pro. This way you are spending quality time together (no more complaining) and she is learning to handle her own (you don't have to worry as much when she is out alone with the kids). My husband and I have been training together for 2.5 years and we are Green Belts. He is twice my size but I enjoy training with him. I can hold my own with him; therefore I have no worries with the streets. read more

I could not imagine going anywhere else. The instructors are very personable and very knowledgeable. I am 30 years old and feel better than I did at 20. While the warm ups which are only the first 20 minutes of class (can feel a lot longer) are very challenging at first you will be surprised at the results. After just a few weeks your cardio and over all fitness level will be greatly improved and anyone that has ever been in any kind of fight or even just watched one knows can be a huge fracture in the fight. Its my confidence level that I have seen the most improvement in I now know that not only can I protect myself but my family also. All the instructors are very good at pushing you to get the most out of class while at the same time being very aware that everyone is safe and if you can't do everything at first you don't push to hard so safety always comes first. Personally when I was looking in to different kinds of classes (mma,boxing,bjj,etc.) what made me choose Krav Maga is hearing these are the same techniques used in the training of special forces and swat teams not only here but all around the world. I can say because of Richard and everyone at Krav Maga and fitness I am healthier and more confident in myself and my ability to go home safe no matter what. I would not refer to Krav Pro as a cult, but it is a tight knit organization that anyone can be a part of. My first class hooked me instantly and that very day, and I signed up for 2 years. When that 2 years expires, I will sign up for another 2. It's true, there is a good amount of cardio/muscle confusion that goes into this class but it isn't jazzercise and I've never seen anyone on Tae Bo hit, kick or choke anyone. To anyone who's ever been in a real fight as (unfortunately I have), you already know that if your cardio isn't there you're in trouble. To those of you who know what I'm talking about, a real fight seems to go on for an hour but in actuality lasts for about a minute, maybe two. This class will way more than prepare you for that simplistic situation as well as more complicated ones like multiple attackers and weapons. If you're looking for a UFC contract, Dana White doesn't allow multiple attackers or weapons in the octagon so he doesn't regularly recruit from Krav Pro. If however you're interested in learning a practical and effective martial art and get into some sick shape, you should give it a try. read more

A month ago, I started taking Krav Maga classes, and it has been an amazing and completely new experience for me. I joined mainly because I wanted to get back in shape and also learn how to defend myself in dangerous situations. From day one, I felt really good about my decision. The classes are intense but exciting, and I can already see how I'm growing -- not just physically, but also in terms of confidence and awareness. I enjoy learning new techniques while also working out and staying strong, regardless of my age. One of the biggest things I've learned through this experience is that it's never too late to start something new, especially something that brings you joy and challenges you to grow. I can't say enough good things about Krav Pro. Not only is this a great way to work through the daily frustrations we all gather, but it is also wonderful to build self-confidence. My original concern was whether I could get a good cardio workout in a class centered around explosive movements, but the trainers keep us moving throughout the hour in class. Another concern was whether I could get the one-on-one attention I need to perform the movements correctly and not hurt myself. Not to worry, the trainers walk around in class throughout the time and gently correct AND praise. Finally, you become close with your fellow members - you develop a rapport that is often sorely lacking in a regular gym. Best of all, you leave each class with at least one move or tool or defense you could use immediately. I strongly recommend Krav Pro to anyone who is looking for a unique, new, challenging fitness plan. read more

I started at Krav Pro with the fear of being 43 and out of shape that I would not be able to handle the class or was too old. I had been a couch potato for 15 years and was finally tired of it and going to do SOMETHING! So at 271 pounds I walked in Krav Pro afraid it was going to be classes full of meat heads. I was so wrong! Gina, Megan, Bill and Richard were so supportive while I was getting started as just the warm up before class was killing me to where I had to take breaks. But now almost 7 months later I keep up with people half my age and my weight is down to 205! The classes at Krav Pro are a great workout and the most fun you can have with your clothes on! I cannot say enough good things about Krav Pro and everyone there. I've recently relocated from Olympia to the metro Atlanta area, and having practiced Krav Maga for several months prior in Olympia, I was in the market for a new club to join. I've been active my entire life and have been in and out of gyms, and various other martial arts type of places. Never in my life have I experienced a gym as horribly sexist as this. There is a crude male sense of superiority and literally no diversity within the staff. As a middle age woman it's hard to be able to relate my struggles with self denseness to men who don't understand what it's like walking down a street alone. This company would benefit so much more for training and hiring more women to teach women. I'm extremely disappointed and will be taking my business somewhere that recognizes the importance of a diverse staff. read more

Krav Pro is AWESOME! The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and want everyone to be able to walk out of that place confident and prepared for anything. This may be favoritism, but Krav Pro is exactly what I am looking for in terms of martial arts, self defense, and fitness. Richard has gotta be one of the most down to earth bada$$es of all time. He really knows his stuff when it comes to Krav Maga and he pushes me really hard to learn the techniques and become a stronger person. Bottom line, the training facility is awesome, clean, and HUGE! Krav Maga Duluth is awesome, they do a lot of character building here which I love but they also are getting the best martial arts training, so they are getting the best of both here. All the instructors and staff are very polite and welcoming. My grandson loves it here and we had tried another martial arts place a year or so before landing at Krav MAGA and he didn't last there but a month or so, he did not like it all, they were not as structured as Krav Maga and definitely not as warm and welcoming. read more

I almost forgot another excellent reason to come to Krav pro is your kickboxing crossfit training and Krav Maga training are all cover under one affordable price. Most dojo in the area charge on average approximately $135 per class. So you get a better value with top notch training at Krav pro. First class is free and you can't beat that. read more

I was a little disappointed cause sometimes we had to share with a few others. I felt that those few minutes waiting for other to punch were wasted. In addition, no moves were being taught. If I didn't have knowledge of martial arts than I would be really lost. After using all 10 of the classes, I would have to say I would not come back. It was not a bad experience but not a great one either. The place was really small. It stinks. I felt that it was not cleaned up. When doing crutches, I could smell the mats and it was stinky.

They scarred my 3 year old by chasing him while slapping the ground to make loud claps to try and get him to go faster. He was the slowest in the class because he was the YOUNGEST AND SMALLEST. He literally immediately stopped in his tracks and from that moment on hated every second and cried anytime "karate" was mentioned. Every time I would bring him it felt like I was torturing him because he had legit fear and I could see it in his eyes. When I said I was canceling his they said they understood and it was fine but then continued to charge me. Master Miron said he would reimburse and make sure it was canceled but never did. Then my oldest wanted to stop because his brother wasn't doing it with him and I wasn't about to force a 4 year old to do something he truly didn't want to do. When I told them I wanted to cancel both o was suddenly told "oh, you actually signed the 12 month agreement and are obligated to pay for the whole year." EXCUSE ME?! they have my signature on a piece of paper that I was falsely informed of while they took advantage of me having an 18 month old with me as well, always busy and never able to sit and talk about any contract. Never in a million years would I sign a 3 and 4 year old up for a 12 month contracted class. THEY ARE THE WORST. ONLY SEND YOUR ENEMIES HERE.
