Came here for valentines day dinner with the boyfriend and the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD!! All of their pasta is handmade fresh daily and you can tell! I ordered the gnocchi and I've been craving it ever since! My boyfriend ordered the sausage pasta (can't remember the real name) but he loved it, and they definitely weren't skimpy with the sausage either! The staff were friendly, I'm pretty sure one of the owners or a manager was serving us which made it even more disappointing when in the middle of taking our order walked away and was giving directions to another waiter, who seemed to just be setting a table wrong. I just went here for lunch with coworkers. The restaurant is fairly small and intimate with friendly staff. Zeljko was serving us but he also runs the place. Super friendly guy. Came here for a dinner with co-workers. Ordered Catch of the day. Haven't had cooked salmon like this good for a while. It has a thin crispy layer outside and the inside still remain the tender and smooth texture of salmon, not like many other places that makes salmon taste like chicken. The service was good but the food was not. My friend had the pasta with sausage dish and I had fish with rice and vegetables. The rice was very dry and crunchy and the fish was dry as well. The vegetables we're good. My friend thought the pasta wasn't any better than average home cooked. read more

We went for dinner here and were pretty pleased with everything. The place is very plain, not elaborate, and didn't look that great when we walked in, but we decided to give it a shot anyway. I had a chicken, shrimp & pasta dish and my s.o. had a pasta with sausage. The pasta was the best either of us had ever had and we were told it was all hand made on site that day. It came with garlic bread that was also made on site.....everything was delicious. I thought the prices were more than reasonable and felt that we got very good value. The white wine selections by the glass left a bit to be desired.....Pelee Island only, no Italian, no Californian. Service was friendly but a bit stretched, but overall no complaints. The taste of the food is the only reason this restaurant gets a 3 star, if it wasn't for that, i would be rating it as a 1 star, here's why: 1) the service was poor and our server was rude. We were there as a group of 14 for our holiday office party (lunchtime). The restaurant was busy with several office parties and there were only 3 servers. Given that all groups had reservations they should have been better staffed. I asked for bread to start with and the server proceeded to lecture me (yes, lecture, not politely explain) that bread was only served with the meal, not beforehand. When the food was being served it resembled a prison service, very much "listened up, grab your plate, make sure it's your order, and don't talk while we serve", which was very uncomfortable. Coffee, tea or dessert was not offered and the bills were given to the group shortly after the dishes were cleared. I will say drinks were taken promptly, and arrived quickly, but second drink orders were not offered. The food also came in a reasonable amount of time 2) the food itself tasted good but the portions were very inconsistent. Five people in our group order the special of the day, some people had a descent portion and others were so so small. I rather be charged a few more dollars for my meal and be given a good portion. Also the special of the day was described as having an assortment of vegetables and chicken; I could have counted the vegetables and pieces of chicken in my dish on one hand. As mentioned above, the sauce was very tasty. Some people ordered sandwiches with French fries and there were a total of 15 French fries, pretty pathetic considering French fries are a great and cheap plate filler for a restaurant. I would not go back to this restaurant simply because of the server. I hate feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome in a restaurant as I did here. read more

Classicos restaurant in Kitchener was the only restaurant where we didn't want to open the menu before ordering a meal. My wife and I would take whatever the waiter would bring to our table. In Classicos this method was never a letdown. The meals and service were always spectacular, and this worked perfectly until Classicos closed its doors :( We haven't done this method of ordering food until we visited 271 West. On our first visit my wife could not decide what pasta dish to take. We took a recommendation from the owner and she got the "271 West Shrimp Pasta" with some pink sauce. My wife complained since I ate half of her meal, so we had to order another one. This was probably the best pasta either of us have ever ate. Besides stealing pasta from my wife's plate, I had an excellent steak as well. Since then, we've eaten at this restaurant many times without looking at a menu. We both love the element of surprise, and meals here are nothing short of excellence. Wine list is not as rich as Classicos used to have. Nevertheless selection is decent and few good reds can be found. Highly recommend. read more

Family owned and family operated restaurant. Within walking distance of The Tannery (Communitech) and Google. Good selection of food and wine. Many Italian menu items (pasta, pizzas), but other options too. This isn't fast food, so it does take time for your dishes to be prepared. Our party of eight arrived late on a cold night when there were very few other customers yet our food seemed to take quite some time to arrive. I do wonder how they keep up when the restaurant is actually busy. But the food was very good, and the owner is very friendly. Arrived after the lunch crowd with 2 co-workers. The gentleman that waited on us was very attentive and spoke very well of the menu items. Homemade pasta, homemade bread and we could customize any of the dishes as we wanted. We had Caesar salad - it was not served with lemon and was a bit dry, but tasty. I ordered Bruschetta and was told it would be too much for me if I was having pasta as well! I said we would be sharing. I was shocked when it arrived - there were 6 1/4" thick x 3" round pieces! I could have eaten all of them myself! My luncheon pasta was a ravioli - very small amount of filling for the size of the ravioli and the pasta was a bit tough. The sauce was a tomato chunky style sauce - it was supposed to be basil and tomato- no basil. The other order was a 271 Shrimp pasta dish and was devoured by my co-worker. Very good. We split two bottles of Sparking water. Our shock was when the bill arrived - $97 before tip!! The decor definitely needs some updating - a bit tired and worn. The BR was clean. All in all - probably would not go back when there seems to be many other restaurants in the area. read more

What a gem!!! I don't normally eat out for Italian because I can create most dishes at home...a friend recommended this place for their fresh pasta and it not only didn't disappoint but it inspired me to want to make fresh pasta! We ordered a small Caesar salad to share and the Spinach dip...house made and oh boy...that Spinach dip is all real cheese and spinach (not frozen like a chain restaurant) and delicious!!! My husband had the daily house fettuccini special with grilled chicken, broccoli, mushroom etc...but you can also add their perfectly cooked, Smokey bacon or whatever you'd like to customize your pasta to your taste and choose from their "to order" sauces. I had their ricotta gnocchi in the white wine Gorgonzola sauce with lovely mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes...and of course loads of freshly grated Parmesan! Delightful!!! This is a family run business who gives top notch customer service and an especially enjoyable experience. Here's a tip for you...the restaurant is at the corner of King and Water Street...if you continue on Water Street to Charles Street...you'll see the P for Parking sign...just around the corner from the restaurant - ample parking and parking is free on the weekend after 5pm. We had reservations for a Valentine's Day dinner at another place, and when we got there that place was unexpectedly closed. We didn't want to waste the evening and didn't know where else to go, and then we saw 271 West when we were walking around looking for a place. We went in and said we didn't have reservations, but would they be able to take us? They accepted us immediately, and we had a very nice dinner with attentive and friendly service. The meals were a good portion and perfectly seasoned. It was so nice that they took us in on a busy night, and the service and dinner were just great. We definitely recommend 271 West! read more

Food is fantastic, fresh made soups, pastas, pizza, all really delicious. Chicken club is my absolute favorite. However, in my opinion, the owner is too friendly, too accommodating, it borders on being an intrusion on your dining experience. Regardless, I will continue to go back. I read reviews on this place and decided to try it with my friend. The owner/waiter was very very kind but almost to a fault. Before I even tried my food he told me if I don't like it, no problem, he can send it home with me and make me whatever else I want free of charge. I found this odd, like let me try my food first lol (which was amazing btw). I was shocked when the owner/waiter poured my beer without picking up and/or tilting my glass. I had to wait to drink it because it was literally 3/4 of foam....he didn't even get a 3rd out of the bottle. I've never seen such inexperienced beer pouring in a restaurant let alone by the owner. The owner/waiter gave us lots of attention for the first half of our visit, until his friends came to visit (who didn't order any food btw). He sat and talked with his friends and we felt completely ignored. Eventually he offered us take home boxes, he nicely packed our food for us and went back to his friends, where he completely forgot about us. We sat there awkwardly waiting for our bill. We could see the kitchen staff coming out to check why we were still there when the restaurant was supposed to be closed. We felt very uncomfortable at this time. Now, after closing time, we see him get up and start turning lights off at the front. He walks back and is almost shocked/surprised to see us and says "yes can I help you?". We were in shock and before we could answer he realized he hadn't given us our bill. The food was SOOOOOO good, the best I've had in a long time. Unfortunately for the chef, my tip reflected the awkward service. Honestly I didn't want to tip at all after that but the food was so good. As far as I'm concerned the small tip I did leave should have gone straight to the kitchen staff. To the kitchen staff: you do an amazing job and you deserve to have more experienced wait staff. If you are wondering why your tips suck, its not your food. read more
