Made our way out to Fredricksburg. Not going to lie. Thought I was going to someone's farmhouse as we pulled into this winery. We passed a couple of cows that weren't fenced in casually minding their own business and beautiful long horns (those were fenced in) Ordered wine tastings from here and had a lovely server. He gave us details on each of the wines. One that caught my eye was the one that had an almost orange ish tint. The tasting was so good. The standout for me was the Tempranillo. The vibe was so nice here, relaxing and they even have a treehouse area you can rent out if you have a larger party. Overall great place to visit and you must try the Tempranillo!

Reserved a private tasting in the tree house for my birthday and the view didn't disappoint! We went around 1pm in September and there was a pleasant breeze the whole time. The treehouse is built beautifully surrounding a big oak tree! Just gorgeous. We had Andy leading our tasting and he was spectacular. Very knowledgeable on wine - I learned details about variety of grapes, wine stoppers, methods of culturing, and most of all - the best wines for different environments! He really made our visit memorable and contributed much to the experience. We arrived a bit early to our reservation so we hung out at the Pavilion and met with Bryan! He was hospitable and told us the history behind the property and timeline of the vineyard. We purchased three bottles to take home (Albariño, Tempranillo, and Sangiovese), they were carefully packaged in a special cardboard box with a handle. We purchased the charcuterie board for two and this is the only area I felt could use some improvement in terms of presentation! I'd recommend the private treehouse sitting for birthdays, bachelorettes, date night or girls night out. Reserved a private tasting in the tree house for my birthday and the view didn't disappoint! Great venue and awesome Texas Hill Country estate wines. Friendly family owned and operated winery. Schedule a tasting in the treehouse or just hangout in the pavilion and take in the view.

Great intimate experience. This was everyone's everyone's favorite winery of the day. I am giving it 5 stars because everyone liked the wines and the setting, but personally I was not a fan of the wine. I do not like that they don't distill their wines so there is a lot of sediment in the bottles. I am use to my Napa wines like Silverado and Miner and this just couldn't come close to comparing. But you really go for the experience and our host was fantastic!

Came here with a group of 6 friends and opted in for the treehouse tasting. The tasting was great, very informative, and loved the private elevated area. It's very shady which is great for warmer weather. We each walked away from the tasting purchasing at least one bottle each - so I highly recommend all the wines. I would personally skip the charcuterie add-on. It was one small plate for 6 people. Bring your own snacks, stay, and enjoy the wine and live music.

Andy was the best guide ever!!! The wines were delicious and the view is amazing. I was very pleased with the experience and we bought 3 bottles of wine, became a member, and our wine tasting was complimentary.

Family owned 100% Texas grapes! Outstanding wines and beautiful vineyard. We really enjoyed our time there.

    The tasting

The tree house wine tasting is an experience you must do! You'll get awesome service, personal attention, stories of the history of the family land and wine maker. The wine is very good. We had a charcuterie board with our experience. It was a treat to taste great wine overlooking the acres of grapes which were used to make the wine while shaded by the beloved family tree.

View from the pavilion. Tree top deck in the background on the right. Part of the vineyards on the left.

Look no further, this winery is AMAZING!!! Family-owned and operated with amazing wines. Such a peaceful and gorgeous venue -- perfect for a romantic date or group outing. My husband and I booked a tasting for our anniversary and had the BEST time. We were initially disappointed that the tree top was booked, but we ended up LOVING the beautiful new pavilion. We learned so much about Texas wines and purchased several bottled after our tasting. Book now before everyone finds out about this place!

Mr. Crowson (the father of Henry Crowson - the owner and winemaker, who might be a co-owner but is definitely very involved at the winery) welcome us in for a wine tasting. Since we were the only people there, it ended up being a very private, personal experience! Mr. Crowson tried the wines with us and talked to us about each. He also told us about the Crowson's non-interventionist approach to winemaking. If you enjoy or are interested in natural wine, low/no intervention wine, orange wine, or any other term that's being used right now, Crowson should definitely be on your list for a day or weekend of wine tasting in the 290/Fredericksburg/Johnson City area! (I am a fan of the low/no intervention movement, and I knew I wanted to visit Crowson when we were in the area! It's the most natural/low-intervention of all wineries in the area that I am aware of!) The wines we tasted were interesting and delicious and varied (not a tasting where all the wines take remarkably similar). The space is charming, beautiful, and very comfortable, and Mr. Crowson played some great records during our visit which added even more fun to the experience! And of course, the customer service couldn't get better than a personal tasting with Mr. Crowson, who made this a very special visit. This is a smaller winery, so I recommend you reach out to them to schedule a visit, so you can be sure they are there and open. Because you don't want to a miss a visit to this very special winery.

Crowson came highly recommended from our friend who lives in Austin, so we made a reservation for 6 people on a Saturday for a wine tasting. They are taking Covid precautions, everything was socially distanced, our tasting was outside (and thankfully they had heaters so we were quite nice and warm), and everyone was wearing masks! The wine was absolutely delicious and we all loved the wine we had here. One of only two places in Texas that has natural wines (nothing added). This is a very cozy, homey, winery- they make you feel so welcome, are very gracious and just a fun time ! Henry and his dad were a delight. Highly recommend this place!

I'm a sucker for rosé, so I ordered a glass and it ended up being one of the best I've had from a Texas winery. He launched his own wine brand after the birth of his daughter in 2012, Tatum Rose - and thus began the next chapter in his winemaking career. With a focus on single-vineyard and Rhône varietals, Joshua has become well recognized for his quality wine production. Many long-time Texas wine fans will also remember the 2012 Hotspur, with the gorgeous wine label - just might have a bottle or two left in the cellar library! In the beginning, you could find Josh's wines at a few pop-up events which were great to attend and chat with the winemaker as you sampled his small batch produced wines. It has been a very long time coming, but the small boutique winery tasting room in Johnson City is a great addition to this journey. What was once a barbershop (which still has some of that décor) has now become the go-to tasting room for Tatum Cellars in this quaint vintage building in the downtown Johnson City square. There are currently five wines to sample. All wines on the list are currently single vineyard, plus all Texas Hill Country fruit. Production is just around 1000 cases per year, so the hands-on and personal quality checks are all there. The first bottle sampled was the 2023 Trois Étoiles. This classic Rhône style blend was crafted from Uplift Vineyard fruit and is a blend of 63% Marsanne, 21% Viognier and 16% Roussanne. It is well balanced and quite refreshing with notes of stone fruit, good acids, and a bit of minerality. Next to sample, was the 2024 Rosé of Carignane. This newbie on the list was whole cluster pressed from Spicewood Vineyards with a very beautiful nose followed by a crisp and refreshing wine. An ecxcellent wine for warm weather days. Moving to the red wines, the first to sample was the 2020 GSM. Oh my... this mighty beast is loaded with robust flavors, good acids and is very well balanced. The Grenache (60%) was sourced from Uplift Vineyard and the Syrah and Mourvèdre (20% each) came from Salt Lick Vineyards for this super fine GSM. The next red wine sampled was the 2020 Syrah. For this vintage, the fruit was left hanging on the vines longer than normal and it underwent extra maceration and had a "splash" of Mourvèdre added to it. It has very nice smoky notes to it along with natural tannins to dance across your palate for that big mouthfeel satisfaction. Rounding out this fantastic tasting experience was the 2020 Mourvèdre sourced from Salt Lick Vineyards. Sitting at 15.4% abv, this high alcohol wine is well integrated with spicey notes and a touch of nuttiness on the finish. This wine was made with Montepulciano skins as part of the process for a little extra full feel and color for this wine. Everything on the tasting menu is take home worthy. You might also notice the collection of vinyl records in the corner and LP player as you sip and savor both the wines and the music collection. This small tasting room has a well shaded backyard area for that little feel of Hill Country outdoors enjoyment to compliment the classically cool inside décor. As a bonus, they are open till 8pm! You will get the vibe of how this place fits in well with the small town feel that still lingers in Johnson City when you stop in and enjoy a visit. The team is friendly, and the space is hip. It's a great place to sip, relax, and enjoy your favorite record music and wine pairing. Cheers!

The tasting room has been open for about four months, but owner and winemaker, Gary Hahne, has been making wine for a lifetime. Gary is a Texas Hill Country Native and his family roots date back to his great grandparents who immigrated to the Stonewall area from Germany. His parents were close friends to LBJ and Lady Bird. The Hahne surname in German translates to the English word rooster, which ties to the colorful rooster found on the winery's logo. There is no tasting fee to sample the four dry wines, and one sweet Sangria style wine on the tasting menu. Each bottle of wine tells a different story of the Hahne family and the surrounding hill country. As you sip and savor the flavor of the well balanced, delicious, palatable wines. You can walk around the winery and enjoy the historic pictures of the Hahne family, and hear about the family and area history. I had the great pleasure of being able to talk with Gary himself about his amazing family heritage. I enjoyed all of the five wines. This was a softer red, fruit forward, but well balanced with lingering notes. I also very much enjoyed the dry rose that is named after Gary's grandfather, Opa.
