During our weekend in the Hill Country my wife saw this winery and decided to try it. From the road you can see a small castle like building on land! Very interesting concept . Upon entry it is very esentric with colors and the decor. They have a huge outdoor patio over looking the trees and landscape for you to enjoy your wine from. We did a wine tasting there to see what they have. I did an all red tasting and my wife did a mix of red, white, and semi sweet. The employees were very friendly and prompt. I enjoyed my red tasting for the experience. I do find that they do not have many full bodies wines Was a good experience but not for my palate! read more

Love this place! They have some yummy wines, so yummy I joined the wine club. Jeff was amazing, we came in on a slow day and we had him all to ourself. They had some lovely non-alcoholic wines for my hubby, which was a definite plus. Such a cool medieval atmosphere inside , and the view out the back is incredible. I have yet to come and have a negative experience. If there was one... They didn't serve pizza this last time, on a weekday( they didn't anticipate my want to come of the deadest day of the week :P). I had to get one of their filling charcuterie boards with the couple of glasses of wines. The bartender was apologetic and even though we were the only ones there this past visit, they were attentive, yet gave us space. Appreciative of the perfect service. Would recommend 100%. read more

Friends and I enjoyed a very cool tasting experience at this winery. First of all the building is shaped like a castle, and the inside decor follows the same theme which helps create a very festive atmosphere. The wines are tasty and well priced and the service is excellent. I must highlight the delicious alcoholic slush. It is a must try and they give free samples. Next stop 290 wine castle! We passed this place on the way to our original destination. We decided to stop by and do a wine tasting. The outside made us feel like we were abroad again. When we went inside it was very cute. We let staff know that we wanted to do a wine tasting for three. The wine tasting run $25 per person. We all choose to do the sweet wines. We were told to sit wherever we wanted. We chose a small sitting area that had a table. We did order a veggie pizza to eat while we enjoyed our drinks. The first wine we tasted was AMAZING! Each wine got better with the exception of the dessert wine. The dessert wine was extremely sweet and did have nice notes to it. The sangria and prickly pear combo was the star of the show. I'm not a huge sangria fan but this one was great! The pizza was super good. The crust was thin and crispy. Sauce was good. We enjoyed our experience here. They did have a tour bus that pulled in after so it was a bit busy (Texas winos). There are a couple or wine tours that stop through here. Our waitress was as attentive as she could be considering the amount of traffic coming through. Overall this is the place to visit for us. We enjoyed the sweet wine and even bought one to go. This place is honestly a 10/10, it's very cute inside (even the bathrooms are pretty and clean) the girl working the bar is super kind and knowledgeable about wine, I told her exactly my tastes and she was able to give me a flight where one was better than the other to the point where I loved all of the wines. Their frozen drinks are also super good and refreshing in the Texas heat. We couldn't go to the upstairs because it's for members only but we were able to go to the patio and since it was a weekday essentially had the whole place to ourselves. One of my favorite places! Neat winery. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Inside the place has vast seating options and a great outdoor area. They also have a dungeon, you schedule a tasting online. We didn't know..otherwise we would have done it. They have several rooms you can reserve for a bigger group of 6 or so..; for those that like cigars they have a cigar collection you can pick from too. Will definitely be coming back! read more

This place is AMAZING! A castle in Texas that serves wine?! Oh my gosh, what a great concept! We got the girls together for a day trip to hill country and had an absolutely great time. The interior is decorated tastefully keeping the medical theme in mind. There are dragons, armor, a butler and other cool wall hangings. There's a covered patio area overlooking the vineyards and it was breezy until late afternoon so we didn't overheat even though it was a hot summer day. Wine tastings are $25 for 5 pours and you can choose between reds, whites and sweet wines. Our server was super nice and allowed us to mix and match so we got to try a few different varieties of wine. They were all tasty and got us th right bit of tipsy. Charcuterie cheese board and veg pizza were nice food pairings for us. A big shoutout to our server who went the extra mile and brought the wine tastings to the patio even though they usually only offer those at the bar. Really nice winery. I really enjoyed the vibe of the castle and every detail inside makes the experience so much better. We did two different tastings, the Mixed Sweet Tasting and the Dry Sparkling & Still Tasting. Each tasting has a cost of $25 and it includes 5 different wines to taste. My personal favorites were Don Dulce and the frozen sangria which was made with Bountiful and pomegranate. The La Destinée - Rosé was another favorite. We also had the meat lovers pizza (not pictured) which was soooo good! The crust was phenomenal, crunch but fluffy. Each pizza comes in one size, 8 slices. They also have a reservation only tour of the downstairs dungeon which I believe included 5 tastings of wine, chocolate truffle, and cheese. It is a dimly lit experience for you to be able to use your senses to taste. Cost for this is $39. We didn't have time to try this experience but we definitely plan on coming back to do it. Worth a stop! We were in the area, stopped in on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, stayed 2 hrs, and had a great time. Carolyn our server was phenomenal! My wife and I each tried a tasting flight. I tried the mixed sweet tasting, she tried the dry sparkling. We liked the mixed sweet tasting flight best. Our mutual favorite was the "Dulcezza XXIII" orange flavored muscat. Very unique, complex & slightly sweet. We liked the muscat so much we purchased 2 bottles to go. The peach flavored "Sweet Sunrise" Pinot Gris was good. Well balanced, slightly dry- superb! My wife really enjoyed her Italian Glera vineyards Prosecco "Frizante", but didn't enjoy the rest of her flight much. Their covered patio offers spectacular views of the hill country. Ample seating and live music this Saturday afternoon. Club membership offers nice perks including sizable discounts and members only parties with free food. If you join their wine club you have access to their dungeon tasting rooms as well as their rooftop and roof torret rooms for reserve. read more

The server we had, which I believe was one of the owners, would not, or could not tell us anything about the wine we were tasting and scurried away when asked any questions. My friends and I were having a good time and saw this really interesting castle. It turned out to be a winery place, so we stopped by to try out a few drinks. It was pretty crowded at the time we arrived, and we ended up seating in the lounge area. They did let us order food and drinks there, so that was cool. Our waitress was awesome. She was very friendly, helpful, and was able to get all of our drinks and food to us very quickly. We decided to try the dungeon tasting for the sweet wines (they serve you 5 drinks you can try for $25). They also offer dry and red wines too if you prefer that. I personally liked the frozen sangria the best out of the 5 I had. It was very sweet and delicious and was great with our pizza. We ordered a veggie pizza which was good too. I think I would have liked it a bit more cooked and some more veggies on top with the price we bought it though ($27). Overall, it was definitely a good experience, and I did have fun. If I were to come back again, I think I would look to arrive when it's not as busy but had a good time regardless. read more

This is always one of my favorite stops on my yearly wine bus tour to the Hill Country. How many places do you know that has their own dungeon? The wine is delicious but I was already a few glasses and our bus only gave us 30-45 mins here, so I opted for one glass. The Sweet Sunrise was delightful on a hot Texas day and very heavy on the sweetness and peaches. A must try for anyone who wants a bubbly sweet drink. Their flight options are also great, so if it's your first time, I suggest you get one of their flights and take a walk outside to their patio area. This is one of my absolute favorite wineries! The castle is so cool and unique compared to the other wineries. You get great views and photo ops all around the winery. The staff were very friendly and very knowledgeable. Great place for sweet wines if you are a sweet wine drinking. Wine in a CASTLE?!! Such a cool experience!! A castle in Texas hill country is absolutely what brought us here and we felt the vibe was so fun and unique! We opted for a glass of red (Pinot noir) which we felt was decent but not our favorite. However, the staff member helping us was very friendly and super helpful for letting us try a few! You can also do tastings for $25 (5 pours). They also serve pizzas here as well. We loved being able to roam around the castle with our wine in the different themed medieval rooms. They also have a dungeon that can be reserved/is for wine club members along with a rooftop! They also mentioned they have a hotel connected where rates go for about $250 for a room and double for a suite. Long overdue review (sorry team!). Came here for my birthday on a Saturday (1/21) with a group of 10 of us. We did the underground Dungeon Chocolate & Wine Pairing Experience! This whole experience was such a vibe. Well worth the $39pp to have their wine guru walk us through their wines that truly paired so well with the chocolates! The best part is we were in the dark for this so you really got to immerse yourself in the experience. The dungeon was truly unique with the medieval to spooky Halloween-type decorations. What we really loved were the cool lasers and lights they had set up everywhere. I also liked how they let me pair my music to their speaker so our group could enjoy some good tunes with our pairing. They also held our cake for us which was super nice. The whole staff is extremely pleasant. Margeaux was exceptionally patient, kind, and helpful via email with my questions leading up to the event. The whole crew thought the castle was so much fun when they got to check out the deck. We actually visited the castle about a month prior and we got to check out the rooftop which was another amazing experience. We ended up purchasing a few bottles to take home, which are also very reasonable. We look forward to our next visit here. read more

This place reminds me of the area in Germany that is a whole region of castles, the Rhine Valley. It is cool to see that something like that can be found in Texas. We (mom, sis, and myself) saw this amazing castle from the road on our way to Fredericksburg. We HAD to stop!! It is a really cool castle! Not much to offer food wise as they only make pizza on Friday-Sunday. We decided to order the frozen sangria after having a little sample and the lady who waited on us brought it out to us with the plastic cup barely filled. She seemed to be having a problem with the machine and getting sangria out. She said she'd bring us more out but never did. Since it was $9 a cup, I went back in and asked for more which she cheerfully obliged however she should have checked back with us on that. We got a cheese and charcuterie board and it was so good. We sat outside and really enjoyed the view. When we were about to leave, I asked could we look around the place and was told yes. My sister and I started to enter the "Dungeon" and another employee stopped us and said we couldn't go down there unless escorted but did not offer to escort us. Im not a wine drinker but for my friend's bday we took a trip to Texas Wine Country. She wanted to try this place mostly for the ambience as it does look like a castle. I've got to say that pizza was flipping amazing! Only downfall is they do have a very large furry black dog that kind of roams around, who is very friendly and sweet, but he decided to takeoff with half our pizza, however they handled it perfectly and brought us a whole brand new pizza. We also then moved from one of the lower chair tables, to the bar style seating. Being that I'm not a wine fan I drink the Prosecco which we actually ended up buying a bottle of when we left. Overall good experience, would recommend a stop if your passing thru Johnson City headed to Fredericksburg, but not my favorite stop we made. My friend and I stopped by here after seeing it on our way to Fredericksburg. We had no idea what it was but were thrilled to find out it was a winery! We decided to do a tasting so we could sample a variety of wines. I wish this place had more food options (they have pizza but only F-Sun). The patio was gorgeous and although most of the tasting are done inside, we asked to be outdoors so we could better enjoy the view. Personally, I enjoy tasting that are poured at your table but it didn't seem like that was the case here. The wine itself was okay. Picked this place to stop while visiting TX. It has an interesting building, grounds and the interior is neat . We arrived a few minutes early and had to wait for the gates to be opened. We were greeted promptly inside and offered the wine tasting packages. While we tasted the wines we looked around at the decorations , I loved the dragons . They have an inviting patio with a great view. Their wines were not really to our liking , but not everyone likes the same wines. That is the beauty of wine. My lady made reservations for me and two friends at $20 each for a nice afternoon of wine tasting. We were seated on the patio and ordered the wine tasting, a half charcuterie board and their "wood-fired veggie supreme" pizza. Before I get into it, I'll list the positives: The bathrooms were very clean, views were nice, and the staff was very friendly. For a wine tasting in Texas hill country, we expected more local wines to be showcased but were given an underwhelming spread to try out from different countries. There wasn't anything we tasted that compelled me to buy a bottle--but what really stood out was the advertised wood-fired pizzas. Anyone who was paying attention to how the pizzas were being cooked would have noticed that they were NOT cooked by wood fire but instead cooked in their gas heated oven on the patio. Granted the pizza could feed four guests easily, (you'd hope so at $25 per pizza) the toppings on the supreme veggie pizza consisted of just a small dice of raw tomatoes, bell peppers, tomato sauce, and cheese. You would think someone in the kitchen might consider adding some spinach or artichokes or maybe grill the peppers or roast the tomatoes! I may be spoiled because I've had some great pizza in my life, but damn that pizza was sad! Here's a tip, 290 wine castle--look into overnight fermentation for your pizza dough. Can you not taste how bland your product is? I won't be coming back or recommending this spot unless medieval armor goes on discount. read more
