You know if an Austin restaurant snags a space in the airport, it's got to be good! 24 Diner lives up to the hype and is the perfect classic diner spot. The menu had a ton of options, almost too many if you can be indecisive like myself sometimes. Food: I got the classic breakfast which was great. I do wish the bacon and potatoes had been a bit crispier but I still enjoyed them. We got a waffle for the table which was amazing. It's VERY sweet though so a few bites was more than enough for me. We arrived at noon and were surprised at the number of empty tables. I ordered the Biscuits and gravy which was two biscuits, two eggs and a fruit cup ($16.95). The biscuits were a bit tough and dry, but the sausage gravy was tasty and well seasoned. The eggs (which I'd ordered 'over easy' were undercooked with clear egg white coming out when I cut into them. I didn't eat them. The fruit cup was fresh and delicious. My friend ordered a roasted banana milkshake which contained a couple of pieces of something she couldn't figure out - cereal, ginger snap? We were both underwhelmed with the food. Now it was a bit slow so my guess is they were excited to do something but this is where I know and how I know it's a good spot. A struggle to review this one... Starting with the positive. Service was on point, and Lyndsey made sure to provide us with all we need. Without asking, she set our table with a side of ketchup, jam, butter, and waters. Coffee was always filled! Someone, who I believe was either the head chef or manager, came out to check on all tables. Always a plus, connecting with members of the establishment! Ambiance is as you expect, diner feels with modern touches. On to the food. The menu definitely excited the eyes. While it was a slight bummer to learn the Eggs Benedict is only served on the weekends (and available until running out), I had a number of selections that caught my eye. The Breakfast Plate is offered at a discount of $10 (instead of $16) if ordering Early Bird. The bacon, although ordered crispy, was just sad. The fruit cup seemed old, or perhaps using frozen fruit that's thawed out. The breakfast sausage in the hash was nothing special, and could have easily been crumbled with jimmy dean breakfast sausage. On one hand, yes, this is a diner - so expectations are as such. On the other hand, prices are definitely inflated (again, understanding this is basically downtown), and don't align with quality. I'm baaaack! LOL this time came in for lunch on a Friday at 11:30. Perfect timing because the tables were starting to fill up quickly. We were promptly seated and our order taken. This time I tried out the Buffalo Chicken Sliders with a side of Mac & Cheese. The sliders were so tasty and had a nice crunch to them too. The Mac & Cheese wasn't bad, but not my favorite. I'll probably try. A different side next time. Love the pairing with Bleu Cheese for dipping since that's usually my go to dip. Absolutely love that every time I come here when I ask for hot sauce they have a large variety. Cholula, Tabasco, Sriracha or Yellowbird Habanero. They have it all! My fav is the Habanero. There's not really a whole lot of parking but even if you do find parking, it's tight spaces. There's was a wait (no big deal) but they ended up seating us pretty quick. I got the waffle plate but subbed the eggs for fruit. The waffles were soft..? Like they weren't cooked all the way maybe? It may be a preference but I like my waffles to have a crunch. The syrup was also super sweet. The fruit didn't taste fresh; I had bananas (that I didn't eat because I don't like them), strawberries and grapes. I tried about 4 grapes and one after the next they just tasted worse and worse. Moral of the story, this place wasn't for me. read more

This Diner was one of the few restaurants open on Christmas evening in the downtown area and therefore had a wait for a table. Luckily, I was able to find a seat at the bar and didn't have to wait. I was intrigued by the homemade veggie burger and asked the bartender about it. She said out of town visitors stop in for this burger when they visit Austin, so I really wanted to try it. It was exceptionally good! After a few bites, I had to take out the jalapeños with seeds because my mouth was on fire. Once I took out the jalapeños, I was able to taste all the flavors of the veggie burger again. You can see all the beets predominantly in the burger, but there are a lot of other vegetables in there as well. The fries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and you might just finish them all like I did. I will definitely stop into this Diner in the future to eat this veggie burger again when visiting Austin! read more

We had a party of 8 ona Saturday morning. We were quickly accommodated by the hostess which was nice but our server (unfortunately I did not get her name) was absolutely rude and unhelpful. She made us all feel as if we were inconveniencing her and she'd love to get us out the restaurant as quickly as she can. A few of my friends in the party did not enjoy their food-- particularly the steak and eggs with complaints that it was fatty and tasteless. I had the meatloaf which was pretty tasty. I absolutely love this place, and have eaten here for years. Took my wife and her nephew there today, March 9th and had a regrettable experience and one I'd rather forget. From hostess to waitress there was a feeling of "just not into you or it today." Ordered two orders of Chicken and Waffles, on large and one small...which took absolutely forever to get to our table. The couple directly behind us came in approx. 10 minutes after us, ate, and left before us. Also I've never had what appeared to be a cook bring my food to me but that seems to be what happened. How many times did the waitress come by and ask if we needed anything? She didn't. I even sat awkwardly waiting to see someone that I could ask for a to go box. It was my wife's nephews Birthday and I was excited to bring them there. Over 50 dollars later with 10 dollar tip I feel extremely disappointed and dissatisfied. I always wanted to try this place out and today was a good day. I first noticed the parking lot in front was small with tight spaces. I decided parked behind 24 Diner with few cars parked at. There was an outdoor patio but decided to site inside. The place had a cool eccentric appeal and great character. I got that farm to table feeling here and noticed the menu said breakfast served all day every day. The options looked attractive but wanted a lunch item, so I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich where described it as brioche bun, apricot slaw, chipotle remoulade and I selected dart meat with it. My wife, who was with me, ordered the Roasted Chicken with whipped potatoes and mac & cheese. The service was excellent and very friendly. As I waited I saw a bar with craft beer and a list of different pies to order. Soon our food arrived and my chicken sandwich was huge with the chicken sticking out of it. I also ordered the mac & cheese as a side and it was just delightful. I loved it. The fried chicken has a nice bread-like crust to it where it was not greasy. The chicken in it tasted really good where it was hot and steamy with great flavor. It was one of the best I had. I grabbed my fork and sorted to pick at my wife's plate to taste the mashed potatoes and roasted chicken. I was visiting a friend in Austin and came across this place on a Sunday. Was just one party at a table and I was promptly seated, tucked in a little corner table behind the front hostess/host area. Was given a menu, and given 5 minutes to look over it then the waitress approached me with water. I thought the food was decent for a diner! Not overly delicious, but it wasn't "meh", it was in between both descriptor. I ordered coffee cake. That's came out first and it was slightly warm and a little crunchy which was good! I was expecting it to be warm, so that was a nice and unexpected touch for me who was walking all day exploring Austin. It was 90 some degrees out. I ordered the meatloaf, which was very tender and easy to cut It was coated with some type of meat sauce, and beneath it were some collards. The collards tainted the taste for me, but they weren't bad, so I ate the meatloaf and mashed potatoes separately from the collards. The meatloaf itself was tasty. The mashed potatoes were bland. Not bad, but more tasteless. I also ordered Biscuits and Gravy to go for my flight back tomorrow morning and the waitress gave me the option to have the biscuits and gravy not built together, so they wouldn't be soggy after sitting in the hotel fridge overnight! Overall, my experience was very pleasant! I knocked down a star because I was sitting for five minutes looking at a menu before being offered water. Had a mimosa (not too heavy on juice, just like I like it) and my sister liked her spicy Bloody Mary. I had the veggie hash and my sister had the biscuits and gravy. I often find B&G bland but the gravy had that great peppery bite that put it over the top. I got the massive biscuit with my hash and ate the whole thing. Not dry, buttery and delicious. The hash was very good, interesting and different than usual hash but still very breakfasty. It has no meat so I got a side of the sausage. Very generous servings. 20 Oct 2023 We took the train from SA to Austin and wanted breakfast when we got there about 9:30am. I had researched and found that 24 diner was less than a half a mile away from the Amtrak station. So we get there and get seated right away at a table in the corner. We ordered coffee, hot tea, the classic two-egg breakfast ( only $10 between 7 - 10am), a chicken and waffle sandwich, fruit and a slice of coffee cake. All was great. I really like the coffee cake, moist with the crumbly topping. Service attention was just right came by without asking them to. They are currently not open 24 hours, but open until 11pm. While we there for breakfast, they do serve typical diner food, burgers, sandwiches and the like. Go there when in Austin. read more

I also snagged one of my friend's Black & Blue Wagyu Sliders: reallllly yummy and probably an option I'd get in the future again. Note that the blue cheese is not your traditional blue cheese, but has more of the consistency of a poppy seed dressing, interesting but still scarfed that thing down quick. So my wife and I are trying to go to places we haven't been or have not gone back to in years. We tend to play it safe and close to home. Shana picked this one and we headed over Sunday afternoon. The wait was a little over 30 minutes and seems to be normal so take that into account. Parking was better then most downtown places and there is a Waterloo records next door. The greeter was friendly and efficient. I even almost left my phone but he caught me before we left. Breakfast is all day. We got a potato appetizer then I got a breakfast sampler type meal. Sunny side eggs were fine, bacon was ok. The sausage patty was the best part easily. I just got a coke to drink in case I have to drive and one of the few free refill drinks. No Dr pepper and Maine soda as most places like this have. Shana got French Toast and loved it. The Service was fine for how busy they were. No complaints there, we saw her several times and she kept my coke refilled. A weird think was the flies seemed to increase in the short time we were there. The prices are not bad for the taste and portions. If we can find a slower time we would like to try it again. read more

Came to Austin for a concert and spent the night here so it was a must to stop at a diner on the way back home. Glad we found this spot. Staff: Friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was Mitchell. Nice dude, with cool hair. Lol Ambiance: very relaxed, casual. Modern/industrial design and feel. They also have outdoor seating which is nice for this Spring weather. Quality: food tastes fresh, definitely gives a farm-to-table vibe. They even offer vegetarian options. No tummy sensitivities here if you know what I mean.
