Setting is nice. Plenty of covered outside tables. Was a bit crowded indoors (a good thing!). View was spacious. Visited the new tasting room and it is GORGEOUS! Plenty of parking outside, with some construction areas to watch out for. As soon as you walk in, there is large bar with sitting areas on both sides. One side was a little bit louder, by the food kitchen and another bar. The other side has couches and chairs only. Its very calm and relaxing. There's also a family bathroom and a bathroom with a bunch of unisex stalls. We ordered a tasting of 5-6 wines for $20. We started with the pinot noir sparkling, it was SO good made in the traditional method. We also tried the SpRonkling, Petit Manseng, 2 Tempranillos and a blend. The Rose sparkling was my favorite. Great hospitality and vibes all around, but not my favorite wines. read more

This winery was so cool! One of a few places open on Tuesday. We did a tasting & the guy was so knowledgeable and so fun. The owner was also there, so we heard some cool stories. It was close to closing time, but we were treated well & not rushed. We did finish before closing, so no one was inconvenienced, but some of the other places were not so nice. We ended up taking home a few bottles. A bit pricey, but so delicious. read more

We camped for the eclipse and had the most wonderful time here. Everyone is so welcoming, from the staff to the regulars to Ron himself. We felt like family from the minute we walked into the tasting room. We did a tasting Sunday when we got there so we had a few favorites picked out when we ordered by the glass or bottle at the party Monday. They were always willing to give you a splash to help you decide too! The grounds are so beautiful and peaceful and the wine is good! This was our first visit to the winery and we did not know what to expect. The tasting room was very nice with lots of room both inside and outside. The tasting was 6 wines which we enjoyed outside. The staff were really friendly and helpful and didn't rush us at all! Our only negative is the construction of their new facility was distracting to look at but will finish later this year (2025). While this winery was picked because it was on the wine trail passport, it was my favorite of the day. We ended up enjoying the tastings so much that we got a bottle of one of the wines to sit and relax and ordered a few other bottles to go. Bottles were really well priced vs other places. The outdoor patio was open (good for social distancing) and there were lots of other friendly people enjoying their own glasses of wine while soaking in the vineyard view. What makes this place truly memorable? The service here was hands down the best. read more

This winery is definitely one of the more high end in the region, and it definitely did not have that down home Texas hospitality that I have come to know and love around the region. I came with a Wine Affair Passport, meaning I would get a comped tasting, and this was the only winery I visited that seemed a little put off by that. The service was at best ok, as it was clear that my comped tasting was low on their priority list. The wine itself was fine, but it was all a selection of heavy reds that were not my favorite. I also tried their pet nat, which some member was crowing about, and it was not my thing either. It is all a matter of taste, and my taste did not match with Ron Yates. Maybe it was an off day, but this was one of my more disappointing wine experiences in the area. read more

Heads up, if you're a red wine fan, continue reading. If you're a white wine person, call ahead... because I believe this location only had reds when I visited, even though there are lighter varieties on the website. The red varieties also vary from what's on the website. You're welcome. =) I AM a red wine person, and finding a robust, complex red wine from Texas (that doesn't suck) is not the easiest of tasks. Ron Yates has an almost overwhelming selection of reds, and I could have easily gotten into some serious trouble tasting them. And more than one of them did not suck. I always love it when a brand surprises me with an offering. ...well, you know... good surprises... Anyway, what I left with was a zin, which is normally a wine I do NOT care for and I find too light. Specifically, this was a 2016 Russian River Valley zin, making it a California-Texas mash-up. "What??" you ask? Well, Ron bought a TON of Russian River Valley grapes from California - the grapes themselves; the raw product - and did the rest of the work to transform them into this fantastic wine here in Texas. California grape, Texas-made wine. And it's drinking beautifully ~5 years in, so grab some while you can. Normally $37/bottle, it was on sale for $200/case, or close to $17/bottle (more after tax and tip, of course). That's super reasonable for a well-crafted Texas product, IMHO. To be clear, I also enjoyed more than one of the 100% Texas pours I sampled (Texas grapes AND Texas-made) - but the $200/case deal was the winner during my visit. :) The inside bar and tasting area wasn't that large, so the bar could get crowded. Expect to wait if it's the least bit crowded. The outside covered patio was bigger and provided more room for the masses to enjoy what they got at the inside bar, with additional room to spread out in the surrounding grassy field. The surrounding field also provided the most important prerequisite for my visit: somewhere for the kids to play. Score. Last but not least, Wifey and I shared a bottle of the RRV zin the other night and it was still fantastic, so it wasn't just the right mood and right place at the right time + had a few drinks and bought a case. How have I have reviewed this place yet?!? We have been members for I think 3 years now. And every experience they go above and beyond. Dan is always pouring wine behind the bar and for some reason this place feels like family. They are knowledgeable, friendly and in my opinion take care of their members. This is one of the two wineries we are members of and I don't see us ever dropping it for any reason. Dan, Barry and the whole crew are just incredible people and take care of their customers! Went here latish on a Saturday and it was fantastic. Didnt have a reservation and winemaker was there to welcome us in. It was great wine and fantastic service. It is set back off 290 which is nice for outdoor seating but it was 104 degrees so we stayed inside. Tasted a bunch of wines as wife and ai both did different tastings and shared. The Friessan Tempranillo was my favorite and I would go back just for that for sure but server helping us was amazing also. Cant wait to return. read more

We greatly enjoyed our tasting here with Gabrielle. Because we arrived at opening on a Tuesday morning we were the only ones doing a tasting. That turned out to be a great thing! She was able to walk us through every wine in great detail. You could feel her passion for the entire wine making process, from planting to drinking. The wines were fantastic! We personally loved the GSM, Temp, and Grenache Rosé! The tasting rooms seems new and is very nice. It's a small winery and you can tell they deeply care about the process. We finally went for a visit on a recent trip to Fredericksburg. We were celebrating our anniversary and we found this winery and the team very good and friendly. Gabbi and Angelina were friendly and helpful answering our questions. Although it was busy they made sure they came around to check on us. We tried the tasting and ended up becoming members. We always support local estate grow wines and we're not disappointed. And Ron Yates is very involved in his winery and always takes time to say hello in his busy schedule. Located off the 290 Corridor, this place was happening. They have a wine tasting room to the right and their winery to the left. The tasting room was full, full, full, therefor it made it hard for us to get that one on one perspective from their employees. (One on the main reasons we love to visit tasting rooms.) Their Pinot Noir(s) were outstanding! They are made with Russian Valley grapes and their bottle sold for $50. Their Texas wines were not all that expressive to me. I felt they were a bit young and didn't have that bold flavor I tend to look for. The gentlemen serving us did his best, as he tended to both sides of the bar (they were extremely busy) and was friendly and made some small talk. If you are looking for a place to gather with a group, their outdoor patio attached to the bar is very accommodating. Their bathrooms are conveniently available and kept very clean. Super disappointed to be the only people there at 11 am and be turned away. We drove quite a distance with excitement to try this place. It would have been so easy to offer some accommodation, sample, or tasting on the empty giant patio . We were there to buy the Cabs we have heard so much about and just wanted to learn more. This was our 1st stop on our wine tour. The Vineyard is beautiful and the wine is really good. Our host was super knowledgeable and offered plenty of tastings. Would highly recommend visiting. Suggestion would be to offer a quick tour of the actual winery where the wine is made and stored. I would have loved that. read more

We were driving to the area for a girl's weekend when I saw the sign for Ron Yates. I have been a regular at Spicewood for a long time and wondered if this was the same Ron Yates. We were members to Spicewood before Ron bought it and he has done great things to that winery. On our way back to Austin I had to stop by. Sure enough same guy but different label, different wine, different businesses but same owner. I happened to stop by the weekend of the February wine trail so it was a tad crowded. I just got the normal wine tasting for $14 which was about five tastings. All were ok, nothing blew me away. I think they have better wines and I hope to stop back in when not so crowded and maybe really get a true tasting with more information about the wine. They were just pouring and moving on. Which was fine as I really just wanted to know if this was owned by the same guy. He has a built a nice tasting room here. More formal than Spicewood. A huge patio and has a large warehouse on the property. No one in my group bought anything. Maybe we were done as this was 12th winery in three days or maybe everyone felt like I did. They did have girl scout selling cookies which my girl friend enjoyed. I will be back on a week day when my husband to experience it again. This place is a bit of Fredricksburg. Huge covered patio overlooking the property is perfect for soaking up the day with a glass of wine! The staff is very nice and welcoming, they don't overwhelm you with a bunch of info but instead let you taste the wine and enjoy the experience. Having lived in SF and been to wine country and part of many wine clubs, this is the closest you're going to get to the real thing, in Texas. The wines here are the most drinkable Texas wines, the view out across the pasture from the tasting room is great and they are dog friendly. First time wine taster here at Ron Yates's. I'm in love with the Cab Sauv. The atmosphere is welcoming, personable and laid back.. I never felt rushed or ignored. Barry picked the wines and he was spot on for my palette. Daniel and Zach came by picked up a conversation like we're old friends. Out of all the wineries, Ron Yates is across the board best winery in town. Excellent Hospitality with a home like feel. Wines that danced all over my taste buds. A bit of a surprise to us as we read that this was a new winery and then drove into a very well-finished winery and tasting room. We later discovered the winery was custom designed by the winemaker and the tasting room had only been completed for a few months. Even though the decor reeked of potential snobbery, we were glad to find good ol' Texas hospitality when we walked in. Our server explained the relationship between this winery and Spicewood. We were happy to learn that the quality of Spicewood followed Mr. Yates to his namesake winery from Spicewood as we enjoyed many of the wines we tasted. Our server was also very pleasant as we traded stories about each other's adventures in different parts of the world for wine tasting. Overall an extremely good tasting of very good wines and a relaxing conversation. One thing of note: RY Winery is upfront about not all of their wines are from Texas grapes. We purchased 2 wines with California grapes and another using Washington vines. I personally don't have a problem with this as long as they are honest. read more
