A friend and I went to the Christmas Market on 12/7. We bought a bottle of wine to share as we strolled from vendor to vendor. Wine was delicious and the grounds have plenty of trees and seating. Live music that day. I will be returning.

Ab Astris is a fantastic family owned vineyard that is a testament to the passion behind winemaking and running an operation full of heart, soul, blood, and sweat. Everything is made on property by the family, with all Texas fruit, no exceptions. The winery sits on several acres off the beaten path- quiet, with occasional live music and an educated staff eager to suit your needs. All the wines are silver to gold medalists, with whites, rosés and reds that appeal to all dry wine drinkers. There is something for everyone here, including a space for pups and kiddos if you need it!

When I made our "hit list" of wineries not to be missed near Fredericksburg, Ab Astris was at the very top of my list. I can easily share that it did not disappoint!! This is a winery you simply must stop at if you're out in the hill country. This place is special. It's got gorgeous vines everywhere with a beautiful patio and shop. We got a charcuterie board to snack on while we did our scheduled tasting appointment. Every single wine they brought us was exceptionally tasty and beautifully bottled, but what really made me happy was the warmth and knowledge of the tasting staff. Our server knew so many stories about each bottle and really shared with us the passion the winemaker put into the work. I absolutely loved the Cab Franc and their signature white. We loved it so much we ended up just joining their wine club so we can keep supporting this small business. It's truly well worth your time to stop in and have a glass or a tasting if you're in the area. The wines really lived up to their award winning reputations, but the grounds are beautiful and the staff is divine.

This is such an awesome place! The wine is delicious, the staff very friendly and the atmosphere is the best. We have always been lucky to be able to relax under the trees and enjoy the views.

Taylor made our wine tasting experience memorable! Very knowledgeable in his wine and very personable. The wines are very good and is well worth searching out and experiencing. Beautiful and peaceful tasting room.

    They serve charcuterie boards!

We all know Fredericksburg is the heart of Texas Hill Country for wine but I am willing to put my name on it that Ab Astris Winery will most likely be your favorite winery to visit on your trip. Our group of friends had been wine hopping around Fredericksburg and the best was truly saved for last, here! To be honest if we only did Ab Astris the whole time, I would've been more than happy with it. We actually skipped the option of visiting another winery after because we were enjoying ourselves way too much. This winery is family run and operated. The whole gang is involved and even lives on the property. Their passion for wine and hospitality is evident and I almost felt like I was part of the family. With ample parking you'll easily get your group situated and will enter the front doors of the tasting room. The AC is on full blast and it's so open! Can easily hold 75 people with plenty of comfort still inside the tasting room. There is a wide variety of wines and they do offer a wine tasting that goes for $15 a person. Their pours are heavy so you get your money's worth. Since we were a large group think 20+ people they were super sweet and allowed our group to have their tasting to outside. They actually came to us as we sat down and enjoyed the shaded area of all their beautiful trees. You can spend hours on on their shaded patio but I recommend the trees. It's so calming and a nice detachment from reality. I have to say they probably have some of the most beautiful views around in the area. When we had gone they actually had just launched their Rosé and I was living for it. We kept ordering glasses and bottles of it and the group was in love with it. Their whole portfolio honestly was superb and one of the best out in Fredericksburg. Bathrooms are located on the right hand side of the building but their indoors, very well kept, and super clean (a/c as well). Ab Astris is Latin for "stars are aligned" and I wholeheartedly agree they were. I'm planning to bring my parents up for a trip just for this spot. Fun Fact is the winery is on land from Lyndon B Johnson's original estate.

Chill winery with a wonderful shaded front porch where you can look out over a pasture full of wildflowers, listen to the birds sing, and shoot the breeze while sipping a quality glass of wine. The location is perfect - just a short drive off of U.S. 290, yet far away from the Saturday madness of the wineries on U.S. 290. On our second visit, the staff immediately recognized us from our first visit. I found that impressive, as I've belonged to some other wine clubs for years where I've never been recognized by any staff member. Get here before the wine limos and bachelorette party groups discover it! (I'm not yet a member of the Ab Astris wine club yet, but considering it). They have grapes growing on the property, but they seem to rely heavily on Texas High Plains grapes, like many other area wineries. My favorite is the Montepulciano, followed by the Tempranillo and Tannat (I'm a red lover, by the way).

Ab Astris is NOT on the wine tasting passport, came here buy accident, it was a decent drive I was a bit upset about the mix up and Texas wineries for not being more transparent about about participating wineries for the Christmas affair. The owner was very accommodating after hearing about my debacle, looking forward to tasting the wines, so far the review is just about the customer service.

They ain't clowning how good this wine is!

What an amazing place! Incredible wine, incredible staff, and such a pretty setting. They are one of the fastest growing wineries in the hill country with all Texas wine. They've recently released some new estate vintages and they are AWESOME. you'll react just like this (pic) when you have them!

Thanks taylor for the good wine tasting. You made our trip amazing. He was a GREATTTTTT time thanks

Taylor was our wine tasting server. He was very nice.!!! 10/10 recommend this place. The wine was very good. -fremins

I am able to get a glass to go while waiting on my reservation at Martini's or carry it with me as I tour the various events at Market Plazt. Most of the wines you find at the Stonewall location will be available at the tasting room downtown, however I am told that as the bottle new wines and some vintages may only be available at the Stonewall location. If you want to relax and purchase a bottle, that's an option as well. I absolutely LOVE the new location. Having late night hours on the weekends is HUGE for me and those who are looking for a late night location that offers 100% Texas wines. That is one of my favorite things about Adega Vinho. During a safari, they…read morewitnessed the tragedy of rhino poaching, an experience that inspired them to get involved in conservation and create a sanctuary. Their 55-acre property became a home for Blake, their Texas-born rhino. And there is a winery here, too! Since opening in '22, it has become a natural extension of their passion for fine wine and a meaningful way to support their conservation efforts. The estate now includes nearly 10 acres of Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Merlot, & Malbec. With most vines in their 4th leaf, estate TX wines are still on the way, but visitors can already enjoy excellent Texas wines made from High Plains fruit along with South African ones. The McPhersons have helped craft many of the Texas wines, while Dr. Bob Young has contributed red wines aged in Texas oak. A team of South African winemakers helps support wines made from the Stellenbosch, Elgin, and the coastal area. The tasting room and back patio offer spacious seating, beautiful views of the Pedernales Valley, and direct views of Blake. The north-facing wine tasting patio is an extra plus design to have, especially with the Texas summer heat. For your testing selection, you'll have a list to choose from. For this tasting session a mix of South African & Texas (both reds & whites) were sampled. Starting off with the Sumatran Sparkles, this South African sourced bubbly is Pinot Grig based with notes of honeysuckle and citrus. Next from SA was their Wijde Sparkling. This white bubbly was blended with 53% Chard, 46% Pinot Noir, & 1% Pinot Meunier. It expressed itself with a floral aroma coupled with acidity and a bit of pear. Following that were two of the Crash label brands. Both Pinotage based, with the dry version a nice and light easy drinking wine featuring notes of strawberries with bright acidity. The sweet Pinotage bubbly version (lightly sweet) exhibited more of a cream sensation with a touch of cherries. Moving on to white wines, the first sipped was the '24 Albariño. This TX white wine has some good pineapple notes giving a pleasant tropical finish. The next white was the Texas High Plains 2025 Viognier. Sourced from Lahey, this one was quite impressive with apricot and lemon. The next Texas red was the '24 Horn Red Blend. This High Plains sourced fruit, comprised of 40% Malbec, 25% Dolcetto, 25% Sangiovese, & 10% Petite Sirah, had notes of clove and cherry going for it with even tannins and acidity. Texas Mourvèdre has been making big waves in the Texas wine industry, and their 2023 vintage has Grenache blended with it to yield an intense fruit forward wine with blackberry to satisfy the nose and palate. The final TX red wine sampled was the '24 Sangiovese. With cherry, raspberry, and a touch of spice, this classic Italian varietal was quite satisfying. For the South African red wines, the '22 Cab Franc was the first to sip. Part of the winery's Keras collection, this bold wine was loaded with big tannins and had a firm mouth gripper! Following that were two '22 Cabernet Sauvignons. One was also from the Keras collection with deep cocoa and raspberry notes and a fine tannic finish. Not quite as bold, but still big, the other Cab wine displayed more blackberry and plum notes with a bit of leather. Rounding out the tasting adventure was the '23 Five Species. This Bordeaux style blend had Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Malbec, and some Petit Verdot blended to craft a well-balanced, smooth, and elegant wine to savor all evening. With a long family history in the Hill Country spanning more than a century, Craig & Chesney are adding their own chapter to the region's evolving story. The estate offers one beautiful surrounding scenery, dedicated up-close viewing sessions with Blake, and local artwork displayed throughout the tasting room. At its heart, this place is a true rhino conservation effort, strengthened by excellent wines from South Africa and Texas that help support the mission. It is a unique gem in the Texas Hill Country. Cheers!
