Another couple invited us to take the drive Stonewall and experience the winery and get a tasting. The grounds are very nice with some great scenes from the patio area. We were pleasantly greeted by a lady at the counter who explained what to expect. We decided to go outside to the patio for our tasting and also a charcuterie board. The board was nicely done. Our server, Valente (Val) did a wonderful job explaining each pour and answered all our questions with authority. He's a fine young man who obviously enjoys his work and the wine industry. We enjoyed the wines and the whole experience so much we decided to become wine club members. There is a very nice B&B located next to the winery and we have already made reservations at the B&B for the September pickup party. Fredericksburg is a short drive from the winery and will make a nice two or more day trip. The wines are exceptionally good. Texas is really making some good wines. read more

We chose to sit outside on the shaded deck, which was expansive and peaceful--a great way to ease into the weekend. The staff was friendly, and we selected a flight tailored to our preferences. The wine was enjoyable, and we ended up purchasing a few bottles at what felt like fair prices. Nothing quite wowed me enough to join the club or grab a case, but still a pleasant tasting overall. My only real critique is that our server could have been a bit more attentive. While we weren't in a rush, he didn't seem to be either. All in all, a relaxing stop with good wine and great scenery. We booked an afternoon tasting and sat out on the deck. Beautiful fluffy clouds, sunshine, shade, and million dollar view over the valley. Then add the wines - can't beat the experience and wines. We tasted a variety of wines each better than the last one. We really liked the reds. Each wine was accompanied by a good description of the grapes and process. My friends and I visited a few wineries on our Fredericksburg trip back in March 2023 and our first stop was Pedernales Cellars. The property is very beautiful and the views of the Hill Country are nice! We booked a private room. Brenna was our server for our tasting. She did a great job of explaining the wines. We had a choice of doing a mixed tasting or a red wine tasting. I opted for the mixed tasting as I like both red and white. I don't recall all of the wines that I tried, but I did end up buying a bottle of the Texas High Plains Lyla. We also were able to take a home a souvenir wine glass. Afterwards, we were able to enjoy a picnic on the front lawn under the oak trees. We brought our own lunch because they only offer snacks (cheese, nuts, and chocolate). Stopped by here on our way to Fredericksburg and had a lovely afternoon! The property is beautiful, so calm and serene with views of the hills. Dog friendly patio with plenty of shade. I didn't go inside since we had our dog with us, but it looked pretty busy and seemed like some people were doing tastings. My fiance and I both just got 1 glass of wine from their selection. No prices listed for the glass, but it was between $13-$16 each I believe. Plenty of parking and they even had EV chargers. read more

Stopped here again and really like the outside area of this winery. It is a great view of the Hill Country and this spring day was perfect outside. Consistently the best wine in Fredericksburg for dry red and white wines. The view is beautiful with big trees, a shaded patio, strings of lights, and big windows to showcase the surroundings. We did both types of tastings, and the dry red one is definitely worth the extra $15 if you have another person with you to order the mixed flight (which has the best of both worlds). They offer a 15% discount on cases of 12, and there's a long waitlist to be a member for 20% and access to exclusive wines. We bought our favorites and can't wait to try them with food! I will say the prices, especially member prices, are quite high and so these wines are definitely for souvenir purposes rather than an everyday purchase. The "taste guide" gave us thorough background into each wine and accommodated our large group. This was my second time and will definitely keep this in rotation for next time! read more

My experience at Pedernales was disappointing. We purchased a bottle of wine, it's good wine. The server tried to have us decide on a bottle or glass at the entrance podium and then corked our bottle in the back and not table side--wrong etiquette. That said the wine was good. Second, we ordered crackers, meat, and cheese and it came in a package as if we were at a grocery store...21.00 or so for it...Third, the building was so loud a conversation at a small table was hard to have; the acoustics in the building are terrible--the noise level reflected 100 people talking over each when there was just 30-40 in the building. The wine is good: the review is saved by the wine. A dive bar serves frozen food plated...a nice winery should at the very least plate the food--I'm not at home. It was loud!!! And, an experienced server should cork a purchased bottle table side and make sure it's perfect. I will not come back to plate my own snacks or share a conversation where shouting is the only way to hear one another. Etiquette has formed over time when serving the wine to ensure it has not spoiled, drawn from, and to show it has not been tampered with...disappointed to see etiquette not taught or used. After some online research, we were led here. Having a party of 11, we made reservations for a tasting, highly recommended to get a taste of all of it. However, this was the priciest of our tastings in the region. Our tasting started out a little stressful as a large group is always a little hard. But our wine guide, Forbes, quickly warmed up to our quirky group. He provided a wealth of information about the wines, the club, the history, his favorites, and lots of fun local information. Pedernales Cellars has a modern vineyard feel. The upscale-feeling tasting room is bright, clean, and spacious. There are a few indoor tables and plenty of space around the large central bar, but it otherwise looked like it was geared for large groups of standing people. There was a very pretty private room to side of main tasting room. Outside seating is on a large deck as well as the lawn. The staff member [Flores? I should've gotten his name!] the day we were there was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. He did an admirable job of juggling numerous tasting parties efficiently on his own that day. I was a little surprised to visit a vineyard without vines. The facility has beautiful Hill Country views, but there were no vineyards visible on the property. Apparently, the primary vineyards are 12 miles away and other associated vineyards are elsewhere in TX (the High Plains area). However, this is the location where the wines are made. I thought the wines were creative, including the wonderfully light and flavorful dry rose - which was a surprise to me - and a partially unfiltered and carbonated (?) yeasty rose that seemed like a cross between a wine and a lager beer to me. (The latter wasn't to my liking, but I appreciated how it would be refreshing outside on a hot day.) A couple of the wines used Mourvedre grapes, which I hadn't heard of before and which seemed to be popular in Hill Country wines right now, especially in blends; I wasn't enamored with the wines that were heavy on these grapes, but they were okay. We also got to try a unique (to me) spiced wine called "Glogg," which went wonderfully well with the ginger cookies that were provided. I'm not certain that I would return here with so many other vineyards to try nearby as well, but it was enjoyable, had a beautiful setting, and the wines were good overall. read more

We have never had a bad experience at Pedernales. My husband and I have been visiting Pedernales for the last few years and it Is one of our favorite wineries in the area. The wines are fantastic. I like reds more than whites, but I like all of their whites I've had. The service is always great. Weekends can get busy, and reservations are a good idea for the main tasting room, but if you don't mind the crowd, it's fine. I ended up joining the wine club and I have no regrets about it. The wine cub lounge is small and intimate. You also have access to amazing wines they are exclusive to the club. As far as staff goes, Brandon and Eric are always so friendly and personable. And I ordered cheese, crackers, and salami, which as another commenter said, came out all stacked together on paper plates. I stopped at this winery on a reference from a friend. This location was about 5 minutes away from the main highway but still easy to find since is the only big thing on that road. You can't miss it! I went on a Monday so there was not crowded at all. They tend to be busy towards October and November and on the weekends. I only saw 3 other cars in the parking lot! It felt i had the whole place to myself It was around 1 pm that I stopped in and there were two servers at the winery. I tried the sampler which came with 5 wines and you get to keep the wine glass for about $25. I personally like sweet wine but if you like semi-dry this is a good place to start. The wines they sell have won various awards thru the state and some in the country I believe. Like I mentioned earlier there were only like 3 people there and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time when a reporter for a local radio came into the winery doing a special report on tourist and the wine business. I got interviewed by him about what brought me to the winery, what part of the state i was from, what my favorite wine was etc. I guess that makes me famous now guy! haha It was too hot for me to go wandering and explore the grounds so I got my things and headed to the next winery. This winery is at the far end of the Texas Wine Trail along 290. Their specialty, in my opinion is their reds, especially their tempranillo. It's deep, dark and full of flavor. The winery is most well known for their stunning views from their fantastic porch overlooking the Hill Country. The winery is set back a ways from the highway, so you get a nice view of bluebonnets or the oaks or whatever. Their use of huge, local limestone blocks makes a rustic, yet elegant look. They welcome you to bring your own food, and they even have tables set up to dine at if you wanna pack in a picnic. Occasionally they've been known to have a food truck. The staff serves up a wide range of wines, and of course the best value is to become a member and get a sampling, and come back occasionally and pick up your wine and try everything that they have to offer. The staff always seems a bit overworked around here. They have the same little quips about each of the wine, but it seems that they've all said it so many times that they wanna scream. It's gotta be tough to handle so many crowds of people, especially on beautiful days. Overall, they were super accommodating, but not overly friendly about anything. They were a bit frazzled with having to go around make the pour, say the phrase describing it, smile and nod, and move on to the next empty glass. The tasting room is nice, clean, and they do offer a wide range of wines to try out. Pro tip: When doing a tasting, follow the order listed, work your way down the list, and don't just jump around. I tend to focus on their reds. The tasting room also offered Texas-themed wine accessories and stuff. We've had a debate on how you pronounce Pedernales. Asking at the state park, we found out that if you're from the Hill Country, like Lyndon B Johnson, you just pronounce it "PeRdenales" and call it a day. Same holds today. read more

(We fully expected to wait, so this was a nice surprise) The tasting was very nice and informative. Erik made the experience fun and enjoyable. He is knowledgeable about the wines and the process. My fiancé and I have done a number of winery/cellar tours in the past and decided to do the cellar tour Sunday 8/13/23. It ended up being one of the best we've ever done! With the warm weather it's harvest season now so we were treated to see fermentation/carbonic maceration first hand. We were treated to a few barrel samples as well as an opportunity to visit with one of the wine makers who happened to be onsite. We tried some settling post-crush viogner prior to fermentation and they our amazing guides Holly and Drea answered all of our questions with enthusiasm. Wine is good, view and tour is great. Great experience. It had been several years before I step into this winery. I was met by a wonderful representative named Abigal Aldrige. Her smile brightened the room. She quickly got my attention and ask me open-ended questions. She quickly knew that I some experience in wines and immediately provided samples of red wines. She described what was in each and every five wines and was knowledgeable. She knew about wine and food pairing too which was impressive. Abigail has exceptional soft skills and knows how to engage with people. I was comfortable talking to her. I was more than willing to be a wine club member. What a beautiful location and winery/tasting room! I was so impressed from the first moment I drove up. The limestone and metal sign at the road is welcoming and beautiful. The parking area is huge! There is enough room for a 40 foot RV and lots of other cars (I actually inquired because my father wants to bring his RV there). As I walked in I was greeted by the staff. They were all very knowledgeable and attentive. I loved the huge deck and spent some time out there visiting with friends. I also got a tour of the huge wine cellar. Everything was so clean, new, and professional. The knowledge of the winemaker, Dave Kuhlken, was so impressive. I loved learning about the different types of barrels used and why. I had no idea that one oak barrel could cost so much! Texas wine is not the best in the world, but if you are heading to the Hill country for some fun, Pedernales Cellars is absolutely a must experience! The place is very kid friendly and dog friendly! My wife and I tried this place as we were staying next door at the Rose Hill Manor. We truly enjoyed the boardwalk connecting the two businesses. The outside atmosphere is wonderful, albeit a little hot in the summer time. Live music made the ambiance extra special. There were two options for tasting: the $20 and the $42. The wine was good, but not worth buying a bottle. Our sommelier seemed tired after a day shift of annoying tourists, but was still nice enough. I enjoy coming back to this winery each time I visit Fredericksburg to do a tasting on their outdoor patio and take in the wonderful view. During our most recent visit, they were one of the few wineries that was immediately easy about accommodating our group of 8. They pulled tables together and allowed us to eat the picnic lunch that we brought with us in coolers. Most other places do not allow outside food -- I'm not sure if they are always this flexible, or perhaps it was due to our group size or it being a quiet Friday. Some of us did the tasting while others bought bottles. Our server was delightful, which definitely added to our great experience.
