    LOVE these wines!!
    Angie G.

We LOVE their wines and amazing view of the Hill Country! I wanted to try them all so my husband and I both did different tastings. Came home with a lot of delicious wines! Ask for Jeremy, he'll make your time there perfect with his extensive knowledge of their wines and his great personality.

My friends and I visited a few wineries on our Fredericksburg trip back in March 2023 and our first stop was Pedernales Cellars. The property is very beautiful and the views of the Hill Country are nice! We booked a private room. Brenna was our server for our tasting. She did a great job of explaining the wines. We had a choice of doing a mixed tasting or a red wine tasting. I opted for the mixed tasting as I like both red and white. I don't recall all of the wines that I tried, but I did end up buying a bottle of the Texas High Plains Lyla. We also were able to take a home a souvenir wine glass. Afterwards, we were able to enjoy a picnic on the front lawn under the oak trees. We brought our own lunch because they only offer snacks (cheese, nuts, and chocolate). We all really enjoyed Pedernales and it was a great way to start our day!

    Nice spring day with friends

Stopped here again and really like the outside area of this winery. It is a great view of the Hill Country and this spring day was perfect outside. We each got a glass and I got the 2019 Texas Tempranillo Reserve. It is a solid wine to sip on as we laughed and enjoyed each others company.

Consistently the best wine in Fredericksburg for dry red and white wines. The view is beautiful with big trees, a shaded patio, strings of lights, and big windows to showcase the surroundings. We did both types of tastings, and the dry red one is definitely worth the extra $15 if you have another person with you to order the mixed flight (which has the best of both worlds). They offer a 15% discount on cases of 12, and there's a long waitlist to be a member for 20% and access to exclusive wines. We bought our favorites and can't wait to try them with food! I will say the prices, especially member prices, are quite high and so these wines are definitely for souvenir purposes rather than an everyday purchase. The "taste guide" gave us thorough background into each wine and accommodated our large group. This was my second time and will definitely keep this in rotation for next time!

I did a tasting here and it was wonderful! The day was quite nasty weather wise and we sat inside. Very nice ambiance, brightly lit, lots of room. Incredible service, our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. I bought a bottle and will definitely be back!!

Enjoying an award winner in beautiful Hill Country Texas.

After some online research, we were led here. Having a party of 11, we made reservations for a tasting, highly recommended to get a taste of all of it. However, this was the priciest of our tastings in the region. Our tasting started out a little stressful as a large group is always a little hard. But our wine guide, Forbes, quickly warmed up to our quirky group. He provided a wealth of information about the wines, the club, the history, his favorites, and lots of fun local information. He really ended up being a hoot! I can see why the wines are award winning. Partial to reds, I truly enjoyed the award winning North Block - i equate it to a Thanksgiving-worhty wine. Then the property......the porch was nice with a good guitar player. I wandered around the property. It was a gorgeous day, filled with my favorite wine in hill country.

Great winery! Service was excellent and our wine master was very knowledgeable and charismatic. We had the tasting to share and then went with our favorite glass to enjoy outside on their patio. They also have an indoor bar seating area. Highly recommend!

I stopped at this winery on a reference from a friend. This location was about 5 minutes away from the main highway but still easy to find since is the only big thing on that road. You can't miss it! I went on a Monday so there was not crowded at all. They tend to be busy towards October and November and on the weekends. I only saw 3 other cars in the parking lot! It felt i had the whole place to myself It was around 1 pm that I stopped in and there were two servers at the winery. I tried the sampler which came with 5 wines and you get to keep the wine glass for about $25. I personally like sweet wine but if you like semi-dry this is a good place to start. The wines they sell have won various awards thru the state and some in the country I believe. Like I mentioned earlier there were only like 3 people there and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time when a reporter for a local radio came into the winery doing a special report on tourist and the wine business. I got interviewed by him about what brought me to the winery, what part of the state i was from, what my favorite wine was etc. I guess that makes me famous now guy! haha It was too hot for me to go wandering and explore the grounds so I got my things and headed to the next winery. Overall this is a good winery that really did not disappoint, very laid back atmosphere.

    The end of the tasting.

One trip changed a lot for owners Craig Stevens and Chesney Castleberry. During a safari, they…read morewitnessed the tragedy of rhino poaching, an experience that inspired them to get involved in conservation and create a sanctuary. Their 55-acre property became a home for Blake, their Texas-born rhino. And there is a winery here, too! Since opening in '22, it has become a natural extension of their passion for fine wine and a meaningful way to support their conservation efforts. The estate now includes nearly 10 acres of Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Merlot, & Malbec. With most vines in their 4th leaf, estate TX wines are still on the way, but visitors can already enjoy excellent Texas wines made from High Plains fruit along with South African ones. The McPhersons have helped craft many of the Texas wines, while Dr. Bob Young has contributed red wines aged in Texas oak. A team of South African winemakers helps support wines made from the Stellenbosch, Elgin, and the coastal area. The tasting room and back patio offer spacious seating, beautiful views of the Pedernales Valley, and direct views of Blake. The north-facing wine tasting patio is an extra plus design to have, especially with the Texas summer heat. For your testing selection, you'll have a list to choose from. For this tasting session a mix of South African & Texas (both reds & whites) were sampled. Starting off with the Sumatran Sparkles, this South African sourced bubbly is Pinot Grig based with notes of honeysuckle and citrus. Next from SA was their Wijde Sparkling. This white bubbly was blended with 53% Chard, 46% Pinot Noir, & 1% Pinot Meunier. It expressed itself with a floral aroma coupled with acidity and a bit of pear. Following that were two of the Crash label brands. Both Pinotage based, with the dry version a nice and light easy drinking wine featuring notes of strawberries with bright acidity. The sweet Pinotage bubbly version (lightly sweet) exhibited more of a cream sensation with a touch of cherries. Moving on to white wines, the first sipped was the '24 Albariño. This TX white wine has some good pineapple notes giving a pleasant tropical finish. The next white was the Texas High Plains 2025 Viognier. Sourced from Lahey, this one was quite impressive with apricot and lemon. The next Texas red was the '24 Horn Red Blend. This High Plains sourced fruit, comprised of 40% Malbec, 25% Dolcetto, 25% Sangiovese, & 10% Petite Sirah, had notes of clove and cherry going for it with even tannins and acidity. Texas Mourvèdre has been making big waves in the Texas wine industry, and their 2023 vintage has Grenache blended with it to yield an intense fruit forward wine with blackberry to satisfy the nose and palate. The final TX red wine sampled was the '24 Sangiovese. With cherry, raspberry, and a touch of spice, this classic Italian varietal was quite satisfying. For the South African red wines, the '22 Cab Franc was the first to sip. Part of the winery's Keras collection, this bold wine was loaded with big tannins and had a firm mouth gripper! Following that were two '22 Cabernet Sauvignons. One was also from the Keras collection with deep cocoa and raspberry notes and a fine tannic finish. Not quite as bold, but still big, the other Cab wine displayed more blackberry and plum notes with a bit of leather. Rounding out the tasting adventure was the '23 Five Species. This Bordeaux style blend had Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Malbec, and some Petit Verdot blended to craft a well-balanced, smooth, and elegant wine to savor all evening. With a long family history in the Hill Country spanning more than a century, Craig & Chesney are adding their own chapter to the region's evolving story. The estate offers one beautiful surrounding scenery, dedicated up-close viewing sessions with Blake, and local artwork displayed throughout the tasting room. At its heart, this place is a true rhino conservation effort, strengthened by excellent wines from South Africa and Texas that help support the mission. It is a unique gem in the Texas Hill Country. Cheers!
